Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

AOE3 on Steam is quite a surprise move by Microsoft. Sure, Fable 3 is on Steam, but it's certainly an acknowledgement that Fable 3 on Steam was a good thing. Now, if only they'd do the right thing and scrap that pile of junk known as GFWL and fully support DD retailers with a reasonably good client.
Has anyone played the UFO games that came after X-COM? I enjoyed those but never played X-COM before.
I played xcom but never UFO, is it worth getting extraterrestrial and after-light or is one better than the other?

Also I only played xcom for a bit, but anyone with access to the game Rebelstar:Tatical Command will find the game quite familiar (it is practically a game boy advance XCOM).

I find that with a lot of older games where there is zero nostalgia in it for me, it's usually archaic systems and mechanics which ultimately turn me off. It's one thing to have to use a bit of hackery to get the thing running and/or running in a decent resolution but it's another to be forced to deal with decade old control schemes and the like.

I like to split the difference and find a new(er) game of that ilk so that you still get that nice core experience but the rough edges are smoothed and modernized. (Avadon is a good example...or in the case of X-Com Xenonauts is a good example)

They always fall short in some way, to much disappointment.
It's not some blind nostalgia that keeps people coming back to it, I know most players would love and prefer an updated version that was even on par with a game that came out almost 20 years ago.

Xenonauts is indeed a promising example, but it's not out yet except in beta form, so nobody really knows. It might just be a disappointment like all those others.

I remember my first experience with an X-Com game all those years ago... I started up a new game, unloaded from the games transport ship and made it about 5 turns before I proceeded to die a very horrible death. Good times.

Also, it's taking a different approach to the setting (which is a little disappointing to me) while still maintaining the classic x-com gameplay.
I agree. X-COM is tied with Civ 2 as my favorite PC games of all time, and while Firaxis has done well in reinventing the Civ formula, nobody has come close to what the original X-COM provided. And speaking of Xenonauts, while the geoscape and menus have been upgraded, the screenshots of the tactical map look atrocious. I prefer the blocky pixelated look of the original over a half-baked isometric look in higher resolution.

I heard Lead and Gold wasn't worth installing let alone $4.99

My buddy complained about getting it for free. Said the online was completely dead.

Lead and Gold is great but it has been cheaper (and there was a free weekend once), and you're lucky if you can find more than 2 servers with people on it. TF2 comparisons are off; there're only 4 classes and it's almost all run and gun. Still, fun and looks good.
I heard Lead and Gold wasn't worth installing let alone $4.99

This is correct.

I tried Lead and Gold during the free weekend which I believe was around last spring. I'm always a sucker for American West-themed media, but L&G was disappointing to say the least. It felt sluggish (was not PC performance) and that the concepts within it were loosely defined.

It seems as though I was the only one to enjoy Lead and Gold... I got it pretty early in its life and the online was usually quite easy to hop into. For what it was worth, I thought it was a fun game and a neat take on a simple class based shooter.

Granted now with what appears to be dead online this game looses over half of its appeal. I do not recall if it has single player options or not. I thought I recalled playing it by myself and not online but I honestly cannot remember.

I like how my Steam gamertag is likely to empty out soon, as I've been playing the ever-loving crap out of Skyrim on my husband's Steam account.

Skyrim. Is. Amazing.
It was $1.99 as a daily in the Summer Sale I think, just as a heads up.
I hosted a 10-pack of L&G which came out to $2 each in November 2010, and that's the cheapest it's ever been. It's kind of shallow; wave after wave of bots come at you, and you have to lug randomly-spawned treasure back to your hideout while fending them off. I played it for about an hour with one other person for the summer achievement--he was the only person I could find--then uninstalled it. TF2 is free now, and while there's enough to make it different, I would still recommend that over a $5 game with little online activity.
Everyone has Portal, HL2 Ep1 and, HL2 already. ;)
okay i have Dead Space 2 and Oblivion GOTY! and, uh, the orange box. everyone want's that right?

For what it's worth, I liked Lead and Gold. The single-player is nothing. Just the stupid wave survival with gold lugging. It's unplayable alone and is meant for two-man co-op. You can't get up alone and can't shoot while gold lugging.

The actual competitive team modes are kinda fun. Some good team objective shooting action. But for how dead it no doubt is at $5? No way, Jose.

The best part about Skyrim is it is amazing right now. Just wait till the official mod tools come out and we start seeing some real mods for it. Then the amazing factor just goes up :D.

Oblivion had this problem where it was good, but the reason it became good was because mods made it good. Morrowind needs mods but that's because it's so old and I can't blame Morrowind.

Also finally got my Space Marine downloaded. I played like an hour so far and I am impressed. It's basically Gears of War, minus the cover and with a crapload of enemies coming at you. You feel like Space Marine in this game. I really dislike gears of war, but Space Marine is right up my alley.

I'm really enjoying being a part of the community and excitement right now. My husband and I are playing the game at the same time, and several sets of our friends are playing it. A coworker of mine is playing it. It's EVERYWHERE.

And mods? I've never really played with them, being new to PC gaming. But Skyrim with amazing mods would definitely warrant a revisit long after I'm done.

You can rest assured that the first Skyrim mod will be nude characters. "This game is amazing! Definitely worth buying on release day! What should I name my character? Oh look...here's a nudity mod already." People just want to see Boromir nude, I guess.

Now what gamer in their right mind would want to see that majestic, beautiful, goddess of a character nu--wait a minute... YES PLEASE.

In all seriousness, you're probably right. I admit I'd be curious lol... But not about Boromir... Ewww...

There was a nude mod out in the first few days the game came out. Nude mod+ master pickpocket = lol

When you become a master pickpocket and pick the last perk in that skill tree you can pick pocket equipment people are wearing. So you pickpocket their clothes and they just walk around nude.

Being new to PC gaming, I actually would be interested in DS 2 and/or Oblivion GOTY myself.

haha, whenever I go to a city or town, all the females are doing their daily routines naked. Always puts a smile on face haha

Of course nudes mods are some of the first for Skyrim, it's like a neckbeards world that replaces his real life except in this one he actually gets to talk to women so they might as well be naked.

I'm pretty sure I'd be discombobulated having nudies all around Skyrim. I was already surprised you could rip the clothes from their backs after death. And now to find out you can take their clothes off after pickpocketing at a high level? Now that's hilarious. :D

I was wondering if anyone had any info about a site called "intkeys" (.com) that sells game keys for Origin and Steam. Are those kinds of webpages scams or legit?

Just curious...

just traded someone the orange box for a dead island key. first i bought someone a $1.75 game and traded them for renegade ops here on CAG, then traded renegade ops for the orange box, then for dead island.

Well, my first thought after hearing the website's name was "Oh dear." After all, there are tons of scam websites that offer serial keys at ridiculous prices. However, this one looks like it's trying to be legitimate. However, I didn't read any reviews on the website itself. Therefore, I can't answer your question concerning the legitimacy of the website.

The prices don't look better than your average Steam or Amazon sale. My suggestion is that you're better off sticking to bigger-name websites, like the aforementioned two. The more you venture off, the more you scatter your information, which make you and your accounts vulnerable. That alone should be motivation to stay simple.

I hope this helps, despite not answering your question fully.

EDIT: I did a quick search for reviews, and they are mixed. It seems some people have had success, and others have not. One person commented that the user agreement doesn't protect customers against faulty keys. To amend my previous comments, I'd like to recommend not using IntKeys. Thankfully, websites like Amazon, Steam, Direct2Drive, GOG, and GamersGate make it easy and safe enough to be a CAG; There's no reason to venture into precarious territory.

A lot of Dead Island keys that have been traded recently aren't legit.. The illegitimate keys will activate, but they'll be removed from your account. I hope you made sure the person traded you a legit key.
