Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

Of course you do.
People want Skyrim.
I agree w/ Spree.
Get 'em all.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution for $9.99 is the best deal by far - so definately get that ($9.99 is a "ahead-of-its-time" deal being so close to its release). The game is just plain @#$%*cking awesome! Then consider the Skyrim. Will you get $20+ for christmas to help cover some of it? Totally worth it. That and Skyrim and your gaming is SET for the next couple of months to those 2.
should i buy skyrim for $40 or go to amazon and get Deus Ex and Dead Island for ~$23? hmm...
If you cand only do one go with DE & DI. Those are pretty sweet deals you may not see for a while. I think there's a better chance of Skyrim being $40 again plus you may get one of those 50% off Bethesda coupons.

Agree'd. 50% off is way better than 33% right now. Get Skyrim for $29.99 with one.
DE is more bang for buck with my experience of playing it for many hours now since I got it. $9.99 for easily 100 hours of gameplay and STILL not exploring everything in it.

Certainly not as crazy as Skyrim (what is), but damn fantastic. Calling it "good" is an understatement - you can't call it just good.
Keep in mind they didn't have a recap for the Thanksgiving sale and a lot of people were surprised at that. Although I think there will be one for this holiday sale, you never know. Ok....I'm also trying to push Skyrim because its all kinds of awesome! :)
True, true. I know it's awesome that's not the problem. The thing is time. I've still got games to play and little time to do it. So buying it now would probably not be usefull anyway. Better wait for a better offer. Plus there's still chance of getting a coupon for 50%+ off instead of 33% (or even a free pass, although chances are slim).

Including one of mine :p

Anyways different thing: I almost had reason to rage about RAGE. I fired it up (after a huge 22gig download) only to get wonky gameplay because the game was stuttering and giving multiframes all over the place even with around 45-50 FPS.

Then I remembered that AMD (I have a HD5850) had a new catalyst driver out so I figured what the heck. Luckily it worked. Solid 60FPS with all on max. And the stuttering was solved with Vsync enabled (first time that ever did something positive for me).

I R happy ^^

Ok. I'm just going to go with Deus Ex for now since I am very poor and seems to be the best deal

Edit: I still haven't unlocked the trading thing on steam. Anyone want to add me and trade coal for coal?
For those not hanging out in other sales threads, Dungeon Defenders is $2 on Amazon. I only mention this because it has a winter objective.

EDIT: It also comes with "DLC 1" (not sure which one that is).
I'm guessing DLC 1 is the dragon pet you get from ordering from Amazon. I bought my copy on Steam and don't have that DLC listed.

Also, if someone could toss me an invite to the CAG Steam group, I'd greatly appreciate it: http://steamcommunity.com/id/tattis

I'm a bit upset. I bought Renegade Ops today for the Holiday Achievement but you need to have the DLC in order to get it...and the DLC isn't on sale. Plus, people are saying you get the DLC free when you purchase it (or with the 4-pack) and I don't have ANY of the DLC. A little bit bummed. At least the game is cool.

If anyone has any ideas on something I'm missing, please let me know.

Finally got my first game - the F.E.A.R. pack. I already own them all except the third one, but hey, at least I got a free game. Too bad you can't trade the others it looks like.

The game was 3 bucks at Amazon and came with all the dlc
I traded 10 lumps of coal for Hard Reset. I think I gave up too much but what the hell -- I saw others giving more than that.
You got something you wanted. And think of how many pieces of coal will be out there by the time of the drawing, compared to the number of prizes (151 not counting the 1000 Valve packs). It's like those people who are afraid of dying in a plane crash when driving is much more likely to kill you. Kinda.

You realize those have been dailies in last Winter and Summer sales - there's a high probability it'll go as a daily in the next week.

So far I'm more impressed with Amazon.com and the random deal. THQ UK beat Steam on SR3. Amazon hosed steam on Deus Ex and now Dead Island. 13$ for Dead Island. Instabuy. Get on over to amazon if you want Dead Island. Amazon.com is fantastic. Uhg, I've gotten almost 4 AAA titles for the price of one so far. If I had only waited on games like Rage and Witcher 2.

I should have clarified - I won my first game. Would NEVER purchase a non daily before the last day. While it ain't the best prize, at least I wanted FEAR 3.

I keep seeing people saying they traded all their coal for a game they wanted. Where is this thread? I've got 12 coal and don't care about the raffle (does anybody here think they're REALLY going to win?) and don't want to craft them and get a shit coupon.

Also, FYI, Hard Reset is getting an extended edition in March. There's no word on if original owners are getting the new content for free or not.

Congrats then.... all I got were a bunch of $2.50 valued games... and 24 lumps of damn coal.

Holy crap, thanks for saving me $5 bucks!

I think the DLC was given out free to those who bought before December 19 (the day the DLC was released).

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be passing on Hard Reset now.

Wait, people are passing on Hard Reset for 5 bucks now because they'd rather pay 20 bucks for the updated version?

Chances are the update is going to be free for people who own the original, a dev this small can't afford the ill will

the extended edition just sounds like it adds an expansion that'll be available on steam. I say get the game now for $5 bucks, play it now and get the gift pile achievement, then wait for the expansion to go on sale for 75%.

Even if the Hard Reset DLC isn't free, I cannot imagine it would not cost less than the full version. In other words, you get the $5 version now, and you would have to still save money if the DLC costs money. I would honestly be astonished otherwise.

So after trying Jamestown, Hard Reset (which I am both liking very much) and another game I don't remember I got 2 goals and 33% off Skyrim. It's how much the sale price is right now but it's not that bad. I am holding on to it and then may'be getting it later on when it might (not really) goes on sale or when I hit a good chuck on of my backlog.

Well see, the thing is, Amazon has to establish itself as a good source for games. They have to beat Steam if they want to gain some loyalty. It's like their used trade-ins, they used to offer some really good prices, and while their prices are pretty good still, they get beat by Gamestop sometimes.

Competition is great for consumers.

So I'm gonna pick up a couple of Splinter Cell games, but I'm not sure if I should just go for the Splinter Cell Elite Echelon Edition. I played the original and Chaos Theory, but I haven't played the others available. Any thoughts on Double Agent & Conviction? I seem to recall that one of those two wasn't very well regarded by a lot of people.

Any thoughts?

I really liked Conviction despite it not really fitting the all-stealth Splinter Cell theme (it's more action-stealth). The campaign was fun, challenges were challenging enough but not too frustrating, co-op's fun as long as there's communication.

I only played the Double Agent demo, but I'm going to guess that it's the lesser of the two.

Amazon has established itself for games.

Their retail service is top notch and their digital services are catching up

They'll never be like Steam but they don't have to be, if they were they'd not cater to their entire demographic

I was specifically referring to their digital services but in general, Amazon wasn't always optimal for video game shopping. Amazon put forth effort to be where they are today. All I'm saying is that the effort's for a reason. Amazon wasn't always a great place to shop for video games and to make themselves competitive, they had to put in extra effort that other established retailers (like Gamestop) weren't.

Is there any sure fire way to get santa to show up in Renegade Ops? I'm awful at controlling it with the keyboard, when I die it locks my PC up, but I can't just idle or the time runs out. Suggestions?

Bought Jamestown DLC
Installed Jamestown to get achievement
Got Jamestown DLC as my present for the achievement

ARE YOU fuckING KIDDING ME?!?!? First game I get the whole sale and its the game that just 10 minutes ago I bought and used to get the gift in the first place!!!!

For me passing on Hard Reset also factors in the continental size of my backlog. I'd like to throw the devs a bone, but [see custom user title].

I just got mine after playing the first stage of coldstrike twice. Santa showed up towards the end of the stage, where the objective is to destroy the SAM sites.

I couldn't get used to the control, but when I fought the tanks, I stayed out of sight and shot them until they were dead. You will know you are hitting them since your score will keep on going up. If you are out of sight, they won't fire at you.

Anyways, just Hard Reset from Steam for me today, and a copy of Dead Island from Amazon. Quite happy with those, especially DI since I missed what turned out to be that price error when the sale first started.

Also, just a shout out of thanks to RollingSkull for going above and beyond to help me get a copy of The Ship. I've been interested in it since hearing about it in '05 (back in the heyday of the HL2/Source mod scene), and he was kind enough to help me get a copy even when he didn't need to. Definitely a "going the extra mile" thing, and it's super appreciated. Thanks man! :D This community's been great lately.

Just got the And Yet It Moves achievement which netted me a piece of coal. Crafted 7 coal into a 50% off Fallout: New Vegas coupon.

OK, my damages so far:

Hard Reset (RoW)
E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy
Torchlight
The Sherlock Holmes Collection
Neverwinter Nights 2: Platinum
Dungeons of Dredmor Pack with Realm of the Diggle Gods

Prizes won:

50% off Anomaly (from crafted coal)
Holiday Sale 2011 Gift: FEAR Complete Pack (ROW)
33% off Skyrim
25% off Valve game
6 coals left

Still prefer the Summer Sale's promotion more (I love exclusive DLC), but FEAR 3 almost makes up for it.
