Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

BTTF was pretty good, but a bit too easy. Sam and Max and Monkey Island were my favorites from Telltale. Also, I have a friend who is working on The Walking Dead, so that should be good. He says it is based more on the comics than the TV show and doesn't follow the same characters.
Any thoughts on Payday the heist? Also damn, Rage is tempting at that price.

is it just me or does payday seem overpriced for a daily deal?
Payday: The Heist only came out about a month ago, which is why it's 'only' half off.

I've played it and I like it. I concur that it's best in co-op with people you know as opposed to random internet jerks (although it can still be fun then too). If you like Left 4 Dead, it's a good match. It's swarms of cops instead of the undead, while you try to do objectives, and there are the 4 types of special units to watch out for, etc. It also has a leveling component where you can see which of three perks you want to work towards and improve your stats and guns over multiple games.

As for ME, I'm up to 6 coal along with my Oblivion GOTY, and I've talked myself out of Batman because I didn't finish Arkham Asylum yet, no JP because I've got loads of other telltale games from last year's complete pack that aren't played yet, and I'm getting dangerously close to biting on the Sherlock Holmes bundle. Also likely to grab the You Monster DLC!
I got a "the wonderful end of the world" and a couple coals from the ones i did yesterday. Want to actually play psychonauts, so holding of on that acheivement.
Ooo, I want The Wonderful End of the World. I'm hoping for a Daily Deal on that and Aaaaa(etc.).
For comparison's sake, did you like Back to the Future?
Jurassic Park is actually very different than BttF, and sadly inferior. The game is dominated by QTEs (and no, it's nothing like Heavy Rain, as the developers have claimed) and you have no direct control over the characters. Instead, you control the camera and indicate where the characters should go through predetermined animations. It's all rather mediocre and I would recommend saving your money. One of the biggest issues is the PC version has significant bugs, like repeating dialogue and slowdown in the QTEs and Telltale still hasn't put out a patch and evidently isn't known for patching their games after launch.

So tempted to get the Mount & Blade Complete pack as well as the Sherlock Holmes pack, but I hate spending over $10 on the daily deals.
thanks for the advice, i'll definitely pick it up one way or the other!
Oh, and an FYI for you as well as other potential shmuppers here!
The Steam Treasure Hunt Wiki noticed some Christmas achievements for all three of the games in the Gundemonium Collection. For that reason, I'd be extremely surprised if we don't see them featured on at least one of the days. ;D

I'm actually looking forward to see what they do with Fables.

that was my thought... said something about it in my first post, but it got buried pretty quickly. thanks again!
Anyone who has played RAGE both on 360 and PC, which one is better?
I imagine that the texture pop-in issue is reduced or non-existent on PC.

I hate when things like that happen. I feel slighted. Oh they won't notice if we just nix this pack.

Claimed. Thank You very much! :)

Please feel free to PM me your steam name so that I may friend you and possibly return the favor in the future :)

For what its worth I have put 36 hours into Warband and 14 in with fire and sword. Mount and blade games can be fun just keep in mind its kind of a sandbox game. Never played the sherlock holmes games.
I imagine that the texture pop-in issue is reduced or non-existent on PC.
There's still some texture pop-in on the PC version (I'm playing it right now) but there are some config file tweaks and graphical settings you can adjust that make the pop-in almost unnoticeable. In fact, right now I only notice it when i first load the game up from my save. After that, smooth 60 fps throughout.

I loved Back to the Future. I thought Sam and Max were okay, but I just found BttF more endearing, with it being, you know, Back to the Future and all.

I played some of the first episode and thought it wasn't too bad. Yes, cinematic with QTEs and nothing much "adventurey" about it. But it started promising...

Not thrilled to hear about PC issues, though.

I got my 4th coupon today, it's 50% off Metro 2033. These coupons are a terrible idea!

I didn't realize Rage was $15, last time I looked it was $20 something. Considering!
Any opinions on the Batman DLC?
If you like the challenge maps (you can only use the DLC characters and map there) it's essential! Robin and Nightwing control differently than Batman and Catwoman, and both are a lot of fun to play. But I also like beating the crap outta thugs and trying to get high combo scores.

Defense Grid DLC is on sale again for 75% off. 2.20 for all of them including the new one. 4 for the base game and all DLC.

Still waffling on my purchases for today. I have Call of Pripyat and Shadow of Chernobyl (haven't played either yet), and thought I'd pick up Clear Sky to complete the collection, but it seems like that game is the least-liked out of all three... I'm not even sure if I need to play them in order for the sake of a storyline or whatever... help? I know it's just $2.50 but I'm becoming a lot more selective of the games I buy since I went nuts last year.

Picking up the Defense Grid DLC though.

It certainly isn't necessary. You probably won't even realize you were missing one since Clear Sky is a prequel to Chernobyl (you should NOT play Clear Sky first btw).

I would say that Clear Sky will be this cheap again, wait until you play the others to see if you even want it.
question:
how do you guys earn coal? all my objectives have yielded coupons or games.
Its random, you either get coal, a game, or coupon.
that was my thought... said something about it in my first post, but it got buried pretty quickly. thanks again!
Yeah, that's why I'm holding off on picking up the pack for the Gundemonium Collection. $4.99 is a rad deal but as a CAG I'm hoping it goes lower :D There are demos to the games so give those a whirl if you're on the fence.
Its random, you either get coal, a game, or coupon.
so i guess you get them by doing the objectives.

I was just wondering since some of you guys have accumulated so much coal already. and from games like revenge of the titans which isn't even on my objectives list.

As much as I don't like the coupons, they might be useful with a midweek/weekend madness deal...you just have to pray the game you have a coupon for goes up.

Looks like the only thing for me is the Batman DLC @ 50% off, although rage for 14.99 is tempting, but i imagine it will be 10 by the summer sale...hmmm

Hmm nothing for me today.

Sherlock Holmes looks interesting - lotta goods for the $8, but adventure games tend to go unplayed here. I learned that from Sam & Max.

Payday: The Heist looks good, but I can wait for it to go lower.

The Stalker Pack is definitely nice, wish it were all combined into a triple pack tho...lol
question:

All I've gotten is coal. I want a game or coupon!

Welp, looks like it'll be my first purchase today - Sherlock Holmes collection.
Just to reiiterate, Rage is $15. It's not on the front page for some reason, but it is on sale.
But is it really worth it at 15? the price has been tanking pretty quick on this one.
