Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I don't want to disappoint anyone but in the past they didn't run midweek/weekend deals after big sales. Dailies are a newer thing but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have one of those either.
If you use that newegg/google offer of $20 for $40 credit you can get skyrim for $40. Theres a thread in the deals forum
I'll look into this, thanks. I could stand to wait til Xmas if I had to, I'd rather not though.

Oops that deal has expired.
I'm just replaying the campaign now and going for a complete pet collection. That should take a while, anyway.
After 34 hours of play time with Faerie Solitaire, I have yet to find the final two pets. They're completely random. Good luck!
After 34 hours of play time with Faerie Solitaire, I have yet to find the final two pets. They're completely random. Good luck!
I believe I had put 24+ hours into the profile of my previous game file, so it'll be interesting to see how much more time I need to find the final pets.

It's a good game to play periodically, so I'm determined to eventually find them all and get those last two achievements. :D
So here's my sad story.

I got Faerie Solitaire yesterday. I had already played it on my computer, but logged into my husband's account. I bought it for my account for $1, looking forward to playing through it again and unlocking all the content.

I totally forgot that Steam doesn't remove all the data when you click to uninstall a game. Not long after I booted up Faerie Solitaire, it registered that I had already gotten all the achievements and beaten the game.

Maybe next time I'll remember to remove all the data from my computer... Although, now that I think about it, I'm not sure how. I was pretty sure it removed the game folder from the Steam directory...
Did you figure this out from the others' suggestions? I don't have this game but I've experienced what you're describing in other games, especially casual games.

If the game doesn't allow multiple profiles (in-game), then you will find the saved game data here:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Faerie Solitaire

If you want to remove saves from your computer, then uninstall the game, then delete that folder. ("Application Data" is a hidden folder, but you can type it in the address bar, or show hidden folders).

Achievements of obviously will not be deleted, as they're in the cloud.

You could also log into your computer using a different local account.

And - I agree with your assessment about achievement editors. It might be fun to try out if you have just a couple of games. But no self-respecting CAGer has just one game; we have dozens, if not hundreds. Risking a Steam ban for editing achievements? No way. Even if my games only cost about $4 on average!
Scroll down to the bottom of the front page and you'll see links to specific publishers. You'll find Epic Games right there.
Right, I know where the total list of publishers is. My point was Epic Games wasn't under the list of publishers on sale near the top (it had the logos of companies, maybe 10 or so). At first, I thought that was a complete list, but it wasn't!
Might just be cause I've been seeing sales a lot on steam the past couple of days, but the daily deal seems kinda pricey XD .
I know!

Jeez Valve, I'm not a gazillionaire ya know! :booty:

Luckily, I don't see this becoming an issue. Although my husband and I will sometimes log into each other's accounts, this is the only game I've ever bought for my own account that he has on his.

And agreed, no way I'm risking my Steam account over a $1 game and it's achievements.

You won't get banned with Steam Achievement Manager. ;) Even if they would ban you for editing achievements, they certainly wouldn't punish you for "starting over" (re-locking achievements).
Strange that they didn't just extend the sale by one day to cover Cyber Monday.
I was thinking about the same thing. Thought they would. LAME

75% off SH: Homecoming is a pretty decent deal, if you are interested in the game itself. If you are just wanting to buy something just because it is cheap, then yea, $10 is a bit much coming off a sale.
Dear Steam,
Bring the real Silent Hill games (1-4), and we'll talk.
Agreed, even though only the last three were released on PC.

I do love my Silent Hill, but maybe for $5 I could recommend it, but definitely not $10. Although, I think a lot of gamers would prefer the overhaul of the recent Silent Hill games as opposed to the original games (kind of like how people love the newer Resident Evil games but hate 0 through Code Veronica.)

Note that last year they had a contest / sale (the Treasure Hunt) that connected the Thanksgiving and Christmas sales. No idea if they'll do it (or something similar) again, but there's a chance!

I think it started on December 6 last year, so there was a little lull but then constant sales from then till the end of the Holiday sale.

First Steam sale in a while in which I've bought nothing. Hope the winter sale has some better deals on the games I've been holding out on.

In case anybody really really really (that's three reallys) wants the Silent Hill daily deal, it's significantly cheaper in the UK/EU.

£4.49 if anybody wants it, happy to help with regional pricing.
I'm finding it difficult to decide what to play- too many options.
Lol, I kinda felt like that yesterday. "Great, even more games in my backlog."

I like to alternate with whatever I want to play the most and then what's probably among the oldest games in my backlog.

But I also game on 360 and DS, so I have a variety to choose from.

I am realizing there isn't many retail games I want so this next Steam sale will hopefully be lots of cool indie titles for me. Which means a bunch of cheap games.

Or at least I hope

It's ridiculous. Steam alone is too much, then there is the 360 and PS3 and an iPad. I haven't really touched my 360 or PS3 since traveling down the rabbit hole that is Steam.

I try to pick a certain genre of game I want to play, then it takes me forever to decide between the games in that genre to play.

I have less than a 100 games. I have no idea how people with over 400 ever decide which game to play.

Easy. Skyrim.

yeah I wanted to try out a lot of games in the sub $10 range, decided against getting anything though. the holiday sale will have it all again and more, and i already have games to play.

I've actually found that the best Steam "game" is looking through your library and deciding what to play; by the time you find something, you won't want to play it.

+1. Although I'm thinking about trying to approach my game list chronologically by release date now, so I am not trying to play 10 year old games on a modern system and wondering why it keeps crashing.

Sometimes I have to play similar genre games chronologically too, if only so I don't say "WTH is this sh*t?!!" at some of the true classics that haven't stood up so well to time.

I think I've seen a website or app that handles that decision for you, randomly. Can't quite recall but someone else here might know wtf I'm talking about.

I decide like this... "I will play that game and then I will eventually play that other game". In the end I will end up "hopefully" playing all the games in my collection so in my eyes it doesn't matter which one I do play first.

So itchy need fix....so itchy need fix.

Seriously hopefully the winter sale starts soon! Even if I have reduced my spending from $150 to $15 for most of these sales I still love the exciting of checking each day!

Just wanted to thank UtopianMachine for the nice Steam game gift!

Also, sorry I couldn't update the OP every day during this sale. I've been extremely sick since Thanksgiving and I'm still not better, argh. Will hopefully be able to play a more active role in the holiday sale.

But you know, the OP is a Wiki and I really don't mind people putting lists of sale games in there. Several people used to type up lists like that in the old holiday sale threads before we even had Wiki posts.
Is this what you were referring to?

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/07/15/dont-know-what-to-play-add-an-im-feeling-lucky-button-to-steam/

I added it as a non-Steam game to my Library so that I could just double-click it to run it. Slot Machine Gaming, baby! :D
That's the one I have. I've never actually used it, but it's there at the top of my list. Since I only tend to keep a handful of my games installed on a given computer at any time, I tend to be better off making an actual decision.

You and I are the same then. It's a neat little program but I wish it was smart enough to know that I only wanted to spin the wheel for games I have installed. Still, neat proggy (I barely remember how to program in Apple BASIC from 1983, heh).

Can't believe I didn't buy anything off Steam during the sales. Last year I spent a ton during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

I think the PC Gamer was the one I saw before but the roulette one is cool too. They both should be added to the OP. :D
