Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?
Out of curiosity, what OS are you running? I'm running Windows 7 64bit. Just trying to find some common denominator for what the problem might be.

Only Microsoft would make installing a game this problematic.
I'm also running Windows 7 64 bit. Bought the DLC through the windows marketplace, then had to install it twice (the first time I got an error so had to delete it)

With all you guys reporting in with Valve coupons being the result of crafting makes me quite hesitant. :whistle2:# At this point, it seems like it's either Valve coupons or a game. But seeing some people with like 10 Valve coupons in a row... hesitation!!

I have a few things for trade:
- Half Life Source
- 50% off Valve
- 50% off Trauma
- 50% Payday: The Heist

Anybody interested? I'd be happy to trade for almost any game (if I don't have it), or even coal. PM me.
I've got a cart full of cheap games right now. Are any of these completely awful to the point of not being worth $2.50 and 30-60 minutes of my time?

 • Gundemonium Collection
 • Cargo - The Quest for Gravity
 • Astro Tripper
 • Capsized
 • Dark Void
 • Dark Void Zero
 • Inside a Star Filled Sky
 • Gravitron 2
 • Dark Sector
 • Eversion
 • Beep
 • Alien Zombie Megadeath
 • Defy Gravity Extended
Cargo is a weird game. You need to try the demo before buying to see if you are interested or not.Its kind of open world whenre you can build weird vehicles and save little man-babies.Explaining it in word doesnt do it justice lol.

Capsized is an awesome game.Get it.I think its 3 hours or so long and longer if you want to find all the secrets.

Dark Void Zero is an oldschool hard platformer.I dont know how long the game is.

Dark Sector is a decent TPS game. Its cheap so get that too.

OMG that is horrible. I cannot believe that they ran out of third-party games and coupons. Sure wish this would have been planned better, now I've got all this stupid coal... arrrrgghhh!!!!

I am really impressed with myself this sale. I set a limit of $2.50 or less per game and well turns out I met my goal. Even with the Dejobaan and Gundemoniom collections, I ended up spending less than $2.50 per game in the pack.

I also won (and crafted)
Space Pirates and Zombies (kept for myself)
Majesty 2 (kept for myself)
Dirt 2 (Traded)
Orange Box (Traded)
Hunted: Demon's Forge (Avaiable for trade)
Osmos (Avaiable for trade)

So overall I had a great sale this year. Got a lot of cool indie games, and games I would of never considered before (games like Puzzle Agent), and I am finding new great games all around. :D

Went ahead and crafted 35 coal - 4 Valve coupons and a copy of Half Life :(

I hope I can use these coupons on the morning of January 2nd. Be nice to stack a 50% coupon on the Valve complete pack at its current price.

Haven't bought much this sale, Binding of Issac and gonna be getting CS and Rollercoaster Tycoon.

Haven't done good this year with coupons and coal. Got 6 pieces of coal, and willing to trade. Would like a good Valve coupon. Any offers, PM me.

ya that's pretty terrible. oh well i guess the multi-accounters did ruin it after all. :(

My major disappointment this sale- Jade Empire.
That's become a given for every sale. Whoever is in charge of that game on Steam has to be an idiot. Put it on sale for 75% off ($3.75), and watch the purchases come flying in. That'd be a ton of dollars that they aren't getting now.

Just played some of the Gundemonium Collection. Thank GOD the cheevos were not daily. The one in Hitogata Happa is almost if not as bad as Meat Boy.

The games are fun though, but more on a guilty pleasure level.

Well, it's the only Bioware published game on Steam. They're not really a publisher. EA does all of their games now and before that it was companies like Microsoft. I bet the money for sales of that game go through one accountant somewhere at the company who doesn't know anything about Steam or marketing. Maybe they'll get it figured out someday.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines was never on sale until someone at Activision realized that a discount might actually move units of that old game. I bet they sold 100x as many copies during those two months when it was discounted thrice than they did in the previous year.
53 objectives but no DOTA 2 :(.
I hate how hundreds of other jerks get Dota2 but people that actually want it never got one.

Goodluck with that....

I'm going to be completely honest - and I know get flamed for it in the process - I got a DOTA 2 beta key a few weeks back. I played a few rounds and HATED every minute of it. League of Legends is so much more refined and accessible than DOTA 2. I could literally write a dissertation on the differences and how LoL is better. This isn't from a fanboy of LoL, I begrudgingly took up an account there, but comparing he two head-to-head isn't even fair.

I feel like right now anything new and exciting is worth more to play than LoL. LoL is a lot more casual, and I appreciate that, but I'm familiar with all of the champions, how to win my own lanes, and many of the other ins and outs, it's not a challenge or all that interesting when my last few games are like 5/1, 11/3, 12/4 etc.

Yeah, I figured that was going to happen at some point. Glad I crafted during the sale when I did. Still crafted at the end to get a 50% off Valve coupon. Makes me hope for use on Monday before the sale goes off.

Play without the monitor being one, with your feet, one handed, or while you play another match.

But then I might as well not even play LoL, I have these amazing limbs that I can just entertain myself with.

So don't whine about the lack of a challenge if you don't want to challenge yourself.

So true. I want one so bad but 32 objectives later, nothing.

Pure curiosity, but what is your summoner's level? And do you play ranked matches? I mean, you could always start your own team (or join one) and attempt to win the grand prize of $2 million by playing competitive LoL.

I'm not interested in competitive LoL, and I hope people don't mistake what I've said as me bashing the game, I love the game, and have a great time in matches. It's simply a matter of playing something you're familiar with vs playing something brand new to you.
So don't whine about the lack of a challenge if you don't want to challenge yourself.
That's not as much of a challenge as being a spoilsport and ruining a game for 9 other people :wall:
I hate how hundreds of other jerks get Dota2 but people that actually want it never got one.
Haha, a friend gifted me DOTA 2 and I didn't even want it. He wanted me to play it with him. When I realized that it was actually worth a lot for trade, I told him he was an idiot for sending it to me. I redeemed it and I never even played it. I hate those games.

The fact that Valve ran out of non-Valve games to give out and flooded the prize pile with worthless coupons rather than flooding it with DOTA2 beta codes is very disappointing ... shows what kind of company Valve may be trending towards ...
So correct me if I'm wrong, but this effectively makes all the coal and objectives pretty worthless now, right? Unless you're interested in Valve games?
Correct, aside from the infinitesimal chance of getting the Valve Complete Pack.
So correct me if I'm wrong, but this effectively makes all the coal and objectives pretty worthless now, right? Unless you're interested in Valve games?
The only thing you can do is to stockpile as much coal as you can and hope that a cheating Russian doesn't win the grand prize.

I think they just got overambitious. They'll either never do this again, or fix it next time.

1 account, 28 objectives completed. I'm leaving a few on the table, don't feel like going after them. Happy new year everybody!
I think they just got overambitious. They'll either never do this again, or fix it next time.
Yeah, but it still doesn't help that the Valve coupons are by far the most worthless of all the coupons and that anyone who decided to save crafting until the very end got terribly screwed over. I wasn't impacted because I did my crafting earlier, but I feel for some folks who may have been waiting until the very end to do some crafting. Plus, the very quiet way they chose to announce that they ran out of decent gifts was a bit on the shady side, especially for people who crafted multiple times today. Oh well, things to improve upon for next year I guess.

It is on the main client... on the gift pile page, there is an annoucement in a large red box in the lower right corner.

"Please Note!
If you unlock an achievement on or after 12/31 your prize will be a free Valve game, a coupon toward a Valve game, or Holiday Coal."
The fact that Valve ran out of non-Valve games to give out and flooded the prize pile with worthless coupons rather than flooding it with DOTA2 beta codes is very disappointing ... shows what kind of company Valve may be trending towards ...
Oh please. The issue was not Valve. The issue was greedy customers. So many accounts were banned because people were coal farming. Blame those sad sacks that accumulated 300 coal and robbed the gift pile. Valve can't really be blamed for running out of prizes ONE DAY before the event ends when you have so many people that ripped the rest of us off by getting 10x the coal and prizes.

I personally loved the promotion and found it fun. The sale itself was bleh but that was just a product of me owning everything that was on sale that I was interested in -- other than LA Noire! So the sale ended on a great note for me. I was hoping for LA Noire at $20 and it hit 12.50, score!

I also won a few games. Revenge of the Titans, The Ship and The Ball. I wish I could have been one of the lucky guys that won a copy of Skyrim or something but there were probably only 5 copies in the pile and all of them were probably won by some coal farming clown. Which sucks but isn't Valves fault. It will be their fault if they don't prevent against it next year, though. Now that they know how sorry some people are they should know what to prevent next year.

that's some lousy placement of that announcement in the client. It's right in an area where I would probably not even notice . It's right under " How Does This Work"? Why would I look in that area? I already know how it works and there was no reason to look below there before
