Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

we're currently 10 pages shy of my pre-sale (or very early sale, can't remember exactly) prediction that this thread would hit 600 by the end of the sale. 11 hours, 16 minutes to go. i'm counting on you guys.

Next year when I look at my library and think "When the hell did I get these?" I'll eventually realize they came from this sale.

Anyone want to write a short recommendation of every game steam has to offer each in their own post? We might hit it then.
So you took my advice to play his copy.

I've got to ask though about the Dungeon Defenders DLC. Do they really add enough? I know they are 75% off, but paying for gender swapped heroes is still ridiculous no matter the cost.
I got someone to trade me the New Heroes DLC for coal, but IMO it is pretty much pointless because the difference between genders is very small. Only get it if you want to host the 8 player map Uber Monster Fest. The rest of the DLC just adds one challenge map each too IIRC, however, all holiday ones were free for their respective holiday periods, so they may become free again when it rolls around next year.

Not for me. I have each page set to 100 responses. So I'm on the 119th page I think?

I came just to revel in the 'death to consoles'-ness of this thread! Keep up the good work!

Might as well, adding in the stuff I won/traded for.

Orcs Must Die! + DLC
Bunch of Heroes - Won, traded for Toki Tori
Counter-Strike: Source - Won, traded for L4D2
Skyrim
Altitude - Won
EYE: Divine Cybermancy
Two World 2 - Won
Hydrophobia: Prophecy - Won (SteamGifts.com), traded for RUSH
STORM: Frontline Nations - Won
Bad Rats - Won
Sniper: Ghost Warrior Gold - Won
Plants Vs Zombies
Jamestown DLC
Farming Simulator 2012 - Won, traded for coal
Dark Messiah - Bought, Traded for Day of Defeat: Source for a gift to my brother.

Final haul cost 52.15. Without Skyrim that would have been way less.

I won way more stuff than I thought. I also technically won Avadon from SteamGifts.com too, but that was a scam giveaway.

EDIT: Totally forgot my Farming Sim.... silly me. Also want to add that I am trying to trade what I have Won (Sniper, STORM, Bad Rats) if anyone doesn't check the Steam Trade and Gift thread, but actually wants those games... nobody wants Bad Rats.

I don't know if I should buy Arkham City. The Skins DLC (only one I want) isn't 50% off as it was earlier in the sale. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

The only thing I've bought this sale is the Jamestown DLC which was $0.74. I was hoping for Morrowind for $5 and DA:O for less than $15. Seems like the former is never going to happen again and the latter may not happen due to Origin.

Might buy the Oddboxx though since that's cheap.
this... I like seeing what other people bought on this sale
19th - Fable 3, Singularity, Bunch of Heroes
20th - Nothing
21st - PAYDAY
22nd - Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
23rd - Aliens vs Predator
24th - Skyrim, Hard Reset
25th - Alice: Madness Returns
26th - Sonic Generations
27th - Nothing
28th - Space Pirates and Zombies
29th - Total War: Shogun 2
30th - Nothing

I also bought/traded for/came into ownership of these:
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, Arcania: Gothic 4, Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2 , Risen

I was gifted the following games:

Batman: Arkham City + all DLC
Dead Rising 2: Off The Record
The Witcher 2
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Stalker: Clear Sky
Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand DLC
Defense Grid: You Monster DLC

I spent no money on any of this (TF2 items). Mountain of games for zero dollars = happy me. ;)

Off sale that would have come to $657.00

It's showing up at 50% off for me, check again.

Personally, I thought Arkham City was a not-so-good port, but a great game. It lasted me a good 10-12, and that was for the main story alone. I still haven't done much of the side stuff or challenge maps.

My haul

Gundemoniom Collection
Hoard (Trade for $2.50)
Puzzle Agent 1 and 2
Xotic
Dungeon Defenders Character DLC (Trade for game)
Solar 2
Duke Nukem Forever: Doctor Who Clones Me DLC (Trade for game)
Rock of Ages
Dejobaan Complete Pack
E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy
Avadon
Psychonauts
Dark Void Zero
Fable TLC

Non Steam deals
Renegade Ops ($3 off Amazon)

So totaling all my Steam purchases
I spent $32.21 on Steam and got 17 games. Not a bad haul when you think about it, lol.

I see it now. Any reason why it was a not-so-good port? I traded my PS3 copy for AC:R since I have a good PC now and can get the game and DLC cheaper than on the PS3. Plus mods are always fun.
Do it.

No! Must...resist....

I thought today was the last day of the sale, but the countdown is still on the store page. Are we getting another day of encores tomorrow?

Although it says "New Deals In" it is probably just the timer for how long these sales will last.

Dungeons of Dredmor + dlc
E.Y.E. Divine cybermancy
Torchlight
Hard Reset
Wings of Prey + Dlc
Alice: Madness Returns
Anomaly Warzone
Bastion
Greed Corp
Solar 2
Hearts of iron 3 Complete
Serious Sam: Random Encounter
Deus Ex: The Missing Link
Rochard: Sound track edition

Total: $63.18

Might add day of defeat source of dungeon defenders. Undecided.
double posting is another useful tactic!
 Also I'm considering Orcs Must Die as my final game of the sale. I would jump on Portal 2 but I don't think my PC can handle it.

DX11 support is broken, not sure if they fixed it yet. The game runs like ass when you've got it on, even on cards people were told could handle it (my 560 ti included.) Semi-frequent crashes, I had CTD's on startup for the first few hours until I read that you have to mess with your AA settings to get it to stop. I had about 6-8 gameplay crashes throughout my 10-12 hours. Nothing 100% debilitating, but enough to get on your nerves.

I'm never pre-ordering a non Blizzard or Valve game again, after getting burned on this, and seeing what happened to RAGE.
Is there a way to see what you spent and bought in a specific period(transactions) on steam? I was hoping for a left4dead encore.
In your client, in the upper-right corner, to the left of the min/max/close buttons it says "'s Account". Click on that for info about purchase history, like how you obtained the game and what you paid.

Not really any big purchases:

Psychonauts $2.49
Jamestown DLC $0.74
Rock of Ages $2.49
Binding of Isaac + soundtrack $1.49
Universe Sandbox $2.49
Puzzle Agent $1.24
Puzzle Agent 2 $2.49

Total: $13.43

Won:
Lots of useless coupons
Capsized (which I already Own)
Civilization V

Useless Coupons

That news about running out of 3rd party stuff makes me wonder if by the time I finally started crafting all they had left in the pile from 3rd parties was crappy coupons. I should have been crafting as soon as I got up to 7 coal each time I guess.

Guess I'll stay up to midnight pacific and see if my coupons become active then to use on sale leftovers.
Looks like I missed killing floor....
Killing Floor goes on sale every sale Steam does and is sometimes discounted regularly so never fear. It will get cheaper again.

Wow, I got a lot. Sheesh. $113 total. Not bad for 27 games and 2 DLC packs. I'm happy with the sale.
I think the big news of this year's Steam sale is the arrival of Amazon as a viable DD retailer. Not just viable, but aggressive!
Well, whenever you want to take customers from someone else, you price aggressively. Doesn't mean that Steam is falling down on the job, or that Amazon will be forever the new king. Such things go back and forth.

I just shake my head when people say "Steam sucks" or "Amazon sucks". Whoever has the best deals change from year to year and it will always be that way, because companies need to make money and companies are always trying to win the loyalty of other companies.

Personally, I've been happy with the Steam sale, and probably bought more than last year.

Didn't really get much this year:

Purchased
Jamestown: Gunpower, Treason, & Plot - $0.75
Limbo - $2.50
-----------
Total: $3.25

Gifts
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
33% off Valve
50% off Drakensang
50% off DEFCON
50% off Sonic Generations
8 Pieces of Coal

The only games that tempted me were Bastion and Hard Reset, but I think I'll hold off until they're cheaper and I've played some of my other games. All in all, a relatively weak holiday sale for me this year. It definitely wasn't as good/successful as the summer sale. Oh well, there's always next year.

Won or traded for:
RAGE
Bulletstorm
Fallout 3 GOTY
Dead Space 2

Bought:
Sonic Generations - $10.19
Deus Ex DLC - $0 (used referral credit at GMG)

$10 for 5.5 games. Not bad.

Can anyone encourage or discourage me? I'm on the fence about Orcs Must Die and Cargo.

I hybridy tower defense games, and I've dug everything that Ice Pick Lodge has put out, but I'm not sure.
