Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

This is the only way any coupon would be decent. I have a 10% off DeepSilver and 10% off id that seem useless even if they could be used during the sale.

Or you know if the games are part of dailies, week long, weekend, or special sales. These coupons will stack unless they state that they can't. So these coupons can essentially continue this steam sale for about 2 more months.
Is it worth picking up Magicka at this price? Looks sort of fun.
to me it's a really boring single player game. however, with friends it is worth some laughs because friendly fire is on. :p

I will be crafting my coal. I haven't gotten anything I wanted through crafting but it is stuff I can trade which is much better than the summer tickets in my opinion even if the chances are low.

To those of you with some a lot of coal or some games to spare, be persistent in the Steam trading forum. Browse other threads and throw out offers. Most of the people who PM'd me were people who just saw my offer in a thread they were looking at.

Managed to get Trine 2, Nation Red and Payday for my games/coal. All of which were on my wish list.
But why is everyone crafting their coal? Don't you need to have more coal in order to have more chances to win prizes?
There isn't any games I really want, so I would rather take the chance, craft something I don't have that I might like.

10% off is insulting. In my book it's like a two cent tip, worse than nothing.

The only way I would consider a 10% coupon maybe worth a damn is on a publisher pack and those are pretty much going to disappear before the coupons go into effect.

I am suspicious that we'll be able to use them on the encore day on Monday (if there is one) or on dailies. I bet there's some loophole to get them out of that, but we'll see.

Also, the vast majority of the coupons are 10, 20, 33, maybe 50% at best and most daily deals during the sale are 75% unless it's a new release so I wouldn't exactly consider the coupons continuing the sale.

With the sale coming to an end, I was browsing through some of the cheaper games, and I thought I might draw your attention to some interesting titles that may be otherwise overlooked. Each one of these is $2.49 USD throughout the sale.

Arx Fatalis: http://store.steampowered.com/app/1700/

With gameplay inspired by the Ultima Underworld series, Arx Fatalis has a first-person perspective roleplaying with survival mechanics and a intriguing story. If you enjoy the gameplay of Skyrim, you'll likely find Arx Fatalis enjoyable.

Broken Sword - Triple Pack: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/6447/

One of the classic adventure game series.

Aztaka: http://store.steampowered.com/app/37100/

I always thought this interesting little game never got much attention. It's basically Metroid meets the Aztecs. Lots of upgrades, an equipment and inventory system, and a soul system give lots of opportunities to customize your gameplay. There's also a number of puzzles, a few of which can be very tricky if you're in a hurry.

Legendary: http://store.steampowered.com/app/16730/

This last one I'm not actually going to recommend. This was one of those games that had a fair bit of publicity, and then quickly went under the radar -- apparently because it wasn't very good. But if you're good with giving a few bucks for one of the later Painkiller games, you might enjoy this too. After all, where else can you shoot at werewolves and minotaurs in the same game?

If anyone else wants to recommend some lesser known titles in this thread before the sale's over, go for it!

Hm, trying that now but who doesn't already have Terraria and who the hell would want Shadowgrounds? Oh well might as well try.

Wow, thanks for bringing this to my attention -- I totally forgot about Aztaka.

Also, Capsized is a $2.50 gem. It has a demo available.
Might be picking up NBA 2K12 for $15....does anybody have impressions on it and how it performs on the PC?
I have it on Steam and it's awesome shit. I've played 64 hours and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of what this game has to offer.

HOWEVER, it's a 2K tradition to feature broken online play. If you're getting it for single player, good. Just don't expect anything from the multiplayer modes.

Tried Hoard. That game is pretty fun.

Crafted a 50% off Valve today which really sucks seeing I own all the Valve games from Half Life 2 up and well I already have a 10% and another 50% off Valve.

Bought the Gundemonium Collection. That is a guilty pleasure game since it's so Japanese.

Sweet, I resisted buying a single game during the entire sale. I think my game buying addiction has come to an end. I'm cured. Good luck to the rest of you CAG addicts.
Ok .. this has to be a fucking joke ... crafted my 6 batches of coal ...

25%Valve
25% Valve
33% Valve
33% Valve
33%Valve
50% Valve

There is nothing random about that .. that is just Valve laughing at me for holding my coal until late in the sale.
Yeah it seems like a ton of people are getting valve coupons now, there is speculation that the gift pile is depleted of non valve stuff (check out the steam forums). I also crafted 6 times today and got all valve coupons 25-50% off. I suppose one could win portal 2 or the complete pack, but it looks like crafting just went down the tubes, and doing the achievements now probably means the same rewards too.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone won any non valve things as of a couple hours before my post and onward, through either crafting or achievements.
Can anyone recommend Dark Messiah of Might and Magic? Looks pretty fun.
It's okay. There's a lot of good to it, but a lot of boring stretches, too, and combat-for-combat's sake. Here's my Steam recommendation:

This is a good game with some great ideas. I love kicking and shoving enemies into spiked traps, or off high cliffs. Odd that all those spikey doors are laying about to take advantage of, though.

My only complaint: DMMaM does not quite live up to the "play it your way" promise. I tried, really tried, to play as a stealth-based character. There are spots in the game, though, where you must win in arena-style combat. The only way to succeed as a thief was to game the A.I. and kite with arrows. Not realistic, not satisfying.

Also, please note, there is no "of" in the title of this game. It drives me crazy how often i see, even at professional game review sites, this game called "Dark messiah OF Might and Magic." WTF?

Still, this game is a lot of fun and a good value.
Also anyone know how well L.A. Noire plays? Is it well optimized or a mess like GTA4?
I don't know about LA Noire, but for the record, GTA4's patch in April 2010 really fixed the porting issues. But still, don't play it without a rig built for gaming (or a console, ha ha). It's a big game with a lot happening, and it requires a big computer. I expect LA Noire is the same...
Would it be a good idea to pick up the Hitman collection?
You know, with Absolution coming out and all.
Was wandering the same. How are the controls?
How do I get the DLC to run? I never dealt with Games for Windows.
Honestly, wish I could tell you - I came here to ask that exact same thing. I had played Minerva's Den on PS3 previously, hence my recommendation for the pack in general. But I was upgrading my Bioshock stuff to pc today. The pack downloads, but it keeps telling me it can't install. Tried both outside the game through the GFWL Marketplace app, and through the game itself - no go. Does anyone have any advice?

When I was doing research a few weeks ago, I read that you're supposed to start up the game in Steam, then look for the DLC in game through one of the menus. It should find that you own the DLC and download it.

With Steam seemingly run out of everything that isn't Valve, I'm glad I crafted my coal already. Didn't get anything that great (3 coupons and a game called Dangerous Waters), but at least it wasn't a steady stream of Valve coupons. I did manage to win Portal with what should be my final achievement (sadly, not Portal 2, which I still want). I might just craft my final bunch of seven coal just to gamble for Portal 2, even though the odds are against me getting it.

Dark Messiah is fantastic.

Rochard is great.

HoMM5 is good if you like HoMM. You only need Tribes of the East and can download the other two campaigns into TotE

Hitman Blood Money is one of the greatest games of all time, easily. The others are pretty weak though.

If you don't have Bioshock 1 and 2, what's wrong with you? Securom though.

I recommend against LA Noire.

Dead Island is tremendous fun if you like first person melee combat but it's an awful game.

Magicka is decent dumb fun but really only as a crazy stupid coop game. Was it cheaper on Amazon?

I don't plan to play online, so I guess it's a definite purchase for me. Will grab it tomorrow after the update.

So before the sale started, I looked at my wish list and determined that if all the games on my list that I really really wanted went on sale for 75% off, I'd only end up spending $35 this sale. I figured that there'd probably be a game or two show up which I hadn't realized that I wanted, so I added an extra $15. Which made my projected budget for the sale $50.

So far I've spent $92.

That sounds about right.

Yup, I tried that. It does see that I own the DLC & download it, but it still won't install it. Really annoying.

I'd planned to spend $30 or less myself and so far $58.82 myself. But overall I think its better than I expected. Ended up not picking up some things I wanted so I am just glad I was able to show more restraint this year.

Would anyone recommmend Dungeons and Dragons Daggerdale for $5.09 (66% off). It seems it's gotten mediocre reviews across the board. I am interested in this though because of my interest in Action RPG games.

I've only played the first 20 minutes so I can't comment too much. There are many, many complaints about bugs at worst breaking the game and at best just making the experience shitty at times. The dev shut down so don't expect patches.

If you have a 360 you might be able to still get it for free by making an account from certain Asian countries.

Does anyone know beyond a doubt that there will be one more day of sales Sunday at 1pm EST, lasting until Monday at 1pm EST? (even just a sale recap day)

People in the last few pages here have made comments as if today was the last day, yet the games that were sale-long discounted say over 24hrs left (meaning Monday at 1pm the sale ends).

I'm wanting to know so that i can wait until the last sale day to pilfer through my wish list to get some items, and i don't want to miss out!

Confirm?

L.A. Noire on the PC worth it? I just bought the complete collection for the 360 with the recent BB DOTD for $20.

I finally do have a gaming PC that can probably run it, but I heard the PC port was terrible, and even high end systems can't run it well. That's why I originally went for the 360 version, so I could sit on my couch and use my TV+surround sound and a 360 controller (I think a dual stick controller is better for driving than KB+M). It's kind of a cinematic game anyway, right?

How worth it would it be to get the PC version instead? Price is not a big factor to me, just the quality of the experience.

Last day is usually a recap day in Steam sales.
