Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Although the ports have been smoothed out Guerilla and Armageddon are distinctly console in their design/mechanics. If you're a cross-platform gamer, have at it. If you stick to the PC just be aware what you're buying.

In regards to the Baconing it will probably be on sale again for cheaper. Keep in mind the first two Deathspanks were published by EA and they rarely put their games on sale on Steam. Baconing was self-published by Hothead so, as an indie/small developer, they are more likely to have frequent sales.

Also, thanks for those that mentioned the Fan Patch. This is the first patch I've ever applied, so it was new territory for me. Luckily, it was a cinch.
You are welcome (speaking as just one of the people who mentioned it). I generally don't like modding games until I've played them through "vanilla", but I think TQ is a special case where this patch is an absolute must. I try to spread the word here every time it goes on sale.

Glad to hear that it was easy for you. I know you've mentioned before that you like steam because it makes PC gaming easier. This was a small step outside your box. We'll have you modding Oblivion and Skyrim in no time. ;)
This is the cheapest that RF:Armageddon has been on sale on any of the digital distributor sites. I believe it may have been 50% on D2D a couple months ago. 75% is pretty decent considering it came out exactly 4 months ago. And yes, it is Steamworks.

I predict that it will take another 6 months to a year to reach the $5 mark. It seems that steam rarely does anything over 75% unless it's Indie (Alpha Protocol was a recent exception). Therefore, RF:A would have to permanently decrease to $20 and then be discounted an additional 75%. In all likelihood, you won't see it for $5 until the Summer Sale of 2012.
I am extremely tempted to pick Armageddon up. A few weeks a go I would have passed but I recently watched the Sci-Fi Movie and found the universe/lore much more interesting than I had thought it was. It has me really excited to play a game in that universe.

Only thing I didn't like was how small your inventory is at the beginning of the game, hopefully it gets bigger later. I had to make so many trips back to town to sell stuff, but at least they make it easy to do with the portal.
It does. Along the way, you will be given backpack upgrades that open up more space in your inventory.

However, a word of advice. I too focused on carrying crap back to town and selling it. With an OCD-like focus. Because I needed the cash, right?

Well, you don't. The rusty daggers and broken spoons (and whatever) in this game are worth so little, they simply don't add up. If you hold down the Alt key, the game will highlight items on-screen that are good quality and above (yellow, orange, green, purple, etc), leaving all the common stuff (gray) unmarked. If you just collect the stuff that's not gray, you're getting 90% of the value on the ground, but only collecting 15-20% of the stuff. Fewer trips back to town, and each trip is worth much more.

This will also help you find the best equipment for your own use.

The "X" key works similarly, showing you just the really high-grade stuff. You won't see any of that for a while, but eventually you will switch to using the "X" key for just picking up the very best items to sell.

The "Z" key shows everything on the ground.

But yes, definitely do collect and sell stuff. There are potions and scrolls that you can buy later in the game that cost, literally, hundreds of thousands of gold each. Depending on which character class you're playing, they can really shore up your weaknesses in the boss battles.

On Titan Quest, I think the modding community released something that had the effect of no more grey/trash items dropping. I'm not sure how this was accomplished (or what things on game balance it touches, as I think enemies drop their equipped items), but it's something to look into...because 90% of that trash really is just trash.

Also, to note, I had a problem with it for one of the bosses in the desert area. Unloading it fixed it, and then I just loaded it again. (This was a *long* time ago when it first came out, so it may have been fixed by now...maybe.)

Acutally, I wonder if that's in the Fan Patch that was mentioned. ><

Also...holy crap Oblivion modding can be a whole game and afternoon in and of itself.

Yes! That's the one. It's a breeze to install. Install TQ and Immortal Throne in Steam. Then download the Fan Patch 1.17a from the site you referenced. Run it when it's downloaded. It fixes a ton of little bugs in the game, and a graphical glitch that makes the final chapter unplayable on newer machines. Seriously - couldn't be easier. There's no mod manager or anything like that.

I played with a Druid character and I was floored when I read all the little bugs that the Fan Patch fixes for my character. No changes to the story, just that damage for some spells wasn't being calculated correctly and things like that.

There is a late-game glitch in the Immortal Throne chapter (like, 60+ hours into the game) that the Fan Patch fixes. The story goes that the Iron Lore development team was only kept on long enough to finish Immortal Throne, and terminated as soon as the expansion was released. There were no subsequent bug fixes.

(However, the dev team regrouped as Crate Entertainment, and is currently developing a new game called Grim Dawn, which you can follow here.)

Have fun. PM me if you have any trouble.
Thanks to everyone for the info regarding the patch - I just finished reinstalling TQ:Gold and applying the patch this morning - will be firing that up after work tonight :)
I must have missed those sales, this is the cheapest I've seen Armageddon besides the onlive sale where it was about $9. I did a quick search for the sales but couldn't find any cheaper than this, can anyone confirm? Isnt the game a steamworks game? It shouldn't matter where you buy it.
He was talking about Guerrilla everywhere but the very first sentance, read the post again. There hasn't been any cheaper price on Armageddon.
Although the ports have been smoothed out Guerilla and Armageddon are distinctly console in their design/mechanics. If you're a cross-platform gamer, have at it. All the graphical options you could want are available and I'd bet it runs and looks far better than the console version. "Console design/mechanics" as you call it don't play any worse on the PC if you have a controller for it, which I would strongly recommend anyone to get.

$12.50 for Armageddon. It still seems way too much for me. I think I will wait till it hits $7.50 or $5. I thought the demo was good but nothing spectacular.

Third person over the shoulder perspective, regenerating health, cover mechanics. Those are the design aspects I'm talking about. Nothing to do with graphics or the input device (although qualifying opinions with 'if you have a controller' is questionable). As I said if you are a cross platform gamer, have at it.

Interface felt clunky/console-y to me on Red Faction Guerilla, not substantially so though.

RFG is a crummy game with a great sledge-hammer breaking balsa wood buildings engine attached to it. It's just a dull game if you aren't breaking stuff. PC version gets the crummy DLC campaign for free so the questionable value is better for the PC version.

In this case, applying the fan patch was relatively easy. I wouldn't have patched the game if I hadn't heard there were serious problems without the patch.

And yes, I've heard Oblivion modding is a treat. Me, I've never played it, intending to get my fill of Skyrim soon. :D

They keep throwing numerous upgrades at you that provide bigger explosions and faster ways to rip down everything around you.

The biggest travesty of RFG is the only thing to differentiate one area from the next is what shade of brown the terrain happens to be. Once you've seen the first area you've pretty much seen the entire game. There's also a good amount of dead space between one town and the next. There's also a handful of annoying escort missions (why do developers continue to insist on having escort missions?).

That being said, the destructibility was strong enough that it made it one of the more enjoyable sandbox games I've had the pleasure of playing.

RF: Armageddon is a really solid game and well worth the money. 8-10 hours of solid third person shooter goodness. Plus it's fun to get the Unicorn butt gun afterwards.

To chime in about Red Faction: Guerrilla. I had one major problem of the game which led me to stop playing it. It seemed every time I was trying to take down a building there was like an endless wave of fucking guards shooting at me for no apparent reason (When I say endless I mean endless, like I would kill some guards then more would just keep on appearing). It got very annoying, but besides that fact RFG is an alright game.

I would say it's a go for $5.

It is endless, your wanted level goes up ala GTA. It kinda sucks, but if you've got influence in the area, civilians usually keep em off your back.

This is how I felt about the game. The open world is great as a destruction sandbox, but terrible when it comes to the story missions. Die in a mission because waves of enemies come at you from 3 sides and you don't have any cover still standing? There's a good chance you'll have to drive 1/3 of the way across an empty map because the game doesn't always give you a good check point.

The game is a lot of fun and is easy to recommend for $5. Don't hesitate to turn the difficulty down to easy on this one, you'll have just as much fun and lose the frustration.

Essentially, if you want a game in which you can run around and create chaos then RFG is a great game. If you expecting a story (and a good campaign to follow it) then you will probably be disappointed. And even though the PC version does have a few problems (The only one I had was that it ran too fast) it is well worth $5. According to Steam I got 21 hours out of the game (that includes some multiplayer, which if you can find a game it is very fun... unfortunately the community is tiny) and that was well worth the $5 I spent.

For $5, RFG is an very easy recommendation. The super-fun building smashing alone is worth it, though as said the single player storyline and missions are iffy (but let's face it, you can say that even about the GTAs).

Yeah, I usually don't like to skip cutscenes but in this case I probably will go crazy there. Unless I want to make jokes about them or laugh at them, this is a game where running around smashing things with a hammer comes above all else.

I just put in a bit of time with my $5 Titan Quest purchase and I'm really enjoying it thus far. It had been on my wishlist for a while and it definitely scratches the isometric lootfest itch nicely. The inventory system is a little strange with a grid determining your capacity and it isn't always clear where exactly you need to go for quests but it controls nicely and can be easily (if slowly) played with just the mouse. I'll definitely be coming back to this one often and is a steal for $5, including the expansion.

Sounds about right.

Can't believe I posted about this game twice without remembering one of my favorite game videos of all time:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcUBI-YVRY8

Lol... Dude that was too much haha... You should put a spoiler alert on that video, because that just summed up the game. I haven't even played it yet and I feel like I have by watching that video lol... Bravo :applause:

You are an effing hero.
Today's THQ deal is Homefront and its DLC for 50% off.
I have this on onlive. I've had it since launch. I was really excited to play the game and loved the concept but its execution just isn't there. If feels generic and people don't seem to behave genuinely to their characters and situations. For $5 it would be worth trying out at $15 its way overpriced.

Since I just recently played (and completed) Homefront, I figured I would be in a good of a position as any to tell you if it is worth picking up. Now I can't comment on the multiplayer section of the game, because I don't do multiplayer, I can tell you all about the single player campaign.

It's short. Reeeeeaaaly short. I suck at games, and yet I completed the game (with multiple deaths) in 5 hours, so anyone who is slightly skilled in FPS should easily be able to finish the main campaign in 4 hours. The game looks gorgeous, we are talking Crysis levels of graphics here (for the time that is) and the story is pretty good too, the gameplay however, is sadly very basic. It boils down to "follow this person" for a bit and then have a "firefight" / "sniper some people" or "shoot from the back of a moving vehicle" mission, then rinse and repeat until the game is finished. Don't get me wrong, it was still fun (in a Modern Warfare kinda way) just a bit unvaried.

The game is definitely worth picking up for a quick play (if you don't mind short games) especially if you can get it cheap (I picked it up for $12.50 from D2D awhile back, but had $12 in credit that was about to run out and I would say that had just about gotten my moneys worth, but probably overpaid) , you just can't help thinking that the game could have been a lot more if the gameplay and length were spruced up a tad.

Really? I know I played this on onlive but it felt very dated graphically and I know I read a few reviews that said the same. I guess its a subjective call.

THQ Daily- Homefront $15
Weekend Deal- Tomb Raider (Anniversary $3.39, Legend $5.09 and Underworld $6.79).
Daily Deal- Heroes of Might and Magic V- $5

I expect Dawn of War to be the THQ Weekend Deal.

I agree with this. I won a copy for the 360 and was thoroughly disappointed. Great concept, poor execution. Maybe if they'd redirected some of that massive marketing budget back into development they'd have had something. It's also insanely short and if you're into these games you probably already have a better competitive multiplayer game installed.

I don't know about the PC version, but the console version looked awful. Part of that was that it felt like it was running at a very low resolution, so it may not be as bad here.

$12.50 from D2D, yeah that's what I had in mind. I passed then, don't see why I should bite this time. Also, the 3 Tomb Raiders are on sale. How do they compare to the 360 versions? I have those, but if the PC version are notably better looking, I might bite.

That would be awesome. The whole DoW 1 series for $10 maybe? /drool

Probably just DoW II since only DoW II is in the big pack.

I've got a good feeling DoW will be the weekend THQ deal too. Still holding out hope that Saint's Row 2 might be down to $5 tomorrow.

Saint's row 2 retail activates on steam, I've seen it fairly regularly at that price point retail shipped.

My guess is DoW II, they go on sale often and they are huge money makers because they have dlc.

Could be. They put the 360 Games on Demand version on sale (the first GoD game available for less than $20) this week along with all of the DLC and the third one is almost out.

Be that as it may, when Red Faction went on sale, it was a franchise sale, which included Red Faction and Red Faction 2. There goes your logic, good sir! Well played. =P

I expect DoW to be included in the DoW II sale, as it will most likely also be a franchise sale.

Not to mention DoW II and Company of Heroes were both Weekend Deals a few weeks back. Maybe in August. Darksiders was a daily a few weeks back as well. It could be Saints Row II, I wouldn't be surprised.

Man, I'm really hoping for a 40k franchise weekend sale. Been wanting to grab some Retribution DLC, and I'm enough of a CAG that $3.33 seems so much more appetizing than $6.66. =P Also, the potential for a sale on Space Marine would be pretty awesome. The demo was really great.

While they did just have some sales recently on both DoW and CoH, I think it's far more likely than not they'd plan a weekend sale around the Warhammer franchise than a single (somewhat) random product from the catalog.

Welp, regardless here's to hoping!

I may be alone in this, but Im actually hoping MX V. ATV will be the weekend deal because I need something to hold me over until I can get some of the Race games on sale.

Also +1 on thoughts about the TR games on PC. I have Underworld on PS3 already and was thinking of picking up the PS3 triple pack, but if the PC version are better I might just buy Anniversary now. Was the original Tomb Raider built on M+K controls?

Hmm...thinking about Heroes of Might and Magic V. Always had an interest in it, but I did pick up the King's Bounty collection from Amazon a couple of weeks back. I heard the two games are very similar in gameplay? I probably won't have much time to play both of them especially since I picked up Titan's Quest the other day. But I'm wondering if this is worth having in the collection?

I'm hoping it shows up for $5 myself 75% off. I'm willing to try it at that price.

Eh, Homefront seems overpriced at $15. I was ready to grab it if it hit $10. Oh well I can wait, not in any rush to try that game. Really hoping for DoWII as the weekend deal!

the game is fine for $5 . . . but, I think "The Heroes PacK" was really cheap during the summer - probably just better to wait since it doesn't sound like you'll be playing it any time soon.

Perfect. Thanks for the info. Definitely not "dying" to play it but it's something I'd like to have eventually. And if I can get the Heroes Pack for cheap then I'll just wait it out in hopes for another sale :)

Ended up biting on the first 2 Red Factions last night... after I spent all day telling myself not to, of course.

I'm tempted to rebuy TRA just to have it on Steam, but I think it may have been cheaper at some point. I have a terrible copy with limited activations and file download issues from one of Gamestop's old DD platforms that I'd really love to replace.
