Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Note: Only the retail games listed above can be registered through Steam. No other retail games can be registered and downloaded using Steam.

For the past week, the steam page has showed me incorrect prices like MW3 for 29.99 and right now it says Portal 2 is 5.09. Is there a fix for this?

I cant remembr the exact fix but you might be in the wrong region. In the URL address bar change the text to US or something like that fixes it.
So how likely is it that ME3 will be sold on Steam?

It would be silly to have 1&2 on Steam without 3.
VERY doubtful.

Two things.

Valve and EA are having disagreements over how games are distributed - EA wants all their EA game downloads and patches to done through Origin, while all Steam-sold versions of games requires DL's and updates done directly through Steam.

The other thing is one of the NEW Steam rules is that ALL NEW DLC cannot be exclusive to OTHER PC download services. Hence why Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2 got kicked-off Steam - b/c EA wants to sell some exclusive DLC sold through ONLY Origin, not Steam. Steam is trying to make sure they can sell you complete products that WILL be able to work w/ Steam running in the background....and try and make some $ off any DLC sold through their service while they're at it, too.

Some Steam-sold versions of games like Fable 3 and Super SF4 are STILL on Steam b/c even though they also use and require G4WL, their NEW DLC can be purchased directly through Steam.

Mass Effect 2 is still on there b/c it's grandfathered in to stay on Steam, before the NEW Steam rule about "ALL DLC must also be sold on Steam" came about....for now. Though, If EA decides to sell NEW ME2 DLC and do it exclusively through Origin, expect ME2 to get kicked off Steam. I doubt they'll do that and release new DLC for ME2, since they're ramping up for ME3 next year.

BF3, ME3, and TOR are likely not coming to Steam anytime soon, given that Valve and EA haven't came to any agreements on this whole ordeal.
That's strange. My husband logged onto my Steam account last night from his computer, and it seems all of my categories are gone and all games are unsorted. Major bummer. :(
Yeah, that's a fairly common issue. While not quite the same, Steam has been wiping my recently played shortlist, accessible when you click on the tray icon. I always use that since minimized Steam takes up less RAM than the full window.

It's crazy they still haven't fixed the categories bug, that's been happening for some time now. And a lack of tagging/sorting is downright mindboggling.

Man, that sucks. I really enjoyed having everything in categories for the months I had it. Oh well. Having shortcuts for all the games I'd like to play soon on my desktop works okay. The games show up bolded, so to speak, in my library, which also works. Still, categories were superior.

Yeah, I love organizing a library of content. I really wish it would let me rename games (so no more AC:B before AC2, or "BATMAN(c) ARKHAM CITY(c) PC") or tag them so I could sort by more than just one dimension of a game. Take Skyrim: I could put it under Bethesda, Elder Scrolls, RPG, In Progress, Moddable, etc. I can't just pick one way of categorizing (by genre? By publisher?) so I've just stuck with unorganized. It's a headahce at almost 200 titles, but what can you do?
Steam is trying to make sure they can sell you complete products that WILL be able to work w/ Steam running in the background....and try and make some $ off any DLC sold through their service while they're at it, too.
Really, it's just about making money. There's really no higher purpose or meaning behind Steam's new rule. It's meant solely to capitalize on the F2P games they're adding. It's done so that these games can't circumvent Steam for their premium goods shops, and Steam gets a cut of that for "selling" the game through Steam. The unfortunate (and, really, rather short-sighted consequence) of this new rule is this fallout with EA, or other publishers who want to distribute DLC through non-Steam methods. It was fine before F2P, but not after. Honestly, Valve needs to find a way to allow full retail games to be treated differently than F2P games, for whom the rule was intended.

And there's still some weird exceptions. Dirt 3 came out after the rule change, but sells its DLC solely through GFWL marketplace. So Valve isn't being entirely fair in its treatment, whether intentionally or not.

Pretty sure the disagreement with EA is catfighting over many things taking a proxy fight through this specific spat.

And not being able to get a "complete" product through Steam is a definite minus for people's comfort with buying through Steam. Like Amazon convincing people that internet buying is safe, that comfort is worth a crapload of revenue for Steam.

Thanks, now i finally have U.s. prices. Hopefully this is fixed soon though.

It's not an issue that needs "fixed" since you're required to go to a page specifying your country if you want it to show non-local prices. It will only redirect to the out of zone prices until you clear your cookies, I would imagine.

Picked up hinterland on a whim...If you like cool games no one has ever heard of then this may be perfect for you...Plus it's only 2.50.

Honestly still not sure if I'll buy anything from the current deal. Still debating Portal 2 cause it'll definitely definitely be cheaper later in either this sale or the winter sale. It's a Valve title for goodness sake.

I'm looking for a solid deal on Skyrim, Stronghold 3 (or collection), LA Noir, Fallout NV DLC (cheaper than 50%),

It's the daily deal today (yesterday). It won't be any cheaper this sale and I would guess it won't be much cheaper if cheaper at all in the winter sale. I'm going to hold off since I won't be playing it until then anyway, but if you want to play it anytime in the next 4 months, this is probably about as cheap as your going to get it. If you're lucky it might go to 7.50, but I doubt it.
Great sale. I bought Mass Effect 1 for $4.99
I´ve only heard good things about this series.
Indeed. I have yet to beat em, but I'm fairly far on Mass Effect 1 and really enjoy the story so far. Hardcore Sci-fi with a massive atmosphere. Kinda rushing it so I can jump into ME:2.
While I only have a little over 100 games, the idea of doing this category reorganization thing regularly isn't so cool. Guess I'm leaving things unsorted, too.
My categories were deleted on Thursday and then were automagically restored on Friday, so it may work itself out.

Thankfully my categories never reset. I use steam on my laptop and desktop. I didnt even know that the categories resetting was an issue. I dont have it tagged too deeply though. I just have a Indie tag and a Trash tag. Everything else I leave in the original Games title.

Yeah, ME1 was one the games that got me excited about PC gaming again. It is an awesome piece of work (Even if I haven't finished it yet, as what happens with a lot of games for me.)

Given the lack of response to my question, and the discussion about the future of EA DLC, maybe it would be best to wait on ME2. ME1 is sitting on Origin anyways. I wonder if they will have a deal at some point...
Those wanting ME beware that you won't be able to play ME 3 via Steam and you won't be able to get any of the DLC for ME 1 or ME 2.
From what I recall, you can activate your steam copy of Mass Effect 2 on Origin. That way you could buy dlcs from the origin store if you wanted to. You cant do this for ME1 though.

Bit on Orcs Must Die + dlc for $5.25. Was going to wait for a XBLA sale, but even then it would probably only drop from 1200 to 800 ms points ($10).

Same, though I never had considered the XBLA version because I knew Steam would always offer the best deal.

I also got:

- The Whispered World - $4.99 (fantastic pickup for any adventure fans out there..I believe this is the cheapest it has been on Steam by far)
- Hamilton's Great Adventures + DLC for - $2.75
- Call of Cluthu/Breath of Death VII combo - $1.00

This sale made me instantly skip all of Black Friday. Picked up:

Renegade Ops ($3.75 in a four pack)
Dungeons of Dredmor - $2.50
Binding of Isaac - $2.50
Breath of Death VII / Cthulhu bundle - $1.00
Orcs Must Die - $3.74

Seriously, that's about 100 hours of gaming right there for a little over $10. Who needs Black Friday now to get trampled for one game for $30 I could beat in 10 hours?

I finally gave up and now I just have all the games make a desktop icon. Then I sort the icons in a Games directory with sub-folders for the sorting. Works well and I can just drag and drop items to categories.

The free to play games on Steam will give you thousands of dollars easily if hours is your only measure of quality.

And, since you bought indie games, it clearly is your only measure. *Grin, duck, run*

The DLC for ME 1 and 2 work just fine with the Steam versions.

picked up ME 1 and ME 2. Just couldn't resist for $5 each. also picked up Breath of Death VII / Cthulhu bundle for $1.

I would say ZERO. Steam and EA with their DLC issues. I'd guarantee ME3 will have DLC.

I have ME1 and ME2 on steam so I pray they do. If not, I'll be registering my ME1 and ME2 steam keys on Origin (As I did with Battlefield).

You know what sucks about Origin? EA will go balls to the walls with it for a year or 2. Then they'll drop all support for it. Like they did with BF Veteran Status, EA Gun Club, EA Store. It's like they're little kids that lose interest.
Just purchase the oddboxx but I don't see it in my library nor did it ever download.

You don't have 4 Oddworld titles listed in your game list?
No, I tried logging out but I don't see nothing. I even got a email confirming my purchase.

"Oh," I said, "50% off FONV DLC? Well I've only got one pack left to buy. Surely, SURELY they won't drop it to 75% the very next day."

More fool me is a phrase I use way too often these days.

Damn you guys were right about not buying New Vegas yesterday, it's $5 today. $15 including all DLC, would have been $30 yesterday. I was gonna skip NV and focus on F3 but I think I have to grab this.

I really wanted RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3: Platinum, but 66% discount really doesn't make me pull the trigger. I'm sure I can wait until the Winter Sale for a cheaper price.

Other than that, all games don't really interest me. Worse than yesterday for me.
Damn you guys were right about not buying New Vegas yesterday, it's $5 today.
Yep! That's why you wait until the end of the sale to buy anything you want...just in case that daily deal pops up. You get the hang of it after a couple of these big sales.

Enjoy the game. I am playing it a lot lately. So much to do!

Total War Mega pack for $12.50.. I was thinking about buying it when it was $25. I definitely have to play those demos today. Seems like a steal

VVVVVV is definitely the winning purchase today. Stellar game, and at that price it's a steal. The only reason I'd hold off (aside from already owning it, of course) would be to see if it's a bonus in the HIB4, which does seem pretty likely. Still, Terry Cavanagh is such a consistently good developer that I'd be tempted to buy it anyway just to support him. Perhaps I'll pick up a couple of gift copies.
