Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Damn you've got some bad luck. I've crafted 14 coal and got 2 games for it.

I don't really understand the coupons. If you wanted any game you have a coupon you would just get it now instead of spending the same amount a month from now. Unless there will be another sale between January and March.

Not necessarily. I got a coupon for 50% off Kane and Lynch 2 today. Its on sale for 10.?? right now, usual price is 14.99. Coupon will make it 7.50 and if it happens to be in a one day sale between jan and March you can take the 50% off that price as well. Some coupons may be useful, but chances are the majority will get overlooked and forgotten about.

Ugh, played more Space Pirates and Zombies trying to get the achievement, I am not even going to bother here. This game went from ok, this seems cool to not fun at all. All I am doing is dying every 3 seconds and respawning ships until the enemy fleet is down... Not fun at all.
Trading.
i see, that sucks if only coupons :D

tempted to craft my coals (got 23 so far), but afraid to get coupons which i won't probably use unless they are 75% off.

You never know until you try.

You probably have a better chance of crafting coal and not getting a coupon than actually winning a prize with the coal. I would say hold onto it until the last day if you can find someone crazy enough to trade the coal for something substantial, and then just craft it all away. Some people have gotten lucky with crafts after all.

Played Rise of Immortals for 15 minutes and got coal. Much better than the coupons I've been getting.

I tried Spiral Knights, didn't get the snowy field and don't want to keep playing to get 200 crowns to try again.
IS Fallout 3 GOTY worth it? Has it ever been cheaper than $7.50 on steam or amazon?
I'm a bit biased since Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games ever, but yeah, $7.50 is a steal! If you think a first person shooter, steeped with RPG elements and 50s nostalgia, and an open world map full of surprises/scenarios sounds like your bag, check this thing out. It's also pretty weird. I once discovered a giant ant person and robot person arguing about if ants or robots were the superior species. In the end I killed both, took their armor and weapons, and became the superior species.

It's never been cheaper on Steam or Amazon. It probably won't be until Fallout 4 comes out.
Has anyone here crafted coal and NOT gotten coupons?
I've read a few posts where people got games. One guy crafted and got Rage. That seems like the best one so far.

Luckily haven't seen any deals I'm dying to have in the past two days. Downloading a demo of Arkham Asylum to see how it runs on machine/if I want it.

Achievement today brought coal. Yippee.
IS Fallout 3 GOTY worth it? Has it ever been cheaper than $7.50 on steam or amazon?
O yeah. As far as I know, this is the cheapest its been. It hasnt been less than 10 on Steam. Great deal.

Yeah I love the game, New Vegas didnt grip me as much as FO3. Everything about it is just up my alley. Cant wait to start another game.
Has anyone here crafted coal and NOT gotten coupons?
Me and my friend pooled our coal and he crafted Psychonauts and Costume Quest the two times we crafted coal. Kinda weird.

For anyone like me who got Killing Floor guest passes and might not know, they work for getting the holiday objective.
I see that a lot of you guys are crafting your coal -- why? It's better to trade your coal so you can get exactly what you want.
I tried crafting once and got a coupon. Saving or trading the rest.

I purchased Frozen Synapse a while ago but now I just won the game from an achievement (just my luck) so if anybody wants to trade me for it, give me a PM. I don't know what games are possible to win but if anybody has a list I'd appreciate it if you PM'd me a link! also excepting TF2 items (Hats, Metal, Unusual, Haunted Halloweens).

I also have 60% off Magicka coupon.

This almost seems like a weird social experiment Valve is doing. They're getting us to trade & barter during the Christmas Holiday by purposely giving us stuff we know we probably won't use but the incentive of trading with others (who have the same stuff we do) in an attempt to get something we actually want. :applause:
IS Fallout 3 GOTY worth it? Has it ever been cheaper than $7.50 on steam or amazon?
Of all the things that drive me crazy, this is the top of the list: People asking if a game that can provide over 60 hours of entertainment is worth more than $5? That crosses the line from being a Cheap Ass to being a Dumb Ass. This isn't $60 for an 8 hour experience; it's a minimum of 50 hours. Do the math; is $15 for 60+ hours of deep gameplay (not to mention all the mods) a bad deal?

I bought vanilla FO3 the day it was released, put about 55 hours into it and still haven't finished the main quest. I picked up the GOTY on Steam for $10 several months ago just to get all the DLC even though I'd already bought the discs for all but Mothership Zeta. All in I've spent $80 on Fallout 3 without regret, so when I see people hemming and hawing for a fraction of the price, it's drives me nuts.

I see amazon has ND and it activates on steam... but it only mentions the windows version on the site. Think I'll be able to download mac version also after I activate it on steam?

Debating on Nuclear Dawn, but I've been pretty set on not buying anything unless it's on my wishlist or it's a super good deal.

I want in on either the X-Series complete, or Terran+Albion.

Someone talk me into/out of it.

For reference, I have never played this series, nor do I really know what it is. Seems like a Space combat sim, and that's about all I know.

Nobody wants coal anymore on the steam fourms so I finally said **** it and crafted a 75% off call of duty 4 coupon. Could be worse I guess.

I am trying to download CrimeCraft GangWars.. and it's literally like 1mb away from finishing. It's "suspended". It happened earlier, so I stopped it.. started to download again..and here I am..waiting for this last mb to download -_-

Any help/suggestion?
Just wanna try this game and maybe get an achievement, lol
Uhhhhhhh.... I just went over the 250gb download limit/month for comcast.

DAMN YOU STEAM
I'm also on Comcast and I'm starting to get worried that I might be creeping up on that 250GB limit. How do you know if you've gone over? I've never been able to find a place where I can check my download amount on Comcast. It sucks that they not only limit you, but that there isn't an obvious place where you can check your monthly tally.

Same thing happened to my son. He tried to get crimecraft at least 5 times. I told em to stop after that. Couldnt get it to finish after many attempts. It downloaded fine for me the first time but gave me an error when trying to run it. So I had to verify game cache. Then, I went in, painfully did the achievement a FEW times, it never unlocked so uninstalled it.

Screw that game.

EDIT
Just log into your comcast account at http://www.comcast.com/

Click Users and Settings.

Cant miss it.

Damn. Missed out on Psychonauts but finally caved in on $5. I don't mind paying that little bit extra for it. I'm just happy I was able to get Jurassic Park on sale. My only games so far this sale.. hopefully it gets better in the next few days.

Thanks. That must be relatively new. I can recall looking for that this time last year and the didn't have a way to check your download totals.

Looks like I've still got about 60GB left. I'll have to keep that in mind as I decide if it's worth it to try and get some of the achievements from those free-to-play games. The only one that I already have downloaded is TF2 and some of those download sizes are huge.

You forgot about people with a job, family, life and that stuff you know ... someone that is responsible enough to not buy a game without proper research and forum lurking
If this was a response to a Skyrim post oh boy the flame I'd get, oh boy. As for now, you may continue with that interesting aggressiveness of yours.

You should probably check this out. Nuclear Dawn on Steam to be purchased for $3.99, or free if you have credit/gift cards on your account, with the bonus of $5 good towards games like The Witcher next month.

Or he could just wait, it's confirmed to be in one of the Indie Royale bundles in the future.
Or he could just wait, it's confirmed to be in one of the Indie Royale bundles in the future.
I was just gonna post about a rumor that it's coming up in a future Indie Royale bundle. It's been confirmed?

Thanks Sunghost. I'll be holding off until that particular indie bundle then. Thanks again guys and hope you all had a Merry Christmas.

I also use this direct link to the Comcast download total page. I don't know if there's a shorter URL or not, but it works for me.

I'll look forward to the next Indie Royale bundle - I believe it's due to start in about a week.

By the way, I want to announce that I have the following:

1) Capsized ($9.99, on sale for $2.50)
2) 33% off Valve
3) 75% off Risen
4) 50% off Duke Nukem Forever

I simply want one item:
1) Hydrophobia: Prophecy

If anyone's interested, PM me or befriend me on Steam. (My username's in my signature.)

Whoa, thanks from saving me from buying Nuclear Dawn. Was about to buy the game, but I always buy the bundles so I'm going to hold off. Hopefully the game will come out in time to do the achievement so I can get another piece of coal!

Any opinions on Demolition Inc.?

LOL so you guys know how I was having such a hard time with the Rise of the Immortals achievement last night? Decided to have another go at it and got it in my very first match. 20 minutes was all it took. I have no idea what I was doing different. Same strategy, characters, and mode. I'm still a complete noob to these types of games, but as much as I thought I didn't like it, I spent all day wanting to play it again.

All that for a piece of coal, by the way. Total of 12 now, but 5 after crafting.

It's a decent enough game. It's really more of a puzzle-style game. You're trying to figure out how to maximize the tools you have to set up chain reactions of cars and buildings blowing up. There are definitely far worse ways to spend $2.50.

The only issue I have is that it seems to require more horsepower than I have. The game is sluggish as hell on my 5 year old rig.

So, bought it, did the achievement, got another coal.

So, decided to craft. 50% off Worms Crazy Golf. Well, it is on my wish list, but it is already at that price. I guess I can wait and see if there is a deal on it.

The Atom Zombie Smasher achievement seemed a lot harder than it actually was. Got me coal. I'm now 0 for 17. All I've gotten is 13 coal and 4 coupons.
