Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?
Dad gum it, I wish I had bought the Longest Journey bundle when it was on sale.
I didn't even know about it. :(

Haul:

Warner Bros Pack - £39.99 (Bastion, Bastion’s soundtrack, Batman: Arkham City, Arkham City’s Nightwing and Robin bundles, Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY, F.E.A.R., F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (plus Reborn DLC), F.E.A.R. 3, F.E.A.R.'s Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate, LEGO Batman, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, Lord Of The Rings: War In The North, Watchmen: The End Is Nigh 1 and 2)
Bunch of Heroes - £1.26
Defense Grid (plus DLC) - £2.99
Dungeons of Dredmor (DLC) - £0.49
E.Y.E. - Divine Cybermancy - £1.24
Jamestown (DLC) - £0.49
Demolition Inc. - £1.99
Space Pirates & Zombies - £1.74
Two Tribes Pack - £3.22 (Toki Tori, Rush, Edge)

I also won F1 2011 which I managed to trade for Disciples III and Renegade Ops.

Final spend - £53.41 A bit more than I'd intended, but the majority went on the Warner Bros. pack (which got pulled within 24 hours of release). I'm happy with everything apart from the Two Tribes Pack - I bought this just to get a couple of achievements but wish I'd just plumped for Edge instead. Oh and Bunch of Heroes - shouldn't have chased the achievement.

Overall, I'm very happy with the sale. The coal/coupon system was a bit of a mess, but provided some excellent opportunities. I hope they repeat it next year, but with an added layer of scrutiny to stop abuse of the system.

Hey all,

Long time reader. Second time poster (first was iPad).

Thanks to ya'll I've double my steam library. My wallet does not thank you but I did get stuff at greater than 50-60% off.

Dejobaan Games pack (AaaaaAA, 1... 2.. 3..., etc)
Binding of Isaac
Grand Theft Auto Complete
L.A. Noir Complete
Saints Row (not from steam but steam activated)
Spacechem
Universe Sandbox

Mata Hari (not sure I'm going to use this game, may be better to trade)
25% Valve x2, 33% Valve, 50% Valve
50% Shogun 2
50% L.A. Noire

Happy Gaming.

Saw my Steam library grow from half a page to almost 2 during this sale thanks to Steam and Amazon. The gift pile got me to play some smaller games I would have overlooked, but enjoyed immensely!

I ended up with quite a few coupons, many of which I don't need and would be willing to trade if anyone needs them.

I've got:
Skyrim 33% off = $40.19 (was the Steam sale price during the sale)
Bethesda 33% off
Rockstar 50% off
Torchlight 75% off
...and a few more.

PM me if anyone's interested.

I have 33% off Valve, 50% off Valve, 50% off Hacker Evolution Duality, 50% off Supreme Commander 2, 50% off Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platinum, and 33% off Renegade Ops. If anyone wants to trade, message me.

Before this goes much further, I'd like to remind my CAGly pals that there's a Steam Trading thread for this sort of thing.

Perhaps this isn't much of an issue since a new Steam thread is probably on the horizon. Nevertheless, I figured I'd throw out the reminder before anyone starts getting upset; After all, this trading stuff isn't going away anytime soon, right?
Is Steamgifts safe? I notice it asks you to login using your Steam account, which makes me worry about hackers...
Generally I think of that as meaning it's steam approved, since you are logging in through steam pretty much. But I have no real clue on the matter.

Not sure if it was mentioned not that many people will, I won't for one but indieroyale pre-orders are up.

The titles to be offered will include a premium blend of FPS and RTS (Steam for PC and Mac),
an innovative single-player puzzle game (Steam for PC and Mac, Desura for PC, DRM-free PC and Mac download),
an award-winning 2D platformer (Steam for PC and Mac, plus an enhanced version for Desura PC, DRM-free PC and Mac download)
and a world premiere on PC/Mac for an acclaimed arcade shooter with a twist (Desura for PC, DRM-free PC and Mac download).

Hey thanks... didn't know about that thread. 15 minutes until no new deals. *sigh*
Is Steamgifts safe? I notice it asks you to login using your Steam account, which makes me worry about hackers...
I heard it was safe, but I'll be damned if I am using my Steam login info on some third party site.

I can personally tell you that steamgifts is safe. Not only have I used the site frequently, but I have won a game and I received the game with no problems at all. It uses your steam info to make sure you don't enter for games that you already own and so that if you were to post a game people could check your inventory to make sure you actually have it.
I heard it was safe, but I'll be damned if I am using my Steam login info on some third party site.
You don't. The site redirects you back to Steam, which you log in to (or confirm your log in if you're already logged in) and then Steam sends them information that IDs you. Your login information never leaves Steam.
Why sign in through Steam?
By signing in through Steam, www.steamgifts.com will be able to identify you within the Steam Community and retrieve your public gameplay information (such as stats and achievements).
Steam will not reveal your username or password to this site, rather a unique numeric identifier will be shared. You should never enter your Steam login credentials into a third party website!
The first game in Indie Royale is definitely Nuclear Dawn.

Since everyone seems to be posting what they got, here's my haul:

Bought
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Binding of Isaac x2 (one was for a friend)
Dungeons of Dredmor plus Diggle pack
Sequence
Toki Tori
Xotic

Traded for
Bastion
Poker Night at the Inventory
Hoard
Bunch of coupons

Got as a gift
Borderlands GOTY

(Also picked up HiB 4 with the HiB 3 and Cave Story+ and Grat. Space Battles extras, but that's neither here nor there.)
actually might be just certain games, was doing that while trying to download Medieval 2 Total War but when I paused that and went to download TF2 got a good 1.5-2 mbps and finished pretty quick and now the same for Empire Total War
No, that was my overall download speed based on Speedtest.net. Now it's up to about 9Mbps. Grrr.

I can confirm for any that are wondering, coupons from the holiday sale do work on games on sale. I have a 25% off Konami coupon that works on the daily deal.
Post Apocalyptic Mayhem is the Midweek Madness 75% off - $2.49
http://store.steampowered.com/app/91900/

I'm kind of disappointed that it's a racing game and not a car combat game. Was hoping it would fill the void before Twisted Metal releases. Anyone have any opinions if it's worth 2.49? It's only got a 44/100 metacritic score.
It actually is a car combat game of sorts, since eliminating competition helps you score higher than finishing 1st.

Personally, I think it is solid for what it is, but it runs like crap on my computer (which is 5 years old, so somewhat behind the times.)

44/100 is shockingly low for P.A.M. It isn't broken, it looks decent enough, it has a bit of personality, and cars/weapons act as you would expect. It's competent at what it wants to do, but it doesn't stand out as being something special. If I want to do a bit of racing combat I'll fire it up every now and then, but it just doesn't hook you like you think it would. Still, for $2.49, if you want to add a game of this genre to your library you could do worse.

didn't get much this sale.

I picked up Portal 2 and The Ship. I also got in a trade Universe Sandbox.

I decided to take it easy this steam sale...
Does anyone have a coupon for PAM that they don't plan on using? I'd like to pick up the game. :)
I do! Add me on Steam and we'll work it out when I get home. Coupon is gone, folks.

Damn, I forgot to buy The Ship during the sale, but bought a ton of other games. I see it says that it came with two giftable copies, if anyone has an extra giftable one, I'd be interested. Thanks.
I do! Add me on Steam and we'll work it out when I get home.
I already bought the game as part of a 3 pack, but thanks for the offer! What was the coupon anyway?

Alright, I guess it's wrapup time for me. This sale was good to me, but I really really preferred the summer sale gimmick. The coupons and possible free gifts? Just not cutting it for me. Would rather have definitive prizes, even if they're kinda silly.

Anyway, onto the games:

Purchased:
Orcs Must Die - $3.74
Defense Grid: Awakening + DLC - $3.99
Dungeons of Dreadmor + DLC - $1.87
Deus Ex: HR - The Missing Link - $3.06 (GamersGate)
Just Cause 2 - $2.49 (Amazon)
Dungeon Defenders - $1.99 (Amazon - though I wish I had gotten the Steam version for the pets)
Dawn of War Platinum + Soulstorm - $7.45 (via Trading with an Awesome CAG)
E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy - $2.00 (towards Child's Play, from an Awesome CAG)
Dungeon Defenders DLC - $.073
Serious Sam Gold - $3.99

Total - $31.31 - A bit more than I expected to spend, but well worth it.

Gifts/Trades/Prizes:
Sequence - Part of a trade for DOTA2 Beta
Orcs Must Die DLC - Part of a trade for DOTA2 Beta
Jametown DLC - Part of a trade for DOTA2 Beta
Dungeon Defenders DLC - Part of a trade for DOTA2 Beta
Bit.Trip Beat Soundtrack - Part of a trade for DOTA2 Beta
Space Pirates & Zombies - End result starting from DOTA2 Beta Trade
Anomaly: Warzone Earth - Traded for Coal
Half Life 2 - Traded for Coal
Half Life 2 Ep. 1 & 2 - Traded for Counterstrike: Source

So yeah, can't complain at all about the sale this year - I made out like a bandit. Still, like I said above, I much preferred the summer sale gimmick. Felt way more honest, fair and worthwhile. I hate gambling on my prizes - it's no fun when people get screwed out of stuff for silly stupid coupons.

Thanks -- exactly what I wanted to know, although I share KaOTiK's concern.

I wasn't going to do it, but here's my haul post:

Portal 2
Orcs Must Die! +DLC (thanks for the recommendation, CAG, this is great)
Psychonauts
The Witcher: Enhanced
Torchlight
Avadon
Prince of Presia: Sands of Time
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Bit.Trip.Beat
Assassin's Creed
Freedom Force Pack
Mata Hari
Inside a Star Filled Sky
Defense Grid DLC
Dungeons of Dremor DLC

Trades:
Coal for The Whispered World
Coal for Half Life 1
Coal for -50% Lego Batman (hopefully it'll daily deal)

Game Rewards:
-25% Valve
-50% Bunch of Heroes
Sega Genesis Collection Pack (already have what I want from this, so I'll trade it down the line.)

Total cost: $52. More than I was planning to spend, so I passed on the Telltale complete pack until next time.
I wasn't going to do it, but here's my haul post:

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this, once you get around to playing it. I was strongly considering it myself during the sale, but just couldn't bite. I'm not a huge fan of shooters, but the mechanic is so intriguing, that I can't help but be interested in it.

I gave it a quick play, but haven't gone into it deeply.

I like the idea behind the setup. For anyone who doesn't know the concept: you start as a little creature who moves through a maze which is inside a bigger creature. When you get to the exit of the maze you become the bigger creature, who moves through the body of the next creature, and so forth -- like matryoshka dolls.

The power-ups you collect inside one creature become the powers you have in the next level. If you lose you go back tot he previous creature and collect power-ups that are more helpful.

It's a neat idea.

Overall I find the game mechanics tedious and kind of slow (this says a lot since I'm not a big fan of shooters either -- although shooter might be a misnomer. There are a few enemies in each level and they move in patterned formations.) You move slowly, shoot slowly, and move through mazes until you reach an exit to the next level. There might be better power-ups that make the mechanics a little less frustrating, or maybe it'll grow on me with replays. For two bucks I'm not terribly disappointed, but I'd suggest waiting for the next sale before purchasing.
Bought too much, spent too much, now I need a larger hard drive for Steam games (I have a 1TB drive that only has Steam on it).
I just back up larger games to my spare hard drive and delete the local content if I'm not going to play it for a while. Just right-click on the game in your Library and it gives you the option to back up the game files.

Otherwise I just redownload games I want to play since you are allowed to do so as many times as you wish. Some games do come with DRM with limited activations (which typically can be reset) but those are few and far between.

The game is sort of a hybrid of a racing game with Twisted Metal. I'd compare it more to Mario Kart, but there is a lot of importance placed on destruction to the point where the person who destroys the most competitors can beat the person who comes first in the race.

The unfortunate thing is that, unlike Twisted Metal or Mario Kart, most of the weapons the cars have available require another car to be near them. Each car gets one front, one side, and one rear weapon. However, due to the size of the tracks, cars can become very spread out, meaning you either won't have many opportunities to use your weapons or you'll have to stop and wait for others to catch up so you can, which seems counter-intuitive to a race. I keep hoping they'll release some demolition derby type maps, as the racing portion of the game could use some tweaking.

I don't dislike it enough to tell you not to get it. I have had some fun with it, especially when I was able to play with a friend. However, those reviews you read make some quite valid points. The game only has four maps, the physics can be a little strange (hitting a wall brings you to a full stop?), and the racing mechanism isn't well thought-out. Though, the developers have been more responsive than I would've expected, and it's only $2.49...

Thanks! I'm having trouble redeeming Hamilton, but will do it later. I didn't like the demo anyway.
