Tales from the Pawn Shop(s)!
It was good, but not as good as I thought. I just went to play FFVII, to test it, even though it looked great. I don't know how I didn't notice, but disc one has some nasty rental stickers on it. Still, for the price, one less than perfect disc is still alright in my book. I'll just keep an eye out for disc 1 to replace it.
Use some goo gone then there won't be any rental sticker

Today I decided to visit a few pawn shops and got...

:ps3:
$14.99-- Bioshock(complete, perfect condition)
$14.99-- Valkyria Chronicles(complete, good condition)

I had a surprisingly nice haul these past two weekends:

Got these for $2.50 each at one pawn:
-Dark Cloud 2
-Dark Alliance
-Dark Alliance 2
-Shadow Hearts

At another pawnshop I picked up some other goodies:
-MGS3 Subsistence $4
-Time Crisis 4 Gun(usually you can only find the game without the gun!) $8
-Resident Evil 2 $2
-Darkstalkers PS1 Longbox version $2
-Futurama (Xbox) $4

The finally at my last stop I got the following:

-Zelda: Windwaker
-Zelda: Collector's Edition
-Zelda: Twilight Princess(cube version)

Got those for $9 each. I was hoping to score a lower price but the guy knew that Zelda games had some worth to them so he was firm on that. Windwaker isn't too amazing at that price but since I found the strat guide at gamecrazy for $2 the day before I figured I could pair them up.

Non-pawn related but when I went to get Devil Summoner 2 at gamestop I also managed to pick up another Guncon3 for $18 and a PS2 network adapter for $15. Then at the local gamecrazy, I picked up a sealed Assassin's Creed LE (PS3) for $30, plus some older pokemon guides for $2.

It was a pretty good couple of weeks for me!

What's the deal with that NASCAR game again? I see the prices on eBay and Amazon, but if it's a PC game, don't people just pie-rate it?

Papyrus, the company that developed NR2003 lost their liscence to create Nascar games so it was pulled from the shelves in 2004. Most of their team went on to create the online sim racer, iRacing.

Complete copies are hard to come by nowadays which explains the high value. I have the game complete in the jewel case but I threw the box and (possibly) the manual away a long time ago. :(

i had the deal of a lifetime today. i got a teal green dsi for 5 dollars at the pawn shop. i walked around the store once , as i do everyday, since they put games out everyday. i walked past a case and it catches my eye. honest to god it says as is 5.00. i ask what wrong with it and the guy says it wont do anything. so i was like for 5 i will tinker with it. get out to my car hit power button on the dsi and turns on. i played it for 2 hours today and it worked perfect. i was extremely happy.

last week at same pawn shop for 2 ea
mario kart double dash
loz collectors(the one with 4 games on it)
loz ocrania of time (has game and bonous for ocrania)
all for gamecube

Picked up a 360 for 35. 20gb hard drive included. Was in their broken pile. Got them to boot it up and it did so fine. Family settings came up and prevented it from doing pretty much anything. Figured if it didn't work could sell it for pparts and break even. Found the code to unlock it and now I have a fully operational Netflix box for my bedroom.

How did you find the code? Or was it just some reset thing?

last week picked up the following for $35:

star wars jedi out cast 2 (xbox)
star wars battlefront 1 and 2 (xbox)
star wars kotor 1 (xbox)
dot hack part 1 infection (ps2)
rule of rose (ps2)

all games were complete as well!! light scrathes but all playable.

My best pawn shop find was Marvel vs Capcom 2 (PS2) for $8 pre PSN/Live re-release. I already had a copy so I sold it for a bit more than $80. !0x money!! A few weeks later the re-releases came out. :D

I love pawn shops. They're generalists, so if you're a specialist (as most collectors are), you'll always have an edge. Recently picked up Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (PS2), Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GC), and Marvel Ultimate Alliance Platinum Hits (360) for 5 bucks each. The same pawn shop wanted high eBay prices for mid-range PS1 stuff and $75 for a vintage Atari unit, but I was able to grab a blue Nintendo 64 packaged with 5 games (including Ogre Battle 64) for 15 bucks. Go figure.

There was a pawnshop that I never knew about some 20 minutes away from me, didn't realize they were there until they advertised in CL saying they had all sorts of games. They quoted NES systems at $50(which many pawns seem to be charging, have they really increased in value!?) so I was thinking it wasn't going to be worth it, but it turns out they had some pretty great deals:

-Star Wars Jedi Academy (Xbox) $10
-Fatal Frame II (Xbox) $3.25
-Silent Hill 2 (Xbox) $4
-Grand Theft Auto Collector's Edition(the PS1 games) $9
-Arc the Lad Collection (PS1) $30

I have never found a PS1 collection set before, but I got two in the same day! I know the AtL collection probably isn't the best deal at $30, but it was too interesting to pass on. Looks like all the goodies are accounted for except for the memory card holder.

Found Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 at my Pawn Shop for $15.

I was guarding that case like a pit bull

and they sell blu rays for $7

Hit up the local pawn shop that always seems to get in retro games... haven't been in awhile.

Zoop (SNES) - $2
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure (Genesis) - $2

I remember Pitfall being real good back in the day, and that it had pretty decent animation at the time.

All I know about Zoop is that it's some puzzle game... unless it's a sports game though, for $2 a piece I will grab any retro game.

I remember Zoop wasn't too bad, although if you're not a fan of puzzle games you won't see it as anything worthwhile.

I was able to snag a SNES for $20 the other day. Probably not the best deal by most standards, but I wasn't getting any responses to a craigslist ad I put out requesting one, and considering every single pawn around here prices them at $50 I think I did well. They knocked it down to $20 at first because it was just the console, no cables or controllers, but then they found the power cable and a controller but kept it at $20... since the Gamecube AV cable works with the SNES I was all set.

At another pawnshop I was able to get a silver PSP Slim for $100. It came with the 2GB memory stick, plus all of the accessories, paperwork and an unused the italian job movie download code. There was a Gran Turismo PSP instruction booklet in there too so I'm assuming it was from a GT bundle pack(shame the game wasn't included)

I love pawn shops. They're generalists, so if you're a specialist (as most collectors are), you'll always have an edge.
Careful what you say... I used to get all sorts of awesome deals, and sometimes depending on the employee that's working I still can, however over the years alot of the employees have wisened up, one guy even calls a buddy before selling some games to make sure he's not letting go of a rare game for cheap.

Hey, for $2 I keep my expectations real, real low, so I will probably enjoy it ;)

The oddest part is this pawn shop never gets any real gems in for the older systems... just odd stuff like Uniracers, Zoop, Sword of Vermillion, and Jewel Master.

My Pawn Store never seems to get anything good. I was surprised when I saw this. And for $25 too.

I own an FC Twin console and I was afarid this wasen't going to work, but it does.

I used to be friends with this one kid back in highschool.

anyway I didn't have my copy of Mario RPG anymore so I asked him to borrow his copy he had. Well sure enough he said I could keep it because he never played it anyway.

I just scored a copy of E.V.O. Search for Eden at the pawn shop near my college for $5.00. I also got a few other less impressive games for the same price (Mario All-Stars, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Knights of the Round, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Donkey Kong Country).

My best so far, and probably ever: Atari Jaguar with 8 games for $1.44 OTD.

The system was missing it's AC adapter, and had a key hole in the top (the kind that they use to lock those glass cases at Walmart/Kmart/etc) because it's been used as a demo unit. I asked him if he could move the key bar slider and find an adapter. He tells me it works fine, but I want to try it out anyway because it was marked $20. After 10 minutes of searching, no adapter shows up, and he offers it to me for $1.44. Even for the games, it was worth it.

Brought it home, drilled out the lock, and hooked an AC adapter up to it. System works fine.

Epic. Truly epic.

haha that's a great deal, did it come with any noteworthy games like AvP? I have to ask though... where did he get $1.44 from? Why not just a dollar or two dollars?
Oh thanks. Already did that and didn't find much
there seem to be a good amount of them just from looking at the google maps listings that came up.

the best pawn shops for game finds aren't gonna be on google. they won't even know how to use the internet. if they can figure out how to list themselves on line, chances are they can use Ebay too. Just go look for them...though I guess driving around Detroit aimlessly probably isn't the best idea

Nothing great from pawn shops here recently, but I did get 2 awesome video game lots on craigslist.

Paid 50$ for a complete in box ROB with gyromite, 45 other Nintendo games (including all 3 mario bro's, all 3 castlevanias and all 3 ninja gaidens) and 9 SNES games.

Just paid 40$ for a complete NES, complete SNES, 29 Nintendo games (Including all 3 mario bros, Kirby, Mega Man II and III and bubble bobble) and 4 SNES games.

I love craigslist

Was that an ad that you posted or did the seller post?

Superpages works well, but I don't know if the link will make it through here:

http://yellowpages.superpages.com/l...elId=&sessionId=&C=pawn&L=detroit,+MI&x=0&y=0

It is worth noting that in some locations they won't be called 'pawn shops'. Around my current area there are a lot of 'swap shops' that are similar to pawns, but only buy and sell. Pawn shops typically offer to make loans on items that are brought in by the 'customers'.

sellers, I bought them all for that much :D

Mine use to have good deals, but not anymore after they started looking at ebay prices. When Resident Evil 5 just came out. About 1-2 months later I found it at the pawn shop for 15 bucks.
