Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Lol... So far each day the deals have been amazing...

The Dead Island deal was absolutely amazing btw. Too bad I own most of the games that have been on sale. =/

Yeah, even though I own most of the good games already, I certainly can't knock the deals. Dead Island, Orcs Must Die, ME2, Portal 2, F:NV, etc, have all been steals.. I just have them all already.

I've picked up Two Worlds II + expansion, the last two F:NV DLC I was missing. Snagged Deus Ex + DLC (from amazon since it was cheaper) as well for my steam account.

Holding out til the last day to see if Drakensang pops up as a Daily before I purchase it for $10. Would also like to see the Witcher 2 match amazon's DD price.

How does Morrowind hold up? I see there is a "Morrowind 2011 Mod" available. I recall playing it briefly, but I believe that it launched during my dark days of MMO gaming, so I didn't play it much. Enjoying the crap out of Skyrim, didn't care for Oblivion much, if anyone has any insights as to how it relates to others in the series.

Picked up Orcs Must Die + DLC and Dead Island 4 pack so far. Really happy with my purchases.

Anyone no where to get Dead Island DLC on sale?
yeah, if a few expensive-ish things i've wanted get deeply discounted to $5ish on a daily deal, i'll get them (Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout 3 complete, Metro 2033). any indie that i want that makes it down to around $5-$8 i'll bite on (waiting to see if From Dust and Cave Story+, in particular, drop a bit).

Metro 2033 is $5 on Amazon & Gamersgate right now. It's Steamworks so it will activate on (and requires) Steam

It holds up surprisingly well for its age if you go to the trouble of adding a number of different facelift elements via mods. As with any ES game, the processing of locating the mods you want, installing them and getting them to play nice can sometimes be trying. Still, it's a great game that oozes atmosphere in a way the two games that came after it don't, imho of course.

If it goes sub $10 I would say buy it without a second thought.
The sales have been good. Most of us have so much stuff, though, that we're only interested in specific things.

This.

I've only picked up Orcs Must Die/DLC so far. There are a couple games I was interested in (such as Fallout New Vegas) but I knew with the ol' backlog being the size it is, I might as well wait for the inevitable GOTY edition (or at least an edition with all the DLC included) because it'll take me that long to get around to playing Fallout 3 GOTY anyway!

Also, Back to the Future is excellent. I actually found the controls a little annoying, but my opinion improved when I switched to a 360 controller. The actual storyline/gameplay is loads of fun though... I grew up watching movies like Back to the Future so a bit of nostalgia is nice for me as well.

I'm planning on picking up Morrowind to hold me over until Skyrim drops (probably the summer) and some of the 75% off indie games like Runespell, Eschalon Books 1 and 2, Faerie Solitaire, and Delve Deeper.

I downloaded the demos of Eschalon Book 1 from Steam. After playing it for a bit and disliking the maximum screen size was 800 X 600 and other features, I downloaded Book 2 from the developer website. Wanted to know if the game made significant improvements by the second one. I found Book 2 more approachable, and it seemed a tighter experience from the first game.

I'm also considering Eschalon, but I think I may wait a bit. I would also suggest skipping Book 1. I'm not a fan of playing games in windows, and 800 X 600 is mega stretched. Turns are slower and the game feels a bit sluggish compared to it's sequel.

Just my two cents.

Thanks for the info, I read Book 2 isn't at all attached to Book 1. I may just grab 2 this time around and go back for 1 during some other sale.

Geneforge is 10
Soooo, what is everyone holding out to buy til the last day?

Considering the Christmas sale is right around the corner, I'm thinking of getting Runespell:Overture and Sims Medieval.
Hoping for a bigger discount on Torchlight and Bastion. Also would love a drop on Cave Story+ (it's the only way I'm going to buy a slightly updated version of a game I'm already familiar with), Civilization V DLC and (longshot) that Heroes of Might and Magic V bundle.
Soooo, what is everyone holding out to buy til the last day?
Pretty much just the Gundemonium Collection.
I've only picked up the gun runners collection and Deus Ex, from amazon of course.

I don't think the same has been too disappointing but I've had most of the items. Besides Renegade ops it's been all dlc for me. I have picked up games from other places that activate on steam though, so I'm not too upset. It's also been nice that Tony from Amazon has been price matching what he can. I always seem to have amazon credit so I haven't spent as much in cash as usual.

I've gone a little nuts so far. Picked up Oblivion GOTY last week (though technically not part do this sale) Dead Island, TW: Rome and Shogun 2. Also got Starcraft 2 yesterday. Think I'm done unless something ridiculous happens today or tomorrow, like a cheap Skyrim.

I dont really play those turnbased dungeon rpgs, but it looks like a genre that I would like. I love diablo-like dungeon crawlers, but i need something slower for when im on my laptop. I too was considering the Eschalon books, but I dont think those are the best choices to usher me into the genre. I have my eye on Dungeons of Dredmore. I watched a 20 minute review of it on youtube and it looks quite fun and comical. Also it has steam achieves.
does anyone think the New Vegas DLC will go back on sale around Christmas?
It's likely. It was on sale for the Summer Sale and then soon after that again for the Quakecon sale.
Soooo, what is everyone holding out to buy til the last day?
Call of Cthulhu, Psychonauts, Delvve Deeper & Cthulhu Saves the World. Might also pick up Binding of Isaac, but we'll see how the rest of the weekend goes.

Still hoping we'll see Bastion for 66% before the sale is over. I think that's really the only other thing I'm looking for these days. Thankfully, this sale has been light on my wallet, only picking up the Oddbox and the Tactical pack for Deus Ex. Was considering the Missing Link, but I've yet to start Deus Ex, and $7.50 is more than I'm willing to pay for a lot of full games, so it's hard for me to justify it for a piece of DLC.

I agree that it's excellent, but personally I much prefer the mouse controls. I had bought this on PSN when it was on sale a few months back & hated trying to use a controller to play it, so I've been waiting on a sale on the PC version ever since. The precision of a mouse is almost required for a game like this imo.

Delve Deeler and its DLC are $1.37 together. Just how low are you waiting for? :)

If you're holding out for a daily deal, I tip my hat to you. True CAG!:applause:

Right now just Chantelise. The only other things I would buy at the moment is Super Meat Boy, EYE Divine Cybermancy, Morrowind, or Bastion and that is only if they hit under $5 as a daily.
Anyway have any thoughts on Call of Cthulhu? I saw some people talking about it and it does look interesting.
I played it on Xbox when it came out and it's one of the better Horror games I've played. It kind of runs out of steam in the second half, but I think it's definitely worth playing. This was probably 6ish years ago though, so I'm not sure how well it holds up. I'm considering picking it up on Steam.
Anyway have any thoughts on Call of Cthulhu? I saw some people talking about it and it does look interesting.
I've put about three hours or so into it a couple years ago, and it was definitely interesting. It's from Bethesda, but don't expect an Elder Scrolls game. Regardless, it's a game dealing with the Cthulhu mythos. It's definitely worth $5 alone, but, I would like to see it drop again (cheap guy here.)

other than that, i'm doing what i usually do, which is wait until something i have on the 360/PS3 that i either never finished or never played at all makes it to the $5 range, and then i bite. so, i've actually purchased quite a bit this sale so far -- both mass effects, plus fallout: new vegas. and a smattering of indies.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but Metro 2033 is $4.99 @ Amazon and Gamersgate right now and it's a Steamworks title, so there ya go.

I'd like to get Morrowind at some point and it's $10 right now during this sale. I checked its price history on Steamgamesales was $5 but that was back in the 2010 summer sale. Should I wait or just get it now?

Unless you're on your deathbed, and your last wish is to play Morrowind... always always always wait. There is no logical reason not to, aside from the aforementioned.

And kinda disappointing. Might get Limbo, and maybe some Civ 5 DLC, but if today is the last day for new deals then they ended on a whimper for me.
Anyone have PayDay the Heist? The game looked cool when they were promoting it but I have yet to year anything concrete about it.
I got it on PSN, it's pretty much L4D without zombies or counter strike with out planting bombs and such. It's not a bad game, but I feel like it would play better on a mouse and keyboard.

I'd like to say I really enjoyed Splinter Cell Conviction, and it is one of the only recent games that I've played all the way through. Kept me busy for 13 hours. The multiplayer is good for laughs, but it's not as epic as the spy vs. merc modes from the earlier games.
