Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Max possible on one account without trading is 72. Now they could have traded it legitimately, but it seems doubtful. I mean who would trade 19 coal? Oh and that 72 is if every achievement netted you a coal too.

Bought Universe Sandbox because I've legitamately been wanting it for awhile. I boot it up and start messing around and spend like a good 30 min just having fun. Then I remember to do the achievement. After that I get more into it just messing around with all the cool stuff in the simulator.

I then finally remember to go check what I got for the achivement...
50% Universe Sandbox >_<
Steam, you kill me, heh.

The second worst thing about the gift pile is it's killed a lot of talk about under the radar games. In the summer sale there seemed like a lot more talk about games that weren't dailies. With the gift pile we are mostly talking about achievements and virtual carbon.

You know the saddest part will be, come January 2nd, the people who were adamant about not crafting any coal and who don't win anything and are left with nothing ... that's the worst thing ;)

With the hundreds of millions of coal (entries) out there, there is very little chance of winning any of those prizes at the end. I would craft instead. Keep one coal just to have at least one entry in.

It's a trap guys! He wants everyone to do this so he has 10000 entries into the contest!

I didn't craft any coal. I was too afraid of wasting 7 coal for a coupon. I traded most of my coal and got a very nice return. Much better than the Summer Sale, where you could only get Alien Breed 2 and cheap dlc.

Coal has lost a lot of value though. Mostly because of scammers who have boatloads of coal.
You shouldn't be placing your towers to stop the minions in the same spot you place towers to stop the snowman. If you set some towers at the minion spawns and the rest at santa then that should do it.

Of course when I did it I had some level 70 help so the snowman died in roughly 10-12 seconds.
just started up a new game labeled it like need super mega dps to kill boss, and a bunch of ppl joined and it went pretty fast and they all were cool competent players. more cooooooal for my troubles tho. :(

I've grown comfortably accustomed to the disappointment of not winning big prizes. What I'm not accustomed to is the disappointment of crafting 7 hard earned coal into a Kane and Lynch coupon. I'll gladly take the ol' familiar disappointment on this one.

Traded my DOTA 2 for 40 coal. Also, my gf and a friend gave me their coal. ;)

I'm also thinking the 50 billion indie bundles has killed most of the talk about under the radar games too considering most of those games were usually indie.

Most of that tends to happen at the tail end of the sale as everyone knows it's mostly a good idea to wait until all daily deals have been revealed to begin buying all of the non-featured games. In less than seven hours we see the last round and I know I'm definitely hitting the store to see what else I can find. I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone else's suggestions as well.
I'm also thinking the 50 billion indie bundles has killed most of the talk about under the radar games too considering most of those games were usually indie.
This. That used to be my favorite part of these sales, picking up a few under the radar indie games for cheap. Now I just wait for them to be in a cheap bundle.
I passed on Portal 2 when it hit a daily, because I was sure that I would win it. Then as the coal started to pile up I hit the forums looking for someone who was looking to trade a copy of it. I lucked out, found someone who was willing to trade it for a $5 game on their wishlist. So, I actually saved $2.50. If you search the steam trading forums and the ones here you might get lucky.
I'll take a look around and hopefully find someone willing to do that, or something similar.
So I took your advice and leveled an apprentice to 30. I have no trouble getting to the final boss wave solo. However, I don't understand how you solo that final wave with the boss included.

You have 60 seconds to place towers which is rough. I managed to cover all the areas. However, the minions don't stop coming and the boss just comes down with all the minions and takes out my towers and a flood ensues.
I saw you got the achievement done, but figured I'd post how I'd recommend doing it, in case you wanted to know.

The key to making this boss trivial is realizing the one major flaw with this boss: He makes killing you his top priority, and if kited to right outside your spawn, he'll sit there and wait to kill you over and over again and completely ignore Santa and your towers. If you've been upgrading your weapon damage, you can get around 2-20k damage in-between deaths, depending on how much actual dps you do and how long the boss toys with you before killing you. If the boss actually goes back toward killing your towers, just run up to him and touch him, then run back. If he follows you, then great. Kite him backwards (LoS snowballs if necessary) and continue slowly killing him. If not, then try it again. If you happen to have some DU available and pick up a little mana when you respawn, try to put up a quick tower, as there's a moment's respite where he won't interrupt you. This is the safe, but very slow way to kill him.

If you feel confident about being able to peel him away from your towers, you can use the (slightly) faster method of kiting him to your tower nest and juke his attacks for as long as possible while your towers whittle him down. Keep some distance between him and your towers so that he doesn't AoE everything to death. When the nest has taken serious casualties, kite him up the ramp, die, then sprint down after respawning and quickly rebuild it, and repeat. If you can't kite him away from the towers, then simply build more towers while he's distracted killing your other towers. They don't need to face a certain direction as long as they're facing him and aren't the first thing directly in the creep's path. You have an endless supply of mana and as long as you don't stand (or build) directly in the path of creeps, they generally ignore you (and/or your tower).

For tower layout, you want to cover the right side of the tree and the area on top of the south stairs. A group of 2x magic missile and 1x lighting tower should be enough to cover each entrance, although to be safe, you may want a fireball tower in each group as well (the extra tower would primarily be for peace of mind). This leaves you with 24 DU (assuming you put up fireball towers) with which to defend against the snowman. Put up a pair of magic missile towers a couple of inches to the left of Santa and facing left. Those are for emergency defense, should there be any leaks. With your remaining 18 DU, move to the bottom of the ramp and place a mix of magic missile and fireball towers pointed north (any combinations works. I prefer 3x fireball and 1x magic missile). These towers will defend against the waves coming from the north, as well as provide additional snowman dps should you desire it (if you are going to use the towers for DPS, I recommend taking those two fireball towers you have defending the perimeter and moving them to the nest).

Oh god oh man!
I remember the time when I didn't even care about indie bundles, until that crazy funny Humble Indie Bundle 4 video on youtube convinced me, said to myself: ''oh well .. a decent amount of people is expecting it on the forums so I guess $5 wont kill me'' ... and DAMN the games are fun and totally worth it, looking at you Cave Story+!!!

I have just finished the Jamestown achievement, and expected more coal and useless coupons, but instead got a direct 33% discount on Skyrim, fate much?
I'm oficiallly in love with the good indie games, they even get my AAA titles cheaper for me! xD (yeah missed the Skyrim sale because I was short of funds)

Long time lurker, first time poster. Registered to thank someone who handed out a HIB 3 key that I claimed, but because of the no post for 48 hours rule I now forgot who it was. Thank you, anonymous benefactor. :) Of course, later I realized that I got the HIB 3 as a bonus with my HIB 4 purchase. So, I'm passing it on - hope a CAG gets it:

HIB 3 steam key: RL6C0-VTHKH-Z5QPQ

Not a bad sale overall. Luckily, I had most of what I wanted from previous ones, so my wallet doesn't hate you guys so much. :) 22 achievements and no games, though. :(

I'm having difficulty with the Hard Reset achievement for some reason. I only used the N.R.G weapon mode, and got through the first/second levels, but nada. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

But thank God for the FOV setting in the menu. I rarely get motion sick from an FPS, but the FOV was so goddamn low that I felt legitimately ill after the first level. Makes me wary of playing it more.

I'm so annoyed at Binding of Isaac right now.

I love the game otherwise, I've owned it since it first came out.

I've officially "beaten" it 5 times now. I've unlocked all the characters, I've picked up most items and... NO KRAMPUS!!

Just venting.

I just wanted to point out that, while it's tradition to have a recap on the final day, we don't know for sure until it happens. If you're waiting for the last day, you may as well wait until the actual last day.

Still hoping that we see the Gundemonium trio show up today. It has achievements, so chances seem good.

I got Portal 2, 25% off Valve title coupon and 50% off Divinity 2: Dragon Knight Saga coupon to get rid of if anyone interested.

I already got Portal 2 on the PS3 and PC, and i don't care for any of the coupons.

I've got a free Hacker Evolution Duality gift for anyone who PMs me. I won it from a cheevo and already have the game. It also doesn't trade for anything.

EDIT: Already given away

I'm looking to pick up a copy of Portal 2, take a look at my inventory and see if there's any combination of stuff you'd like?

It didn't work with me when i used that electric weapon, I had to play the first level twice and only use the enviromental electric kills instead. That worked for me.

You have to get the Blaster upgrade for the N.R.G.

Bah. Someone already got it.

Was able to trade some coal and two cheap games in my inventory for the Fallout Collection! Score, I've wanted these games for a while. The price of coal is so arbitrary, so I had no idea what to offer.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. Finally managed to get enough coal to craft. And I got something worse than a coupon.

A TF2 HAT. A NONTRADABLE HAT. TO A GAME I DON'T PLAY.

What's the hat? I didn't know that was possible!

I don't think you can get hats from crafting, just from completing achievements or playing other games. I started playing TF2 for the winter objective and was given 9 hats because I own other Valve games.

Actually just looked it up in the tf2 forum. Looks like you can get it both ways. They are tradable if you have tf2 premium (which requires you to buy at least a $0.99 item from the in-game store.)

It's looking like todays deals are:
Bioshock 1 & 2
Grid
Rochard
Counter Strike
Magicka
Hoard
Heros of Might and Magic
Dead Island
Hitman

So far. I probably missed something, like I think BIT.TRIP was in there too.
I don't think you can get hats from crafting, just from completing achievements or playing other games. I started playing TF2 for the winter objective and was given 9 hats because I own other Valve games.
I had really, really hoped this was the case but then... well, I crafted 7 coal, got the little pop up saying I had a new item in my inventory but couldn't find anything. I restarted Steam and noticed that I now had Steam (10) and Team Fortress 2 (4) instead of (3). So I looked in there and lo and behold. =/

If you buy a .99 item from the store (as someone said above me) you could probably trade it for some good stuff. Just watch out because there are gonna be a lot of offers for more hats or metal...
Very weak end to the sale if thats the list for today.
I agree, and the prices are pretty much the same as the Summer Sale. Still, I know some people have been holding out for Rochard, so today's their day

For those of you with hats, if you want something good for it (if there's even offers like that out there) trade it now instead of later. Items drop in value really fast. The TF2 economy moves extremely fast.
Steam plz make Dead Island $10 k tnx bye.
Dead Island is $19.99 as the Daily Deal. Was better at AMZ earlier in the week.

I know it is on my list. I also figured Hoard was going to be up, since its achievement hasn't appeared so far.
Hoard will probably be my only buy for the day. I loved the demo on PSN as a "pick up and play" sort of game. Not that I need any more of those. :\
yeah, but do you buy a single copy for $2.49, or get in on a 4-pack for $2.55 each??

I am new to Steam and Humble Bundles so I have a quick question related to this sale. Once a humble bundle offer is over than that bundle is gone forever (except for the inclusion of the previous bundle with the newest bundle offer perhaps)? There are a handful of indie games I put on my wishlist that are currently 75% off and I am trying to decide if I should just buy them now or wait to see if they show up in future bundles.
