Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Awesome for Vampires! Let's celebrate SteamerCAGs!

Also, after watching the video below I am buying Runaway: A Road Adventure.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SKo4-LOfJ4
I played A Road Adventure a couple years ago and it's a good little adventure game. The animation is pretty well done, the characters are interesting and the locations are well thought out. The art style kind of reminded me of Rock N Rule a little. I haven't played any of the newer ones but I enjoyed this. I would guess it took me around 16-20 hours to finish. Totally worth it at $3.40 if you enjoy adventure games.
I really hate Steam. Bought Vampire and thank god it was only $5. I just spent $700 on my gaming machine so my bank account is weeping
I built a new machine like the day the summer sale started and the ~$200 I saved downgrading my graphics card magically disappeared over the course of the next 10 days. Friggin Steam...

I know the feeling I spent $96 on the summer sale. I just ordered the parts, waiting for the HD and GFX card to come in and I will be good to build.

I figured I might as well splurge on it now so I can prepare for the holiday gaming apocalypse

Grabbed both Runaway and VtM:B. I've always blindly avoided the latter due to, um, less than positive association with a LARP group bred from my college days. The descriptions in this thread of what makes the game great caused me to finally take notice, and the price is certainly right.

Just putting this out here because I thought it was a VtMB bug:

Use the number keys to make your dialog choices.

That's it. I thought I had some patch or video issue after patching the game until someone on the Steam forums pointed this out. I R a dumbazz :p

Wow so glad I decided to check out the deal! I loved playing the PnP version of VtM! This one sounds like a lot of fun! Can't wait to check it out sometime this weekend, but definitely purchased it now before I forgot about the deal entirely. Makes the longer day at work totally worth the while.

I really want to pick the game up, however I'm afraid I'll have problems running it on windows 7. I've looked around a little bit and it seems like it's a mixed bag with some people running it flawlessly and others not being to run it at all. Is there a fix if I have any problems and is it worth the risk?
quick edit: looks like they unofficial patches fix the problem, so I'm pulling the trigger.
Why Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is awesome:

Bloodlines was developed by Troika Games, which was composed of some of the original Fallout devs. It benefits most from this roster in the story department, and the way the setting and characters are handled.

It has a similar sense of humor and amorality: It combines extreme darkness (killing innocent people and such) with some of the most wry and sarcastic humor I can recall in a video game since the original Conker's Bad Fur Day. The story is extremely compelling: It has a series of conspiracies woven into a plot that deals with factions in a way that is very similar to a good underground crime story. It is about vampires, but it isn't 'dorky'; it doesn't dwell on the magical sense of vampires, it is very much rooted in the idea of monsters (metaphorical and literal) in the real world. It only really alludes to the magical concept in the object that is the focus of the primary plot. As such, I found it extremely engrossing and was never alienated by the story because it doesn't strictly pander to people who love vampires.

The dialogue is hilarious and sometimes shocking. It is very much like Deus Ex as has been mentioned: You make your decisions through conversation trees as you did in Fallout before it, but the game plays out as an Action/RPG/FPS hybrid. The RPG element is deep (in fact, I saw a Vampire: The Masquerade character sheet from the live-action role playing game, and it is EXACTLY like it is in the game), and each faction you can choose to play as can have a very dramatic effect on how the story is told. The Malkavian, for example, can speak to some objects, as the Malkavians are insane.

The game's greatest weakness is probably its combat. There is very little in the way of armor pieces; although it suggests that you can utilize this element of your inventory, I only ever found three different pieces of armor. Combat is decided through dice rolls, so although you may be aiming at someone's head, if your handgun skills are low, you will probably miss (this is how Alpha Protocol worked). This often upsets people because it gives the illusion of player skill playing a role in combat. While partially true, the player's skill is about as important as the character's skill in deciding if your shot will hit. As such, most players will choose to stick with melee weapons.

Having said that, this game has some moments that will stick with you. There is a conversation that takes place right before the final sequence that is just awesomely conceived. The last conversation you have with this woman and her sister who own a bar together had me going "NO WAY." The primary plot is pretty awesome, and I was very compelled to continue playing its missions to find out what was going on. What exploration you can partake in is rewarding, and the sidequests are satisfyingly dark and involved. The voice acting is spot on. The script is absolutely perfect.

Yes, this game has an 80% on metacritic, but people who love this game don't love it for how refined the gameplay is. They love it for its personality, which it has in spades.
Great review. If you haven't already (and if it doesn't go past the char limit) you should post this as a Steam recommendation. And then add the whole CAG group as your friends. :D

VtM:B is simply put one of my favorite games of all time. It is definitely starting to show its age but the atmosphere, characters, story, and fun factor are off the charts. I played it 7 years ago and I remember it vividly. There is a lot of love poured into this game

its a no brainer.

I agree, he did write a nice review. Unfortunately Steam's recommendations system limits you to just a few hundred characters. I don't know the exact number, but it's about half of what supershammy has typed here. It's really frustrating when you type a nice review and then you have to trim trim trim until there's barely anything left. Also, you can only review games you own through Steam. Another bummer. But at least we can suggest stuff to each other here.

Can anyone change the thread title? Otherwise somebody should post this as a separate deal thread. This is really one PC deal not to be missed this weekend.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and ran Tess' True Patch Gold just fine (EDIT because apparently there's a huge war about which patch is better and I don't even want to step in that kind of e-pile. Go with what works for you. :p). Don't worry about the bullet points in the instructions he provides; it really is just drag-and-drop easy. Make sure to apply the "VTMB Res-Patcher Utility" found in the patch directory (C:\...\True_Patch_Gold_FINAL\True_Patch_Gold_FINAL\Extras\Utility\VTMB Res-Patcher Utility or wherever you unzipped it to) after reading the accompanying .txt file which asks you to easily edit an in-game .cfg file (open it in Notepad to edit it)).

If I can do this patch then anyone can, and that's saying a lot ;) Good luck and have fun!

"Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines - $4.99 Weekend Deal!"
Argh, I had it on my wishlist for years and it never went down. It was on sale with the other activision games for 33% off during the July 4th sale and bought it presuming it wouldn't go down again and now it goes down to 75% off less than a month later =(
PS - Don't play Malkavian on your first playthrough unless you want to play through the whole game not knowing what the plot was.
How so?

VTMB is utterly fantastic. I had great fun with it.

Just some fair warnings though: You WILL have to fight to beat the game. By the time you get to chinatown, you really need to be getting guns up to 10. That's toward the end. Early on, a medium melee score should be enough and most parts of the game will have stealth or talkie routes with minimal combat beyond boss fights.

If you can, get persuasion up to 2 or 3 before you turn in the museum defacement quest to the girl who gave it to you. This is early on. This makes the rewards for that quest a lot better in my opinion.

Toward the middle of the game, in Hollywood, you'll have to enter the sewers. This part of the game is utter garbage. You just have to deal with it.

Malkavians see the world... differently. That means they're insane. If you play as a Malkavian, all your dialogue will be insane to reflect that.

Don't be afraid to take a humanity hit here and there. There are tremendous amounts of ways to up your humanity.

The ending choices branch mostly on how nice you made it with everyone. Being a suckup is generally the best policy, but it's not necessary. You can really just youtube the extra endings as the last levels you'd have to redo are kinda sucky.
(it's the patch most consider to be mainly bug fixes and no new gameplay additions).
PLEASE DON'T GO THERE.

You guys are not privy to the huge e-drama regarding the community patches. Tess and Wesp and their respective coteries were fighting like sniping drama queens about their patches and every time someone throws in the phrase "mainly bug fixes whereas the other one imbalances the gameplay" it's literally straight out of propaganda campaigns spread from that stupid, STUPID e-drama. It makes my head hurt just remembering it.

Yoiks! :D

I am 100% new to this game and the patches, so I had no idea how heated both mod communities were. I just went with what I assumed was vanilla and quoted what I thought it was at face-value.

So... how 'bout them Mariners?

I see. Another thing that bugs the crap out of me is that even if you write a negative recommendation (condemnation!), it will show up as a "965 players recommend this game to their friends" dealie.

Sooooo which is the better patch to get?

I don't know, mate. Reading your post doesn't inspire much confidence. There is some computer speak in there that I'm not privy to. It sounds a little complicated.
VTMB is fantastic! Easily one of my favorite games of all time.
Same here...I love this game and grew to appreciate the talent of Brian Mitsoda, the writer for the story of this game. Last I heard he was at Obsidian, then left, and is somewhere working on something new somewhere. His stuff is on par with Chris Avellone IMO. Both great writers!

This industry needs more talent like those two.

This game is old enough I'm surprised it wasn't $2.50. I'd like to get it but I have a big back log, and for $5, I think I'll have to pass.

Played as the Malks for the first time and had no problem understanding the plot. I wouldn't recommend playing as the Malks for the first time because in comparison, you'll always be disappointed at how dull the rest of the world seems. Just kidding about that second part, although the Malks do have the funnest dialogue options...

Wow, anyone else notice the new release tab being flooded with street fighter DLC? That seems horribly over priced too.

Bloodlines is a great game, but the Sewers level can completely ruin the fun. For that portion, I recommend starting the game with the "-console 1" added and then going notarget so you are invisible.
It can be turned off and on and in my experience playing the game, did not break anything or cause any save game problems.

They are always over-priced

Hope this is cool, I have seen people discussing the group buys here before. If not, feel free to delete. I decided to go ahead and host a couple.

4 pack of Renegade Ops (@ $7.49 each):
1) Me
2)
3)
4)

4 Pack of Nuclear Dawn (@ 18.74 each)
1) Me
2)
3)
4)

4 Pack of Dead Island (@ 37.49 each)
1) Me
2)
3)
4)

Just send me a PM or post to claim a spot, but don't forget about me. I'll check back after I take a nap. Already paid for these, so they're officially hosted.

I watched some video reviews for VtMB and it didn't look too impressive to me. The combat looked horrible and it looked as if it didn't age too well. However, with everybody and their brother telling me the game is brilliant, I went ahead and picked it up. $5 isn't too much of a loss if it isn't great.
I've been waiting for a deal on VtMB! Does anyone know if it will run on Windows 7?
Worked fine for me, I used the Wesp patch (didn't know about the drama, sorry guys if picked 'wrong') with the widescreen mod.

Cool...i'm gonna snag it then! thanx!
Woo Chantelise. Success.

Today's DOTD, Capsized, isn't bad. Controls are a little awkward though.
I want Capsized, but I know I won't get to playing it in forever, and I assume it will be on sale again in the future, so unlike VtMB, I can pass on this one.
I don't know, mate. Reading your post doesn't inspire much confidence. There is some computer speak in there that I'm not privy to. It sounds a little complicated.
It's really not. In a nutshell:

 1. Unzip the patch.
 2. Drag the contents of the "TRU Patch Main" you unzipped into the game's main folder.
 3. Done :)

The widescreen mod is also very easy, but it's not necessary unless you want the game to display that way.
