Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Congratulations!!! You own another copy of AYIM if you bought the Humble Indie Bundle 4. Enjoy and best wishes!! :p I think the only games i have had more copies of than AYIM is World of Good and Machinarium. Although Frozen Synapse is getting close.
Holy crap, HIB4 is the bundle that keeps on giving.
Anyone notice that they're holding over yesterday's deals for a little less than four hours? Look at the bottom of the page.

I guess after all the issues they had with the main page on the first sale day, they're holding over the sales to compensate for that.
Love this. Hope they do this every day, and in future sales too. If I see that day 2 doesn't have anything I want, then I might buy something extra off day 1!
These special sale achievements ruin good games for a lot of people.

Developers will make the achievement really difficult, and that's someone's first impression of the game. Then they end up hating it. It should be an enticement to get someone to try your game, nothing more.

Btw, the Wii version of AYIM is actually the best one. Rotation isn't limited to right angles, and there's more levels.
I played AYIM before but I didn't care for it when I bough the HIB 3. Playing it for the achievement reaffirmed that I disliked the game. I don't just buy and play games for the achievement, I will get the achievement but I like to at least put some time into the game to have a real impression of the game. AYIM just doesn't do it for me.

Also thank god someone found a hack for the Beat Hazard achievement. 20 minutes of a holiday station would kill me

Here's what's preventing me from picking up Psychonauts. Spending $2.49 for a chance at another 25% off coupon. Oh, and I already own Psychonauts on the Xbox.

Just too hard to spend money on a CHANCE at an item. If I hadn't gotten crap for the first 4 items, I might have given it another shot... but I picked up Dungeons of Dredmore today and got bupkis for that, so I'll pass on anything else for the day.

I picked up the Fable pack for $20. Being an Xbox achievement ho, I can play Fable 3. I never played the first game, so I can do that too.

Well Psychonauts on Steam did receive a fairly significant free update once Double Fine had the rights back. (essentially the HD treatment)

Yeah, I'm doing my best not to buy games just for the achievements. I did buy Orcs Must Die, but I did so after looking up a bunch of info about and reviews for the game, as usual.
Does Sacred Gold ever go under 5 bucks? I've heard its good, and have been waiting, but still seems steep for a 10 year old game. Worth it at $4.99?
I haven't seen Sacred Gold below $5. I bought it for $5 a couple of years ago, around the time Sacred 2 came out. I found it unplayable. As ARPGs go, it felt primitive in 2009. There were a lot of interface decisions that I didn't like; playing it was more work than fun. Diablo and Diablo 2 were more fun to play, and they are literally 10+ years old (Sacred Gold came out in 2004).

If you haven't yet, Try Titan Quest instead. It's dirt cheap all the time, too. Always under $10 at Amazon for base game plus expansion pack "Immortal Throne", and I guarantee hands-down that you'll see it for $5 during this sale, with Immortal Throne.

Buying all that stuff individually is cheaper, especially considering you can cut out stuff like the Dog costume...

Seriously, what the fuck is with this dog costume? I have to buy it to give someone, just to freak them out.

I'm the same I just won't buy a game just to complete an achievement for a chance at a prize/gift. I did that on the previous steam treasure hunt and ended up with a few games I didn't like (hello Toki Tori, Bit Trip Beat) This time I am only going for achievements on games I already own.

The Dungeons of Dredmor achievement took me about an hour. I kept finding eggs or grog but not both. Fortunately, now that I have it, they seem to have fixed awarding credit for the directives.

One more piece of coal and 50% off Civ V GotY. Drat.

I've never played games on pc but I'm kind of interested in playing the half-life series. Would you guys recommend it even though I haven't bought a graphics card?

I dunno if this has already been said or anyone else noticed, but I just discovered something interesting.

Obviously it wouldn't work in this specific case since Fallout isn't a Valve game, but if you happened to get the correct coupon...

Really? I did it an hour ago and it took 3 minutes. There was money and an egg not far from the entrance. I took the money back to the vending machine and bought grog. I even restarted and did it again to see if it was a fluke. That time it took maybe 7 or 8 to find an egg, but money for the grog wasn't a problem.

I'm trying to get the spiral knights achievement but I can not get the game passed the confirm your character page. I push confirm but nothing happens. Any advice?

Yes. And you should be able to run either game if you've bought a computer in the past 5 years.

I got the spiral knights achievement and won 50% off Divinity 2. I don't think I'll be going out of my way to earn these anymore, the first 3 coupons I got are for things I have no interest in.

Care to share that?

Just gave my first game through Steam (damn friends refused to set up wishlists for the longest time.) Feels good.
Care to share that?
Start it up as you normally would, and once it starts, alt-tab away or minimize the window. Wait a minute or two, then come back and unpause. The music should cut out shortly. When it does, let yourself die. The timer will continue and the game keeps going even though you don't respawn. Just leave that window open and active for 20 minutes, and you have the achievements.
Care to share that?
Start a survival game with the Christmas radio music on. Minimized the game. Wait 1-3 minutes. Start playing; the music should soon turn off. Crash your ship. You will not respawn yet the timer will continue to tick on.

You never know, you might end up with a game or two. I saw a screencap of someone on Reddit who got Skyrim.

My plan is to do the achievements for the games I already have or are very interested in.

Do you have an xbox 360? Play the Orange Box there. It looks great and plays great too. If you are a console gamer that's the right place to play it. Mouse and keyboard controls can be frustrating for newbies like myself.

Thanks! I'll have to do that when I get home.

Half-Life 1 should be playable on any modern computer with any onboard video.

Half-Life 2 and the episodes aren't that demanding and the engine scales pretty well so if you have an onboard ATI or Nvidia chipset you might be okay and even higher end Intel chipsets might be able to handle it.

If you have an ATI or Nvidia chipset you can try out Half-Life 2: Lost Coast which is sort of a tech demo that will let you see how well the engine runs on your computer. You'll need Steam and then go to this link for Nvidia and this link for ATI. If that runs okay the game should, too.

If you cannot run the Half-Life 2 games they are available on console via The Orange Box which should be cheap now.

Two questions for you guys... is anyone else having trouble keeping items in the cart? Whenever I add something and then try to add another item, it keeps clearing my cart.

Secondly, where are you seeing these achievements for games like And Yet It Moves and Beat Hazzard as being part of the Great Gift Pile, I don't see those anywhere. I completed all but one of yesterdays (missing the Heroes one) and then looking at today's I don't see them either. Not sure what I am missing.

They are looking at this http://steamtreasurehunt.wikia.com/wiki/Winter_Objectives#Objectives I believe.....trying to work ahead of the curve unless I missed the announcement of these as well

Is that a good price on Orcs must die? I believe it was free with something ign related but i never put any attention to it because i hate ign.

Is that a good price on Bunch of heroes?

Is that a good price on Dungeons of dredmor? I believe it was a part of one of those indie bundles but I missed out on it.

I highly recommend Psychonauts especially at $2.50 awesome price!
I've got 5 coal so far and nothing else. I'm not going to buy stuff unless I'll actually play it if this keeps up.
Honestly man, I'd adopt that principle right now. You probably have better odds at a roulette table than this.

Ugh what crappy sales today. The Witcher 2 only 40% off... no thanks. MW2? Seriously, with those prices for their crappy old stuff, and the sales never getting below 50% I wonder why they still even put them CoD games up at all. Costume quest (never heard of it) and lego games? What is this, a kindergarten?
Also, no games interesting enough to get any new pile present thingies for.

Boring.
Honestly man, I'd adopt that principle right now. You probably have better odds at a roulette table than this.
Either it still broken for me (what are the odds of getting 5 objectives completed and all of them are coal, that's what happened so far) or the odds are very lousy.

I don't regret buying orcs must die or edge. I had a lot of fun playing those two games. Today's sale is looking to be average at best.
i played the demo for costume quest, i found it a little repetitive. does it get better?
I havn't played the demo, but I have beaten the game and the answer to your question is no. It's a turn based rpg, pretty short and repetitive. If the charm and humor, don't do it for you, then the game will be pretty pointless.

Am I the only person that thinks it's funny that Duke Nukem is only $5 and not even in the top 20 sales? I bet the original version would sell better than this piece of crap.. at least there is some sentimental value with the original version
edit: It's not even in the top 20 games that cost less than $5.. lol
i played the demo for costume quest, i found it a little repetitive. does it get better?
Not really. I spent about 3-4 hours with the game on XBLA. It is what it is. Quirky RPG elements but meh, didn't think it held up to other Double Fine games like Stacking.

Titan Quest Gold (TQ and the Immortal Throne expansion) is a gem indeed. IT improves some UI elements and adds a lot of excellent extras to the game, particularly those artifact things that let you combine certain items to make an incredibly powerful accessory that doesn't take up much space in your inventory. The game as a whole still looks great and it's still actively supported by fans with mods and patches. You can find the best site for this here: http://www.titanquest.net/

Seriously, this is one of my favorite hack-n-slash games ever and utterly addictive.

Thank God I've been underwhelmed so far. Only bought Portal 2. $20 is still too much for Rage for me. I don't see anything else compelling enough.
I didn't see another place to put this. I got a copy of Portal 2 I'm willing to trade. Either my wishlist or maybe another game I don't own and haven't noticed yet.
Half Life 2 and Episode 1? I bet you own it though.
Half Life 2 and Episode 1? I bet you own it though.
Yeah, sorry I own way too many steam games, you can see my owned games one tab over from the wishlist.

Honestly, I love Sacred Gold. A lot more than diablo 2 which can be beaten by a blind man, literally.

Course I havent played Sacred Gold in a long long time. So dont know how it would stack up now a days. Either way, my friend gifted me Sacred 2 like 20 minutes ago, awesome! I honestly cant wait to play.

I have a "Left 4 Dead" I'm looking to trade...
Yes. And you should be able to run either game if you've bought a computer in the past 5 years.
Awesome and thanks. I bought a new computer about 3 months ago This one to me exact and I wasn't sure if I needed to buy a graphics card to run some older games like The Witcher.

edit: I have Half-life 2 episode 2 on the orange box via PS3. Whats the difference between the Half-life 2 and the Half-life episode 1 and 2. Are they completely different games? Another thing I wanted to know is do any of these game supported controllers like a wired Xbox 360 controller?
