Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Now, only if it could factor in and add weight to metacritic scores, release date, steam works, mood, setting, price paid(as the better deal you got the more enjoyment you obviously get), and if you have already played/beat it. Basically, I want an overall rating of how likely I am to enjoy the game. I can send a blood sample to the dev if needed :). We can't expect everything but we can ask ;)

I second that, mate :)
+1. Although I'm thinking about trying to approach my game list chronologically by release date now, so I am not trying to play 10 year old games on a modern system and wondering why it keeps crashing.
I'm doing this. I last finished The Witcher, and I'm in the middle of GTA IV now, which I bought during the last Christmas sale. Here's the rest of my backlog. I like the way it hops around between genres.

2008 04 29 GTA IV
2008 09 05 STALKER: Clear Sky
2008 10 28 Fallout 3 GOTY
2009 06 22 Ben There, Dan That
2009 06 22 Time Gentlemen, Please!
2009 07 15 Secret of Monkey Island
2009 09 15 Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY
2010 01 26 Mass Effect 2
2010 02 02 STALKER: Call of Pripyat
2010 02 09 Bioshock 2
2010 02 17 The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom
2010 03 16 Metro 2033
2010 09 10 Recettear
2010 09 11 Nehrim: At Fate's Edge (a total conversion mod for Oblivion)
2010 10 19 Fallout: New vegas
2010 10 29 Winter Voices
2011 02 28 Fate of the World
2011 03 01 NightSky
2011 04 08 Anomaly: Warzone Earth
2011 05 06 Fortix 2
Limbo
Trauma

Often, between games, I "reach ahead" and play a smaller indie game to clense my palate. I can tell I'm going to have to do that between Clear Sky and Fallout 3.

Also, I frequently break up GOTYs and play the expansions/DLC later in the list (where they would appear chronologically). Because after playing through a whole game, I usually want a break from it. Especially RPGs because they're so long.

Another plus of doing this is that you don't need to upgrade your hardware until waaay later. my ATI 4850 should last me on max settings up 'til Metro 2033! When I'm ready for an ATI 6870, it'll cost me $89-99.

(Yes, I had that list prepared already. I didn't just do the research for CAG, geez.);)

I've tried several times to sort and form some type of attack plan for my backlog and always quit about half-way through...realizing exactly why it's so damn massive when I can't even make a fucking list to tackle it :p
I'd like to think this is a failure on their end.
Doesn't take much reading between the lines, if you see the dev team's remarks about the whole affair. Lots of "personal problems" and "its complicated"... They ran out of money, but it looks like the team had a lot of issues, as well. This is why I don't buy episodic content, usually - you get invested in it, not knowing if it will ever be finished.

damn something I was debating picking up when it was finished. had picked up the Summer Sale Prize - Winter Voices DLC.

broken sword triple pack, and cthulhu saves the world pack for me.
all of 3.49.

I was referring to an unfortunate fact that even for a man who checks new indie games daily the game was unheard of.

I had heard of it. I think it was one of the games you could get free DLC for during the last sale. I think there also might have been a deal on it previously.

I just noticed that Silent Hill Homecoming is $9.99 as a Daily Deal. Personally, I would only purchase the game for $5 or less, since I happen to be one of those picky Silent Hill fans.

I played the Team Silent games, which means I did, in fact, muscle through The Room and all its design flaws. Still, I'd be willing to give Double Helix Games' take on the series a try if it were just a bit cheaper. Having all that been said, did anyone enjoy the game? Was it a decent entry in a now-farmed-out series?

Man, I'm so snobby about my game prices.
:whistle2:( Wow that sucks... The game is broken, and now it might never get fixed... Huge bummer...
I'm disappointed about Winter Voices. It looks like you can buy the game from the developer website, but it costs more than I'm interested in.

Winter Voices is a turn-based RPG, but the game has a lot of issues. There's a lot of strange voice-over dialogue throughout the game, and the storyline doesn't make a ton of sense, nor does a lot of the dialogue make sense.

It's an experience and very unique, but it's really hard to recommend. I've played the first episode and bought the second one, but now it looks like I won't get anymore.

Sounds like your mourning the loss of a bad game.

Lol, I guess I did sort of say it like that.

I liked Winter Voices, but like I said, it's tough to recommend. It's a bit too vague storyline/dialogue-wise for it's own good. The concept, however, is really creative, and I was looking forward to playing more episodes.

really big bundle live, and boo wasted a dollar,on something i figured I wouldn't feel bad paying full price for, all of $3

Really Big Sky
Runespell: Overture
Cthulhu Saves the World
Eufloria
bonus: Breath of Death VII

Those games are definitely worth the asking price. It is just unfortunate as most of the community who was interested already have Cthulhu and BoD VII. I also had Eufloria from one of the Indie bundles on steam.

I wish they would try one last effort and make a pay what you want bundle of the games. I think they would be surprised by the turn out.

The problem for me was the episodic release. I want to be able to play an entire game when I purchase it, so they never got any of my money. I imagine that strategy hurt them quite a bit, though it sounds like they had other issues as well. I waited for back to the future to be complete, and that's for a licensed game by a well established studio. I can't imagine that working for a small developer on a niche game.

Guess I'm not getting the Indie Royale bundle, and I'm sure a lot of you are in the same boat. Didn't we all just buy Runespell: Overture and Breath of Death/Cthulhu the other day? I'm kinda interested in Eufloria, but the low reviews scare me away.

I must've been the only one to skip buying indie titles in the steam sale with the hope that they'd be added in one of the upcoming Indie Royale or Humble Bundles. Worked in my favor.

Nope. Nowadays the only games that I buy are ones that I'm going to start playing immediately, are in bundles, or something that I've wanted for awhile and will get to soonish, but only if they're dirt cheap. All that I bought in the autumn sale was Faerie Solitaire and that was yesterday at the airport before I got on a plane. Also, that game is great.

Midweek Madness:

Sniper Ghost Warrior Gold Edition $10.19 66% off includes both DLC
DLC $1.01-$1.69 each 66% off

They shouldn't have picked a game that was a daily deal for the Autumn sale a few days ago that was half this price........

Nice! One I was on the fence on buying during the autumn sale. Glad I held off

I'm a bit annoyed at Runespell being in the new bundle since I ended up playing Sequence instead this weekend, but at least I can off my key.
Oh, and Dungeons of Dredmor is now in the Humble Introversion Bundle.
For the first time I may be tempted to buy that bundle now.

Nooo

Oh well free gift for friends!

Yeah, very glad I didn't pre-order. I picked up BoD/CStW earlier, and the only other game that interests me is Runespell, but not enough to pay the $2.50 earlier, much less the $3.XX it'd be going for now.

So far the Indie Royal bundles haven't seemed nearly as high quality as the regular Humble Bundles. Between that, and no charity options, I don't think they'll be getting any of my money at all.
Daily Deal

Blood Bowl Legendary Edition $8 80% off

Good game
Huh. I'm tempted to continue to wait on this until it hits 5 or so, just as the reviews were never very good for it, but I've had my eye on it for quite a while. I think I might need to go actually do work for the rest of the day and not be near the computer so I don't accidentally buy it. Accidentally.

Take into account that many of the reviews are soiled because the developer abandoned the original Blood Bowl for the Legendary edition. Its not a mark against the game but they provided no upgrade path for existing customers for what was essentially an expansion pack.

Argh, but the Steam key is tied to Aquaria and Crayon Physics Deluxe, two games I already own on Steam. It says specifically that I won't get a gift code for the duplicates when I register the code. Bummer; I would have loved to gift the extras. Oh well, firstworldproblems, etc. ;)

EDIT: Thanks to louiedog for the clarification on the Steam code. If you paid more than the average the DoD code is the same as the CPD/Aquaria code. If you paid less then you receive a standalone key.

Guess I'll just buy Dungeons of Dredmore during the Christmas sale like I planned.

Dungeons of Dredmore has its own Steam key for me on the Humble page. I had to click to generate the key for it alone since I already redeemed the Steam key for the bundle when it went live.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not sure why they had to tie it to the first two but hey, free is free (or bonus is bonus).
I must've been the only one to skip buying indie titles in the steam sale with the hope that they'd be added in one of the upcoming Indie Royale or Humble Bundles. Worked in my favor.
It's always in the back of my mind now. Thanks to that, I saved $5 by not buying Runespell and Dungeons of Dredmoor and instead getting them for free from the bundles.
Argh, but the Steam key is tied to Aquaria and Crayon Physics Deluxe, two games I already own on Steam. It says specifically that I won't get a gift code for the duplicates when I register the code. Bummer; I would have loved to gift the extras. Oh well, firstworldproblems, etc. ;)
I have the exact same issue. Oh well.

Good thing I already got DoD for $2.50 from the thanksgiving sale. I AM glad for the IndieRoyale Bundle though. I wanted Runespell Overture pretty badly, but decided to pass on it during the TG sale. For $3.50, Runespell plus all those other games is a great deal

Everyone on my steam list already owns these so just going to toss them out
