Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

So maybe in your case, your leftover 8th will remain as 1 entry, and you'll only get gifts for each achievement from here on. If you ever get another coal, can you follow up here?
I feel pretty sure they're just saying you won't turn 7 coal into 1 coal.

So far, the only thing I've bought is a Fable 3 dog outfit I sent to someone.

I've also got a 50% off a valve game coupon, 1 coal, and a copy of ES: Oblivion: GOTY

I don't know if I have any interest in actually playing an elder scrolls game, but I was excited and impressed to receive it. Assuming that items were added to my account in the order of the achievements, then it may have actually been for the recursive gift.

Hey, does anybody know this? When you're looking at somebody's achievements, is the time it was unlocked presented in your time zone, the person who unlocked it's time zone or some specific Steam time zone?
Honestly, I love Sacred Gold. A lot more than diablo 2 which can be beaten by a blind man, literally.

Course I havent played Sacred Gold in a long long time. So dont know how it would stack up now a days. Either way, my friend gifted me Sacred 2 like 20 minutes ago, awesome! I honestly cant wait to play.
I also liked Sacred Gold when I purchased it many years ago. I didn't finish it because honestly there are like a billion quests you can complete if you wish, and the map is absolutely huge. My first child was born around the time I bought it so obviously I gladly made her the priority.

Sacred Gold does have a few rough edges but I really felt that the developers put together a fun game that ultimately didn't take itself seriously. There were I recall all sorts of clever pop culture references in the game that were pretty funny. They weren't always obvious which I think was by design. For the most part you're in that world and you will absolutely have a grand time scouring for secret caves and areas in buildings for loot and quests. The sheer amount of character variety it also one of the great selling points for the game since they generally feel quite different from each other.

I bought Sacred 2 and the expansion (Europe only) and... man, that game felt like a totally different game to me. I disliked the UI and the general game design (everything was so convoluted) so I stopped playing soon after. I might have been too hasty but I still don't think I'll go back to reinstalling it any time soon. I forget what's different about vanilla Sacred 2 vs. with the expansion pack.
Looking for an opinion, does Psychonauts hold up well? I've never played it before but heard a lot about it.
I played it start to finish for the first time two years ago and had a great time. I'm not even that into 3D platformers usually.

I've got two idling accounts with CS:S and TF2 on them, so I am collecting some extra coal for my main Steam account. Looks like when you trade over a coupon that you already have (33% Valve coupon in this case) it just magically evaporates...anyone else have the same experience?
Do these 50% off coupons stack onto holiday discounts that are already on games (i.e. decrease a game from being 25% off to 75%)?
No, because they don't work until after the holiday sale is over. They will stack with other discounts unless otherwise specified. So, if a game goes on sale between Jan 2 and Mar 1 these coupons should increase the discount.
Do these 50% off coupons stack onto holiday discounts that are already on games (i.e. decrease a game from being 25% off to 75%)?
i would imagine it would be 50% off of the discounted price anyway... so something that was 25% off would be 62.5% off with the coupon. just my guess though.
Do these 50% off coupons stack onto holiday discounts that are already on games (i.e. decrease a game from being 25% off to 75%)?
No, the normal coupons do not stack. UNLESS... you get a magical "golden" coupon that's good for the duration of the sale.

Sadly, I'm not lying about this either.

ok so spiral knights is awful.. I hope to never pick it up again. I got my 200 crowns, went in lockdown and hit someone with a snowball multiple times.. no achievement unlock? Happening to anyone else?
Do these 50% off coupons stack onto holiday discounts that are already on games (i.e. decrease a game from being 25% off to 75%)?
1. That's not how a coupon works

2. They don't run at the same time
Son of a bitch!! I just assumed that when you redeemed coal you got a game. It never occurred to me that those stupid coupons would also be a possibility.
Which makes "option B" sound better - save your coal and put it towards the grand prize drawing. I mean, talk about unlikely... but it says the number of entries toward the wishlist-game-prize drawing is based on the number of coals you have left in your account. I'd rather have 7 more entries towards those prizes - games actually in my wishlist - than a random shot at a random game that I might not even want. OR... another coupon!

I'll have to think about that. The odds of getting something you want are probably better if you craft coal than put all your coal into the big drawing at the end. But still. It's worth thinking about.

I was hoping to use the Steam trading thread to get Half Life: Episode 1 and 2 for my husband, but there's not a lot of activity there. I'm really surprised. I thought everyone would be trying to trade their games.

Me, I have Left 4 Dead, and I'm no zombie-killing fan. So I'm trying to trade it.

Are you all keeping your games? Saving them to trade/gift later?

I expect there will be a lot of trading fallout after the sale is over. I encourage the regulars here to put "haves" and "wants" into discrete signatures, like Provis has. It'll help us to pair up. The trading thread works too - I've posted games for sale in there and always unloaded them within a day.

I can give you Half-Life Episode 1 and Half-Life 2 in a trade? Anything you want to part with?

I guess that makes sense. Everyone's hoping to win the freebie game they want. Like me. I kinda want Portal 2, but in a super-minimal way. Like, "Oh, I won it for free. I guess I'll play it," sort of way.

Speaking of free games, is there a list somewhere of all the potential games we can win?

it might be any game.
ive seen screenshots of people winning skyrim.

Yeah I thought a lot more people would be trading by now. Seems like most of the people I know got Portal 2 for free (maybe they're just lucky!?!?!) so I thought the trade value on it would be pretty low... turns out I'm wrong.

I have an extra copy of Terraria I've been trying to unload all day but no takers yet

Skyrim? Holy cow.

Well, I see what you're saying, but it seems that the give-away has adjusted odds. For example, we're far more likely to get Valve games than others.

I've got a 33% off any Valve game and 50% off LA Noire if anyone wants to trade PM me.

Also I recommend Dungeons of Dredmor of today's sales, can't go wrong for that price.
ok so spiral knights is awful.. I hope to never pick it up again. I got my 200 crowns, went in lockdown and hit someone with a snowball multiple times.. no achievement unlock? Happening to anyone else?
Agreed - terrible game. I got the achievement immediately after hitting someone with a snowball, not sure what happened with you. Uninstalled.

Bunch of Heroes... got to level 22 and no achievement before - guess I'll try again now that it's updated.

Debating whether to get Dredmore for the achievement but I've gotten 4 coal in a row now and losing interest.

Wow I must have the suckiest luck. 3 achievements = 3 coals. Oh, and the 25% Valve coupon. Well, time to go play spiral nights for that achievement...

This thread moves quickly enough during a big sale without people using it to spam their trade lists. There are two threads in the trading forum for that. Here and here.

Thanks, and Merry Steamas.
Really? I did it an hour ago and it took 3 minutes. There was money and an egg not far from the entrance. I took the money back to the vending machine and bought grog. I even restarted and did it again to see if it was a fluke. That time it took maybe 7 or 8 to find an egg, but money for the grog wasn't a problem.
I checked the vending machines every time, even had the perk to steal free items, but "grog" was never one of the selections. I couldn't do it until I found both grog and the egg in the wild.

Or could it have been done with other beverages? From what I read, I assumed it had to be grog specifically.
Redeemed 7 Coal for a damn coupon.
That answers that question. Not combining any of my coal. I can't fathom what made Valve think anyone would want a coupon. Since we're completing the sale objectives, we're clearly aware that there's, you know, this SALE going on with equal if not better savings.

They should have made the coupons smaller, maybe 5%, but available on top of the sale prices.
I imagine I'll get the Farming Simulator game for a prize.
It's better than a 33% off Farming Simulator coupon.

Consider removing the festivus pole from your backside and relaxing a bit.

This is an amazing idea. An coupon for an extra 5-10% off a game would be icing on the cake. It'd be extra awesome if you could apply that to any game you wanted too (even on a daily deal).

Agreed that I'm not sure what the deal is with the coupons, since they don't last particularly long after the sale (so it's not like you can just hang onto them because some game seems too expensive even on sale and get it later) and the games are probably way cheaper now than they will be with the coupons later.

Only thing I can think of is don't they usually do like a "best of" after the sales or something? Maybe that will coincide with the coupons or something?

Free stuff is obviously better than not free stuff, but the coupons seem weird.
I got Counter-Strike Source, 1 coal and a 50% off Valve coupon.

I actually wanted Counter-Strike and Portal 2. What do you want to trade for?

don't do it game is awful, it seriously has no redeeming qualities. I loved all the original Duke Nukems but this was just terrible if you want to spend money on Duke Nukem buy Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA
I actually wanted Counter-Strike and Portal 2. What do you want to trade for?
I'm completely clueless as to what I want, just make me an offer that doesn't include more coal or coupons.

Good grief, I even KNOW that. I played a good third of it I think.

But part of me has a morbid curiousity about that DLC...

Not even my freshman high school students think this game is good. They did say it was playable, but definitely not a great game worth my time.

So I just glitched Revenge of The Titans. I don't know how I did it but no enemies spawned but yet they all died so I got 4 free cheevos.

So far I knocked off 24 holiday cheevos :D.
