Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Hey Spoony, slightly weird question to come out of the blue but it just struck me. Ages ago you mentioned you could buy the Hector pack for $10 for whatever arcane reason, is it discounted for you even more due to the sale?
There we go
I've actually found all of the ones I've played to be quite amusing. Spiral Knights wasn't too bad and I had a little bit of fun playing Rise of Immortals and CrimeCraft.

Nope. The extra discount was a limited time thing for people who already owned part or all of the series when the complete series was finally released. It's showing up as the regular sale price for me now.

I disliked Spiral Knights quite intensely. I'm going to try CrimeCraft, but I'm not holding my breath.

Spiral Knights was alright, I didn't hate it but it's not something I'd play again. The only reason I got the achievement for it was because I played it a few months ago, so I didn't have to waste my time obtaining crowns to get the achievement. Most F2P games suck, in general. There are a few great ones, but you can't really expect most of them to be good, considering you're paying nothing for them.

I won't ever play Spiral Knights again, but it's alright for what it is. The domination mode reminded me a lot of Fat Princess. I was surprised by CrimeCraft. The snowball mode was pretty fun.

another piece of coal for the beat hazard achievement, picked up bastion today.

have really enjoyed Anomaly try the demo and beat hazard(first steam sale).
Is Trine worth $3.40?
This may be blasphemous, but I never finished it. It was a good-looking game and had amusing mechanics, but Trine started to feel stale for me after a few hours. Trine 2 looks horribly pretty, though, so I may have to give the original another shot.

I paid $5 and don't feel ripped off, though. At $3.40, you have little to lose.

Just did the Rusty Hearts achievement. Took about 40 minutes and got a coupon for 50% off AI War: Fleet Command.

Oh well, now to wait for Rock of Ages to finish downloading. It looked out there, but it's made by the guys who did Zeno Clash and I liked that game so for $2.50 might as well give it a shot, besides free holiday achievement.

Would you say it's worth it to do that achievement? I'm not sure if I want to waste my time with it.
Would you say it's worth it to do that achievement? I'm not sure if I want to waste my time with it.
For Rusty Hearts, if you have the game already installed it isn't hard. It's like literally 3-4 quests in and I did it at level 3. All you have to do is pick the first guy with the sword, and just keep attacking and using your abilities to get a high combo.

http://steamtreasurehunt.wikia.com/wiki/Winter_Objectives#Objectives

That tells you how to do the Rusty Hearts achievement. If you got 40 minutes to an hour, it costs nothing to do it :D

Now if you want an extra shot at coal, or a prize that your own decision. I thought might as well because you never know, I got 3 games so far this sale so every shot helps.

So from waht I read earlier is the DOTA 2 gift kinda useless since it will be free to play or will it be like LOL where the purchased copies have better benefits? There may not even be answers to these questions yet.
So from waht I read earlier is the DOTA 2 gift kinda useless since it will be free to play or will it be like LOL where the purchased copies have better benefits? There may not even be answers to these questions yet.
People want to play it now, so it's worth actual cash now. Now.
Just played Bastion for an hour and so far it seems well worth the price for those on the fence.
I bought Bastion at full price when it came out and it is worth the 15 I paid for it! Definitely pick this up!

I'm still a bit torn on Bastion, but, if I don't pick it up this round, I'll certainly be doing so next time.

Then again, that's what I said during the Autumn Sale when it was $4.99.

Hrm... I got Bulletstorm, and am considering Bastion, but...

I don't know, I found Braid exceedingly irritating after two or three levels. I realize Bastion is hardly the same in terms of being "mostly art," but the Braid experience just made me second guess my impulses to buy well-received, pretty indie games.

Is the fighting pretty interesting or is it mostly hack-and-slash? Are the RPG elements fairly deep? Could I spend 30 minutes to an hour just looking at new equipment, skill trees, or something like that?

Yes, selling DOTA 2 now, buying/trading for it, that's entirely up to you.

There may or may not be a little bonus for Beta testers. I mean with League it was just a Ramus skin.

Probably King's Bounty and Test Drive for me today. I enjoyed the first Test Drive Unlimited, is this one equally good if not better? It looks like it should be.

It's great fun that brings a bit of strangeness and humor to the table. Absolutely worth it. It's just as strange as Zeno Clash.

I thought Braid was overrated as well. It became irritatingly difficult and more of an experiment than simply letting me enjoy using the unique gameplay mechanics.

I've only played Bastion as far as it takes to get the achievement, but I can tell right away that this is a game I will really enjoy. I love action/rpgs like Zelda and this is a really well designed version with a few twists of its own. The RPG elements look fairly light and they consist mostly of big, simple, colorful menus.

The only unique "hook" I can see some people finding annoying is the narrator who comments on your actions "Sir Robin-style" constantly. Right now its amusing - who knows what I'll think ten hours into the game?

I definitely recommend Bulletstorm at five bucks!

King's Bounty Platinum is awesome! I have put in over 40 hours in Legend so far.

Oops, I just read that in the article I posted. Normally, I read before I post my bad.

I'll pass on Rock of Ages because it has "indie bundle" written all over it.

Bizarrely, the one game calling to me today is Worms Golf. It looks like fun.
Options of Game of Thrones? Trailer looked interesting but is it any good?
Don't buy it on steam. It's $10 on amazon and comes with a steam key.

Just did the Rock of Ages achievement. I now understand this game. If anyone watched Monty Python's Flying Circus, those little cartoon like segments in between skits, yeah this feels like one of them and is awesome.

Just crafted 7 coal into the orange box, so that's defiantly going away, so if anyone wants it, PM me and you can have it for the Gundemonium Collection ($5 on Steam).

Crafted 7 coal and won shadow harvest, not really sure if I want it though but at least its better than a coupon. If anyone wants to offer a game they already have and won in trade for it pm me.

The last couple days I've just mostly been gifting my gf stuff and doing any lazy/easy achievements. So far I've just won a couple coupons I don't want (Valve 25% off, Arcania: Gothic 4 50% off), 4 coal, and Shadowgrounds & Shadowgrounds Survivor pack (decided to redeem that one at least).

...My gf, however, won the Witcher.

Anyway, in for Sonic Generations. Can't run it now, but I'm upgrading soon. And also sorta impulse bought Worms: Ultimate Mayhem. I have vague memories of enjoying a 3D Worms game at a friend's house.

Ah nice, had three objectives already completed when I logged in today. Yeah, I just got three more coal (16 coal, 2 coupons, 0 free games thus far), but at least I didn't have to spend a couple hours doing them...

Glad to see Bastion on sale again though. I bought the game during the Thanksgiving sale and loved the hell out of it. Now I'm going to buy what has to be one of the best soundtracks ever created for a videogame.
Could you ask for Dead Rising 2 for me? I know it's unlikely as Capcom took a look at the massive amounts of money games in this sale make at 75% off and said "meh", but you seem to have some pull. It could still happen.
I've been praying for a decent DR2 sale on Steam for the past few sales. It's sort of sad that I can get a better deal on it at Gamestop than I can on Steam. I've noticed Capcom's deals tend to be pretty crappy, and when they do participate in a daily deal, it's usually not for something you'd want: Like marking down Street Fighter 4, but not the Arcade Edition.

I might hit up the Spiral Knights achievement tonight, depending on how long it takes do download, quick question. How does one achieve crowns and what do I need 200 for?

Thanks
Is Trine worth $3.40?
Definitely, favorite game picked up from the 2009 holiday sale, I feel like there is a chance of it being a daily for $2ish though so wait till the end probably a good idea, oh right has an achievement doesn't it so definitely a good chance of being a daily deal.
Don't buy it on steam. It's $10 on amazon and comes with a steam key.
and now I have to consider it. Eh maybe another sale or maybe pick up the full Focus Home Interactive Complete Pack sometime.

After the tutorial, you need to enter Lockdown, which costs 200 crowns. The maps are chosen randomly, so you might not get the snowy map you need for the achievement. To get another 200 crowns, you need to play some missions at the Clockwork. And then try Lockdown again until you get the right map.

More details here:

You can achieve crowns by playing the dungeons. The first starting area dungeon should give you enough crowns to play 1-2 matches. You need the 200 crowns to enter Lockdown which is the crossed swords button on the top of the UI. You will not get snowball everytime since there are different maps in Lockdown.
I might hit up the Spiral Knights achievement tonight, depending on how long it takes do download, quick question. How does one achieve crowns and what do I need 200 for?

Thanks
You need 200 crowns to enter a MP pvp game in which you can throw snowballs at each other for the achievement. If you're unlucky you might need to enter two or three times (400/600 crowns)

You get crowns by strolling through some dungeon and killing baddies a couple of times. My advice is to do it solo (make sure the "party" is for invitees only) or ppl will steal the coins from your kills. 3 runs should do it.

Oh, and Trine is AWESOME. Trine 2 looks absolutely stunning btw.

Well, I've just played an hour or so of Bastion and I must say I'm absolutely loving it.

Beautiful, beautiful game. This could be a long night :D
