Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

A friend convinced to try Fallout 3, unfortunately its daily deal did not come back today and I don't want to pay 50% off when I could have had it for 75% off. Oh well... plenty of games to play anyway.
Can anyone encourage or discourage me? I'm on the fence about Orcs Must Die and Cargo.

I hybridy tower defense games, and I've dug everything that Ice Pick Lodge has put out, but I'm not sure.
Orcs Must Die! is really, and I mean really fun, but once you've beaten it there isn't a huge reason to replay it. All you could do differently is use towers you didn't use before or a harder difficulty. The game will run you about 5-6 hours with one playthrough. Also you would be supporting the new Ensemble Entertainment which I am all for.

Orcs Must Die is tons of fun and is well made. If you like TD kinds of games then by all means buy and enjoy.
 Also I'm considering Orcs Must Die as my final game of the sale. I would jump on Portal 2 but I don't think my PC can handle it.
Nice haul for your first sale! You'll get a lot of enjoyment out of all of those.

Based on what you have and what's on sale, I'd recommend Bastion (SNES type RPG) and the Portal pack (problem solving similar to Deus Ex and fun like Just Cause 2). It would put you over by about a $1, but I think you'd enjoy them.
 Also I'm considering Orcs Must Die as my final game of the sale. I would jump on Portal 2 but I don't think my PC can handle it.
I'm fairly certain if you can run source based games you should be able to run Portal 2. If L4D2, TF2, or the original Portal handled well than so should Portal 2.

I picked up:

Trine
Bastion
Legend of Fae
Chantelise
Dungeons of Dredmor
Grotesque Tactics 2
Sequence
Terraria

Didn't pay over $5 for any of them.

Also got Tropico 4 from Amazon.

Lots of games. Don't know how I'm going to get a chance to play them all.

Yeah it can run those things (pretty) well. I guess I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the guidance.

ALSO: I highly doubt that anyone doesn't already have Portal, but I'm going to get Portal 2 and for only $1 more I can get Portal also. Let me know if you want it in the next 7 minutes.

Gifts:
Portal 2 (Traded for Dead Island)
Delve Deeper (Gave to my brother)
Lots of damn coupons and coal

It took me a good while, I had to sift through about 20 low-ball offers, but I've offloaded my Xmas winnings. Just traded away my F1 2011 gift, which came from some silly achievement, for Disciples III and Renegade Ops.

I'm one happy bunny. Thankyou Steam.

+1 for Orcs Must Die! It's a blast, especially if you like a bit of a challenge and are competitive (shows all of your friends' scores). I was on the fence too but decided to bite, and it's going to be one of those games I keep installed for a long time.

Cargo. If you like acid trips, insanity, confusion and "fun" you may like this. The GiantBomb and WTF is... both pretty well sum up what it's like to play this thing. It's a lot of goofy surrealism, occasionally half-baked controls and some confusing objectives, but a memorable experience -- if only because it's so weird.

Well if you spent too much money then the dinosaur would have gotten jelly that you were not spending time with them. Depending on the dinosaur that could have ended badly.

Whelp, exceeded my budget again. But not nearly so much as I was afraid I might. All told, I got a lot of great stuff for very awesome prices, thanks in no small part to the fantastic deals Amazon ran.

$40.40 total from Steam and Amazon! Not bad for picking up Deus Ex HR and Shogun 2 from Amazon and a bunch of indies and DLC from Steam. Excellent sale overall and I got lucky through trades and cheevos.

Traded for:
Two Worlds 2
Sherlock Holmes Collection
Batman AA
DOD:Source

Bought:

Biting on Orcs Must Die.

As far ask Cargo, I know what I'm getting into with an Ice Pick Lodge game. I love (love love) The Void, and Ice Pick's games don't go on sale that often. Hmm.

It looks like the Steam version of Cargo does not use GFWL, but that the other versions do. Is that correct? It's a buck cheaper on GamersGate, but avoiding GFWL might be worth $1.

Well, here's my haul from this sale. I only got my own Steam account recently (before, I would bum off my husband's), so I ended up rebuying a few games (Audiosurf, Torchlight, and all of Tropico 3; also already had Toki Tori via WiiWare):

- Audiosurf
- Beat Hazard Complete
- Chantelise
- Cthulhu Saves the World & Breath of Death VII Double Pack
- Dungeons of Dredmor (+DLC)
- Frozen Synapse: Soundtrack Edition
- Half-Life 1 Anthology (Half-Life + expansions, Team Fortress Classic)
- Recettear
- Torchlight
- Tropico 4 (+DLC)
- Tropico Trilogy (Tropico Reloaded, Tropico 2, Tropico 3 SSE, Tropico 3: Absolute Power)
- Two Tribes Pack (Toki Tori, EDGE, RUSH)

(ETA: ...And bought the Penny Arcade Combo Pack this afternoon. Total for everything came to $72.67.)

As for the Great Gift Pile dealie, I didn't get anything worth talking about :p

Didn't think my 2012 PC/Mac backlog would be a big one, but I guess it is now!

True, though this dinosaur was a single core herbivore not the quad core fire breathing carnivore I have today.

From steam:
Bunch of Heroes 4-Pack (not that bad playing with friends)
Dungeons of Dredmor (bleh)
EYE (bleh)
H.A.W.X. (fills my flight fix)
Universe Sandbox (interesting but short shelf life)
Rock of Ages (actually was fun for a little bit)
Sequence (eh, it is ok)

Received as gifts:
Rage
LA Noire

Total spent: $13 and some change.

From Amazon:
Dungeon Defenders x 4 (3 gifts for friends) (Great game!)
Borderlands GOTY (gift for a friend)
Crysis Maximum Edition (Sweet deal!)
Nuclear Dawn (bleh)
Tropico 4 (Sweet deal!)
Dungeon Siege 3 (haven't played yet)

Total Spent: $40 and some change

So, Amazon wins this year. Although, if I had not received LA Noire and Rage as gifts, that would have added another $27 to my steam total.

I took a gamble on some of the steam games I picked up because they were so cheap. Some of them really sucked. Although, Rock of Ages was fun for a little bit. Also, playing Bunch of Heroes with friends in team speak can certainly compensate for some of the issues that game has. E.Y.E. is a terrible game, IMO.

Was a good year since I ended spending less than last year

I brought:
Batman Arkham City
Super Street Fighter: All-in Costume Pack
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition
L.A. Noire
Puzzle Agent 2
Universe Sandbox
Xotic
The Ship
Tomb Raider: Legend
Space Pirates and Zombies(SPAZ)
Sequence
Bulletstorm
Nuclear Dawn
Hard Reset
E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy
Duke Nukem Forever Parody Pack
Duke Nukem Forever
Psychonauts
Bunch of Heroes

And got via trades and achievements:
SEGA Genesis Classics Collection
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Thief: Deadly Shadows
The First Templar
Sol Survivor
Tropico Trilogy
Silent Hill: Homecoming
The Longest Journey + Dreamfall
FlatOut

Only missed Sonic and Alice, but I can wait until the Summer Sale or a Daily Deal for those.

Bunch of Heroes
Tropico 4
Rage
Deus Ex Human Revolutin (Amazon)
Humble Indie Bundle 3 (gifted to me)

Won from the gift pile:
Valve Complete Pack
Extended
Lightfish
50% off Vavlve
33% off Valve
50% off Dawn of War II retribution (would anyone like this? I'll never use it)

Is half Life: Source worth playing for $2.50? I played the original Half Life back in 1998 and I've also played and beaten opposing force and Half Life 2 and Episodes 1 &2. Do the source revamps make it worth purchasing and replaying?

Pretty happy with my haul this year...

Bought:

Blocks that Matter
BoD7/Cthulhu Double Pack
Jamestown DLC

Grand Total... $3 spent.

I completed 31 objectives and won one game (Portal 1) and a ton of useless coupons. Traded my coal for games on my wishlist.

Trades:

Gundemonium Collection (7 coal)
Oddbox (4 coal)
Renegade Ops + DLC (6 coal)
Rochard + Capsized (8 coal)
Portal 2 (7 coal) ---- SCORE!

All in all I am happy. I love free games, and I had a bunch of fun getting the winter achievements! Scoring Portal 2 for my last 7 coal was AWESOME!

I just wish I could have won more free games from steam. Getting coal every time kind of bummed me out after hearing a bunch of you guys were getting free games.

Thanks Steam! I love the new trading system, very cool. I look forward to future sales. Keep it up.

Have Half-Life 2 and Portal 1 up for trade for just about ANYTHING! PM me ;)
Is half Life: Source worth playing for $2.50? I played the original Half Life back in 1998 and I've also played and beaten opposing force and Half Life 2 and Episodes 1 &2. Do the source revamps make it worth purchasing and replaying?
My vote is no if you've already experienced the original. The Source update really does a lot less to improve Half-Life than many, including myself, were expecting. I would save your $2.50 and wait for the impending HL2: Black Mesa.

Ok so comparing Jamestown and the Gundemoniom Collection if anyone is on the fence.

Jamestown is a SHMUP for everyone. It's easy for players who are not really that good at SHMUPS and it gets really challenging for people who are, great game.

The Gundemonium collection is for people who want a fucking crazy ass shooter that requires a doctorate in mathematics to figure out the correct amount of angle you need to avoid the tons and tons of bullets on screen. That or you want to shoot down anime drawn girls wearing tight dresses and bunny ears riding a flying motorbike (I am 100% serious on that one).

I like both but for different reasons. Jamestown when I feel like I want to beat a SHMUP, and the Gundemonium collection for when I want to play a game to see how far I can get before the game over.

Thanks for the input. I'll be saving my $2.50 then. I'm aware of Black Mesa but they've been working on it for years and it seems like it's never coming out :(

Damn, was really hoping Sonic Generations would go back on sale. I wish the last day they'd just redo all the dailies instead of a select few. Nothing I'm really interested in today, and LA Noire was just on sale yesterday.

My haul:
Psychonauts
Jamestown DLC
Bastion Soundtrack
Sequence
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Two Tribes Pack

Definitely the least I've ever spent during a Steam sale. Doubt that even adds up to $15. I believe I spent more on Amazon this year.
All I hoped for this sale were cheap Indie bundles. 5 games at $1 per game is all I asked for. Most of the Indie games that would've been in the bundle were offered for $2.49 because they had achievements attached to them. Sure, you could get games for doing the achievements, but so many people exploited it that they've run out. Last year, they offered And Yet It Moves, Beat Hazard, Flight Control HD, The Polynomial, and Toki Tori for $1 apiece, and they even offered Recettear for $1.
Think it's starting to show that all these various indie bundles are starting to chip away at Steam. Steam used to be the best possible place to buy this stuff, especially during the holidays when they'd have their own bundles. Now, you can get a handful of games from one of these bundles every month or so to the point where people's mentality is to wait and see if someone shows up in a bundle rather than getting it on Steam.
Hahaha, you've got a point there. (Although, "Valve is evil" is definitely a hyperbole.) I think it's more the minor frustration of putting effort into something only to get coupons that are virtually useless. (After all, what CAG would want a "25% off Valve" coupon when waiting for the next sale will probably yield much larger savings?)

I can't complain at all, though - I got Hydrophobia for free (Traded Capsized for it.) during the sale, so I'm still horribly excited.
I don't disagree, I think they're stupid. Thus why I didn't put any effort into it. >.< But I think it's a cool little thing to do if you're bored, so I strongly encourage it. That doesn't mean I expect I'll win a bloody thing. Anyway, I know friends who haven't even heard of Half Life 2...great gift. ^_^

My haul for the sale:

Bought
Anomaly: Warzone Earth
Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY
Bulletstorm
Bunch of Heroes
Edge
E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy
Jamestown Gunpowder DLC
Orcs Must Die!
Psychonauts
Puzzle Agent 2
Torchlight
Universe Sandbox

I still haven't made my end-of-sale purchases yet. Right now I have in my art SS: The Random Encounter, some various DLC, Space Empires IV, Dark Void Zero, Dark Sector, and Garry's Mod. I'm also looking at Windosill, which is a fun little toy but is also available in pay-what-you-want right now at its website.

Won
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Goatee Edition
Flight Control HD (already owned)
The Orange Box (already owned)
The Orange Box (yes, two of them)
Prototype (traded coal for it)
Supreme Commander 2 (already owned)
Vegas: Make It Big
Coupons, obviously

Most of my coupons are pretty worthless, though I do have some in the 33-50% range for The Witcher 2, LA Noire, and A Game of Thrones. I plan to trade my inventory away if I can (except for Oblivion and Prototype), maybe get Bastion out of it if I'm lucky. Not that I would be making any trade offers here of course, that's what the other thread is for. :whistle2:\"
what was that site that was an alternative for steamgamesales.com? That is borked again.
I can't decide if this was a good or bad sale for me. A bunch of the games I wanted didn't drop in price like I was hoping, so I ended up only buy a small amount. The bright side is that my wallet wasn't too beat up and I didn't add too much to my already huge backlog.

I'm hoping that I can get a good trade for my DOTA beta key I got. Can someone point me in a good direction where I can trade without someone trying to scam me?

My haul, in order of purchase:

Saints Row the Third (via THQ store)
Skyrim
Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY
Rock of Ages
Edge
Puzzle Agent 2
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

Very happy with my purchases, although one of my most wanted games didn't get enough discount for me to buy (Heroes of Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes). Rochard was also not low enough for me despite wanting to get it. Just as well I guess, I have a huge backlog as most people do. Must say I was surprised that those two didn't drop like stones in discounts though.

Anyone know if you can use a rebate card (specifically American Express Prepaid Reward) on Steam? I have some from PC parts I bought and should use them before they start charging me service fees.

I just played the demo for Orcs Must Die and it worked perfectly fine, now after I bought and installed it its not working. I click play and it says "preparing to launch Orcs Must Die" and then that quickly disappears and then nothing happens. WTF?!

Did pretty good this year.

If anyone wants Dota2 and portal 2 for either assassin's creed revelations or Saint row 3 (2 games for 1 in other words) feel free to pm me.

I doubt they'll be any takers, but if someone wants either of those coupons, I'm giving them away free. PM me, add me on Steam and ask, whatever.

...And yeah, I'm too afraid to total that up this year. lol

Try exiting out of Steam, go to 'C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\orcs must die!\installer', and reinstall both 'dxsetup.exe' and 'vcredist_x86.exe'.

A lot of times the forever looping pre-reqs will get ya. (Steam really needs to streamline that whole process but I can understand why it remains)

Steam: *psst* "Hey buddy!? Ya want some more of this DirectX? Come on man I know you want it. Just reinstall it like 50 more times dude, come on."

Thanks, i was looking at Bastion because of how everyone says it's amazing. I've already played the Portals on xbox though.

I'm waiting for $4.99 Batman.

I bought 1 game this sale: Sonic for $10.19.

^^ Why did you buy all those games? How the fuck are you going to find time to play them?
