GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

I was told that every single non-bluray based games game that is returned to the warehouse is ran through the resurfacing machines by a higher level customer support after I had issues returning a batch of gamecube games that were chewed up.
I believe this. Every disc based retro game I have ever bought from their site, except when the program first launched, has been through there disc chewer machine. For real, what the hell is gamestop doing with retro? They take a perfectly fine disc and ruin it in their machine, and then they proceed to throw away every single manual, and put the disc with the cover art(if you're lucky) in a flimsy case that breaks on it's way to you. Most people buying retro stuff I am assuming it is to have in their collection. This is not the kind of stuff I put in my collection.

Now in store their retro program is great. Most of my Gamestops sell retro in store. I got complete copies of Klonoa, Brave Fencer Musashi, and Legend of Legaia the other day at my home store...and they had their manuals and the discs weren't chewed up!

i question this because i buy gamecube games regularly and they are clearly resurfaced just like any other retro games i buy.
They fit in one of the JFJ machines, but only if you have the right add-on kit for it. According to multiple people at Gamestop they do not have this capability on their machines, and neither does the retro shop closest to me.

I used to work for Disc Replay who refurbished the hell out of some discs and can confirm that Gamecube discs were refurbished like all the others.

Some machines you have to put an insert into the tray to prevent the smaller discs from sliding out.
Yeah, I didn't say no one could polish them. AFAIK, only one company makes these machines, JFJ. You can go right on their website and see the machines, the gamecube kit, and that it only works on one of the machines. From what I've read JFJ doesnt even make the "better" model of their machine any more that was best for Gamecube discs.

For those of you playing at home, with a skeptical eyebrow raised: those Reader Rabbit games range from uncommon to pretty damn rare, and have therefore held their value better than you'd think. Finding all of those at once is pretty amazing.

what is your problem now kiddo?

For those of you playing at home, with a skeptical eyebrow raised: those Reader Rabbit games are NOT common in the slightest and are something of a collector's item. Finding all of those at once is pretty amazing.
And they are in perfect condition. Not sure why they are different prices though. I scanned right over them on my first pass thinking it was regular Wii junk, and then as I was looking at other stuff my brain went "wait a minute, I think thats something"

Is there an issue regarding the website redesign showing store availability on PS Vita games? Every single game I searched (more than 20) shows no availability within 50 miles at least.

Same, the corporate part aren't thinking much. Its part of the reason they are where they are at this point.

I used to wonder if the only reason they did those crappy resurface jobs was just to buff out random scratches from normal use on trade-in's but learned soon after that they just do it to everything, it even looks worse and there's a good chance that they ruin gamecube discs on occasion because during their resurfacing they either do it too hard, use too much of that paste (you will see residue sometimes in the disc holes) or they somehow abrasive the artwork side (which if you lose that, the disc is done for -reflective layer is there). I've had a gamecube game that looks just fine apart from the aggressive resurfacing and it just wouldn't play at all, had to return it.

I find far better used game quality online in pretty much anywhere you get see photos before purchases, gamestop is hit or miss for collectors.

I think something was already mentioned about the website inventory being broken, I cant speak about vita, but for sure its not correct when it comes to those collectible figures onsale, I was at two stores today that show nothing available, and I was able to get multiple items from both stores.

I have bought upwards of 100 ps2 gamecube and xbox retro games from them this year alone...mostly stuff to flip to amazon for credit and a few things to sell online because what else am I going to do with this credit? Anyway probably about 60-70 of them had their original cases with art work, but not a single manual. If they aren't tossing their manuals the odds of me just getting unlucky 70 times on a manual are so astronomically small I can just about guarantee something nefarious is happening to the manuals. Also no one here ever reports getting a manual on a retro game unless it is purchased in store. I would never buy a retro game from gamestop.com for my collection.

Its possible they just don't have any. Of the three stores in my town, they have a total of maybe 20 Vita games, and thats before the 5 I bought today. And 1 store only has a loose copy of Shantae Half Genie Hero.

A guy from the warehouse commented on the subreddit that they toss all the manuals because people can write bad things in them. People can save bad names to the fake SNES carts they send out but that's okay I guess.

The manager of the store I reserved a Kratos Nendo at did NOT want to sell it to me because 'it shouldn't be part of the sale'. He told me corporate glitched some of the old skus with the updates and that some figures shouldn't be included in the sale but are. Initially refused to scan it and told me it wouldn't ring up $5 but I eventually got him to and voila, $5. Proceeded to grumble about customers ripping the store off and 'taking off with high priced items' and was super salty about it.
Also it was the Assistant Manager or 3rd key as Store Manager’s are in Nashville for conference.

What android porn app do you all have installed that’s giving specific hacker groups/nations running Google Play and only Google Play scams your passwords?
It’s from the website hack a few years back I bet. Someone cloned my GS CC & tried to use it in Jacksonville in December.

Man... I've been reading about problems with the site for a while... but it's completely borked. I can't even view the weekly ad.

To confirm, the $5 toys are good all week? Not sure if that's what was corrected, or the 2/$5
$5 figures through close of business on Sunday.

So coverted my gamestop credit to MS credit, bought 8tb hdd, samsung t5 500gb ssd and another 1tb hdd. Was really needing a new HDD, my current 2tb is full.

Overpaid a bit, but evens out considering I still got gamestop bonus because it was credit. Going to guess gamestop got me an extra $80.(60% bonus and $5 bomus deals)

did you go on the website or app and check to see if they are games they are supposed to take? they don't take everything. and with gamecube games they can't take them if they are scratched at all because they don't fit in the disc polisher machine.
I always check TIVs on the app so that I know what the total should be. That’s the easiest way to know if they try to sneak a refurb on you. Like that guy above said, she probably didn’t know how to do a retro trade-in.

1. trade in disc only.
2. put manual and case separately on ebay.
3. ?????
4. profit.
This 100%. I went through GS to get most of my older Pokémon games because I had the credit and sales brought the prices down. Fakes weren’t super surprising to me, but hearing the employees say they discard the cases, manuals, etc was maddening. I went to Ebay and found cases/manuals, and some of the manuals were impressive just with how much they weigh. I’m not sure if I was more excited to have the game, or what the game came in.

I overbought two Pokémon games, so I went to trade them back in a few months later. Both came from GS online with cases, but during the trade-in process, the GS associate actually asked if I wanted to keep the cases because he would have to throw them away otherwise. I kept them and sold on eBay at a little more than what the fees/shipping/time was, hoping they would end up with a collector who appreciated what they were.

I get that they take up space, but I still hate this GS practice...

Got a little annoyed today. I went to the other store in town to buy all their $14.99 games, lol. Picked up 18 of them, and when she cashed me out she asked if I wanted the GPG, which of course I declined, and she sighed and said "I'm taking a huge hit on my GPG today I guess".  Like, gee, sorry I only spent $124.

GS is wanting GPG’s on 20% of all games sold currently, that’s their metric of the moment.

Because they have to get a certain % of games sold with a GPG or they could face employment issues. They also have trade and pre-order goals too. Also, bonuses are tied to store income, and returns reduce that, so some managers will be less than thrilled to process returns.

It's a crappy system and unfair to employees, but that's how it is for them. What you can do are positive surveys. They do help them and push your store closer to prestige (which means a quarterly prestige day with b2g1 free on PO'd games)

Wow, I had no idea this was a metric for employees, thought it was just preorders and PUR subs. Sucks for their employees. I'd prob go to their stores more if their employees didn't have to do so many things corp wants them to.

I think he meant why buy 18 $15 games. At least that's what I thought. I was going to ask the same thing
