Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

In for some new vegas dlc. Old world blues and lonesome road. Have 40 hours in new vegas and have only scratched the surface. Probably gonna pick up the couriers stash and gun runners arsenal as well, its only an extra $1.50 and seems fairly interesting.

Also as far as total war games, go that pack is a complete steal. Rome is still great if not dated (and they have some decent mods for it if your willing to go that route, though I find the base game perfectly enjoyable) the other games in the pack are great too. Though I like Rome the best (was my first total war game so I am probably biased) Still if you like the looks of the game series you can get hundreds of hours from that pack easy.

Picked up F:NV DLC, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, and the Monkey Island Bundle. Pretty content with that. Going to wait for the newer Operation Flashpoint and both Red Orchestras to get cheaper before biting.

Still a crapton of items left of my wishlist. :( But only 4 more until the big 2-0-0.
I don't remember it being $5 because I would of bought it then probably.
Morrowind GOTY from my Steam records:

Jan 2, 2010 | $4.99 | Purchase | Morrowind Game of the Year

Picked up Two Worlds II + Expansion.
Also the two (major) bits of F:NV DLC I was missing

I was good yesterday and didn't buy anything.

Have my eye on the Drakensang games at 50% off, but will wait to make sure they don't pop up as a daily, of course.

I would like Witcher 2 to hit closer to the Amazon DD price as a daily as well; we shall see.

Witcher 2's current discount is so lame it has to be a daily deal...at least that's what I'm telling myself.

VVVVVV is incredible. As someone who is prone to rage quitting and has broken several pieces of furniture and gaming peripherals it may seem like an odd choice on my part, but so much of the game is so awesome from the sound to the design, that it helps one cope with the frustration. The control is solid (almost too accurate) so when you fail it usually just means you need to adjust your movements. The early areas have frequent checkpoints and its really fun to watch yourself learn and progress through a puzzle (a bit like 100%ing something in Rock Band). Some of the puzzles are laughably hard, but even when youre screaming at the screen its hard to resist just one more attempt. On top of everything, it runs really well on low resource machines like Netbooks.

Kinda interested in Flashpoint: Red River and LA Noire. Are they worth their current prices? Those are some quick drops on new games.
I was playing La Noire on ps3 for a awhile. I was enjoying it, the game is very cinematic felt like an interactive La Confidential or some other noire film. The face tech is amazing!
Civ 5 complete edition (the "GOTY") is on Steam. It's $33 during the sale, and I've seen it for $29.99 at other DD sites (Amazon, I think?)

Please note that every version of Civ 5 is "on steam" - it's a Steamworks game, so Steam is required to play.:bouncy:

Also, this is not a game where I recommend waiting for a complete edition. the DLC offers very little more than what is in the base game. There's a few map packs, a few new civilizations/leaders (as if 18 isn't enough!), and a couple of gameplay modes that are intriguing. Similar stuff is available as free mods from the excellent mod community that is baked into the game.

I anticipate 75% off the DLC at some point during this sale or the Christmas sale. If you bought the base game for $7.50, and got all the DLC for 75% off during a sale, your total price would be less than $16. Hard to beat that.
Oh okay good to know, so confirms it's not nearly as ambitious as CIV 4 complete.
Oh okay good to know, so confirms it's not nearly as ambitious as CIV 4 complete.
Civ V was a release day buy for me and a pretty big disappointment. I'm hoping for a franchise sale so I can pick up IV again with the expansions. I'm hoping the seemingly lack of major DLC for V was them realizing they made a mistake with this iteration and trying to move on from it.
Maybe a Civ VI sooner than later?
(Civ 5....)

Oh okay good to know, so confirms it's not nearly as ambitious as CIV 4 complete.
Well I can't confirm that. I'm just a guy looking at what's been released.:)

I keep hoping for a major expansion pack of some sort... every Civ before this one had a major expansion at 1 year, and then another again at 2 years. But this time, they seem to have embraced the smaller/faster/cheaper DLC model that seems to be the new norm. It must be very successful, as so many companies are doing this. Civ 5 remains consistently in the top-10 list of current games being played stats on Steam, so it's clear that it's been a popular and successful game, despite all the detractors complaining about all the game changes.

And, as someone politely corrected me earlier in the thread, there have been a couple of releases that are not in the GOTY edition. So we will likely see yet another complete edition at some point. *sigh*

Popularity does not necessarily equal a better game. Honestly if someone was a fan of the Civ series prior to Civ 5 I'd tell them to stick with Civ 4.

But unfortunately popularity maybe a bigger motivator than better. So I'm hoping this game didn't do as well in that regard. I may have to try some of the mods tho. I've been away from Civ V so long I forgot they incorporated access into the game.

I bit on Rome: Total War and Total War: Shogun 2. Been waiting for drops on both. Still hoping for a sub $20 Dead Island here between now and Christmas.

I'm pretty much just like you. I don't rage like that but dammit, I've certainly squeezed the @!$#@% out of a couple controllers back in the day (fighting games, heh).

Definitely a recommended game by me, especially at this price. The screenshots don't really do the game justice, ironically. There's a kind of old IBM PC look to the game that's minimal yet it's a stylized minimalism that gives it clarity and charm. The music is really great, and the dialog is actually cute in a simplistic way (no hipster jargon or cultural references as far as I played).

Im hoping for Divinity 2 to go on sale too. Back when I used to pirate games, I pirated Divinity 2 and it was crackloads of fun. There were some bugs here and there, but nothing that turned me off overall. It was so convenient to be able to teleport back to base whenever u wanted. AND you can transform into a dragon and wreck buildings. God dam fun game. I only beat the main game though. If it goes on sale, I can finally play the expansion. I heard it had some bad drm though, but I dont care.
I already beat Witcher 2 100%. Great game. Hopefully Witcher 1 will go on sale for $5.

I finally bought FO:NV - Lonesome Road DLC.
Now I have all the main 4 DLC's. :)
So far, OWB is my fav. of the DLC's I've played [played first 3, so far].

I am so hoping Bastion, Rage, Skyrim, and probably a bunch of others that I can't think at this moment of wind-up as a Daily Deal.

EDIT:

Div 2: DKS Edition is MUCH better than the original Div 2: Ego Draconis Edition.

I gotta disagree. I loved Civ 5.
Surprised that they had such an awesome sale right before the winter sale
I'm not. I bought more during the Thanksgiving sale last year than I did in their big winter sale. I don't remember being too impressed with the winter sale last year. I know they had BFBC2 for like $7.50 last year but I already had it.
anyone know if the jedi knight collection will drop past $5? it's 12 now.
Ok, I gotta say it. No one here KNOWS if a game will drop lower. We can make a best guess, but we have as much information as you do. Is it a daily? No? Then wait to see if it hits.

Now, history shows that the Jedi Knight pack hit $5 in a daily last winter sale. So, it has been cheaper. You've got two sales (this one and the holiday one) over the next month-ish to see if it happens again.

Orcs must die is awesome! So happy. Like $6 bucks for it and the DLC. I was waiting for it to drop on my Xbox but who gives a flip! orcs must be slaughtered.

Yea thats the version I played. I played into the expansion for about an hour and then stopped because my hdd died. Also I didnt really like the beginning of the expansion. They throw a million quests at you all at once. I couldnt decide which one to do first. I did a few of them and they were quite entertaining. Too bad my save file is gone too. I still have my dead hdd but I have no idea how to recover anything from it. My computer wont even detect it if i plug it in as a secondary drive. wtvr, that was like a year ago.
I would love to hear more opinions on Sniper and Zero Clash.
Zeno Clash is quite fun. I bought it a long time ago and never finished it cuz I started playing other games. I love fps melee combat. I got the game because it reminded me of Condemened. That was such a great game. Too bad its not on steam. Also Zeno Clash has a pretty unique art style.

Looks like that F: NV + all DLC ends up being about $15.50. I know I picked up F3 GOTY edition during the summer sale for a little over $10, which of course was F3 + all DLC.

Anyone think it's worth waiting out F: NV for the UE that's coming up and will likely be cheaper down the road?
I would love to hear more opinions on Sniper and Zero Clash.
I enjoyed Zeno Clash. It's quite short though, maybe 4hrs. I've played through it twice. Interesting art style, crazy world, nice melee.

Of course it'll get that low, but I think it'll take quite some time.

Red Faction: Armageddon is $7.49 on Impulsedriven.com for those interested. It is a Steamworks title and I assume this is as cheap as it will get for this round of BF sales as the base price is $29.99 but Steam has the base price at $49.99. Red Faction is at 75% with the cheaper base price.

Played through this game last month and loved it. Don't go in expecting guerilla 2 and you are good. It is not oPen world but has a lot of fun weapons and nice sic fi shooter setting.

I'm in the same boat
I know I want the game and want to play it but I'm not sure how much cheaper a complete edition will run in the next year on Steam. Since I have a backlog I'd play it in drips and drabs and don't want to feel like I paid too much.

I decided to bite on F:NV + DLC.

I kind of wanted to wait for the PS3 ultimate edition since that's the console I beat Fallout 3 on and platinum-ed it so I'd kind of like to platinum F:NV on the PS3 as well. However I remember all the terrible bugs I had to deal with (I an forever banned from going back to Zeta for some reason, game always crashes) and even though I kind of want the platinum I'm really not much of a trophy whore anyway. For $16ish I feel like I've waited long enough.

I'm with you on this. I bought the game for $10 on good reviews and found them all belied based on my initial three hours...but then I discovered I could return and wreak havoc at will. And that made this a game that I'll likely play until the day I die.

Highly recommended for those who have high-stress jobs.

I imagine that a complete New Vegas pack will take at least a year from now to approach the price of just buying them all separately. As stated in the past, there is no more DLC coming out, so if you would play this game in the next year, buy it all now.

Well, after yesterday's mostly-unexciting sales, I'm sure today will be far better. It is Black Friday, after all. I would think the most awesome stuff would be today.

Just wanted to note that I stayed up until about 4am EST last night just to see what was happening on Amazon and to follow the forums. Let me say that us PC gamers have it really good with Steam. It was such madness in the Amazon thread (and at the thousands of brick and mortar stores around, I'm sure.) I'm happy to have Steam sales that aren't at all stressful!

New Vegas is essential. Well worth the $15 for all that. I got it when it first came out for 50% off last year and have spent well over 70 hours in it. Lots of great stuff to explore - plus lots of more familiar stuff for fans of the previous fallout classics (1, 2, etc).

Dont get your hopes up too much. Seems like steam deals often bang, fizzle bang. You get big start and big end but much of the middle sucks.

Oh they are stressful, but in a different way. How much did I fucking spend, dear god.

Because this is pretty much the PC gaming thread for the deals section...anyone else picking up BF3 or SC2 this weekend for $30? Steam has taught me to not spend that much on anything, so I am hesitant. What do you all think?

Bought New Vegas earlier in the year for $10 (I know stupid) and all the DLC is like $11. 75% is about as low as this DLC is probably gonna go I would think? what do you guys think should I jump?

i grabbed a copy of SCII already. stuff from blizzard just doesn't drop in price, so i'm guessing $30 is going to be as cheap as it gets for quite a while. hell, the starcraft battlechest still sells for $20 regularly and it's 13+ years old! BF3 i can hold off on... i paid
