Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Oh, by the way, if you don't buy Orcs Must Die! at this price, you can only be one of those people who torture puppies, kittens, and babies for fun.
Torture the kitten and babies! I bought it, but I only care about the puppies.
Not sure if already mentioned, but Cthulu Saves the World/Breath of Death VII is $1. I'm not much of a pc gamer but I'm excited to check these two out.
I bought those plus ME2 Deluxe and Orcs Must Die! + DLC.

Grabbed Orcs Must Die and part of a Renegade Ops 4-pack. Gonna try not to buy too much with the holiday sale right around the corner!

anyone have thoughts on Risen? I'm sure I'll wait for Risen 2 to come out for cheaper deals on it, but I'm curious on the thoughts of it currently. Because it has been a game that has been on my radar. I know there is a demo but being school work I have to do I don't have much time to test drive anything. Just trying to scoop deals.

Risen was cheaper during the Summer Sale ($10) and will probably be cheaper during the Holiday Sale.

Some feedback on Dungeon Defenders. I got this back when it was released for TF2 items. It's funny... the developers took a really good concept and are ruining it. Today they release three DLC: one free, two paid. The free holiday DLC is AWFUL. The map is uncreative, boring, and offers nothing in the way of interesting rewards save a skin. The two paid DLC are basically pay-to-win. In the $4 one you get the 'gender opposite' heroes of the existing ones that have the same towers but new, overpowered hero abilities. The second for $2 is just a set up four maps that: 1) use existing maps from the base game; and 2) use an existing game mode from the base game... oh but they have new powerful item rewards. Really seems like it's going in the direction of a pay-to-win MMO. That said, the base game for $7.50 is a good enough deal, just don't get your hopes up of continued longevity.

I played the DD demo and didnt really like it. The only thing that enticed me was the co-op play.

It is 5.3 for the base game in the 4-pack. Im hoping its a daily deal as well, so I can pick it up on the real cheap.

Shoot, I was thinking of getting Skyrim at gamesplanet if it doesn't go on sale on Steam cause they have 17% off til Nov 29. I just checked their site and they switched it to 14% off til January 16!

I don't know for certain (and I haven't checked any of the CAG threads that deal with retail ads) but there's a possibility you'll probably find better sales on Skyrim retail as stores look to move existing stock.

So they never really fixed Stranger's Wrath right? I know there was talk of an HD version and how the PC version was going to get a free upgrade .... but that was all bs and it's still a shoddy port right?

Might I suggest AudioSurf for $5 if you haven't played it already?! It's a steal at it's regular $10; 50% off is just a bonus.

Load an mp3, enjoy the ride. Five Finger Death Punch's Bad Company cover is AWESOME!!!!

The HD version for the PC was going to be worked on after the PS3 version was released. And that was only released about a week ago. Anyway, it's $3.75 for all four games. HD version or not it's a great deal.

Total war games are really fun, lots of people cite Rome or Medieval II as their favorites so if you like those types of games you can't go wrong with that pack (though it might either be a daily deal or be cheaper at christmas)

I have the first men of war and the red tide, and they are fun but can be brutally hard. So you might want to look into those a bit more before you bite on the men of war.
God damn Faerie Solitare is addicting.
It sure is. I put 34 hours into it. Once you get going and have lots of options there's this rhythm to the gameplay that evens out some of the inherent randomness of solitaire.
So is this the black friday sale going on or just the autumn sale? I'm not seeing a ton of ZOMG deals yet...
New sales each day. There are tons of games that are 75% off. There are three big games on the front page now that were released this year - Portal 2, TDU2, and Duke Nukem Forever.

Bit on the Portal 2 double pack. I didn't own it yet and neither did my gf, whose been watching playthroughs over and over. It was originally going to be her Christmas present, but she'll probably have watched so many playthroughs by then she'll be sick of it if I don't get it now lol
Yeah, seriously. It's (Jade Empire) literally never been on sale since I started using Steam.
I think I got a boxed copy on sale at Amazon, or maybe NewEgg, for like $5? That was a long time ago though. The game is... kinda ok. I liked the story more than the gameplay.

IMO, it might be a Bioware thing. I hardly ever see Bioware games on sale at Steam.
Great price on Orcs Must Die. The demo was incredibly fun. Grabbing the DLC too.

And there won't be any more DLC. So we can buy now knowing that we're getting Orcs Must Die "Complete" for $5.35
Thanks for that info, I was on the fence about Orcs Must Die since I hate buying a game before all the dlc is out but now it's a no brainer.
That is what im considering for today as well. ME2 has been $5 every single time and I knew to wait on the Amazon sale. I can always wait on it to be cheaper ? I also have most of the DLC for Xbox.

Might grab the DLC for Orcs must Die. Played the demo and loved it. Love tower defense games and the demo was alot of fun. I like the cartoony look and action.
The one thing that is pushing me to buying Mass Effect 2 is the possibility of EA pulling it from Steam like Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2.

Orcs Must Die seems very cool. I think I'll download the demo and test it out tonight.

Impulse is going to have Civilization V on sale for 7.50 tommorow (thursday). It's a Steamworks game, and the best price I've seen it at.

EA is only going to pull games thave DLC still coming out (since that was a huge part of their fighting), which ME games obviously do not.

Good to hear about OMD... I guess. Strange they put it out then dropped it to 75% off within a month and won't be making any further content. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to see this in a future indie bundle.

ME2 is grandfathered in like other games before who it, who had exclusive DLC on other services, before Steam released their new rule.

DA2 and Crysis 2 got pulled b/c they broke a new Steam rule - DLC cannot be exclusive to other PC digital stores; they must be ALSO released on Steam.
Steam wants to be able to sell you every piece so you have complete products...and probably take a cut of the money while they're at it, too.
Remember - once that new rule was in place, Fable 3 and Super SF4 got all their DLC also sold on Steam, as well.

still have a couple keys left for renegade ops if anyone is interested.

Edit: all the keys are gone, thanks for the interest!

Mass Effect is my favorite game series and I want to pick them up cheap before I miss the chance and regret it, however I already have both and I could buy something else with that $10. I may play it but can anyone give me any outstanding reasons why I should or shouldn't pick up the pc version. Oh and I won't be getting ME3 on pc so, again, I'm torn on weather it's worth it or not.

Thank you both for a refresher on that situation (it had been awhile since I thought about it).

I think I will probably pass on Mass Effect 2 again since I still need to finish the first one.

They aren't going out of print. If you've already played them on Xbox and plan to finish the fight - wait, have I changed series? - in ME3 on Xbox, then buy something else now and pick ME on PC some other time.

I beat both games on Xbox and subsequently rebought them on PC. The command for your squad are a more finely controlled because of the mouse+keyboard setup and having a bunch of keys available as opposed to only 10 buttons on a gamepad. I played a little of ME1 on PC and perhaps 10 hours of ME2 (or however long it took to clean out the gambling satellite and get the Doctor into my party) on PC with a copy a friend gave me the code for when he got a copy with his Dragon Age purchase. (I'd bought him ME1 on Steam for $10 about two weeks before they put it up for $5. Argh.)

So that's the whole story. Well I am glad Steam releases all DLC because quite seriously I would rather get it all in one place instead of having to use x service to get DLC, that and DLC sales

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I'll probably end up replaying me2 on xbox over pc anyway because I want the final difficulty achievement. I'll probably get psychonauts or renegade ops instead.

Risen is a fantastic game who's only drawback is that the combat system becomes very predictable and thus boring about 1/4 into the game.

If you've ever played Gothic 1/2, you know what to expect.

If you aren't going to play it between now and the next sale in a month, just wait until then. It probably will stay the same price or possibly decrease.

I've just brought my wife into a bigger gaming world by getting her to set up a Steam account. I gifted her Faerie solitare to start. Hopefully it's the beginning of a much bigger addiction.
Is this likely the best price Mass Effect 2 will be? I got the first when it was $5 in May but still haven't gotten around to playing it.
I really don't see an EA game dropping lower than $5 on Steam. Hell, Mirror's Edge has never been lower than $5.
So that's the whole story.
Not all of it.
Also, there was another disagreement b/t Valve and EA - EA wanted Origin to handle updates for their EA games, not Steam.
As you know - All Steam-sold games, they must be updated via Steam.

Well I am glad Steam releases all DLC because quite seriously I would rather get it all in one place instead of having to use x service to get DLC, that and DLC sales

Agreed.

Plus, there's a MUCH better chance that base game + DLC will be guaranteed to work w/ a game's Steam version, if Steam's also going to be selling you the DLC - since you pretty much [in most cases] will have to run the Steam program in the background.
Likely, forcing DLC to be sold on Steam will make sure the DLC's tested to work w/ Steam version of the game.

If say Origin is the only place selling DLC, why should Valve care if non-Steam DLC works w/ a base game from Steam? Valve, if they wanted to here, could only care that what they sold you actually works.
Valve has done one better, of course - for a base game sold on Steam, all its DLC must be sold there, too.
Front page on Steam say this sale's going on until Nov. 27th.
Thanks. Guess I just didn't see it.
Tempted by the most disappointing game in history, but at this rate it'l be $3 by next year so I think I'll hold off.
Yep that is my theory as well.

Picked up Orcs Must Die as my Skyrim palette cleanser. Looks like a fun game.

I think you're talking about DNF.
If yes - bah, DNF ain't that bad, honestly.
It's decent fun...but, that's about it.
Don't expect more or less than that.

It was surely worth the $10 that I spent on it, when GameStop Impulse [now GameStop PC App] had it on sale.
For the most part, I had a fun time w/ the SP...and especially the MP.

The MP feels more like a throwback to the good old days in the 1990's of MP - back when Quake, Unreal games, and DN3D ruled the Net. That was back when skill mattered, not what level you are and what guns and equipment you had unlocked.
All the leveling in the MP here in DNF are cosmetic unlocks for cool outfits and stuff for your DNF House.

DNF's biggest problem in the SP is the game's pacing.
It starts off REALLY SLOW, until you leave the casino...
There's another level that's quite repetitive, too - the level w/ the vehicle w/ the 3 gas can trips.
Is this likely the best price Mass Effect 2 will be? I got the first when it was $5 in May but still haven't gotten around to playing it.
Well, ME1 has never been under $5, so yeah, I think this will be the best price.

I'll vote also that Faerie Solitaire is addictive. That being said, it isn't the most well behaved app. I've played it twice so far and it has hung and crashed Windows Exploder both times. It also occasionally slows down a little bit.

I did try out Orcs Must Die, and while it was enjoyable, I don't see enough value for me to get it right now.

Never had a problem with solitaire... maybe it's just my good fortune.. *knocks on wood* Great game, especially for the price just to kill some time.
