Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I'd also like to know.

There's mods out that fix most of the issues.
I only really had problems when it came to driving and increasing my virtual memory to obscene amounts fixed that.

Hmm, that sort of scares me off of Saints Row 2.

What thoughts are there on Hearts of Iron III? Seems like a lot of content for $15. It looks like a game I might really enjoy if I gave it a shot but with a pretty steep curve. Maybe if it was based on, like, ancient Mars or Egypt or something instead of WWII. :)

Tidalis can be complexly fun but after a while it really starts to grate on you. I played long enough to get 63/64 achvs and I will not be going back or playing the extra 10 hours to get that last one. It doesn't have the draw that Peggle or even Bejeweled has. But for that price if you want a ton of twists on match-3 and a level editor, go nuts.

It's the best GTA since Vice City.

Yeah, played the crap out of it on 360, was more wondering if the terrible port job ruins the fun on pc. I bought it anyway for the low price, for mods of course.

Looks like today's deal is LEGO Batman 50% at 10 bucks.

I really hit the wall with the LEGO games: played the first 2 Star Wars ones with my daughter and we started the 1st Indiana Jones one but stopped. There's charm and a tiny bit of humor, and I guess some fanservice, but it just gets so damned repetitive after a while.

I dont suppose other then Titan Quest and torchlight anyone knows a good Diablo alternative. I have also played Sacred and Numen, I just dont consider them good games/alternatives. I am dying for a Diablo like game but as it stands its going to be October or November at the earliest before TL2 hits....

Well TQ and TL are the best 2, and you've played those. I didn't like Sacred at all; I'm with you there.

How about Magicka? Or Maybe that free Sprial Knights game.

Ok now Steam is really pissing me off. I am supposed to be saving money and then they throw out a Serious Sam 3 preorder for $32. I know I shouldn't, but this is tempting me

You could try the DeathSpank games...they're sort of an Action-RPG. Although I hear they're a bit dull and have no replay value.

Have patience! It will probably be

@gcorelet - Hmmm actually I did buy Magicka during the last steam sale. I heard it was not very Diablo like though since it has no random loot. A lot of people also warned me its not very much fun to play solo.

@Dukeedwards - I already own the deathspank games on my PS3(including baconing which I POed).

Thank you both though! I am debating Bastion. People at gamefaqs in a Diablo 3 topic suggested it.

Path of Exile is looking really good. Bastion is sorta close, but more story driven on centered more on building up a few items, rather than finding items and skilling up. (Still something to look into, though, since it's a good game anyway.)

How long is Bastion and does it have any replay value? I am not going in to it expecting it to be a Diablo style game what so ever, but I am hoping its just close enough to wet my appetite. I love action RPGs in general anyways. It actually looks closer to one of the Seiken Densetsu(secret/legend of Mana)games then Diablo. I am going to download the demo, but I think really the only thing holding me from buying it at this point is that usually id wait for the winter sale and pick it up for 50-75% off. If I am going to spend full price I want to make sure I get at least 12+ hours out of the game.

O and a few people have mentioned Path of Exile. It and Grim Dawn both look really cool and I plan on playing them when they come out....problem is that they are not out and thus not an option ;)

Honestly? For the "Kill a bunch of stuff, get loot, kill more stuff, get more loot, level up, sell loot, kill even more stuff, get more loot, level up" itch, no game scratched like Borderlands. Yeah, it's first person and more uptempo, but when I first played it, I felt that same compulsive urge like back in the Diablo/Diablo 2 days.

I have and have played through all its DLC(cept robot revolution)as each of the 4 charcters and Brick/Roland twice. Needless to say I loved that game. Too bad people didnt create awesome mods to keep it alive.

Well, then you're crap out of luck, man. You'll just have to slip on your patience pants.

If you want Diablo with guns, you could try Borderlands.

I am afraid I ruined my patience pants last time we went to an amusement park. My mind may have been patient but my bladder unfortunately was not. So with those pants long gone I must say.....GOD DAMNIT I WILL KILL SOMEONE IF DIABLO 3, TORCHLIGHT 2, GRIM DAWN OR SOME OTHER HACK AND SLASH LOOT GRIND DOES NOT COME OUT SOON!

On a positive end, if you guys tell me Bastion lasts at least 6 hours and has some basic level of replay I think I may buy that to hold me off.

Man... you killed my upcoming suggestion :/

I'm still playing a lot of TQ though (I keep creating new chars), barely made it to Act III normal.

Yeah Grim Dawn looks closer to a Diablo game then Diablo 3 does! Its not even in Alpha yet though and new info on that game is just trickling out. My guess is that its spring of next year at the earliest before it comes out.

My guess is
Torchlight 2 - November or December most likely but possibly late October
Diablo 3 - Summer or Fall of next year(they arnt even in beta yet!)
Grim Dawn - Spring of next year
Path of Exile - January

Meaning I am guessing TL2 is the soonest we will get a game like this. Thankfully I have a feeling it will last a long long while. I put about 150 hours in to TL1 and I bet TL2 triples that.

I played the original Diablo recently with a friend on netbooks and I hated it. :) Came home and finally got into Torchlight, and I LOVE Torchlight!

At the time, I was desperately seeking SOMETHING we could play instead of Diablo, but I never found a good alternative that was netbook-friendly (despite having a "netbook" mode, Torchlight is not really netbook friendly unless you like slideshows or have a nice netbook).

Diablo I doesn't hold up very well, imo. Diablo II improved on it in so many ways that it's hard for me to go back and play the original.

I know that I'm going to get killed for this but I am really enjoying Darkspore. It is scratching my "kill, loot, rinse, repeat" itch right now better than anything else.

It is tempting, especially since its down to $30...but the bad reviews meant I was waiting for $10ish. If I get desperate enough(or if more people come in saying its good) ill grab it.

Sorry if this was mentioned, but it looks like Borderlands is on sale for $4.99 and the GOTY is $7.49...

http://store.steampowered.com/app/8980/

i might pick it up. I owned the console version but got it at a bad time and never really got into it and ended up trading it in. For $5 I might give this another try...

I've played Borderlands on 360, but want to give it a shot on the PC- never played the DLC. I'm a little hesitant because I heard it wasn't ported well.

But if anyone starts a four pack for GOY edition I'd like to get in on that action.

This is the first I've heard that. I can't recall any egregious cases of console port-itis, so I either was able to change them with a config tweak, or they weren't personally issues for me. For reference, I've got a little over 200 hours logged into the game on Steam.

I tried hard to like Super Laser Racer but it ultimately just wasn't that much fun for me. If you like tiny dots zipping around an overhead-view track then it might be for you. Watch the video they've got and imagine doing that over and over. And over and over.

Knoxx is the best, followed by Zombie Island, Clatrap, and then the questionable Moxxi. Of course at that price, it makes sense to grab them all and if you get the GOTY you're going to have them anyway.

There are a couple of minor annoyances that seem to stem from consoles like mouse movement, awkward menus, and fov, but they truly are minor. It's totally playable and completely enjoyable on PC. Oh, well, the Gamespy integration was a horrible idea so there's that; but otherwise...

Anybody interested to trade?
