Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

I've got shadowgrounds and shadowgrounds survivor bundle i just won. Looking for trade for a game. Anything i don't have really
I haven't tried in a long time, but you used to be able to change your location to another country and get connected to their servers which may be better.
You can still do it I usually switch to the UK servers they are usually pretty dead.

I just crafted 7 Coal into a DOTA 2 Hardware Survey. I guess that's good but seems pretty common now. I'm still really confused by the prize.
I crafted 7 coal and literally won this game.

Edit: First to PM me gets this game gifted for free

Edit 2: OMFG, third screenshot: Las Angiles Lekers.
I don't know why, but I'm giggling so much right now. Sorry for laughing at your expense!

EDIT: Going to try the Bulletstorm demo, Anomaly demo, and KB: Armored Princess demo now. I'll do the Rise of Immortals Achievement tomorrow. I'm still on the fence about Far Cry and Rock of Ages, though I'm probably going to get the latter.

EDIT 2: AHHHHHHAHAHAHAHA!!! This is from their website:

Lol, at least the coal was "free".

And it took 21 minutes to give it away for free. That's got to be a record
Quick question, does the Killing Floor achievement require you to kill all of them in one match? Or is it cumulative?
I think its cumulative but its easy to get in one match just play on easy. You should get it by wave 4.

cumulative, It count if you just play it on easy mode.

I think you got the 1 game that's worse than most of the coupons. No one would want that game tied to their steam account!

Still not as bad as mine. I crafted 7 and got a steeeeeeeewpid coupon. 50% off Droplitz. No one wants that. Lesser value than 33% off valve. :drool:blah

fuck

First Steam purhcase this sale: Sonic

Couldn't resist for $10.19

will go in my backlog, but it's shorter than just about anyting else so I see it as a quick run through when I'm not feeling like anything else.
Been playing Bastion, great game, thats my opinion. The soundtrack sounds amazing as well.....debating if I should buy it. Any opinions?
I just turned it on after buying the pack this morning. It's pretty awesome thus far.

That and Vegas Make It Big!

Sorry to the people who won that and Basketball Manager 2010.

Bastion was also one of my surprise favorites of 2011. As for the soundtrack... well, I loved the music throughout most of the game but I never felt like I wanted to pay for the soundtrack... but the last 30 minutes or so of the game pretty much forced me to buy the OST without any questions :) The ending music alone is worth the price of admission, and the rest of the great music is just icing on the cake.

After completing 14 objectives and cashing in some coal, the only games I got were Vegas Make It Big.... and TF2 guest pass :(

Slow downloads, buggy store, and unavailable games. fucking Steam. I was playing Killing Floor just fine and now I can't find any servers.

I was humming the Bastion soundtrack for days, and after passing on the soundtrack edition now I think I'm gonna pick it up.
I just read somewhere that by creating an account for Amazon with a fake US address, it would let buy get the downloadable games on the website.

Anyone knows where can I check for those games which can be activated on Steam? Only interested on those that can be activated on Steam.

I remember seeing Dungeon Defenders a few days ago, don't know if the deal is still up, now there is the Sonic one which is cheaper than the one on Steam.
I'm in Canada and tried this before, it always blocks me and just doesn't work. I tried proxies and just couldn't get it to happen, gave up.

Ugh, been trying to download Bulletstorm all evening but the speed is at 0k/s half the times I check.

You'll probably find people willing to give you coupons for coal. It's when you enter the coal for games trades that you enter a rabbithole you may not come out of.
is there much worth to coal?

thinking I don't want to craft mine and I'd rather trade away for coupons to things I might want.
There is, but it's getting lower every day, so if you want to trade it you should probably attempt doing so now. It's more difficult now to trade coal for games than it was a few days ago.

Ok, I've spent way too much time installing Rusty Hearts to get the achievement than it seems to be worth. After installing, it immediately wants to patch the game. Man, this sucks.

Not to mention Perfect World takes a while when you register your account to send you an activation e-mail. While I haven't played every F2P games on Steam, the ones I have have this problem where it has a custom launcher along with the steam download that patches itself :bomb:.

Actually, that might not be a problem for me, since I once had a Perfect World account a few years back. (I had a coworker playing on there for a while.)

heard a lot of good things about Bastion, but man, after playing it for about an hour, I was blown away by the narration and soundtrack...all really beautiful.

After about three days of just trying to level up my Dungeon Defender Character from scratch and getting to level 46, I just finished the holiday map by myself. Oh god, what an awesome little game. I had fun...... going to kill myself for doing that. Never again ...... (Summer Sale Event).......

Nice traded this on the Steam Forums for Jedi Knight Collection + Call of Cthulhu.

wow. I still cant do that with a partner. However I am only level 20 or so.

Rise of Immortals has one of the best launchers ever. Tells you it's downloading an update with a percentage complete. Doesn't tell you how big or what you are downloading .

How interesting.
Steam just dropped two identical items in my inventory, not related to an achievement.

both of them are called "The Ship - 2 Pack Gift" and they look like this:

I own a copy of The Ship, and in the past I've been given guest passes to share, but never actual copies of the game to share, let alone two complete copies (I have two of what you see in the picture). Kind of cool. Might make up for all the crappy coupons I've been receiving.

Very cool, that looks like a fun game. This is the first I've heard of group packs being given out.

The Ship was recently purchased by a new company. They are doing this as a promo to get people back into the game. Anyone that bought it should be getting the extras to gift out to friends. Anyone that buys it before the holiday sale ends will also get them.

It's awesome that you won The Ship. Every copy of that games comes with two additional copies. When you gift those copies to other people, each of those people will also get ANOTHER gift copy and it ends there. Still, that's a total of five copies.

Cool looks like an interesting game. I said earlier in the thread that I would be interested to try it but even at its low price I'm not sure I would ever actually "play" it.

It's basically where Assassin's Creed stole its' multiplayer from. It's pretty fun. Given the way the gift passes work (as mentioned, you essentially get five) it's a pretty big bargain because you can manipulate your friends into playing it with you.

I remember that discussion in this thread. I was the guy who pointed out the origin of the game being the live-action game "Killer", or "Assassin".

What pleases me most is that I'm being retroactively included to give gifts away, even though I bought it years ago. I never really got much value out of the game because it was all bots by the time I got around to playing.

I heard from elsewhere that The Ship had been bought by another company so to gin up support they were doing a "buyers get two gifts, those who get those two gifts get one gift each" thing to spread The Ship love and reinvigorate it.
Never heard of The Ship either, but it does look interesting. How long does each game last?
Depends on the map, and how many people are in a particular game. I'd say 8-30 minutes is the norm, but I'm no expert.
