Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

I only found out about humble bundle this year. I missed the previous three. So I figured I'd just spend 15 dollar on it. Worth it.
Just got that Trine achievement. As much as I want to like the game, it's just too frustrating for me control wise. I am using Mouse + Keyboard because it's easier to aim the Archer with the mouse but it's just frustrating playing that damn wizard trying to make precise things.

At least I only spent $2 on it.
You can't make precise things with the mouse, but you can with the controller? That doesn't make sense to me :p I've finished Trine. It's absolutely gorgeous and fun to play. I've also installed the Trine 2 demo and that looks even more stunning. If this sale turns out as boring as the last two days then I will definitely buy it full price.

Finally gonna cave and get Mount & Blade today. Just the first for now. Warband on lowest settings only hits like 22-29 fps on my laptop without much going on lol I'm planning an upgrade sometime next year anyway.

But hey, I actually won something useful today - Shadowgrounds & Shadowgrounds: Survivor from doing the group joining achievement. Too lazy to do anything else lol

Anyone free to do the sword and soldiers achievement? If so my steam id is Cabhills add me.

edit: Thanks Houdinilogic for the help. Got the achievement finished.

Seeing all this Christmas cheer has made me all warm inside. So I perused my email inbox for all my old Humble Bundle codes and found a bunch of extras that I didn't use. PM me if you want one of these:
Humble Indie Bundle 2 (Taken)
Humble Indie Bundle 3 (Taken)
Humble Frozenbyte Bundle (Taken)

Cheers!

Also, does anybody think either Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity or the Galactic Civ II complete is going to be a daily? There aren't any holiday achievements for them, and I would hate it if I couldn't pick these up on-the-cheap (sub ~$7 each). I loved these games a couple years ago, and I need to pick them up on Steam.

While we're sharing Humble Keys, I looked to see what else I had. PM me for what you want.

Actually what I meant to say was it is much faster for me with the mouse to use the cursor for things like the archer's hookshot than the controller. Overall I just found it a bit too frustrating at times with the mage and archer at points, I like the idea of Trine just wasn't my game in the end.

Just tried Dungeon Defender's with a friend. I am usually not a fan of tower defense games but let me tell you, that is some great fun right there.

Posted this in wrong thread

I just managed the Swords & Soldiers HD achievement against a random stranger. Wasn't too hard.

1) select Aztecs;
2) keep enemy busy enough for you to research Mind Control;
3) use five times;
4) rejoice.

Took maybe, five minutes? The Spiral Knights achievement took around 25 mins.

Anybody get a copy of X3: Albion Prelude in their library? It just randomly showed up - I never bought it, I never won it, and it's not in my Store Transactions history.

To add to that, mind control's cost is variable based on the unit you use it on. Since the other guy will likely be going for the achievement and using aztecs it will be cheaper to mind control his zombies than other units.

Any comments about the bundles?

With all these bundles lately and upcoming bundles I just don't know how to put my money into good use anymore... Just because of a good/decent variety of games (that I might not even play) tagged with the word Bundle, -XX% discount and holiday season, I start getting tempted and might go crazy with my indecisions...

So far I'm just interested in Super + Awesome bundle, for a few games in both,

-Super Indie Bundle, just two of the games: Gemini Rue (which I missed from the first Indie Royale) and Limbo, not interested on the rest of the games (already own CS+, Dungeons of D. and Revenge of the Titans from other bundles).

-Awesome Indie Bundle, interested on 3 games, but right now more prioritized on Swords and Soldiers for the achievement. The games are Sideway New York, Swords and Soldiers and Tobe's Adventure, not interested on the rest aside from those that I already own from other bundles (Blocks, Eufloria, Jamestown and Isaac).

Not really interested on the Mega Bundle, aside from Sanctus (also missed from the first IndieRoyale) and Zombie Driver.

The problem is, I don't know if the price for those bundles are worthy nor do I know if in the future those games that I want will appear on future bundles or have a more reasonable price individually...
Right now if I get the Super+Awesome, that'd be 37$ for 5 games (2 of them not so sure if I'd play them in a near future, Sideway and Tobe)... Plus the games I still need to get from the GOG holiday sales and those that I already got from previous days of Steam sales (about 30$), oh wait, and those still to come from the remaining of the Steam sale... God, just thinking about it, the money that I'll spend might exceed 100$-150$ (which is quite a lot for my budget) and half of them might be indie games and might not play... I have no problem whatsoever if I were to spend 150$ and those games were indie + not-so-indie games (longer games) like portal, shogun 2, bastion, with a percentage of not-wanted/might-not-play games being lower.

So, how do I manage this situation, help anyone?
Thanks

Nope, and I own Reunion and Terran Conflict.
Wow, Humble Bundle had to raise the minimum purchase to $1 because many of people were making hundreds of accounts, paying $.01 for the Bundle just to activate and enable trading, and then farming for games / coal / coupons.

http://blog.humblebundle.com/post/14549340777/1-min-price-for-getting-steam-keys
That's pretty terrible. It'll probably help them in the long run though, because the people who legitimately wanted the games obviously paid more than $1 in the first place.

Do you own X Superbox? I'm pretty sure it was added to that when it was released.

I just finished the Toki Tori achievement, Catching a Cold. It's the most frustrating one I've done so far. Damn it, I hope they give me a game for that. >_<
If coupons(50%+) do stack with DD or mid-week/weekend deals that have (66%+) does that mean Steam will pay us to play that game.
They won't be applied all at once. The coupon gets applied after. If a game is 75% off already and is $5, you'd get it for 50% off from $5, or $2.50.
Do you own X Superbox? I'm pretty sure it was added to that when it was released.

I do, but Steam usually doesn't retroactively add games.

Edit - figured it out... def did get it free for the Superbox

I'll trade you an HIB3 code for it. (VVVVV , And Yet it Moves , Crayon Physics Deluxe , Cogs , and Hammerfight)

Maybe they could both all get crushed by a torrent of falling pennies, all used to purchase the bundles...
The Sherlock Holmes games are the only things catching my eye today. Any opinions?
One features like, Cthulhu. Sherlock Holmes vs Cthulhu. That should let you know if you'll like it.

If anyone has an extra Humble Bundle #1 code I'd be very grateful! It's the only bundle I've missed out on.

I have a few things I can trade for it, Ben There, Dan That! + Time Gentlemen, Please!, Space Chem, Cthulhu Saves the World, Breath of Death VII, Runespell: Overture, Humble Bundle 3 code, 50% off any Valve game, and I think I still have a Humble Introversion Bundle code as well.
want humble bundle 2 pls :(
The only reason so many people are giving out HB3 codes is because anyone who purchased HB4 and paid over the average got HB3 as a bonus a day or two ago. Those of us that have both are giving away our spare codes... there is no reason to think there are many out there with spare HB2 codes from 6 months ago, sorry.

But here's a spare HB3 key, happy holidays :) :

I'm in the same boat. No money right now, so if there's anything reasonable you'd trade it for in my inventory I'd be more than willing.

Also, if there's anyone who would gift me Payday, Defense Grid Complete Pack, or Guardians of Graxia, I'd be willing to trade some hats or anything else you'd be interested in from my inventory.

A few more codes to throw out. (from IndieGala bundle)

Hey guys, where did it say that if you craft 7 pieces of coal into a gift, you won't get coal again? coz I'm not seeing it anywhere on the website now. I could have sworn I read that somewhere though...

You may be in luck, games that sell well are usually put up for sale again on the last day.
