Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I mean all the DLC is $300 and that's after 81% was taken off the price.
I only have the free DLC and I'm not even done with it all

There's a lot to do in this game with what's offered in the game itself and the free DLC
I'm about to buy an E.Y.E. 4 pack - I plan to give away the extra copies. In return, I would appreciate at least $1 donation to the CAG fundraiser on the front page, but it's not necessary. First 3 PMs will get them, preference given to those who donate.

For the person who asked about Skydrift - I played the demo and it seemed pretty fun. I read on the forums that multiplayer is supposed to be a lot of fun, but it's not always easy to find a match. I almost pulled the trigger at $10 for it, glad I waited now tho.
PM sent

Those wanting to do the coal trade can pm, I am willing to do it multiple times for however many people. But I would put it off for now because the inventory is being hit... hard.

Yea that was a pretty big WTF moment for me too - scary.
Saints Row 3 has had bad performance for me and many others since launch, they still haven't fixed it. I wouldn't recommend buying it now if you think it'll go on sale again later once they improve performance, if they ever do. Driving takes the framerate into the 20s no matter what video settings I use.
I've had SR3 since launch and the game plays perfectly fine for me at a constant 60 fps on Ultra. What drivers are you using?

TODAY'S DEALS (not a whole lot, but there's Frozen Synapse and RAGE)

Aliens VS Predator - even cheaper on Amazon right now, register with steam.

AudioSurf - been cheaper several times - winter achievement. I got this in a $5 indie pack of 5 music games - so it was a $1 in 2010 November sale. delicious steal

Saints Row: The Third - Meh, 33% off isn't a big deal.

E.Y.E. - looks fairly decent for $2.49 - 60/100 meta score - excellent graphics - winter achievement - you decide

Frozen Synapse - heard great things about this - 85/100 meta, $3.74, good deal

Cave Story - CAUTION! Get the Humble Indie Bundle #4 for $5.24 instead and you can then get this game PLUS 11 other indie titles in one huge pack. WOO winter achievement http://www.humblebundle.com/

From Dust - No idea , 79/100 meta is decent, graphics are intriguing, adventure point and click it seems. $7.49 makes this one need some research before the impulse. take your time!

CitiesXL 2012 - Not the best discount at 50% - $19.99 - hardcore fans only otherwise you can wait.

Train Sim 2012 - It's trains... and look at all that expensive DLC! $3.49. probably safe to say you need to be a hardcore fan to enjoy this.

Rage - Ohh, $14.99 already. 79/100 meta, heard good things, heard some annoyances too. However this game apparently has many new things other FPS games don't. Still too high for me right now.

Dirt 3 - hardcore race fans only, otherwise hold off at that $16.99 price and go with Blur instead. Blur deal is still up for 3 hours.

I think it's just Frozen Synapse and E.Y.E for me today. $6.23 for both solid games
I've had SR3 since launch and the game plays perfectly fine for me at a constant 60 fps on Ultra. What drivers are you using?
The latest Nvidia ones. They claim they will either fix the performance or get the video card makers to fix it with drivers.

Just Frozen Synapse for me today since I got EYE yesterday when the price dropped early. Hopefully I dont have issues with EYE like some of you have since it actually seems like something I would enjoy.

My first temptation so far this winter sale, Railworks... I did have a lot of fun playing Flight Simulator X, based on that would I probably enjoy this game too? I'm obviously not buying any of the dlc but how is the game without any dlc (and no plans on ever getting any)?

Most of the Railroad Simulator DLC seems like extra trains to drive. I'm sure you still get a decent value out of the standalone game. Not my cup of tea but it looks interesting.

Ah okay, I'm using CF 6870's with Catalyst 11.11 and CAP 3.

Whoa thar son. get yourself some 12.1 drivers, them be grrrreat
I'm pondering it, but I don't know if I want to go down that rabbit hole of DLC insanity.

I mean all the DLC is $300 and that's after 81% was taken off the price.
Nobody buys all of the DLC. If you like passenger trains, you may buy a couple packs. Then your interest splits between European and American trains/routes. And even then you only buy what's interesting to you. This isn't a DLC situation in which the developer withheld content from the final game. Much of the content is created by individuals who crafted tens if not hundreds of miles of route miles themselves and then they sell their creations. When it comes to flight simulators and train simulators, you can basically sell your mods.

Wow you guys are fast! I was about to go to sleep, but saw my PMs blinky blinkin' - Nivan, Koat, and INCyr were first (with donation offers). I really do need sleep ( I work late swing shifts), so I'll email your codes later.

You other guys who PM'd me, if I continue to get flooded, I'd be willing to help buy a couple more 4 packs to give away (although I don't know if I can do it more than once without another account?), since 1. it's such a good cause and 2. it's Christmas and 3. IloveyoufellowCAGs ;) *sniff*

Thinking about E.Y.E. Opinions? It looked good when I saw the trailer, but then I saw it got pretty mediocre reviews. Also kind of thinking about Audiosurf, but is there really much to the game? I don't want to get bored of it in 30 minutes, even though it is only $2.50

I found the idea of From Dust pretty intriguing and tried the PS3 demo. It was cool but frustrating and I read that it gets more frustrating as the game goes on. I'm gonna pass on it.

If there's a fellow CAG who's willing to wait until I get home from work (in about 4 hours), I'd be willing to trade for the achievement. Coal for coal, coupon for coupon, or even a good ol' regular trade (I got Dota 2 if anyone's interested).

Just a note about today's Audiosurf achievement:

Super easy if you follow these steps. I wasted 15 minutes of time at first before I did this:

1) Choose Pointman Elite mode with a song of your choice. Some have said slower songs work better since you can select a red or white block and drop it easier.
2) Make sure the background is set to Black! This will allow white blocks to appear; I spent 15 minutes with a white background and got only colored blocks the whole time *headslap*
3) Hold down the left mouse button to grab a block, then right mouse button to drop it in the column you want to make the pattern. Red, white, red, white, red is all it takes!
4) Finish the song and enjoy your achievement aka coal/50% coupon for Tiki Tori/free copy of Orange Box you may already own ;D

I read the reviews myself. There's a high standard deviation here - some really like it, some didn't.

It looks like the translation's a mess (French developer) and the user interface is clumsy, but it has an immersive atmosphere and a wealth of RPG-like choices in both character development and conversation.

I'd recommend Audiosurf. So far it's the most enjoyable of the music-based games that I've found, although I know a lot of people prefer Beat Hazard to it. I find Audiosurf better because it's a bit more mellow, not nearly as twitchy, and has a variety of play styles for whatever mood you're in - whether it be relaxing, or something a bit more challenging.

I think it incorporates your music well, and does a good job of making you feel like you're playing along with your music. I'd probably price it at $2.50-$5, and while I haven't spent much time with it, I've never regretted the time I have spent with it.
Today is one of those "thank god I bought all those indie bundles I didn't really want but got anyway" days. Huzzah!
Seriously! Combined with the pick up of E.V.E, I'll be able to complete every objective for today. I'm expecting 3x pieces of coal, 2x 33% off Valve coupons and 1x Some game I already own (if I'm lucky. Otherwise it'll be 3x 33% off Valve coupons.)

I actually have had a blast with that game, Really fun if you have a huge mp3 library
For those of you interested in Saints Row 3, you might want to buy it from GMG

Ugh, between this and the THQ Offer, it's getting harder and harder to pass up. I want to pick it up for the PS3, as they're still giving out SR2 bundles on PSN when you do, but dang, $10 or $24 for all DLC is hard to pass up.

EDIT: nvm it's 19.99 with the coupon
So does that mean Saints Row 3 for $10?
No, I had made that mistake as well. It's $40, with 50% via the coupon for $20. The THQ deal for the game + season pass is still a much better deal.
