Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

The Jedi Knight series for 5 is well worth it and Republic Commando is great as well
Will probably pick up Sequence, it looks charming. Need thoughts on the following:

Path to War DLC for Red Faction: Armageddon
PoP Forgotten Sands
Solar 2
I super enjoyed PoP Forgotten Sands on a console. As far as the reborn PoP games it was on par or better than Sands of Time for me.

The Jedi Knight games are great, however Dark Forces II is pretty outdated graphically, but I still loved it when I played through it years ago.

I dig Republic Commando...Wish they would make a follow up!!! The Controls are kinda wonky for a FPS compared to the ones that come out today but I was enjoying it (still need to finish).

Nothing for me today, have DOW II, Terrarria, Fear 1,2 Sequence and everything else doesn't interest me. Still waiting for that damn Gundemonium collection because it has holiday cheevos on it so I am assuming a daily on it.

All of the star wars games on sale have their appeal but most are older.

Here's my contrarian opinion on Republic Commando: it's not very good. At all.

It's incredibly, INCREDIBLY repetitive, with only a handful of enemy types, few of which are enjoyable to fight against, and more of which are incredibly annoying to fight against. There's very little variety to the game, and each planet stretches on for far, far too long. The tactical portion can be handy, but chances are you'll leave your friendly AI set on aggressive for 90% of the game. I just cannot emphasize enough how utterly repetitive it is. One sequence in a hangar sees you doing the exact same objective in three more hangars before the mission finally ends.

It's not very good. At $2.50, sure, pick it up for the cool helmet HUD and the Star Wars-y ness of it, but I think you'll be hard pressed to actually finish it.

I just picked up KOTOR...it's been so long since I played this game and I actually regret selling my original Xbox copy...pretty sure I sold it to my local Gamestop for $2.49...ah if only the younger me knew what I knew now

Has anything been a Daily Deal after being an objective? I've been eyeing the Dejobaan Complete Pack, and $5 is certainly a fair price, but if it's going to get cheaper...

I am so tempted to buy the Gothic series for $12.49, but I already own Gothic 2 & 3 on disc and at GOG. I wish Gothic 1 would go on sale on GOG... (they are all still on my backlog...)

I wish there was a demo of Cities in Motion. It's too different of a game to drop any amount of money on it. I could try it and find it terribly boring. Maybe that's WHY there is no demo though.

I thought you could buy them individually ?

you did miss it, I think it was $5 on the first or second day of the sale

Think long and hard about how repetitive ALL shooters are. And also how varied they really are. This game might not be the most varied but at least it has more than Call of Duty's one enemy type.

Also, it has a horrible ending. It isn't one of those it is a shooter who cares about the story. It genuinely has one of the worst endings ever.

Gothic 1 is not for sale on Steam. Plus, I personally like GOG's model more than Steam for the games they have (DRM-free and no big client to download the games and other data).

How likely does it seem that Trine 2 would be a daily deal? I wasn't expecting one for Arkham City or Skyrim but I was proven wrong. Trine 2 came out after both of those, though. I'm trying to budget (haha!).

But at least Call of Duty changes scenery relatively often. Republic Commando keeps you in the same location for literally hours on end, and more often than not, the objective is exactly the same time and time again. As for Call of Duty's enemy variety, yeah, it blows, but at least they die quickly compared to Battle Droids and freaking containers that SPAWN Battle Droids. Or how about *SPOILER* Grievous's bodyguards? They were bullet sponges through and through.

I'm on the fence with this as well. I'd like to just buy it today to get the achievement, but the potential of it going on sale is holding me back. I do have both games on my wishlist though, so I'll have to see.

Just bought Unreal Tournament 2k4, Red Faction, and Gothic Universe Edition (includes Gothic 1,2,3) for $11.xx

6 games averaging at under $2 a piece is ridic

The devs said it wasn't going to be on sale till spring time in the Steam forums for it.

Should I finally bite on Dawn of War (the original?). I mull this purchase each sale...backlog is huge, but I love RTS games, and for some reason never picked up any Dawn of War. I hear the story is really good (and I'm a sucker for stories) - so that's why I was going to start with the original.

Any thoughts? And any comments on the story tie-in of the expansion packs? i.e. Am I missing anything if I play DoW Gold, and then go right to DoW II?

I should add I have zero interest in multiplayer for either DoW I or II - I still get my online RTS fix from Starcraft.

Has Unreal Tournament 2004 been less than $3.74 for this sale? I want to pick it up before the sale is over just for a few mods.

Today seems like a good day to remind people that the Sequence dev is giving out Steam keys for the game until the end of the year to people who have a NeoGAF account. If you don't have one yet, don't bother. Registration is free but approval takes quite awhile.

I agree that scenery doesn't change and that some things are bullet sponges. Although if you knife more you will kill things faster. Because knives do more damage than bullets. But it is still refreshing when going to Call of Duty to Call of Duty again to then go to this game. Almost all shooters require you to be on the front line, but not in this one (except for a portion of some levels). I love sitting back and letting my friends to all the work.

I feel that this game is just a change of pace in a very bland genre.

And it does depend on how you play the game. My brother tried doing everything for himself and didn't use the squad. He really didn't like the game.

And I also tend to have a problem when people complain about repetitiveness. I came to the realization a long time ago that every game is repetitive. No matter the game, it is. It is only up to how much we can ignore and look past the repetitiveness that really matters. I mean when was the last time you heard someone complain how repetitive a racing game is? Never, and why? Because the people that play it don't care and ignore it, but those games are really, really repetitive.

Definitely not saying the game is perfect, but I do love it. And I most likely love it because there are not many squad based shooters and so it is unique. And I would rather have a breath of fresh air than a breath of stale air the continues to be around since 2007.

To be fair though the ending was set up for more books, games, and comics to continue after it. The games never saw the light of day but the books just ended recently.

Unfortunately a good story can be one that ends, but can continue. This one just fell off the face of the earth NEEDING something else to end it.

For example the original Star Wars. That movie had a great ending and one that concluded stuff. But it didn't end every single thing so it could continue. This game concluded NOTHING.
Jade Empire, when will you ever go on sale?
I can't imagine what it would take to make this damn game go on sale. :whistle2:#

Woah. Just received the Valve Complete Pack as a gift for doing the recommendation achievement! As I already have all of these games from other sales over the last year, this pack will be going into the CAG Fund for Childs Play drawings.

Well damn that is real nice of you! Serious, no sarcasm, thats a nice thing to do
I tried the jumping over the pillars trick but the game just crashes once I touch bandage girl (every single time).... looks like I'll have to do it legit, which kinda sucks since those SMB levels are really, really hard
That is really odd. Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling the game? It really shouldn't do that.
