Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

If you like adventure games, then you could do a lot worse than pick these up. Fun characters, varied locations and a good story. I haven't played the third (Sleeping Dragon) but the first two are a lot of fun. $3.39 is a lot of bang for the buck.
one of the good kalypso deals is Broken Sword 1-3 for $3.39

Oh, terrific. Thanks for posting this, I would have missed it.

They're classic adventure games. I played the original on the Playstation port when it was new. Loved it, despite the fact that the interface was terrible on a PSX. I haven't played the sequels or the modernized version, but if you're already a fan of the genre, for $3 and change there's no reason not to pick it up.

Just bought a two-pack of Frozen Synapse. PM me if you want the other copy for $6.25. Note that it might be a day or two before I can check my PMs, so feel free to pursue other avenues of getting the game in the meantime. Will update post when it's gone.

Dipped in and bought The Broken Sword Pack, after watching some gameplay videos, they do indeed look fun (though the third one is quite questionable). I'll probably start playing these once I'm done playing Oblivion (if I'm ever done playing that)
Any thoughts on Tropico 3? It's $6.79 for the gold pack. Thinking about it.
I have a former professor, Bryan Caplan, and he was a long time Civ fan (I think his website still has some of his custom scenarios for Civ 2). Anyways, the last time I talked to him he was raving about how great Tropico is. He was saying its one of the best replications of real politics and the underlying public choice issues you can find, so if youre into that kind of thing I consider that a pretty strong recommendation. He also said, unlike Civ, its much more difficult to just game the system.

Personally though, I have yet to try it.

It's shaqfuingly stellar. Kind of a mashup between SimCity and Democracy 2. Except you're a dictator.

Sounds like my type of game. Only problem is I am having problems purchasing it. Stupid Steam

God. Dammit. I forgot that Machinarium save files get flagged by CCleaner for removal unless you exclude them. Wasn't that far in but I don't really feel like redoing anything lol. Wasn't really feeling the game TBH.

Just a reminder in case anyone else had started playing it from the bundle recently.

Gah, when I go to checkout for Tropico 3 it doesn't give me the price or final cost. It just lists all blanks on the checkout page. I am not going to attempt to check out. Hopefully Steam fixes it.

I like it a lot, I grabbed it in the winter sale I think for around the same price

haha wow, thanks for the heads up!

I actually like Frozen Synapse but I refuse to admit it because the fanbase is kinda irritating.

It really needs a way to concede battles midway through though.

Hm, I just re-watched the video, and I don't think the game looks that interesting to me anymore. Guess I've just got so many Steam games to play, that I'd rather play games I own that that one. :D

?

Not the fanbase here. Every other time I've seen it discussed has been by smug dopes so maybe I'm being judgmental but it's enough to scare me off vocalizing my love for the game without conditions.

Ooh, I DO have one big flaw that I don't like from the game. It's really simple to explain the game's central conceit but they really don't: It plays with much simpler mechanics than it looks. Every time unit sees another, a timer starts. When that timer hits zero, a kill shot is fired. Any shots fired before then are just for show to make it seem like you're playing tacticool. Ducking behind cover can hide you from an enemy's point of view but otherwise, ducking and corners do not change that timer. Distance, running, walking, or staying still all effect the timer as you might expect. Shotgun guys have the fastest timer but can't engage at range. Snipers have the longest timer but can engage at range a lot better than riflemen. If your timer won't beat theirs, you can still disengage and run for it. If focus changes, the timer resets, so decoy tactics can work too.

They hint at this but don't make the whole mechanics of the timer explicit when it's simpler to just explain it that way. And then the fans get smug about it.

It's a fine game and worth the entry fee and the soundtrack is great. I just am mad.

Eh then I suspect many will just concede as soon as they loose one guy and that's no fun. I like being forced to actually finish my battles and at least somehow come up with a plan and salvage the game.

I would rather just not go back to that battle or just submit blank turns over and over until the other guy gets the hint.

There are salvagable messes and then there are wankfests where you're just helping the other guy get off.

It's ok, it'll be on sale again

I like the point and click adventures, the Runaway game is fun too and I think I'm getting the deal of three today (well this weekend)

I have a request: Would anyone like to gift me Frozen Synapse and in return I can gift you $13 worth of any games you want for iOS? I have credit on iTunes that I haven't used since I'm not interested in iOS games.

Let me know if someone is interested!

I should really stop buying Steam games. Nothing backlog related, but more so I have to download a good chunk of them still . 125 kb/sec downloading has not been fun.

Got Tropico 3.
$3.39 for three Broken Sword games is a fantastic deal.
Indeed it is, I might actually start playing the first one tonight

Anyone interested in splitting Frozen Synapse? Since each $12.50 purchase gets you two copies, it'd be $6.25 each.
PM me if interested, thanks!

I think part of my problem is that I also enjoy point and click games, and I have a fair few in my backlog. Strong Bad episodes 3-5, Back to the Future, Syberia 1 & 2, Broken Sword 2 & 3...

I'd rather play any of those than Ceville, I guess. Plus, you know, I should be playing my backlog...
$3.39 for three Broken Sword games is a fantastic deal.
Especially since I bought the triple pack for $6.69 in the summer sale. I thought that was a good deal. $3.39 is an insane deal.
Hmmm. I'm thinking about Tropico 3 Gold... does anyone know off-hand if it's been cheaper than the current $6.79?
it was $4.99 during the Summer Sale.
it was $4.99 during the Summer Sale.
Ah cool. Thanks man. I think I'll just wait a bit until it at least hits that again. Got too much of a backlog anyways.
Anyone think that this pack is worth it, I already have darkstar just not on steam, price justify buying for that and 2 blind shot games?

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2327
Personally I think it's worth it, but it was $2.49 for that pack during the Christmas sale 2010. If you're not going to play them immediately, maybe wait until the next Christmas sale? After all, it's only four months away. ;)

Any thoughts on E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy? I was thinking about picking it up, sadly I missed it being 10% off. Also gonna check out the frozen synapse demo.

Bought Puzzler World and the Broken Sword package. I already have the Broken Sword games through GoG with a sale they had once, but having them in my Steam list is so much more convenient. Including the DS version, this marks the third time I've bought Shadow of the Templars without having played it as of yet.
have heard nothing but bad things about it.
same here. I was really hoping that it would be good cuz I like the sound of a steampunk rpg fps. From what I read, it had a lot of bugs, which made it bad. Hopefully once the bugs are ironed out and the game becomes playable, it should be a decent enough game to buy.

It's really rough around the edges right now. They're supposedly working on a big patch, so I wouldn't say buy it right now. Wait and see if they fix up some of the glaring issues (AI, balance, overall clunky feeling, learning curve, etc.).

It's got a lot of really awesome ideas, but the execution is pretty subpar.

EYE is pretty awesome, just, as mentioned, rough around the edges. I haven't really encountered any bugs, just some frustrating design elements. Any game in which you can be hack an ATM machine trying to steal its' loot that hacks you back and forces you to kill yourself is worth a look when it's on sale at least. The only thing I would say I truly dislike is that stealth is pretty hard to play as, but that is apparently one of the focuses for the upcoming patch.

Though it's not steampunk, if you're looking for that.

Ive been surprised at how much I like EYE. I bought it to hold myself over until Deus Ex and wasnt expecting much.

It is a bit rough around the edges, but it has incredible depth and really rewarding co-op play (when you figure out how to make it work). I personally havent had problem with stealthing, but I was let down that the dialogue options are so limited. I also dont like how enemies just spawn, but if you like more action in your shooters that may be a benefit.

I think waiting for the patch is probably a good idea and even then I would get in on a 4-pack or discount.

Dungeons!
I know the reviews for it aren't that great but any CAGs who own it still think it's worth $13?
I've been interested in it for a while, I loved Evil Genius.
And are the DLC packs worth picking up?
