Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Yeah, it's down for me as well.

The Steam forums were compromised and the Steam database was stolen. You'll definitely want to change your Steam forum password and do the same on any sites that used the same one. It's unclear exactly what has been accessed but it wouldn't hurt to also change your Steam account even if it has a different password.

CC info was encrypted (does anyone use CCs over Paypal for Steam?) and Steam passwords themselves were hashed + salted for encryption.

Between those two encryption methods and Steamguard, it's going to be nigh impossible to get into anyone's Steam accounts even with that database. (Though it'd be good to have separate passwords between e-mail and Steam, to ensure Steamguard works in the unlikely event those passwords are ever cracked)

Also it's sounding like the forum passwords weren't encrypted (3rd party forum software. Awesome.) and as such, you should probably change any passwords that share an account name / e-mail with Steam forums.

Oh, and for video game cheap relevance, hells yeah Jamestown DLC for $2! :D

Bleh, wish I could remember which password I used on the Steam forums. I suppose I'll just have to change anything else I haven't changed recently to be safe.
Why would anyone use their CC over Paypal?
A bunch of reasons.... obtaining points, cashback bonuses, flight miles, etc. It also makes use of credit.

However the biggest negative of paypal is that all you need is a single charge back, accidental or not, to disable your account. Then you have to go through the whole process of undisabling it, which could take weeks with steam support.

There's no announcement on the Steam homepage, and I haven't received an e-mail notification about this hack. Why is the burden on me to keep an eye on the news for this kind of information?

If Valve can't rule out the possibility that personal information has been breached and thinks that customers should watch "credit card activity and statements closely," then it ought to give conspicuous notice of the issue.

Because I'm 35 years old and don't use Paypal... or Twitter or MySpace or Facebook or Skype or any of this other new fangled technology. Well, except for Steam. Anyway, the card I use for online purposes is capped at $500 so the amount of hassle I have to go through to contest the few purchases that are made are pretty minor.
Why would anyone use their CC over Paypal?
To be honest, I recently got screwed on GFW Live purely because I chose to use Paypal over my CC. Apparently they store that information, and it doesn't require a log-in to Paypal or something. So, depending on the service and how things are stored, Paypal isn't necessarily any safer.
Why would anyone use their CC over Paypal?
Why use Paypal? I see no reason to trust them more than Steam unless there's something I'm missing.

Sides, they just link to my credit card ANYWAY

Start a Steam game and then close it. You get an announcement.

I always use CC rather than PayPal given the chance. I get cash back for doing so, but perhaps the best reason is that I make myself manually go and get the card and type it in every time -- I don't let Steam save the info. If I'm going to buy something, I make sure I really want it first.

An email would have been much more efficient.

I bit on the new Royale bundle, as Night Sky is on my wishlist. Payed $3.50 when it was $3.44. Fate of the World and the 2-pack of adventure games have been on my "vaguely interested" list, so I'm pretty happy with the price. Wish I'd remembered to check in when the bundle was brand new. Alas.
The 2-pack of Adventure games (Ben There, Dan That and Time Gentleman Please) are pretty awesome. Good old school point & click adventures done by a kickass indie team. They have good humor and puzzles. You should be getting the SE edition of Ben There, Dan That with that Steam download as well.

I do agree, though, their notification method is pretty lackluster. There should be an e-mail and it should be in the News section.

I haven't played a game on Steam for a couple of weeks. I might not have learned about the hack this way for some time.
Wish I'd remembered to check in when the bundle was brand new.
Be glad that you didn't. I was in when it started at $1.99, after about 45 minutes of waiting for the servers to finally allow my payment to go through without a "The website is down" error message, I ended up at $2.60. Not bad, but that's bullshit considering I was there at minute 1... A huge headache to say the least...

Exactly. Stupid Gaben...

I also use a CC over Paypal for Steam. Actually it's a Visa debit card linked to a checking account I opened specifically for buying and selling online, and I try to keep

Hopefully nothing come out of this hack, either way off to wait at Best Buy for my copy of Skyrim for PC in 30 mins. I could of got it for DD but I got it with trade ins at best buy free. Now hopefully those assholes at BB make this night painless.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to call him stupid, but I think that the lesson from the Sony hack is that it's better to warn too much and too soon than to warn too little and too late, and it's disappointing to see that Valve doesn't seem to have learned from Sony's mistake.

Being such a big company, this should not have happened to them. They should have been more prepared, let alone anticipating something of the sort. The information wasn't effectively communicated, a fail on his and Valve's part.

I wish I could do this. I've just memorize the number, and I'm very willing to type in things i have memorized if it means i don't have to get up.

Valve isn't a big company. Their revenues are probably fairly high but they only employ around 250 people. Also, the account information was hashed and salted, and credit card information was encrypted. They were much more prepared for an inevitable attack than Sony.

When I said "Big" I was speaking in terms of revenues. ;) Being that they are probably the most popular DD service on the net.

It's a good idea to use a password manager because of situations like these. Lastpass and KeePass are both good and free. You can easily use a different password for every account that you have and when a site gets compromised you only have to worry about changing one. They'll automate password entry and after the initial setup will probably make your life easier.
so is DOD Source worth it to play? thinking about buying it...
DODS definitely is. It has a good size community, lots of custom maps, and is just plain fun. One lame thing is the removal of some stuff from DoD (like Grease Gun, FG42?). Still it is one of my favorite shooters of all time. It is one of the few shooters that I can pretty much always play.
