Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
How many games is normal for a CAG Steamer to have?

I have 404 games.... :/ .............. I don't want to know how much money I spent, good deals or not.

On the plus side, I have 404 games! :D

Even taking into account what it costs to build a gaming rig, or, in my case, a fancy laptop (which I now wish would have been a desktop, but that's life; desktops are harder to move across the ocean), I think PC gaming, thanks to Steam deals, is actually cheaper than console gaming.
oh hell yes steam is cheaper. i'm glad i just started doing steam before the holiday sale. i bought borderlands GOTY for $40 for 360 a year ago and its $7.49 on steam...

I've noticed this as well. I just got my first PS3 over Black Friday, and I've been going "meh" at spending so much money on PS3 games when I could get the same game (and more) for much cheaper on Steam. However, with some hunting, I've been able to find some decent deals so it's not all a wash. I HAVE been wanting to play some PS3 exclusives for years now, like the Uncharted series, so that alone will keep me happy for a while.
How much longer is the borderlands deal going? I need to convince my friends to get the DLC pack.
One more hour.

Not to worry though, it's been this price before.
I can say with 95% certainty that Borderlands will be this price again during the holiday sale.
I agree w/ this.
Borderlands and all of its content has been on sale at 75% off more times this year than I can count.

Oh, I lost count LONG AGO! LOL.

I've probably got probably over 500 PC games - Retail boxes, Steam, and other DD services.

This doesn't count also the load of old NES, Genesis, PSX, and Game Gear games that I have.
And I have a good deal of those, too.
DD is Dungeon Defenders for $3.74 or 4 pack $11.24
Yay - glad I held out.. that's a great deal.
Ill buy a 4 pack in a minute here. If you or anyone else is interested they can send me a PM here or on Steam(also MSI Magus). First 3 to message get a copy.
consider this done!

Yeah I got it at that price a while ago. I try to convince them everytime it comes around. I should just try and find a CAG group to play with one of these days or something.

Everybody seems to love Dungeon Defenders, but after playing the demo, I just couldn't get over the weird camera angle and floatiness of it all. Is it just me or do other people have a hard time enjoying it for its floatiness?
That's what Steam and it's constant sales are all about, sucka!
I don't think being a cheap ass gamer means "gotta catch 'em all", that's IMO. For me, being a CAG means being responsible with my money because I know I don't make a living out of these little fellas  Having 400+ games in your Steam account only tells me that you won't ever play them all and just bought them in the spur of the moment. Why am I a "sucka" when I'm not the one dishing out money like a madman? :bouncy: Don't take it bad, I'm just standing up to what I believe.

Or maybe you're Zeigest, or Angry Joe or whoever .. because I'd totally understand it, you'd be making a living out of playing games.

I used to have the gotta catch em all mentality when I was younger. I had to buy every last good game that came out and I also bought quite a few games day 1. As iv gotten older though iv accepted its never going to be possible to catch them all and more importantly that its a huge waste of money. Every year we add more and more people to this big blue marble and every year tech grows more then anyone could imagine. This combination means that every year we see more and more and more and more video games get released. Even if you wanted to argue it was possible right now to play every good game released....that wont be the case for long. Iv just accepted that its better to play things a year or two behind everyone else and spend $5-$10 then to pick stuff up for $60 because I have to have the newest and coolest thing. ANd iv learned to accept since I will never manage to catch them all I should just be happy having something to play and dozen or more games on my backlog at any time(which isnt a waste of money when you spend $3-$15 a game).

I thought Brink was crummy, to be honest. As a Wolf:ET lover I wanted to like it but the level design and basic gameplay just don't feel honed or balanced. SMART is a gimmick that feels more tacked on than anything. Maybe I couldn't figure it out but I played quite a few games of it.

Also, the unlock schema is stupid (As in REAL upgrades locked behind fulfilling their silly minigames. Not just additional choices. The game that started all this, MW, at least got it 90% right by ensuring low level players still had the same lethality. But every game after just messes it up.) and the AI is even dumber and the merging of campaign and MP is just something that does not work, especially with such aggressively stupid bots.

Did you try all three of the different camera views? There's the isometric view, an over-the-shoulder view, or you can play in first person if you want.

It does have a floaty feel to it though, but I didn't really find it bothersome.

Yeah. The field of view on the over the shoulder was a bit narrow, first person loses a lot of situational awareness, and isometric view was odd because I expected it to control diablo-style, but it didn't.

I buy games that I know I will play. This is the reason why I don't plan to buy Duke Nukem Forever, or why I haven't bought Crysis.

I know I will play Dungeon Defenders for sure. I love games like this and with a co-op feature that is a definite buy, but right now I'm going through some of the games I recently bought from the Autumn Sale and it's going to take roughly two to three weeks to beat them all. A game with 75% off, and that I know I will play should be a good purchase, but I felt like the game might come in a bundle for a better deal.

If I have beaten all the games, buying this game right now will be a great purchase no matter what 'cause I enjoyed it right away, but with three to five games unbeaten I don't think it's a great idea to buy them now if you think they might be come in a bundle or reappear in the Winter Sale.

People asking about 4 packs: Go to the damn trading forum. There's a thread there for group buys.

I feel like a chump for picking this up at 7.50 from Amazon. I've only logged an hour and change, and here it is on the cheap. I will be picking up all the DLC though.

Just a thought about having a lot of games. You don't necessarily need to get 40 hours of gameplay out of some of these titles to get your money's worth at these prices. For some of these game, the price is worth trying it out and if you don't like it, you didn't waste much. For others, getting just a few hours might be all that it is worth.

Granted, I don't have 400 games, but I also don't have the time others have.

Wow, in for Dunegon Defenders. Steam has been ramping up their dailies since this wishlist thing started. I mean Terrarria, Dungeon Siege, Borderlands and now Dungeon Defenders. That's two more popular (well more promoted) indie games and two retail titles.

Yeah, I agree that at some cheap prices just playing some games a little is enough to get the value out of it. I've gotten my money out of most of the games even if I just spent one day playing them.

There is a big difference between buying a dozen games at $3-$5 a piece and then not liking a few and buying dozens of extra games often at $15 just because their 80% off and then not liking or not even playing many. People treat steam in a lot of different ways....but it seems most I know just have a need to buy waaaaay more then they could ever play. Its like human psyche to see 50% off and think OMG I HAVE TO HAVE THAT!

I think the beauty of Steam is that if you are really savvy and patient, you can get hundreds of games for the price of a handful of new releases on the consoles. I'm personally trying more types of games than I would have before because I don't have to make a serious investment (Damn you, Faerie Solitaire!). Yes, I have 255 games, but my average cost per game is under $3, which is less than a rental. But I'm also at a point where I have a lot of the games that I really want that aren't brand new releases, so my rate of purchase is slowing down.

My line of thinking during sales is this: Can I get a game I want without increasing my average purchase price? If I get a couple games I want in a bundle and get a few others along with it, but my average price stays low, I'll consider the purchase. That way, I get the games I'm really interested in for cheap, and I get some other stuff that I can try if I feel like it and that I may end up liking.
What's the verdict on Dungeon Defenders DLC? It's cheap, but I don't know what's worth it or not.
eh, i like the costumes. the halloween map is ramparts sorta reskinned. I like it though the enemies are all in costumes and you get exclusive loot. I havent played warping core or have an opinion on the alternate characters.

Went ahead and bit on it, the game + DLC for 5 bucks isn't too bad.

buying steam games on sale almost every day makes me hesitant to buy 20$+ console games, knowing they will eventually hit that price sooner or later, and cheaper steam version too... which in the end i will prefer. although i spent too much on black friday sales.

who could pass up on that 75% off dungeon defenders, bought it with a group, although i have the psn version (15$...). also pc version have DLCs already that the console version doesn't have.

slowly, i'll get steam versions of all multiplatform games i have, then maybe sell the console copy.

Bought Dungeon Defenders. Gonna pass on the DLC. I would of picked it up if they had a bundle for like $4.50 but I wasn't interested in it anyway.

I love Steam because there are so many cheap games. I mean a price of a Starbucks Coffee is almost $4 and for that price even if I dislike the game, I didn't lose much where as if I spent $20-60 on a game and I hate it, then I have to trade it in (if it's not PC), and get like what, maybe 50% if that back of it's value. Plus I feel good supporting indie developers. It's what helps drive innovation in games and you get a lot of great games.

anyone to want save like 74 cents and get in on a 4-pack with me? i was gonna buy a copy for myself and my friends since its his bday tomorrow (and i want someone to play with).

i'll buy a 4-pack if anyone is interested

EDIT: oops, just saw the stream group thread. guess ill go over there

as for steam deals and backlog issues, i have quite a bit of steam games that i havent gotten around to yet. however, $3 and less is enough for me to make an impulse buy and not regret it even if i dont get around to it for awhile. recently, ive spent about $12 on 3 indie bundles and orcs must die. i can definitely live with that

Well I just tracked and found i have spent 114 dollars on steam for over 60 games since 2009. That's less than 2 bucks a game. I won't play all of them as much and some I did not like, but it's less than the price of 2 brand new games and well worth it. When I used to bargain hunt at half price books I still ended up paying 7-8 bucks for 1 computer game so this just gives me more bang for the same buck I would have spent.

Has anyone ever seen discounts for Football Manager 2012? I know I could snatch it at $29.99 (last time I checked at least) but I currently need to sell things I have in order to buy anything, hence my sig :whistle2:(.

I'd jump on it for $19.99.

I just picked up a 4-pack of Dungeon Defenders. PM me if you want one of the 3 gifts available for $2.81 via PayPal Gift. Going to bed now, but will check my PMs after work tomorrow. As stated, the pack is already purchased so no fear of losing out! Thanks

A quick note on Dungeon Defenders DLC.

I've had the game since launch, and I got all of the DLC free (Halloween costumes, halloween mission pack, warping core mission pack) apart from the "New heroes" pack.

Basically, if you own the game at the point where the new content was released, you got it free. I don't think this will last forever but it was a nice touch.

They've got their first proper expansion DLC pack coming out soon if I recall. Probably another 4-5 maps and some crazy ass weapons. They're raising the level cap too.

I've played 97 hours so far, and I only have one level 70 character. I've still got most of the maps to finish on insane, as well as the vast majority of the challenges.

This sale has been a great excuse for me to badger my friends into buying it.
