Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

In for Orcs Must Die, the demo was blood good fun and I wanted it even at 50% off. This feels like robbery. Also, the Renegade Ops 4-pack is $15 ($3.75 a piece!), I'm totally buying one and gifting it to my friends. 4 player online car combat mayhem? Sold!

I don't know how any of you can claim this is not a good start to the sale...I find it to be damn amazing. Portal 2 for a smidge over $10!? That game is awesome!

Orcs Must Die looks interesting I might pick that one up, anybody care to recommend it?

Duke Nukem is tempting but I think I'll wait for it to hit $5.

I gotta agree this is a strong start to the sale. Orcs must die and Renegade Ops are mine and that's just for starters!!!

ugh, I passed on the halloween sale, wondering if I should pass on this sale as well. I really want ME2, just finished ME 2 weeks ago. I just know that the holiday sale will take all my money.

Does everyone think we will see lower pricing for the holiday sale?
So... what are the chances of Steam adding Skyrim as a daily deal on the Autumn sale
0%

The game is selling like hotcakes already. Great sales on the PC and it has been number 1 on the top seller list on Steam since it came out

Are the controls in DNF significantly better than the 360 version? I am used to a controller, and I know you guys think KBM is vastly superior, but in the DNF demo the controls were awful. I heard they were much, much better on pc. Is this true?

A slight complaint for a great start to a sale: I have been monitoring the price of Costume Quest as I missed the Halloween day sale since I was out of town. The normal price dropped to $10 after the Halloween sale but it is now $15 normal price with a 50% discount for this sale. I really hope this isn't a beginning trend to confuse buyers like Dell does with their sales....

So in for Orcs Must Die!!! I was so disappointed I missed out on the IGN Prime deal to get it for free but this works since I get the DLC as well.

Nothing for me today, but happy to see the sale has started. I'm hoping for Bastion, and probably others I don't know that I want. :p
Faery Solitaire is a totally wonderful game. I get tired of general solitaire games after the first few clicks (MS Solitaire burned me out years ago, LOL) but this is a really nice take on the game. It's fun, relaxing, and a great price. Highly recommended.
It is great. And I already beat the game on my husband's Steam account. And now I want it for my own. :joystick:
You mean if you receive a gift you want to gift it to someone else instead of taking it yourself? I don't think you can, if you don't accept it, the original gifter gets to give it to someone else instead at their discretion.

I believe you can buy games as gifts, and later gift them to yourself.
I think perhaps I got confused, mixing up the program where you can buy games to gift later. I just could have sworn I could hold onto games that got gifted to me then regift them. Not finding anything on the internet about that, so I guess I'm crazy.
I know for sure that you can trade games in your inventory and games received stay in your inventory until you "unpack" them, which associates the game with your account.

Specifically, though, if someone sends you a gift the old way then I don't know for sure.

Summary: Have the person trade the gift to you so you can keep it in your inventory.
I'm guessing you're referring to Team Fortress, and I don't play that. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

No, you can do this with items now as well. Basically instead of giving the item through the traditional pane they gift it to you through a chat window and click trade items. Also when you buy items as a gift you now have the ability to add them to your account to gift later. I just don't know if you can add an item to your trade items that was gifted in the old way.

From one controller-preferer to another, I thought gun movement was slow, so I switched to k+m and had a better time with it... but I have had a hard time playing it cause it's so damn boring
Does Mass Effect 2 deluxe come with the mission DLC? It doesn't state it on the steam page. All it says is some art and weapon packs.
Since I didn't see it answered at time of writing, nope. The only thing you really get extra is an exclusive armor set + exclusive gun (Collector Armor + Collector Assault Rifle). There's also the Incisor and possibly other weapons, but those are included in the different DLC you can buy in the game.

Aside from that though none of the post release (ie new, not in the CE) weapon packs, and certainly none of the DLC missions.

Okay, I looked into this and see that option now. It looks like not everything works. For example, I've got a copy of Titan Quest Gold I'm holding onto. It shows up under Manage Gifts, but it doesn't show up as available to trade when I connected with a friend's account.

Constant crashing on the Steam deals page... must be overloaded. I have like 20 more pages to go and I'm listing down the things that are interesting to me.

I just started the full game and it feels fine and unlike when it first came out, they've added the ability to carry four weapons at a time instead of just two for the console kids weaned on Halo.

Valve extended TF2's inventory system to Steam itself, and it works with steam gifts too now. I've never traded a game this way (though I'd be happy to try it out) but it sounds like once you trade for a game, it stays in your Steam inventory until you open it or trade it away.

So everything on my wishlist is 33%-50% off.. except for Dead Rising 2. :dunce: Totally not surprised, though. Even if it does come up in a daily deal, my guess is that it would be discounted at 50% at most (making it a laughable $14.99).

Anyway, I'm glad Steam's not doing that stupid bulk purchase deals. It was hardly worth the effort to save a few dollars to find a group of people and coordinate the exchange. With this autumn sale looking off to a good start, I wonder how they'll top this off during the winter sale.

They have a 4 pack of rengade ops for $15 - anyone want to split that with me?

I think last year they only did it to push the trading system. Most of the promotions they had last year revolved around newer or under utilized steam features.

The game trading system? I don't think they had implemented that until recently (a few months ago, if I remember correctly). Which would put their bulk purchase sales event way before the trading system was in place. My guess would be that they were pushing their gifting feature. Regardless, I'm just happy they're not doing it again.
I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but I'll give my input, anyway: 2-4 packs are fine. What I don't think is fine were the 5-8 packs. I remember they had a 6-pack for a game that only supported 4 players. What's the point?
Not being sarcastic - just want to save a few bucks. :bouncy:

Oh man, thinking of getting renegade ops.
Just bought Portal 2.
Good sale for me so far.

I'm really hoping they have a PayDay: The Heist discount.

I'm with you on PayDay: The Heist. It's 33% off right now, but still going to hold out hope it gets marked up even more tomorrow.

Not sure if already mentioned, but Cthulu Saves the World/Breath of Death VII is $1. I'm not much of a pc gamer but I'm excited to check these two out.

just bought orcs must die + dlc, and a 4-pack renegade ops. If anyone wants a code, I have 3 renegade ops, ping me.

Oh, and bought faerie solitare and runespell too!! Steam deals are awesome!

Thank you for answering my question.

It's odd that they don't include or even offer the DLC for Mass Effect 2 on steam. The shadow broker DLC was my favorite mission in that game- Asari .

The past year, EA was pulling some of their games and content to be sold primarily on Origin, so that might be why.

Question is, can you still buy DLC for ME2 if you buy it on Steam?

Sorry I mean the gifting system rather than the trading system.

My understanding is bioware DLC has always been offered through bioware's site. The only exception to this is when its bundled into the Ultimate edition etc where they give you multiple redemption codes.

When you launch the game you login to your Bioware account and it sees what you own and allows you to download if needed. It's very controlled and the DLC rarely if ever goes on sale. Recently Origin did have discounted Bioware Points though.

ME2 DLCs are only sold through Bioware's own storefront. They're not available through Origin as far as I know.

The DLCs should be compatible with all versions of ME2. Of course you'll need Bioware point phun bucks to buy them and are not sold direct. :)

Oh yup, that's correct! I forgot about that. Has been a while since I played Dragon Age. ;)

I have some microsoft point codes from the recent gamestop instant win game. I would be willing to trade 3 x 160 point codes (6$) for a renegade ops game.

Picked up Orcs Must Die and the DLC, plus the Delve Deeper DLC since it was only $0.24. If the Delve Deeper DLC is part of a daily deal I may have overpaid by 10 cents or so.

Debating the Dejobaan Complete Pack, but I already have the original AaAaAA!!!, I'm not sure if I want to spend $10 on everything else.

I already see a bunch of games I will pick up even if they don't become Daily Deals, especially Bulletstorm for $10, and Puzzle Agent 2 even though it's only 33% off now. But I will wait til the last day.

This is already a good start to the sale, I wonder if Black Friday will have some over the top discounts.

Thank you for shedding some light on the situation.

Looks like I'm in for ME 1&2. I don't know if I'll ever get around to playing them again, but I like having the option.

Deus EX: HR isn't on steam anymore?

I have it in my WL. It isn't showing a price, also when I click on the store page button it sends me to steam's front page (the same as DA2).

If that isn't steam's official sales motto, I don't know what is.

Is it cheap? Well, I don't know if I'll ever play it, but it's nice to have the option.

200+ games later... Crap. What have I done?

I just got off a plane and checked my Steam wishlist. Everything is on sale and this thread is like 90 pages longer. If my brain explodes before I get caught up on all of this I want everyone in thread to know that I love each and everyone of you. Good bye!

Looks like it's just DNF for today. I have my eye on Garry's Mod in case it isn't a daily.

If you liked any one of the Oddworld games, I'd highly recommend getting the Oddboxx. Portal 2 for $10 is also excellent.

Its page has changed, so you have to re-add it and remove the "old" one that no longer works. I had the same thing happen.

Is 12.50 a good price for Oblivion? I'm loving Skyrim and now I'm looking to going back and playing the other games in the series.

Sale is ideal, but how long will it last and do you think a further drop is possible?
