Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I think I'll skip Shogun 2 for now. Picked up L4D2 in the morning. So far the multiplayer community hasn't been nice at all.
Does anyone think the odds are fairly good that Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit will pop up again for $9.99 or less during the Winter Sale or whatever is next before the year is out?
It will for sure pop up for that price again. EA is fairly consequent on Steam sales like this. Plus it has been cheaper ($7.50) I think once this year during a sale, though I could be wrong, I do know it has been at least $10 once this year though.

Thanks. Steamgamesales.com says $9.99 is the lowest its ever been. I'll hold off on buying it for now then on the chance it'll pop up for the same price or cheaper during a near-future sale.
Why aren't the Epic Games items listed in the front page of steampowered.com? I almost missed them!

Edit: I guess it is if you scroll through the specials 10 at a time, but I meant at the top or list Epic as a publisher.
Scroll down to the bottom of the front page and you'll see links to specific publishers. You'll find Epic Games right there.

There are quite a few trolls and snobs out there. Most importantly, try to play with friends. If you need to make friends, try joining a community Steam group, like the CAG L4D group. Try to play single player first, to learn the maps, before you jump into versus.
Is there any way to test a code for a Steam game to make sure it still works - but not activate it on your account?
It works. ;)

Mass Effect $4.99
Fallout NV: Lonesome Road $2.49
Fallout NV: Gun Runners Arsenal $0.99
Dead Space 2 $4.99
Unreal Deal $9.99

Total: $23.45

Not too shabby. Although, I probably won't get to the Non-Fallout stuff until next year, haha.
Why do I see people talking about Dead Space 2 being $5, while I see it for $14.99? I assume it's a region thing?
It's $5 in the US. I'd be happy to help you out if you're trying to get it for that price.

this. i've found plenty of decent people while playing co-op, but every time i've tried playing versus it's doucheville.

My purchases:

Renegade Ops: 7.49
Orcs Must Die + DLC: 5.35
Duke Nukem Forever: 6.79
LA Noire: 18.99
Sanctum DLC: 1.96
Limbo: 2.49
Splinter Cell: 2.49
Splinter Cell Double Agent: 2.49
Puzzler World 2: 2.49
Demolition Inc: 2.49
Faerie Solitaire: 1.00

Total: 54.03

I didn't think I'd spend that much, but these 2.49 games add up, don't they? Good thing I didn't get Deus Ex HR, I have plenty in my hands right now until the Xmas Sale. Too bad I couldn't resist LA Noire.
With all of the newcomers to Steam that cropped up this sale, I took the liberty of expanding my earlier post of tips on Steam sales and posted it in a blog. I'll keep the link in my sig for anyone who may need it.

If anyone thinks I should add anything, let me know.
Maybe a note about EA since they are kind of a special case. 50% for their games on Steam is probably about as good as you will get in many cases and they rarely do daily deals. If you are willing to go through Origin you may get cheaper but I assume many are like myself and won't want to do that.

Where was LA Noire for that price? I thought steam was $25. I know amazonnhad a glitch for it for $10 for a while though.

This really isn't true. I've seen a lot of 75% off EA sales.

Total this sale- 23.53

This is the most Ive spent on any Steam sale because of Dead Island. DI was also my biggest single purchase through steam. Im still thinking about Puzzler World, Greed Corp, and Demolition Inc

It was 50% off on the 2nd day of the sales, and it's US$ 37.99 full price here in Brazil.

Final haul:

Dead Space 2 $4.99
Delve Deeper + DLC $1.37
Fallout NV DLC $3.97
Hamilton's Great Adventure + DLC $2.73
Orcs Must Die + DLC: $5.35
Runespell Overture $2.50
Shadow Harvest: Phantom Ops $3.99
Sniper Ghost Warrior DLC $0.99
Wasteland Angel $2.50

Total $28.39

Good stuff.

Guess I'll throw in as well:

Oddboxx - $3.74
Deus Ex - Tactical DLC - $1.49
Civ V DLC (All Leaders + Wonders + Explorer) - $10.97
Call of Cthulhu - $4.99
Psychonauts - $4.99
Delve Deeper - $1.24
Cthulhu Saves the World - $1.00

Total: $28.42

Kinda ashamed that a large part of that is just DLC. Not even sure if I'll ever get that much use out of it, but I figure, what the heck, it's not likely to get much cheaper. Wasn't willing to bite on the Missing Link though, need that to be $5 or less, I think.

And it looks like this is the sale that got me to break $300 spent (total) on Steam Games. 124 games for that price though, even if a bunch of them are crap picked up in bundles, or games that I'll likely never get around to playing.
It's $5 in the US. I'd be happy to help you out if you're trying to get it for that price.
Really appreciate the kindness but I ended up buying Thief so I hit my budget, gonna have to wait for the Xmas sale, should hit $5ish there too.
It works. ;)
Heh, I'm glad to hear the code I traded you worked. I was just curious if there was a system like Xbox has to test codes I receive. Occasionally I get a code from a contest or trade, and it'd be nice to verify it's good without activating it.

So here's my sad story.

I got Faerie Solitaire yesterday. I had already played it on my computer, but logged into my husband's account. I bought it for my account for $1, looking forward to playing through it again and unlocking all the content.

I totally forgot that Steam doesn't remove all the data when you click to uninstall a game. Not long after I booted up Faerie Solitaire, it registered that I had already gotten all the achievements and beaten the game.

Maybe next time I'll remember to remove all the data from my computer... Although, now that I think about it, I'm not sure how. I was pretty sure it removed the game folder from the Steam directory...

I don't think you can remove achievements. They're tied to your account, and it has nothing to do with what's installed or not.

Also, Fairy Solitaire might use the Cloud Saving feature? It might be re-downloading your old completed save. You can turn that off, if that's what's happening.

The point was that I had played the game on my husband's account, but logged into my computer. When I got the game for my account, it registered all the achievements I had earned on my husband's account, because I was playing it on my computer.

The game doesn't use the Cloud. The data was just still on my computer.

Like when you uninstall and reinstall a game. There's still data on your computer that remembers your game progress.

was it because you used the same profile for the game?
was it because you used the same profile for the game?
No, first time I played the game was on my husband's account, as he owns it.

Played again yesterday on my own account with my new copy of Faerie Solitiare, but it automatically awarded all achievements and remembers my progress.

Not too big a deal. Good thing it was only $1. I'm just replaying the campaign now and going for a complete pet collection. That should take a while, anyway. Probably at least another campaign play-through, considering it's completely random when pets are awarded.

There's a program out there that will allow you to... modify the steam achievements. I used it when I ended up with a bunch of achievements I didn't earn on Super Meat Boy. Managed to reset them all. I don't remember what the program is, but I know someone around here has to.

I'll see if I can't figure out what it was.

Edit: Ah yes, the Steam Achievement Editor. http://gib.me/sam/ Might be worth checking out - just be careful, it's technically against steams TOS, but I think they're more worried about high profile games and frequent users than those of us who use it in cases like these.

I've considered something like this in the past, but I'd be too worried about Steam closing my account.
Is Steam doing anything for Cyber Monday or are we just back to dailies?
Personally, I think the sale is over and we're back to dailies. There's been nothing official, I don't think.

We can always hope for a Cyber Monday sale.

Regardless, we'll know in 25 minutes. :D

the in-game profile. you started the game from your steam account with the profile you used under your husbands steam account. different steam accounts accessing the same faerie solitaire profile.

Would have been nice for a cyber monday sale, but I never really expected it. Oh well, time to save money for the winter sale.

Guess I should have gotten Skyrim from Direct2Drive when they had the 20% off coupon, never found a better deal. It's right around the same price at Gamesplanet, will probably get it there.

If you use that newegg/google offer of $20 for $40 credit you can get skyrim for $40. Theres a thread in the deals forum
