Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

DS1 on the PC was eh, but DS2 is solid.

If you are interested in the DLC stay with console. The developer stated they will never release it on PC. The other complaint I have heard is the PC version has some of the weapons/item dlc unlocked by default in the latest patches. Many say it makes the game too easy.

DS1 worked fine for me once I fixed the vsync issue. (trick is to disable vsync in game or suffer horible mouse lag and enable it in the nvidia control panel or ati etc.)
The SPAZ achievement is also kind of annoying. I played for about an hour, trying to kill enemies near each other so Santa Claus would come and collect the cookies and milk. But you can only control one ship at a time, and you need two ships, and the second one just goes around collecting the drops. And the controls should be better. It's one of those up goes forward types of games, with the mouse as a pointer, and that makes it annoying to shoot.
Try replacing that second ship with one that has weapons. I have a feeling that it's still the start Gopher ship thing that doesn't have any. If you hit space near the top of the screen you can also change how your AI teammates react. You can even select your ships and tell them what to attack on that screen by right clicking enemy ships.

Woo! Finally won a game after 34 objectives completed! Even though I already own it (Monday Night Combat), it will be a perfect gift for the roomie since we were looking for something new to play together.

Anyone looking to do the DD Xmas Achievement? I have a level 50 huntress, was close to soloing it last night but got dced from the servers. It was a little hairy though so I doubt I'd get through it completely on my own. Anyone else have a character and still need to get this finished? Add me on steam

Question on Dungeon Defenders DLC.

If I by the Lost Eternia Shards Complete DLC does that unlock all current and future DLC for the game?

Or will I still have to buy other DLC separate like the New Character's Pack and Holiday missions?

Thanks

Folks, I'd like to trade 33% Valve, 50% Serious Sam HD: Second Encounter and 50% Atom Zombie Smasher, would gladly take coal for them, please send me a PM or add me in steam (HenryRequiem) if anyone is interested

Man with everyone getting the ship I am more and more interested in it. Hopefully, I can get it for free before the sale is done.

I had one person ask for my extra copy, but I haven't heard back. If that doesn't go through, you've got yourself a copy.

I'm guessing there is an Episodic DLC content pack called the Eternia Shards that is in 4 (?) pieces. Buying the complete will most likely only get you those 4 packs and unlocks Nightmare difficulty. You'll still have to buy other DLCs (however if you play them while the event is running, I believe you get them for free, at least the holiday ones).
They got a newer save working, I can vouch that it works. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=27706068&postcount=31
Worked for me, too, and I've got the coal to prove it. Also got coal for the TF2 gift pickup. Bother.

The wiki for the TF2 is a little incomplete, so here's what I did:

1. Make sure devconsole is enabled with "-console" in the Launch Options.

2. Start a server in any mode and map; I used "itemtest", whatever that is. Set number of players to 1 or else you can't start playing.

3. Once round starts, enter "mp_disable_respawn_times 1" (without quotes) into the console and press Enter. You'll get a message in the game echoing the change. YOU MUST DO THIS EVERY TIME YOU START A NEW ROUND.

4. Using the "bind k kill" command (which carries over from round to round), kill yourself and you should see a present pop up in the room with you. Respawn and grab it.

5. After two gifts, more won't appear, so end the round and start up a game again as before. Re-enable the spawn timer command by just pressing the up arrow to make it show. Kill yourself. Get that third gift to collect your coal.

A lot of people have been saying that ROI is a cheap knockoff of some other games that they say are a lot better. I've been insanely addicted to ROI since playing it only for the achievement -- so what are these other games that are the "better" versions of it? Because I've been really liking this game.

League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth are probably the more popular free standalone ones.

I've been playing Majesty on my phone since the big Android sale and really enjoying it. Saw the PC versions are pretty cheap on Steam being $1.99 for Majesty Gold and Majesty 2 Complete for $7.99. Any thoughts and/or opinions on these?

This is correct. Buying the Complete Pack gives you Part 1 now and the other three parts that are scheduled to release in January, February, and March. It also has the bonus of unlocking Nightmare mode now. The other DLCs are sold separately.

I have the first one and it is very similar to the phone version. I asked about pt 2 last year and was told to avoid it because the company revamped the game, taking out everything that made the first game so fun.

Thanks! After perusing the Steam forums, it sounds like the second one is incredibly difficult. Looks like just Majesty Gold for me.

Does anyone have any information about the holiday achievement for Dungeon Defenders.

Basically what I am wondering is does anyone have a map or a guide for trap placement? I have access to all of the traps although I only have three players so traps wont be a problem. I am having trouble building and keeping a defense.
Whoever decided the Revenge of the Titans achievement needs punched in the face. Not even gonna bother with it anymore. Hopefully someone comes up with a save game or something.
ya it's tough. been trying to watch some videos to get the hang of it. the thing that throws me off is your buildings aren't immune to friendly fire. so i always end up blowing up my own stuff. :(

This is 100% correct. Majesty one is amazing, or at least was in its day. I bought the game the day it come out, in one of those old school big boxes. Majesty 2 is garbage. Or I thought so at least.

I had a crack at this earlier on with Provis and it turns it's not quite as BOSHBOSHKILLBOSH as I'd hoped it might've been.

The map is complicated by the fact that there's 3-4 trees (I didn't get an accurate count) dotted around, and you never know which ones you'll have to deliver presents to on that wave.

Ordinarily I'd set traps/auras/towers/barricades up to cover each and every tree. However, on the Xmas map you're only allocated 40 Defense Points, which basically equates to around 10 traps/towers/auras etc.

In my head, I reckon the best tactic would be to just defend the trees that are active on that particular wave. It would mean a lot of selling/replacing towers, but that's not such a big deal; it's just time-consuming.

I'll try it tomorrow when I'm not so sleepy from a) booze and b) Harry Potter marathons and report back.

p.s. To answer Honeybaked Ham's earlier question, I think a good awareness of the level layout is just as important as levels, but 30 seems to be pretty low. There's a lot of monsters out there to deal with. They may have low HPs but there's lots and lots and lots of them. That said, a group of 3-4 30somethings would be able to manage it with decent co-ordination.

p.p.s. Holy unnecessarily complicated post Batman!

Ignore this guy, he talks bollocks.

Got a new idea. Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion!

SPAZ looks interesting, but also looks like its going to be in an indie pack sooner than later, so I'll pass.

Got a few achievements I still gotta do, including the Retribution one if someone is up for it sometime on Thursday. PM me and let me know!!

Not much for me today, I might grab both of the indie Serious Sam games though. I have enjoyed the series in the past and they look like they could be fun.

I actually bought Majesty during the summer sale because the game and artstyle intrigued me.

I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing though and it kept crashing on me. So I can't say I like the game much.

Also it's probably just me, but this sale has been pretty lame so far in my opinion. Except for Skyrim, that was unexpected.

So I just built a new rig this year and most of my games are older. I've got a nice GFX card and 8gb of mem and want to give the sucker a good test - any high graphic games people recommend for that purpose? Preferably that might be a daily deal? I've heard the Crysis games are pretty demanding, have those been on sale yet?

I've got a nice GFX card and 8gb of mem and want to give the sucker a good test - any high graphic games people recommend for that purpose? Preferably that might be a daily deal? I've heard the Crysis games are pretty demanding, have those been on sale yet?
They have not been on sale yet - I recall them going on sale a winter sale or two ago - but honestly can't remember them going on a deep discount in the past 12 months since EA and Steam decided to stop playing nice.

At $15 for the maximum edition - you really can't go wrong, it's one of the most critically acclaimed PC shooters to come around in years. And yes - it will allow your new rig to stretch its legs quite nicely.

False - they are on sale for 50% off right now.

Crysis 2 is not on Steam, but the original and Warhead both are.

How long does it take to level a new guy in Dungeon Defenders?
I had the game, but never played it. lol. Was gonna check it out for this achievement, but everyone on the forums seem to say it's way too hard.

Metro 2033 is supposed to be quite the rig killer.

Re: Dungeon Defenders Xmas achievement

The "Recommended level: 30" for the Xmas map is quite quite quite misleading. We just managed it with a level 28 and a level 70. The positioning of towers etc. isn't too bad, you basically block off every entrance (posted our solution here - http://steamcommunity.com/id/Flowette/screenshot/631860948262784264), but the boss spawns with around 900k HP. Given that all of your towers disappear just before he spawns, you're kind left with not much time to get ready.

I'd recommend that if you want to go for this, you do so with at least one experienced player. I just think that this is quite a harsh map and even on "Easy" it's pretty hard work.

Fun, though ;)

Play it if you want to play it. Don't play it just for the achievement, you'll get frustrated pretty quickly :)

Yeah.. was able to run a couple of brand new characters with the help of another CAG. So if you have some high level people willing to help you out, you can get the achievement no problem and you'll get about 14 levels or so in the process.

Metro 2033 as someone mentioned. Also, The Witcher 2 on ultra settings (already on sale, though) and Batman: Arkham City on DX11 (also already already on sale) in case those come around again. Crysis: Maximum Edition will be on sale at some point for $10, and it's still a good system tester.
