Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I'm throwing out a recommendation for Bastion and Sonic Generations.
I think the critics were pretty harsh on sonic for not being nothing but classic. The game is great except for a few boss fights.

These are the times where I wish I had better computers. A 3-year old Macbook, a 4-year old Dell laptop, and a really old desktop. Somehow I doubt I'd be able to run Sonic Generations or Unreal Tournament 3 very well on any of them :(
i did that and it only un-installed it.
You can't really remove a game from your Steam Library;Since you purchased it, it's tied to your account. what you can do, if you don't like it taking up space, is to make a category games you want to hide, and set the game to that category. Always have the category collapsed, and it should do the same thing.
Best buy on King's Bounty? Should I get the Platinum pack, or just Armored Princess? Never played any of them before.
Definitely the Platinum Pack. "The Legend" is a good game on its own, and as you see below, I've been playing it a lot. So far have 30 hours into it and probably just scratching the surface.

You should get the platinum pack. Even if you never play the first King's Bounty, the 2nd game and its expansion cost more individually than if you just buy the bundle. You could say they're paying you $2.50 to take Legend, and that's a great deal.

Yeah, I created a category called "finished" where I put the games I'm done with.
Ah, I didn't realize that. Wish I'd known that sooner, oh well. It's ridiculous how difficult it is to log in though, it took me a while to even log in to the alternate server.
You actually don't even have to play bots. Generate a skirmish and give only yourself a machine gunner, give the AI no units, advance the turn and you win and get the achievement.

Look at my previous post, that's what I did. I just did it online rather than offline because I overlooked the "play offline" option.

Very newbish guy here on PC gaming, but I'd like to start more, especially after seeing these steam sales. My laptop is ok, it was designed for media and whatnot. It's a Samsung RF510, it'll run Crysis pretty decent, but it was a little sluggish with Deus Ex.

Can I upgrade my graphics card and CPU or would I be better off just investing in building my own gaming desktop?
Are you people with a ton of coal planning on using them to get a game or keeping them to enter the contest?
I am not going to use my coal for the contest, or at least as little as possible. I don't need every Steam Game, the Valve Complete pack and my Wishlist is mostly stuff that is like $9.99 or less (or should be). So I will try to get the most items possible.
What's the over/under on Bulletstorm? It looks like fun, but I'd like to hear a few things about it before I plunk down 5 bucks.
Played it for the ps3, so can't comment on how it runs on the computer. But its a fun game that takes itself seriously in the story but as far as the gameplay not so much. The whole pull of the gameplay is to kill with skill, meaning the more inventive you are in how you kill the enemies the more points you earn which allow you to buy ammo and weapon upgrades and points through out the game. I thought it was fun for what it was and I picked it up for $10, so at $5 it is a good deal.

You can't upgrade the Gfx card or CPU on a laptop. You will need to build your own gaming PC but for about $600-$700 (not including the cost of Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse), you can build a machine that can run any game with either mid (for the real graphics pushers) to high with no lag, no nothing.

These Steam sales and the fact that you got a fast gaming PC with a top of the line processor and like 4-8 gigs of ram is pretty sweet . There is a build your own PC help thread on the PC board, check that thread out.

Thanks for the review. Does any other CAG have an opinion on Bulletstorm? (I like a few viewpoints before I jump in, even if I'm interested in the game.)

As an optional quest, does anyone feel like posting the Objectives for today? I can't login due to the overload.

Has anyone been able to get Rise of Immortals to run for the achievement? When I try to log in to the social hub area, I always get "Server is currently unavailable".

Also any CAG opinions on the X Superbox? Is it worth the $9.99?

For $5, Bulletstorm is definitely worth it. I paid $40 for it not too long after release, and never felt particularly ripped off. I've considered $20 to be a good price point for the game, so for a quarter of that, even better. Honestly, it's a AAA shooter that will produce at least a few genuine F**K YEAH! moments when you nail some of the skill kills, or whatever they call that system.

Bulletstorm is about a 5 hour or so thrill ride. The skillshot kills are really fun and the game itself rewards you for getting the bloodiest, most absurd kill possible.

For $5 it's a great buy.
Any thoughts on Far Cry (1 or 2), Beat Hazard, Rock of Ages, and Bullet Storm? I already have the rest or am not interested.
Far Cry was pretty good IMO but 2 on the other hand really bored me. I was like "oh it looks like it's sorta realistic, this could be fun" but every friggin weapon jamming and catching malaria was so awful. Not to mention if you destroy your vehicle you're fucked and have to travel a very looooong way on foot.

But I bought Sonic Generations. For about $10 it looks a good deal and I've heard amazing things about the PC version.

How engaging is the story on Bastion? I'm tempted to bite. Has Bastion been in the Humble Bundle before?

Edit: It has. Which makes me feel bad for buying Bastion at $5 when I could have had those other games for $5-7.

Depends on how much you want to spend, you can build a pretty good gaming rig for just under
$1000.

Just finished the Rusty Hearts achievement for today, not particularly long. Took me about 1 hr from character creation to achievement pop.

Edit: On another not the Champion's Online achievement took a long time, not sure if that one will be a daily soon but from character creation to completion took a good 2 hours but I was lucky enough to find 2 people to help me and gave me all their presents otherwise it would have taken a lot longer. If this ends up being a daily achievement I would suggest passing on it as it takes some time to complete.

Nothing for me today.

Bastion has never been in an indie bundle..

Picking up Anomaly Warzone and Beat Hazard(heard it's a great game while under the influence).
Would get Farcry1+2 if it were a bundle now with the 3rd one coming up but I've been playing too many FPS and probably won't getting around to it anytime soon.

There is no reasonable way to upgrade your laptop hardware. You would be best served building a dedicated desktop. For as little as $500 you could have an adequate build to play most games. Not bleeding edge with everything maxed out, but for $1000 you would have something pretty nice.

Yep, I've never seen it in one and I've bought all of them I think. The fact that it's published by Warner Bros makes it very unlikely to ever be in one as well.

Sonic Generations is amazing. If you enjoyed Genesis Sonic games or good 3D Sonic, you will love it.

I'm not sure it will be in a bundle either. It's backed/published/somethingwhatchamacallited by Warner Bros.

I got the achievement, play as ichor (walking tree), and just buff your teammates and snare enimies, walk away. Your team should kill them and thats what you want.

I could be wrong but I don't think bastion has been offered in a humble bundle yet. (as was mentioned by like 10 other people, this is what happens when I wait to post ;) )
How engaging is the story on Bastion? I'm tempted to bite.
The story is almost non-existent. You wander around collecting these jewel things to restore the Bastion. Rucks, the narrator, tells you about stuff that used to be in the place you're currently wandering through. Each area is filled with bad guys and nothing more because the entire world was destroyed. Its one of the most overrated things I've ever played. Even at five dollars, I can't recommend it.

Bastion has not been, you are mistaken.

Yay, another -25% off Valve coupon today. I hope they don't do this coupon promotion again in this form. They should have had the system take into account what a person has in their catalog already. Then again, maybe it's a genius marketing move that has helped to propel their updated trading feature.

Anyway, I'm probably in for Rock of Ages today. C'mon Gundemonium Collection! I know you can go cheaper! :)
