Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Its also worth knowing that Witcher 2 is mod friendly. The official forum for Witcher 2 has many mods that tweak the game to your liking. On my first playthrough, I just used one mod that made the inventory more organized, and one mod that made all items weightless. I hate having to worry about being overweight.

I see Psychonauts is on sale for $5 during this sale. Tempted to get that but I'm sure if I do it'll go on sale for like $2 the next day.

Psychonauts is 50% off. 50% off is pretty good, especially if it's something you think you want to play soon. Otherwise, you can probably count on it be at least 50% off again during the Christmas sale.

I loved the Witcher 2 and it is truly the most graphically amazing game I have played this year. Granted I have not played Deus Ex or Battlefield 3, but as for RPGs? The best. A more directed, linear event than the last title, but much more appreciated. The set pieces are more grand, but the beginning is probably the weakest and most frustrating.

Pro Tip for Newbs (Ish Spoiler):
DO NOT choose the portion of the opener where you fight the dragon as the first bit. You will regret it dearly. Dragon in Skyrim? Epic battle. Dragon in Witcher 2? OH GOD IT BURNS WHY DID I DO THAT?!

Either way, buy this game* for fantasy's Mass Effect style series with true grays in choice and not "save the kitten in the burning tree or chop it down and piss on the ashes" style of choice present in other titles.

*Disclosure: This review and endorsement comes from someone who longed for this game since the first one ended and pre-ordered the massive $120 edition..

On a random note, I'm surprised Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines isn't discounted at all during this sale. It's been discounted several times recently. I already have it, but just saying.

That game is super rare to go on sale.
Tempted with the Witcher II, but I hesitate to add to my RPG backorder when I know I will bite on Skyrim if it goes on sale at year's end.

What do my co-CAGgers think of Witcher II?
Witcher II is one of my three favorite RPG games this year, next to Dark Souls and Skryim. The story is good and has you make some difficult decisions that are not just here is the good option and here is the evil option.

I played Two Worlds II, Dragon Age II. Thought DA II was a Mass Effect 2 ripoff except with rpg combat, and Two Worlds II was like a $10 type of game.

This CAG here? Impeccable taste. :applause:

on my 2nd playthrough of witcher 2, i decided to make all the bad decisions. I forgot what situation it was, but one of the decisions resulted in a cutscene of me being killed with arrows. OH, i remember. I killed some random guard outside and when i went in the town, the guards were asking me to pay a fine. I didnt realize that thats just something you have to do if you assault a guard. I thought it was just part of the story.
Also, I was playing on Expert mode, so I regretted that death a lot.

I'm convinced on Splinter Cell now. I think I'll spring for Conviction for sure, but debating on whether to get the whole pack just for the hell of adding the older Splinter Cells to the collection. Choices...

I was soo in for Limbo, but reading some comments here, I think I might wait for a potential indie bundle. >_> more choices

I'll chime in on Kane and Lynch. I just finished both of these titles the past week or so. I enjoyed them and the story, even if everything goes to shit. I left the shaky camera on throughout the entirety of the 2nd game, since I had no problems with it. It did add to the experience. Definitely rough around the edges, with incessant shootouts towards the end of both games.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to K&L3 when it goes on sale :) For $3.74 each, I would recommend it if you can enjoy B grade games. Not for everyone though.

I know it's been asked before with the old gift system but does anyone know if you buy a bundle and attach it to the new trading system if it shows up as one item or separated?

For what it's worth I loved Limbo but it's more of an experience than a game.
That game is super rare to go on sale.
That was true of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines until a few months ago. It was never on sale, then it went down to $13 or something in that area and then $5 once or twice since. It's like it had never occurred to the rights holder to discount it and they realized after that first time that it'd actually make them some money.
I know it's been asked before with the old gift system but does anyone know if you buy a bundle and attach it to the new trading system if it shows up as one item or separated?
How can you buy a bundle and attach it to the new trading system?
For what it's worth I loved Limbo but it's more of an experience than a game.
Well, I definitely want the game for sure. I'm not really deterred about how crappy some people think it is. It's just that there might be a good bundle later >_>;;;

When your purchase select gift and then it's one of the options.

ended up biting on kane and lynch, and hopped in a payday heist bundle as well as a renegade ops bundle. Damn you steam, my backlog is already huge enough lol.
When your purchase select gift and then it's one of the options.
Oh, right. For some reason my mind leaped to something else, like attaching the Humble Bundle codes to the trading system. Derp.

For those that have Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012, the new deck pack that has that new soldier and the new zombie deck is on sale for $2.00 versus $2.99.

It's weird, because when I checked the first day of the autumn sale, it wasn't marked down at all. The content just came out the 16th.

Gah, so torn on all the actual expansion packs for Civ V. I haven't played that game that much lately, but I'm kind of a sucker for getting all the DLC like that - mostly, I think, I want Denmark, but once I buy one, it's like, why not just pick up all of them?

*sigh* Stupid steam sales.

The content packs are nice. The map packs, I wouldn't bother. Most are only one map and only worth buying if you play a lot of multiplayer. Otherwise, I'd stick to only the civ expansions. I own all of the Civ 5 expansions and I enjoyed the new content that Korea, Denmark, Spain, Polynesia etc... added. Each one provided about 15 hours of play time for me. Some even more than that. I picked mine up during a steam sale as well, during the summer, and it was worth it. Seeing as you can get all the Civ DLC right now for under $10... I'd bite, if you are a routine Civ player.

Today was a bit better. I at least picked up two games instead of the one game I have picked up the other days. The demo for Limbo didn't do much for me, but for $2.50, you can't go wrong! Also bought The Witcher: Enhanced Edition since I heard so many good things about The Witcher 2. Don't really know anything about the games. But the game is 15 GB! wtf?! That's a whole lot of content.

I'm actually liking Limbo a lot more than I thought I would. Not only is it artistically interesting the puzzle platforming's really good too.

You also get the soundtrack, making of videos, a game guide and a map. All for $2.50. That is one hell of an incredible steal if you ask me.

I love the witcher games, not just because they are really good rpg games but the developers make sure you get free bonuses for buying the standard game.

It is funny, but the games I'm most interested in are the ones not being talked about much in this thread. After installing the Worms! theme on my PS3, my son has some interest in the game. Thing is, I think the price is a little more than my desire for it.

The other one is Overlord, which I remember being on sale last year and passing on. I think it might be cheaper this year, but still don't know if it is enough to pull the trigger on it.

I'm hoping for a game of the year edition of dragon age 2 so it can appear on steam. I seem to be one of the few people who actually enjoyed the second game. Not as good as the first, but I loved the writing.

I played Overlord II. While not being a AAA game, I had fun with it. I bought the first Overlord in the Halloween sale for the same price. Haven't gotten around to it yet though, but definitely check it out if you're intereseted.

Yeah, the content packs are what I meant when I said "actual expansion packs." I probably should have clarified better. I'm actually kinda tempted by the explorer's pack, just because I can get it for < $1 bundled with the Denmark pack, and the randomly generated theme maps sound kinda cool.

It's really a question of whether or not I'll ever get around to playing the DLC, and given that I don't play Civ V very often... well, I'm probably better off waiting, than dropping $10 on DLC I'm not likely to play much of. I still have a lot of the regular Civ leaders that I haven't even tried.

Do you all think Kane and Lynch 1 is worth the $3.50?

I have heard it's sort of alright, a weird spawn of Freedom Fighters with a few memorable moments and some concepts that are cool but not executed so well....but I'm still not sure...

I picked up Civ V GoY. After seeing Amazon have The Witcher 2 for $16 I figured steam would at least match it if not beat it. A bit dissappointed that they didn't, but since I haven't played the first yet, there's no rush for me. Hopefully next time it goes on sale it will be closer to a buy it now price.

Wish they had some nice way for people who purchased the game early when it first came out to get the game of the year version with all its DLC w/o shelling out all that much money. I think this Civ V GOTY edition has all but two things in it.

I have six games in my cart holding off until the next daily to see if they are on it before making my purchase. Most are already 50% off so I am good either way.
Late to this because of various reasons, and sad I missed Sam and Max complete again. Hopefully it comes back around during the winter sale.
Sam and Max goes on sale all the time. It'll be back.

Even I want the second season of Sam and Max episodes, but with my backlog of adventure games and the frequency it goes on sale, I feel no rush to buy it.

I thought the point of season passes was for people who wanted all the dlc to pay less? Granted you still pay more than waiting for the game of the year edition.

As for Sam & Max, I'm hoping for a telltale collection during the winter sale to get it.

You get a $5 credit towards a future digital download with the Amazon purchase. Only thing is it doesnt register on Steam. I might bite for that.

Make sure you guys don't miss it but The Witcher 1 - Enhanced Director's Cut Edition is also on sale, though it's overshadowed by The Witcher 2 on the Steam Autumn Sale page being $16, and people automatically ignore it and overlook the "franchise sale" part.

That said, The Witcher 1 is at $2.50 - a ridiculously CRAZY good deal.

Oh and a quick review of The Polynomial. The game isn't that good, it's fun for 5 minutes or so. Now with that said, the soundtrack is located in the game folder and the game has a fucking awesome soundtrack (it's in .ogg format so conversion might be needed). So for $2.50 you are basically getting a cool soundtrack.
And here's the link. $18 for a Steam copy sounds good to me, for those interested.

I can vouch for him, JakeNome is a great CAG trader, I bought Witcher 2 off of him and registered it without problem on Steam. $18 is definitely better than the Steam price, being that you're getting the exact same game on the same "platform". ;)

Well for $2.50 Limbo sure was 3-3.5 hours worth of fun. Limbo for me was a lot more enjoyable then Braid and some parts made me nostalgic for Ico.

Last 2-3 chapters were a pain in the rear and were definitely the game's weakest moments. But getting to play through the first 2 hours of the game definitely made the purchase worthwhile.

So far I'm doing very well on not adding to my backlog from this Steam sale. Within the sale I've purchased and finished, Renegade Ops, The Missing Link, and Limbo. Orcs Must Die is next on the pecking order but I'll play that on and off.

I thought the only copies of Witcher 2 that registered on steam were Russian. It should still register but if you are adverse to such things buyer beware.

After a long conversation with my husband yesterday about controls in PC gaming, I'm giving this PC gaming thing a try. You know. Playing a game that controls with the KBM. Started Vampire The Masquerade this morning. And you know what? Shit's cool. :D

Limbo is one of those games that started with an excellent premise and then deteriorated by the end, sort of becoming a padded affair. The whole bit with the spider and the other humans was really cool, but after that, dealing mostly with timed activities, moving platforms, and so on - meh.

I still recommend the game. Delightfully atmospheric and creative. It just feels like it was more early on than later.

In serious, though, you can hook up either a wired or wireless 360 gamepad to your PC and you can play a lot of your console favorites with high fidelity, smoother frame rates, and even mods! I still have my PS3 for the awesome/weird Japanese/Sony titles. Game on everywhere!

Thinking about Dungeon Defenders today, guys. Is it worth the base entry point or do I need all that DLC?

A large reason that I'm finally trying to be a proper KBM PC gamer (with games that don't support a controller natively) is that I'm annoyed with missing deals on games that I think I would like, just because the game doesn't support a controller.

For example, I wish I'd gotten Zeno Clash the other day. But because it's KBM, I was afraid to try it. I think the game looks really cool and that I might enjoy it, but because I'm not comfortable with KBM, I avoided it.

Agreed - TW1 is EASILY worth $2.50. It's a NO-BRAINER, if you ask me.

TW2 is EASILY worth the $16 Amazon DL service had it for or the $25 Steam has it for.
