The official N-Gage thread

Here's a random N-Gage question:

How would you compare the N-Gage's 3D capabilities against the DS's? Almost the same, one slightly better than the other?

I dont know if this was answered, but im not about to look through the whole thread. How much space does a movie take up? Like a hour and a half long movie?
Wize fwom youw gwave!

Never heard of it. Same size jewel box and everything? Huh.

Did Taito Treasures ever come out?
No Taito Treasures. Nokia didn't think it was good enough, from what I heard.

Going by experience instead of specs, I think they're pretty comparable. The thing with the DS is that, by and large, there are more talented development groups and more money being thrown behind projects. Thus, they can get their games looking/performing better.

Much like DS is supposed to be a spiritual successor to N64, I see a lot of similarities between N-Gage and PSone. For example, Splinter Cell looks comparable to Syphon Filter. Of course, if you put them side by side in screenshots it won't look like that, because of resolution issues. But, if you look at a TV with a PSone game on it and look at the QD with a game on it, they'll be in the same ballpark.

no response to my earlier q i see...

anyways i have another one for those few ngagers out there..what is the most useful app that you use on your ngage??

Mine would prob be agile messenger.

Mine was definitely the Smartmovie player. I spent a lot of time watching movies in the car while the wife was in a store shopping. It saved my life many times.

vNES for me. Love Final Fantasy III on the go (or at work...). Agile Messenger is nice, but I really don't use it much (within a few feet of a PC most any day or night).

Are you sure you didn't get hungry and eat it (Sorry, couldn't resist).

Have you tired calling it? Maybe its somewhere still in the club, or someone grabbed it? Hopefully you'll find it.

lol yea i tried everything...me and my friends searched the floors for a while...all i found was the back cover... which then in turn i lost that because a fight broke out "amongst" my friends on whether we should stay and look or leave....

The phone was off. I think either it was crushed by everyone or someone through it out this morning. I just called tmobile and had them suspend the account. I have to go get a new sim card etc

And a cool picture for the kiddies...

I have 2 extra SSXs and a Pathway to Glory for trade...LMK if anyone has any of these 'Not for Resale' carts as I love collecting them.

Yeah, that's crap. Good eye, Guyver. I reported this bastard. Here's a link to do it, and I recommend all N-Gage fans report this guy. http://cgi1.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISA...ca, Counterfeit Items and Unauthorized Copies

When asked to paste auction #s, use these:
6420423057 , 6420423178 , 6420423224 , 6420423268 , 6420423319

I also send a link to the auctions to a contact who works at Nokia.
awesome thanks

I have a question, fellas. I just got my QD in the mail today, but there wasn't a SIM card in it. Now can I go pick up a SIM card at any cell phone company if I don't necessarily want coverage with them?

I need to get this thing working, but there's no point for me to get the cell phone activated since I'll be spending most of the rest of the year and some of next in the desert.

Grave, you can get dummy SIM cards that have no acount on them, but allow your N-Gage to actually work. Most QDs come with them, on like a credit-card-sized piece of plastic. I looked really quickly on Google, and didn't find a no-brainer spot to buy one -- not even Nokia's site. However, I might have an extra one. PM me your address, and I'll send it out if I find it (I haven't looked yet).

Yeah, I looked literally all over the net, including n-gage.com, and I couldn't find a place to buy one. I PMed you my address, and I can pay shipping and whatever the card is worth. I really do appreciate it, Lee.

I do have another question, though. All the N-Gages I've ever had have been the original ones. Well, now I got the QD, and the screen definitely wider. I don't know if it's just that the screen is quite a bit smaller or what, but the screen certainly looks bigger to me.

Is the QD screen actually bigger than the original's or is it just an elaborate ploy by Nokia to fool all us Americans?

Well, I guess that answers my question. Damn, the QD screen is actually smaller. :whistle2:k

I am definitely confused on that one.
Grave, if violent cant find you one, I still have mine from when I got my QD, so just hit me a PM if violent cant get his
Thanks, man. I will most definitely hit ya up if Lee can't find his.

Don't know how credible this is, but read on Gamefaqs (I know, like I said, may not be credible) but someone posted EBgames and Gamestop will no longer be carrying future NGage products, which kinda sucks considering there will still be a good three or four NGage games coming out this year. Are they really working on a second ngage/newer model for later this year, outside of the limited edition?

Also where are you guys seeing the QD for $99.99. Their website still lists the QD at $149.99 for pre-paid plans, post paid are free but I'm not exactly thrilled about getting a contract phone.

I have QD. But I think The old one is much cooler. (Side talking rocks). PLus My QD is not so QD anymore. The rubber bumber totally expanded (now the rubber bumper is so much bigger than the QD when I placed it side to side to see how much the rubber actually expanded). I have 512 MB ("My flash" brand). Got some porn in it (all 3gp, RM and XVID avi format). Plenty of Mp3s (200Mb+), some Music video (linkin park numb, japanese Music videos ), some emulators (VSUN for SNES... runs like "crab", VBOY for GBC games, VBAG for GBA games- also runs like "crab", SMS and game gear emus,)

The rests are apps like Anti mosquito (total BS), EBible (I hape both Bible and Porn on the same phone... sigh I am going to hell for this, i just know it), Facewave (lets you send funny voice mail), Ultra Mp3, File explorer, Lie detector (doesn't work, total BS), real one player, MSvDriveE, and Smart movie.

You can buy the rubber strips off ebay. Mine is coming off, too.

How do you put it on though? I even had difficulty to glue my existing one in. (I tried cutting a short portion of the expanded rubber bumper and glued it, but it wouldn't stick well).

You have to take off the battery case and press the two prongs at the top portion of the case to get it to pop off.

Have any of you guys tried EMAME yet? I should be getting my new MMCs this week or next and am really looking forward on trying this out.

Here's a few helpful tidbits I thought some of you could use.

Make your N-Gage faster

1. Go to Main Menu -> Log.
2. Click Options -> Settings -> Log duration.
3. Set Log duration to "1 day" only.

N-Gage codes

*#0000# Check your Firmware version
*#2820# Your BT address
*#7370# Complete Reset (Full Restoration of all default settings and removal of all games/3rd party apps)
*#7780# Partial Reset (Restoration of default settings but games/3rd Party Apps remain)
*#06# check IMEI number

How to open an N-Gage QD case

The QD's cover is only held by the two clips you see behind the battery cover. Remove the battery and cover. Push on the two clips a bit to disengage the top part of the cover. Now turn the QD over, keypad side up.

Then, holding only onto the rubber edge, push down hard on the four-way controller, you'll hear a small click and the left side will open up, then do the same thing on the right side, pushing down on the number pad in the area corresponding to the directional pad (2/3/5/6 area) until you hear the click...

To get the cover back on:whistle2:

Looking at the front of the phone (keypad), pull the rubber flaps out of the way with your fingers for the power flap, and your thumbs for the card flap.

Line everything up, and push down. It should give you a few solid clicks as you press together the front and back around the edge. And then of course put your battery back in and replace the cover.

The last two used games that I have bought Rayman 3 and NCAA 2004 are marked "Not for sale" and have been loose with no case . Want are these and want were they for?

They are for playing!

Seriously, though, they are most likely pack-ins in some kind of bundle that was sold at some point. That's why there's a not for resale mark on them.
i miss my ngage...have not been able to get a replacement yet :(
Oh yeah guyver, I might have an extra QD that I could let go for a reasonable price. I sold it on ebay, and it went a lot higher than it should have.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5796496029&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MESO:IT&rd=1

Yeah, I was surprised too.

Anyway, the guy said he was gonna pay me and ship out a money order today, so we'll see.

If he doesn't pay, are you interested?
doesnt that mean that eb cant sell em? My thawk says the not for resale either
It actually doesn't mean jack. Anyone can sell them, but some employees think it's illegal to accept them in a trade or sell them. Just because it has Not for Resale, doesn't mean you can't sell them.

After all, this isn't China.

Ngage's website is now offering X-Men Legends (as well as the phone) for free with contract. Just got my NGage and It's OK. I don't own Chaos Theory, X-Men Legends, Xanadu next and what not so theres alot of games I'm missing out on, but until those games go cheaper I probably won't own them.

Just in case any of you guys didn't see it, Gamestop is now selling all N-Gage games at half price.

Also, I have a quick question for you QDers. I know the QD has mono sound and not stereo, like the original. But if you have headphones with two speakers, can you use stereo sound with the QD? I know that may be a dumb question, but it was something I was wondering about.

From the N-Gage.com website:

What does “QD” stand for?
When naming this latest device, we wanted to find a combination of letters that would be international and work in many different languages. Our marketing organization was looking at the key product features of the N-Gage platform and they were inspired by the fact that you can carry your N-Gage device with you all the time so that it’s easy to play whenever you want, every day.

Which is where the QD comes from: it’s Latin for every day or daily (quaque die).

Well Unfortunately Grave I haven't been able to hit the local Gamestops for N-Gage products, but I think theres a few around here that might offer the $ off which might equate to good deals. I might just spend over $3 on a n-gage game one of these days, probably Splinter Cell and X-Men Legends. Has anyone tried Xanadu Next? I haven't been able to find a review ANYWHERE for it.

http://www.gamespot.com/ngage/driving/glimmerati/review.html

Looks like even Gamespot enjoys Glimmerati, might be worth the retail price.

- From the n-gage.com forums.

Here's a list of N-Gage games rumoured to be in development. None of these have been officially announced or confirmed, but some of them have been mentioned by developers and Nokia officials.

Confirmed games can be found on the official N-gage.com games list which you can find by clicking here.

-Basketball (apparently a producer of Tiger Woods is doing an N-gage exclusive basketball game)

-Dawn (a bit of a mystery, it was mentioned on a game release list in 2004, probably not going to appear now, it might even be an old name for ONE)

-Elder Scrolls Shadowkey 2 (the Shadowkey 1 developers have openly talked about it on the n-gage.com and elderscrolls.com board, they even asked for feedback from fans of the original Shadowkey)

-First Person Shooter (unnamed, Gerard Wiener, the head of N-gage, mentioned it in a webchat on n-gage.com)

-Gekido (some screenshots appeared on n-gage.com's message boards but it wasn't clear if they were genuine or not, and it was also mentioned on some unofficial N-gage sites)

-Golf Game by Nokia (not Tiger Woods, Gerard Wiener mentioned it in a webchat on n-gage.com, said it would "blow Tiger Woods' socks off" or something like that )

-Hockey (some kind of EA ice hockey game, rumoured on the n-gage.com boards a long time ago... I hope this is true as it would suit the screenshape well)

-Independence - CONFIRMED... this is some kind of old name for High Seize

-Joe (unofficial screenshots from a developer appeared of this game in 2004, but they seemed to be just concept shots and not genuine gameplay graphics)

-Kart Game (journalists played some kind of karting game at the N-gage launch party in 2003, but this could just be the Symbian game MGS Karting)

-Max Payne 3 (rumoured, goodness knows where from though)

-Phantom Operations (it's not clear if this is a full n-gage game, but Nokia's Asian branch seems to be developing this game for inclusion on its Asian QDs)

-Pinball Game - CONFIRMED, it'll be released as Mile High Pinball

-Pit Runner - CONFIRMED, Pit Runner was the working name for Payload

-Pocket Kingdom 2 (Gerard Wiener said in a webchat that they're in the process of negotiating with Sega to do PK2 for N-Gage)

-Runaway (no idea what this is, another long term rumour like Joe)

-Snakes 2 (mentioned by a Nokia producer in a webchat on n-gage.com)

-Sports Management Online Game (Gerard Wiener mentioned it in his n-gage.com webchat, but said they're not sure which sport or licence to use for it)

-Super Future Racer - CONFIRMED, this was a working title for System Rush

-System Rush 2 (the System Rush developers said they were already working on SR2 in a webchat on n-gage.com)

-Tenchu (some unofficial screenshots of this mysterious game appeared, but nothing more AFAIK)

-Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 (rumoured, but no real proof)

-Tony Hawk: Underground (rumoured, but Gerard Wiener talked about how they had a choice between spending money just on big name ports from other systems or spending the same amount of money creating exclusive new games, he implied Nokia were going to do their own skating franchise instead)

-Urbz: Sims In The City (mentioned as being in development by one of the moderators on n-gage.com, but it might have been canned after the GBA and DS versions got mediocre reviews)

-Vigilante 8 (rumour, no real proof AFAIK)

-Warhammer 40,000 (Confirmed)

-XIII (the developer had some 3D phone game screenshots labelled "n-gage", but it seems they never went through with it)

-Xyanide
(this has sort of already been released, the developers released it as a Symbian game instead of an N-Gage-only one because Nokia didn't want the game in the end)

The way you guys have been raving about that game I thought it would get higher than a 6.6 Even though gamespot are N-gage haters and they will never give an n-gage game a 9. Not that there really has been a 9 yet, but they won't give one.

Actually I think choas theory should have gotten a 9 or higher. That is a great game.
