Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Yep. Same here. I think people are spoiled. If the games really are that crappy, rip off, etc. then don't buy them. There's plenty of cheaper indie games with similar styles to support.

Truth is the games really are good, really are popular, and like it or not Activision has no real incentive to sell them cheaper than they are right now. Eventually it will drop in price when demand drops and you can buy it there.

It makes no sense to complain about full price for a game when most people aren't buying them until they hit 75 or 90% off retail. Then when it hits 75% off original retail (59.99) people want it even lower...lol...
... and you waited for someone to say that in order to write this wall of text? haha :bouncy:
please don't hate the haters, they have arguments.
It's interesting that Blizzard and Valve get compared as the two PC game devs that can do no wrong, but Blizzard rarely drops their prices and Valve can't seem to help themselves from giving games away.

Kind of cool to have such different mentalities out of high quality companies.
Bethesda is pretty good, too. We will just ignore the Brink debacle, though. ;)

I wish Blizzard would discount their games but I have never been burned by them, either. So, I have no issue paying $50 for a game I am going to get 2-300 quality hours of entertainment out of.

Valve is definitely a PC gamers favorite because they give away free DLC for all of their games, refuse to adopt the 59.99 price for new releases and constantly run good sales and promotions. Just goes to show that a loyal fan base (which valve certainly has) can be just as profitable as wringing every penny out of a customer as possible.

One other thing in favor of Valve and Blizzard -- they make their games for the PC. So, they are never crappy console ports like most PC games that are published.

It's circular logic, I can't hate the haters but you can hate on what I say? Where does it end?

They have just as much right to hate on Activision as I do to respond to them, if you have something of substance to add to the conversation feel free to.

One cares about the gamers and the other puts care into the wallets first and then the gamers?
One cares about the gamers and the other puts care into the wallets first and then the gamers?
I don't think the argument that Blizzard doesn't care about gamers has much validity.

They're under no obligation to ceaselessly tinker and balance their games for 5+ years after release.

Valve can get away with selling games cheap because their main income source is almost assuredly the Steam platform. 30% on probably 75% of all PC game purchases. That's a lot of cash and a good excuse not to care about how much they're making on Portal 2.
Ok how 'bout them Steam sales??
*COUGH*mw2*COUGH*

now really, check out the Amazon DD deals, totally destroyed Steam today. Got Dungeon Defenders and possibly Magicka Collection when my friend gives me an answer about it.

I'm hoping Skyrim gets a nice sale during the Christmas sale. My husband wants the game, but he wants it on Steam. I'm hoping it'll go on sale for sub-$40, so I can buy it and store it as a gift til Christmas Day. :D

And I know I'm probably kidding myself at a sub-$40 price.
I think Blizzard's monthly subscription fees obligate it plenty to tinker and balance their games.
I was talking about Starcraft/Warcraft/Diablo.

The subscription fee nullifies any argument about Blizzard going above and beyond, as apparently they're the only company left that can get away with charging monthly dues for an MMO.

WoW is Warcraft. ;) Regardless, they aren't the only company who can get away with it. Rift/Aion/SWTOR (will be). MMOs are kinda prescribed to charge a monthly fee now. Either that or the new policy of charging for "premium" status and restricting "free" players... Yet another abomination, but less so I guess.

Played some dungeon siege III with a 360 controller earlier and I'd say the game is worth $5. Though I never played the previous games so I might not be noticing all the things they did that ruined the series for some people.
I just beat Runespell: Overture, and it hints at a sequel, as should be expected in a game with "Overture" in the title. I hope for some tasty DLC.
I just finished it as well. Hopefully the sequel will have multiplayer. It isn't necessary, but would still be fun (if both people have finished and have the same blessing/secret cards)

I completed Runespell a couple days back. It lasted 10 hours for me and, as a former poker fanatic, I had tons of fun savagely beating bad guys with royal flushes.

I'd love to see some DLC or, better yet, a sequel.

Well Blizzard is like Nintendo. Makes great games but rarely drops the price. Then again I guess I am ok with it because I mean every Blizzard game has a huge ass community and you will easily get hundreds upon hundreds of hours of gameplay. It's not like Activision that charges $60 for a 5 hour campaign and a new map pack every year .

Plus what's wrong with Valve giving games away?

But back to the subject of Steam games. I am really regretting buying Skyrim. It's so god damn good and it's like I want to play other games but there is Skyrim sitting there, lol.

Dungeon Siege 3 is decent if played with friends. Online co-op will suck if you're playing with random people, but it's not bad as long as you're playing with a close friend. Only the host will have control of the save file and character/story progress. Anyone that joins won't have progress saved seperately, they'll have to rejoin with the host's save if they want to continue where they've left off. I can't really recommend it for it's singleplayer though, the story is garbage and it's just more fun with a friend. Definitely worth $5.

Skyrim is Steamworks everywhere so you can buy a boxed PC copy and it'll be registered and downloadable from Steam if you have store credit somewhere or see a good deal on it.

It may have been posted already, but it looks like SPAZ dropped to $10 for its regular price. I would say that makes it very likely to hit my $5 price point in the holiday sale, and possibly even lower.

I believe SPAZ got some Winter Achievements; it's a pretty good indicator that it'll be discounted as it has a high chance of being part of whatever scavenger hunt / game Valve has planned.

I waited for a good deal on Skyrim, after Black Friday came and went I gave in and got it at Gamesplanet for around $48-49 US. Worth the cash, been playing non-stop.

I like those Amazon deals but the one I was thinking of getting that isn't Steamworks (but on Steam), Drakensang: The River of Time, has an add-on on Steam that doesn't appear to be on Amazon. Hopefully the franchise goes on sale this next one.

Ah, great to know.

I've seen some $35ish copies on eBay, and a few games have been unloading codes in the low $40's. I may bite closer to Christmas, but I wish my 360 copy from Goozex would come so my husband could see the game and tell if he would like it. 5th in line there...

I wonder why Rocket Knight is 33% off. I'm not too concerned - I've been interested since its release, but I'll be ready to buy when the price reaches $3.74 or $2.50.

I guess what I'm truly wondering is why Konami would be holding off on really good price cuts for games like Silent Hill: Homecoming and Rocket Knight.

I ended up buying it on GMG shortly after it came out cause I had some credit to use. I regret getting it there because updating the game through Capsule is a pain in the ass. If the game drops to the 5 buck mark, I'll rebuy it on Steam and uninstall it on Capsule.

Anyone surprised this thread is on stand-by until next sale 2h from now? If anything, non-Steam topic is the rule right now.
Sigh ... you know what, without the need to rage or hate on COD, this reminds me of marketing examples like toys for children, and how hundreds of millions of dollars are spent on publicity scientifically developed in order to adapt the early brain of a kid in order for them to feel the need of these products, and how concerned parents are trying to fight this without success.

It's all about the money D: why are people so unconcerned about customers? =/

Eh, I don't think I'm going to get this Indie Royale bundle. Dino D-Day is garbage, not interested in Eets, and Blackwell just doesn't seem as interesting as alllll the other adventure games I want to play/have.
Puzzle Chronicles is $6.69 (33% off). Anybody know why?
HOLIDAY SALE! Offer ends January 2nd

Weird, maybe they are jumping the gun early or something.

Daily is Star Wars The Force Unleashed II for $5. Thoughts?

Shame on you. If you aren't loading up your Steam library with every game possible, why are you here? ;)

Battle: Los Angeles
Red Bull X-Fighters
Puzzle Chronicles
Yard Sale Hidden Treasures: Sunnyville
SAW
Silent Hill Homecoming
and BioZone
are all 33% off for some reason. They all seem like really random choices for a sale.

I know most, if not all, of those are published by Konami.

And Christmas presents. Apparently, tis the season for me to think of other people. ;)

Managed to pick up the indie royale bundle when it dropped down to $2.99 an hour ago and I'm already starting to regret buying it.

At least I got it for the minimum. I'd regret it even worse if I'd pre-ordered.
