Surprisingly The Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck Pt. 2

The African Queen:

What makes the film work so well is the chemistry between two leads.

The Devil Rides Out:

Nice to see Christopher Lee play a good guy for once. Pretty creepy at points,along with having a great villain.

RoboCop.

A lot of hate, but it didn't try to be the original with a stupid "its different but the same twist"(like Star Trek ID), so that got a lot of respect from me, it took the overall theme, corporate corruption to the max, and ran with a modern day version.

Really like that he was back in Silver at the end, the subtle meaning behind the suit colors was a nice touch.

John Wick. It is an over the top action movie that is really well done. Some of the action scenes in the movie are fucking brutal. It feels like the weird love child of Drive, Payback, and a Stallone/Arnold movie.

At least it distracted you from the Keanu-acting right? Then again it's not like Arnold was worthy of an Oscar at all.
Call it wooden all you want but his aloofness works for me. He makes it work in the roles that I've liked him in. Better than going full-retard I say.

Btw anyone seen the babadook yet?

Clash of the Titans(original):

The highlight for me was the Medusa scene. The stop motion work done on her was fantastic,which made the scene even better.

The Fog(original):

Really enjoyed it. The characters could've been better,but the cast did a good job. Great twist ending too.

Saw John Wick mostly because of the reviews and how everyone seems to be raving about it.

Totally exceeded my expectations. You can tell they had fun making this one.

The Thief from Baghdad:

Some amazing production values,and had some pretty groundbreaking special effects for the time. Can't wait for Criterion to get around to releasing the blu-ray!

Just saw Kindergarten Cop on Blu-ray at MovieStop. Just need True Lies. Though sadly it was $11.99 unlike Last Action Hero which was $5.99.

The Theory of Everything w/ Q&A w/ Director - 5/5 - Awesome movie based on Stephen Hawking and Jane Hawking. I'm glad he's still alive.

Ghostbusters 30th anniversary - Finally got to see one of my favourite movies of all time in the cinema. Loved it, though I felt we got a pretty small screen.

Horror of Dracula:

Christopher Lee was badass as Dracula. Had some great atmosphere.

Redline:

Art porn to the fullest. Amazing soundtrack to go along with the animation. Any animation fan should give this a watch.

COZI showed Dracula and the Bride of Frankenstein. Bela Lugosi makes Dracula, and Dwight Frye gives an equally powerful performance. But the rest of the cast, and the direction are lacking in horror. I prefer the Spanish version, which does make us scared for the mortals under the Count's thumb.

On Fox's subchannel, they aired that Sting movie where he falls in love with the Bride for the monster. Funny how the idea of psychic connection also appears in Grimm.

Edge Of Tomorrow - 4/5

My general like of it falls in line with what most people have said in the past.  A surprisingly good Sci-Fi movie.  I even laughed a few times.  I've always been partial to Tom Cruise so he didn't ruin a good movie for me.

Sex Tape - 3/5

It had it's fun moments, but some times you get burned out watching these types of movies.  Still a pretty good comedy, but that's just a matter of taste I guess.  Jason Segel looks a bit strange as skinny as he was.

The Purge: Anarchy - 3.5/5

The purge movies always give me chills.  The teenage daughter along with the resistance and government conspiracy I found to be a bit annoying.  Personally, these movies only work for me when it's about survival and not sub-plots.

The Fault In Our Stars - 3.5/5

Not usually my cup of tea, but it was okay for a YA movie.  I hate watching sad movies usually, but it was solid for what it was.

Night of the Living Dead(original):

First time watching it. Such a smart move to film it in black and white. Really enjoyed the performance of the guy who played Ben; who was very natural and believable. Very ballsy ending too.

All Through the Night:

A fun thriller with some great comedy mixed in. Good cast to go along with it all too.

A Most Violent Year - 1/5 - The most boring movie of the year!
Interstellar IMAX 70mm - 5/5 - It was awesome! It didn't bored me still want to see more.
The Wedding Ringer - 4/5 - Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting is in it. Kevin Hart & Josh Gad are quite funny. The very last line was very interesting.

War of the Gargantuas. Monster movies are basically the same as our modern day disaster films, but instead of dwelling on the OMGs, they really do a good job of showing human ingenuity and teamwork. To bad sci-fi shows these days are way too concerned with excitement and character development, layering in evil acts as a sign of complexity, than doing anything about actually solving the problems with our brains and human cooperation.

The Frankensteins' fight was freakin' awesome nonetheless. I'll give this a must watch if you like Godzillas.

The miniature work in this movie is amazing. When the Gargantuas fall, the buildings don't crumble like a piece of cardboard, but actually like regular dry wall when you smash something heavy enough on it.

Biggest quibble was why they had to have a white guy in the movie, but found out that the Americans were producing this flick.

Probably should have gone with the Live. Die. Repeat. title. All You Need is Kill would have gotten a lot of random backlash.

Edit: Personally, Tom Cruise turns me off, so I automatically ignored it.

Edit 2: Imagine if someone like Joseph Gordon-Levitt was the star instead, and not because she and Blunt already worked together.

I went in knowing nothing about Edge of Tomorrow except for it looking cooler than Oblivion. I'm so glad I took the chance and ended up really enjoying it. I think Tom Cruise is awesome btw. :lol:

Gonna try and grab a copy of the manga to see the differences.

I kind of agree with the Tom Cruise thing. I feel the same way about Tom Hanks, all their movies I have a ho hum feeling about but when I watch them I'm pleasantly surprised. I didn't watxh to watch Oblivion at all and also liked it.

I feel like Edge of Tomorrow had no real shot. Tough to correctly market it without completely ruining the experience of he movie. Lots of great movies just don't click right away.

Live. Die. Repeat. is probably the best out of the three which is why they changed it.

Also I like Tom Cruise so I'm glad he was the lead :p
