Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

If you can hold out I have a strong feeling that Tropico 4 will hit 50% as a daily deal during the Winter Sale.

Anything above 50% probably won't happen though.
@lint21, it looks like this is the cheapest Tropico 3 Gold has ever been.
Thanks! Now to begin the true inner struggle....

I actually really enjoyed Tropico 2 best and had always hoped they'd revisit that. Tropico 1, 3 and 4 are increasingly better (but all good) versions of the same thing, sort of like the first three SimCity games were. Tropico 2 is a weird pirate strategy game that really deserves the same kind of remake.

Just tried some Sonic Generations. The game looks beautiful, runs beautiful and is just an awesome game overall.

2D stages play like Genesis quality levels with tons of paths. 3D stages are really action packed and fun. Only thing is going from a 3D stage to a 2D stage is not the best thing in my opinion because while the 2D stages are great, you miss all the cool action that happens in the 3D stages.

According to SteamGameSales, Tropico 3: Gold Edition has been $4.99 twice already this year. So, .10 cents cheaper in the past.

Just thought I'd post and second this. I picked it up for $26 or so from GreenmanGaming last night and was pleasantly surprised. The game runs real great and is a lot of fun. I honestly think they broke the Sonic cycle with this one.

I can see where most CAGs probably wouldn't find enough value in it for the 25ish mark, but I'd definitely recommend Generations if it can be found for $15 or less during a sale.
If I do decide to get the Tropico series, are the first two games any good? That bundle is mighty tempting for an extra buck or two and 2 extra games.

I think Rolling Skill is talking about the first game, but that's not exactly a glowing recommendation. :/
Tropico 1 was amazing before Tropico 3 came out. Tropico 3 was basically just a remake of Tropico 1 with better graphics. Even though I put hundreds of hours into Tropico 1, I dont think I would return to it since I have Tropico 3. Still it has some good scenarios that might be worth trying.

Tropico 2 is the ONLY game in the series that is entirely different. Its basically a Pirate game where you run a pirate island and have captives, pirates, captains, etc. You build ships and send them on missions. Your island is built around supporting your pirating missions (sending out the ship on missions). Its a pretty fun game but has some flaws in it that arent that great such as you can lose your ship and your crew if the mission randomly fails. I did a lot of reloading of my games when that happens which sucked. I would definitely check it out for the price if you are interested in this concept.

I just tried some of the challenges and I am really impressed. The challenge levels are basically the levels of the game except remixed with either new things added in or objectives, or new areas. There are both challenges for classic and new sonic and each challenges unlocks either some art or music when beaten. The music you unlock can be used in challenge mode as a replacement of the default music and it's old sonic tunes (and yes Sonic Boom is there).

I mean I have easily gotten my $25 of enjoyment out of it. The 2D levels are simply fantastic, the 3D levels are action packed and fun. The challenge you have to complete are fun. All in all this is the best Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2 and if your a Sonic fan, you want this. Green Man Gaming has it for I think $25 with code and Amazon might have it cheap as well.

And just a little side note. I had to use Joy 2 Key to get my controller working because it's not a 360 one but works fine. Also the port is really well done, looks both amazing and I have had no trouble at all with it. Boots right up, and no problems. Kinda refreshing after playing some ports that just suck or have so many buggy problems (Dead Island, Rage, etc).

Oops! I hope I didn't give the wrong impression. For me it was without a doubt worth the $25. I just know most people on CAG are pretty frugal about their gaming, so I could see a lot of folks needing -quite- a lot of convincing to be in @ 25. ;)

One part that definitely made the game amazing for me was the way they implemented older Sonic content. The new renditions of Green Hill / Chemical Plant / Sky Sanctuary blew my mind, as a 'kid' who grew up playing those on the Genesis back when they came out. It just shows that they weren't purely focused on actually making good controls, but also on recreating the experience for fans of the previous titles!

I mean, eff. I was drowning in nostalgia induced giggling fits at the entire fight vs the Egg-Mech. (First boss) The scenery was great, and the remix of Sonic 2's final boss music just had me thinking back to all the times fighting him in ye olden times. =P

Anyway, yeah. I'm just gushing at this point. Pretty much I don't want CAGs thinking i only found it "worth 15". As said above, I simply know many are frugal on here. Tis a good game, and for anyone who can remember any good times with the Sonic games, it's definitely worth picking up at whatever price point works for you. It's got something for everybody, between Genesis stuffs, Dreamcast kiddies, and even them newfangled Sonic fans. [/getoffmylawn]

edit --
Also lest anyone should be suspicious of my opinions, the game does play very well. This isn't just nostalgia goggles on my part. ;P

I missed that, I suppose it's not a bad deal, but...
Probably means the newest DLC sold individually. I'm sure most people here have all the old ones either through the Indie Bundle or IGN prime.
Bingo. I'm just missing a few, it'd be equally as expensive to buy that pack than to buy the one's I'm missing individually.

Hm. The first Fortix is in my backlog. As such, I've passed on sales on the sequel thus far. 75% off is pretty solid, though...

I welcome opinions on this.

I am trying to buy the Tropico pack (Tropico Trilogy), that is on the sale page, but the Add to Cart button doesn't work, and you can't find it with search....
Fortix 2 $2.50 75% off is the Daily Deal
Just added that to my wishlist looks like a fun Qix style game but I will wait for the Holiday sale.

I really enjoyed the first Fortix. Been waiting for 75% off Fortix 2. Just bought and came to see what people were saying here. Here is my small Steam recommendation on the first game:

What the description doesn't explain very well is that this is a Qix clone (classic 80's arcade game), mashed up with RTS elements. If you enjoyed Qix, you'll probably like this.

The game is very polished and attractive, and the gameplay is engaging. The menu system is difficult to manage, and suggests that this is a console port. No matter. The game plays fine, because it plays best with a keyboard. Only the menus are goofy.

I'm glad I bought this. It's fun entertainment for a few hours.

The thing is, Fortix is now just 99 cents, regular price. Think of it as a permanent 80% off sale; it was originally $4.99. So just toss the first Fortix in with the next game on sale you buy, and if you like it, buy Fortix 2 on sale at the Solstice sale.

I've been eyeing fortix 2 for a while. It looks fun but ill wait for the Holiday sale. Doesn't seem like much point in buying #1 as they say the levels were ported to #2.
I just started playing Aquaria. The game is so beautiful it brings a smile to my face. :applause:
It looks good but Aquaria is deep down in my backlog. I'll play it sometime in 2012.
What's that? o_O
Um, you know. It usually starts on or near the Winter solstice, a few days before Christmas, and ends a few days after New Year's. There's another one that starts a little after the Summer solstice and ends a few days after the 4th of July.

You may have heard it referred to as the "Christmas Sale".
They're usually referred to as the Summer Sale and Holiday Sale around here.
Yeah, but I get it I guess. There are those among us who are "politically correct". Nonetheless, I have never seen any sale whatsoever refer to the word "solstice", which is why I didn't recognize it. I would have gotten "winter solstice", but not that word alone as referring to a sale.

"Politically correct", pfff. I call it the Christmas sale. If you don't like it, you can bite my shiny metal politically incorrect ass.

The Solstice sales are usually much better than the Supernatural Appreciation sale and the Melanin-Abundant Friday sale, but I've been known to procure some interactive movies during all of them.

Right, but I did say that I already own the original Fortix.

Ah, now this helps. So should I just get and play Fortix 2 without having played the original, or would there be some benefit to putting the first through its paces before grabbing the sequel?
Fortix 2 is a remake of Qix but they bill it as "Fortix 2 is best described as a reverse turret defense game"

This makes me angry.
The irony is that I remember actually buying the game once I heard it was a Qix clone. I don't understand the obfuscation.

Fortix is indeed a Qix clone, but a very entertaining one with a nice setting. Haven't tried 2 yet.

Just preordered Batman: Arkham City last night since I had some PayPal dough sitting around. Glad it was only $40 for people who own the first game or Lego Batman on Steam. Just wish the PC version's release date wasn't so far off (November 22)!
The irony is that I remember actually buying the game once I heard it was a Qix clone. I don't understand the obfuscation.
Funny that you use that word. I'm sure many who read your post will feel obfuscation towards that word. Ironic.
feel obfuscation towards that word. Ironic.
Not ironic is the fact that you're attempting to use the word entirely incorrectly. Obfuscation is on the part of the presenter, not the interpreter. You can't "feel obfuscation" toward something.

I still can't decide whether to grab Fortix 2 or wait for it to be on sale again later. I hope that bundles make another appearance this holiday. Pretty sure I got the first one that way.

Just cut it out... Do you really need to try that fuck?
Accept your defeat gracefully, Atreyuevr. Sometimes jokes bombs. :')
Lol I wasn't joking. I'll admit that I may have used the word wrong, I already admitted not ever hearing it before just then lol... But what I'm getting at is that this isn't school, no need to use words like that to make yourself look better. I'm 90% sure that isn't in his list of everyday vocab.

As for DPsycho, that was unnecessary, I couldn't care less about what the word means lol... I don't need a lecture on it, I'm not a English major. He should be going to his classmates/work colleagues for that.

Why bring work home?

Also, "jokes bombs"? =P Accept your defeat, good sir!
How 'bout them Steam deals?!
Yep, dem steam deals!

Shattered Horizon is $5 for some reason, and I still recommend it. Poor thing didn't do so well, but if you're interested in a new FPS experience, it's pretty rad.
