Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Legend of Fae only came out this summer. It does seem good, but I'll wait until the next sale to get it.
I would wait till they fix all the issues, at least for me the game hangs and sometimes if I'm lucky I would get to the main menu.. Maybe I'm just one of the unlucky ones that the game doesn't work for. I played for about 6 minutes or so and the game hanged me.. Ever since then I haven't been able to play. It is fun if you like Puzzle quest.
If that refers to Bastion, then I respectfully disagree. I thought it was one of the best things I played all year.
I agree with this statement. It was great. I could play it again after playing through new game+. I hope that there's a more in depth follow up that keeps those excellent mechanics.

I found the controls of Bastion to be frustrating with M+K. My main issue is that sometimes the game prevents you from walking over the edge and then other times it just lets it happen. I liked the style and action-RPG aspects, but I just cant play it right now. Maybe one day when I get a gamepad...

Odd, I will keep that in mind. Then again I will wait for either it gets in an indie bundle, a daily for 75% off or the summer sale next year. The great thing about these indie bundles for me is I can set a limit of $2.50 per indie game on Steam in a chance it gets included in a bundle and if it doesn't, I just buy it when it hits daily or the next big sale for when it will get 75% off. :D

Indie bundles are helping become a cheaper CAG.

You don't need to respectfully disagree with Jaysonguy. He's a useless asshole who loves trolling. He posted how everyone working in K-Mart and Sears deserves to lose their job.

To keep it on topic...I'm pretty sad that Gundemonium Collection didn't get a daily or prize achievements. With every game in the bundle having a winter achievement, I thought for sure they'd be a little more prominent. :(

I don't get the massive love for Bastion. It had great art direction and a nice story but the game play was pretty lackluster and it was fairly short... even for an indie game.

We're you one of the people defending people who do poor jobs?

I don't remember but the anger you have because workers who failed to work got fired is darn near priceless \\:D/

I signed up for Steam right before the last sale and bought four or five games then. I added the following during this sale, some of which I bought for achievements and will most likely not play again:

Binding Of Isaac
BIT.TRIP.BEAT
Defense Grid: The Awakening and DLC
Dungeons of Dredmor Pack with Realm of the Diggle Gods
Flight Control HD
HOARD: Complete Pack
Machinarium
Psychonauts
SpaceChem
Toki Tori
Universe Sandbox

I still have Bastion, Braid and Capsized sitting in my cart but haven't decided if I will finalize the purchase.

My meager winnings:
7 coal crafted into 25% off Valve coupon
25% off Valve coupon
25% off Valve coupon

Sweet. This sale actually got a lot better for me. Just traded Riddick for Bastion! Pretty damn happy about it too :)

Updated:

Purchased
Jamestown: Gunpower, Treason, & Plot - $0.75
Limbo - $2.50
-----------
Total: $3.25

Gifts
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (Traded)
33% off Valve
50% off Drakensang
50% off DEFCON
50% off Sonic Generations
9 Pieces of Coal

Trades
Bastion (for Chronicles of Riddice: Assault on Dark Athena)

Now that I managed to get Bastion, I can call this a very successful holiday sale, the scamming/farming notwithstanding.

About to bite the bullet on Bastion. But I don't know... I have so many games that I haven't played though everyone's calling it a masterpiece. Maybe it'll be in the next Humble Bundle..

I think the main obstacle to it being in an indie bundle is that WB is the publisher.

Well I did a small achievement grind today, 16 total achievements and my haul was:

2 50% off Valve Coupons
Half Life 2: Episode 1 game
King Bounty's Coupon

didn't have the game so yeah for me. Also got me to finally play a ton of games I never had so double yeah... maybe they'll get some sweet deals on valve games I don't have and I'll use my coupons.

Haul this sale:
Stalker: Clear Sky
Stalker: Call of Pripyat
Garry's Mod

Total: 8.72

Yeah, don't expect Bastion, Rock of Ages and the like in a HiB or even Indie Royale. Of all the titles featured in such deals (which is probably nearing 50 games) the only title that wasn't self published was Shank, by EA of all places. So while it's a small chance other publishers may follow suit, it's a pretty big shot in the dark.

Also, if anyone who donated to Child's Play wants a free copy of EYE: Cybermancy please PM with your Steam emails. Two people who wanted it never claimed their copy so I still have them in my inventory and it's been a week.

Didn't get alot this year but I usually get one big purchase every holiday sale. This time, it was Skyrim.

I have 7 coal but after looking at the horror stories here, mostly getting Valve coupons, I might just use the coal for the drawing...unless I get other suggestions.

I'm disappointed I didn't do much this year to get more gifts or coal. fuck work.

Good quality lists there.

My picks for those doing last minute shopping:
Orcs Must Die! (Just buy it already!)
Shatter (awesome brick breaker-style game)
Rush (good puzzler, hit a daily, but still a deal at 2.50)
Jolly Rover (Fun, light point/click adventure)
Cthulhu Saves the World/BoD (great old school-style RPGs)
Faerie Solitaire (in case anyone on this forum hasn't bought it yet)
Penny Arcade games (fun RPGs with some clever writing)

And yes, freaking buy Bastion already

Uhm .. I actually didn't enjoy Bastion that much (played on my friends acc), the setting is great but the gameplay needs a lot of polishing imo, and yeah I had to hook up a xbox360 controller because the KBM combo is really really lacking.

Oh, and I don't mind the narrator, don't like it nor hate it either, I'm just ''okay, cool''

Put me in the "Bastion is...eh" camp. Looks great and the narration is a nice touch, but I don't think it is amazing. But for $5? Yeah, I think it should be a safe buy for anybody.

dammit, if i keep reading this thread i'm going to end up buying bastion. then cursing myself (and all of you...) when it shows up in an indie bundle / hits $3 as a daily / becomes free (?) before i've even had a chance to play it.

Because the list didn't mention "Space Rangers 2," the list is an automatic failure.

All kidding aside (sort of :booty:), I think this may have been the least damaging sale to my wallet. Spent a grand, spankin' total of $3.73 (Sequence + SPAZ). I think it may have something to do with the fact that this is my third Steam December Sale.

Regardless.. Enjoy your backlog, folks! :bouncy:
Did anyone get a Xmas TF2 hat during the event? I'd be willing to make a trade of some kind for the Santa one.
Here's the one I got: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/B.M.O.C. It's the B.M.O.C. Santa hat you're looking for.

Edit: What's a realistic offer for this? I've seen several threads of people frothing at the mouth for this hat.

Cracked on dinner date and la noire. Even though I already have Noire for console, those f'ing steam achievements. 60+ of em. So tempting. I don't even want to tally up how much I spent. Noire also showed up in alot of year end lists.

Thanks for sharing this! Didn't know about Penny Arcade... much better deal than on XBLA, and it's Mac-compatible. Also got HOARD yesterday as well, a fun little game, and incinerating thieves for the special Christmas achievement was a nice creative touch. There's just something about a 75% discount and/or a price point below $3 (US) that gets me all excited to give Steam my money. I've only been on Steam for about six months or so, but I can say there's no comparison in terms of bringing the deals at holiday time... sales skillz, Steem haz it!!1! :bouncy:

My haul-

Bought:
HB4 ($6)
Bastion ($5)
Chantelise ($2.50)
Dungeons of Dredmor ($1.25)
E.Y.E. ($2)
Hard Reset ($5)
Serious Sam Double D($3)
Cargo ($5 (traded))

Only spent around $25.

Received Gifts:
HB1- Excited to play Aquaria. Looks like a beautiful game.
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

Traded for:
Portal 2 (Cargo)- really happy to get this game for $5. I passed on it when it hit a daily because it seemed every one was winning it- so I figured it would magically appear in my gift pile. 20+ coal later I felt like an idiot, so I hit different forums looking for a trader. Luckily I scored it for cheaper than the daily.
Orange Box (Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising)

Disappointment:
Jade Empire not being on sale.

Of course I would've loved every game in my wishlist to hit $5 or lower, but I'll let it slide this time Steam. Overall, this sale was great. I scored Orange Box for free and picked up Portal 2 for $5- that alone made me happy. I also picked up a few FPS for super cheap that will most likely collect dust in my backlog.

Chantelise, Bastion, and Aquaria will be moved to the front of my backlog. These are three games I've been really looking forward to playing.

Well, so far the coupons are not working even tho it is now the 2nd. If they really do wait until after the sale ends to activate the coupons, they can go fuck themselves.

Didn't get too much this year:

Psychonauts: $2.49
Defense Grid DLC: $2.20
Rock of Ages: $2.49
Worms Crazy Golf: $2.49
Sequence: $1.24
Dungeon Defenders DLC: $2.95
GTA San Andreas: $3.74
Puzzle Agent: $1.24
Well, so far the coupons are not working even tho it is now the 2nd. If they really do wait until after the sale ends to activate the coupons, they can go fuck themselves.
Well, they are located in Washington, so it's still the 1st there for 2.5 more hours ... after that, let's beat them if they still aren't working =)

I'm so tempted to pick up several of those $2 and under titles just for the hell of it, but I must refrain myself. If I don't, I'll end up getting $20 worth!
Well, so far the coupons are not working even tho it is now the 2nd. If they really do wait until after the sale ends to activate the coupons, they can go fuck themselves.
I would be more upset if the coupons did work tomorrow. Waiting until the last day of the sale to activate would be even sillier than waiting until the sale ends.

From what I heard the hat is worth almost $100, I could be way off though.
From what I heard the hat is worth almost $100, I could be way off though.
Yeah, you're way off. It's ~$10 tops and going down. Was worth a bills, now 6 keys (Bill's still fetches 7 keys).

Gotta second the recommendation on Shatter. It's a great Breakout/Arkanoid game.

As for my haul:

 • Puzzle Agent 2
 • Fallout New Vegas: All DLC (I couldn't resist for ~$12)
 • Deus Ex Human Revolution (via Amazon's deal)
 • Deus Ex Human Revolution DLC: Missing Link & Tactical DLC (via Amazon)
 • Sequence (ugh)
 • Rock of Ages
 • Bulletstorm
 • Sonic Generations
 • Dungeons of Dredmore & DLC
 • ...and several previous indie bundles

I did about 25 achievements with roughly 6 or so I left on the table. Some weren't part of the gift bundle and others were just broken or impossible. I netted a copy of Defcon, three coal (7 I crafted into a coupon), and the rest coupons. The best coupon I got was 33% off of Skyrim, so hopefully that's a daily deal in the coming months.
Bastion is pretty, but Lara Croft: Guardian of Light plays better.
I don't think it's fair to compare the two with each other because they have some rather different core mechanics differences.

Having said that, I think they're both really cool. Lara Croft was a real breath of fresh air and a great twist on the Tomb Raider series. The action was fun and I really liked the puzzles. I haven't played as much Bastion but it's fun so far. I for one looove the soundtrack and really, really dig that narrator.
I found the narrator guy worth $5, aha...I know, lame.
It's already a solid game but the narrator gimmick puts it over the top.
Yeah, you're way off. It's ~$10 tops and going down. Was worth a bills, now 6 keys (Bill's still fetches 7 keys).
Do these "TF2 hats" do anything besides change the aesthetics?
