Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

yes the dude had a ton of good rep. but could i contact steam support and have them make sure it's okay? would rather lose $1.75 then have anything bad happen to my account.
I'm pretty sure I'd be discombobulated having nudies all around Skyrim. I was already surprised you could rip the clothes from their backs after death. How would you feel about dressing up as Link and wielding a lightsaber and doing the Party Rock dance and fighting dragons modeled after Spyro?

Skyrim mods rock. Even now before the toolset is out. And even if you don't want to utterly destroy the default experience there are quite a few optimization mods and resolution enhancements that make the game look and run much better than default. Don't be turned off modding just because some people like their werewolves to have penises.

Sounds pretty terrible, but I wouldn't let that dissuade anyone from using other mods.

All of this talk about Skyrim has me wanting to pick it up now for the PC. I just sold my 360 copy and will probably try to pick it up from Steam. Might see if anyone has it or coupon for trade.

If you don't already know, you can transfer your save game to a usb drive, plug it into your computer, and use a piece of software to extract the file and use it on the PC version.

Really???? That is awesome! I would have never thought of doing that. You've definitely convinced me now to pick it up since I will not lose all of that time I spent on the 360 side.

Definitely make sure it's still working. If PC Skyrim is a couple of versions ahead of the 360 one it may no longer work. I know people were doing this a month ago though.
omg that video makes it like 10x better
Doesn't it though. Mods like this is why I have moved towards PC gaming, albeit on my iMac :)

That Skyrim mod. I would consider downloading it although I know every time I see the dragon, I would be too amused and I would die of laughter which means I would die in game

Also really hoping Bethesda puts out the official mod tools soon. I kinda want to get my hands on it, see if I can learn something.
Yeah, saw that on IGN earlier. If you haven't seen the video, you have to check it out. The sound just makes it awesome!

Lol that is awesome.

I'm surprised someone took the time to do that. No we just need them to reskin the high level bears as Hulk Hogan and let them go at it.

Wait, don't forget to make the Giants Andre the Giant.

It will be like Wrestlemania, all over again .

Also Space Marine is annoying me control wise. You have a blade which is fine and is bound to right mouse button. Then it wont detect the other buttons on my mouse for proper binding. I wanted to bind zoom to one of my other mouse buttons but it wont allow it.

So I tried a gamepad to make things easier and of course, I am going through hell to get it to work with x360ce, lol. I will try later.

Damn, I bought this the other day without realizing that it doesn't have gamepad support. I just assumed that it would without checking the steam page.

Bytheway, Deus Ex: HR is on sale at Green Man Gaming for $12.5.(steamworks)

Are you talking about Space Marine? It has perfect controller support. If you're not talking about Space Marine, though, ignore me :)

I haven't played Space Marine yet, but from reading Sir Frag's post it seemed the game doesn't have gamepad support. I hope I'm wrong.

It has 360 Support. Just no regular gamepad support. I run a Logitech Rumblepad and well configuring it is hell. 360 controllers work fine.

tbh, at this point the 360 controller is the controller to get for PC gaming and I'm fairly ok with it being the only controller supported out of the box in most games these days.

The 360 controller always felt way too bulky and awkward to me. Being someone who grew up on the PlayStation, their controller is much more compact, and just feels much more natural.

For me it's the d-pad and the d-pad placement. I can't stand both the 360's d-pad and the placement of it.

Sure not a lot of modern games use it extensively, but there are a lot of platformers like Meat Boy or Cave Story that would drive me insane with the 360's d-pad.

Before my buddy introduced me to x360ce, I was considering a Razr 360 pad, but wasn't looking forward to getting used to it. Now I'm using my old Logitech dualaction, which I greatly prefer. I may end up buying something new anyways, since Super Street Fighter IV Arcade has me beating the hell out of both the Dpad and my left thumb.

I'm a Playstation guy and I just plug my Dualshock 3 into the computer and use motioninjoy to make it emulate a 360 controller. Works perfect in every game I've played but Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, but you can get it working if you change some settings tho.

I have around 50 Skyrim mods installed.
Ha! Finally a use for a coupon - 50% off Hydrophobia, for a final cost of $1.52. How can I not buy it?
Exactly, just did the same thing.

Any man who doesnt like the 360 controller is only complaining because they have small hands...and you know what they say about men with hands
they wear small gloves
. (j/k :))

Seriously though, I have no problem switching b/w the PS3 and 360 controllers virtually daily. And yes, the 360 D-pad is utter rubbish, but there is at least one (really two) case(s) where the 360 D-pad makes a game easier to play than the DS3: Batman Arkham City (and likely Arkham Asylum). Because you have to select the gadgets on the diagonal, it's nice that the 360 has the little notch there. Without it, it's a bit harder to select. Not a huge deal, and I'm sure other PC pad have the notch and are not rubbish, but just wanted to throw that out there.

On topic: this is the first time in years that I didnt buy a single thing from the holiday sale. Not a big deal as I still have a huge backlog anyway.

My bad.
Hydrophobia is the Risk: Factions of Steam sales. How many times has it been on sale now for like $3?
Not only that, but it was free for PS+ subscribers.

It's worth pointing out here that Civilization V, a Steamworks game and therefore redeemable on Steam, is $9 at Amazon this week. This is the "download" version, which I believe is just a key for Steam.

Also, the GOTY edition, which contains most (but not all) of the DLC released to-date, is $25.

It's covered in the Amazon deal thread.

There's no chance that's because there are a few thousand Hyrdophobia coupons out there now...

Just curious, but what fucking idiot are you quoting there? All downloads are digital. Anyway, I'm just going to drive to the shops in my ground car, cya!

Whatever man! I downloaded the analog version and it wouldn't boot up, had to redownload the game and make sure it was the digital version :D

Ha! You can take it up with Amazon, it's what they call it.

Although modems use analog technology (telephone audio) to transmit data between two points. So I could make a strong case that you're incorrect, sir.

Hydrophobia isn't worth much more than the coupon price, in my opinion, just to repeat my thoughts on it. Felt like a generic action adventure third person shooter but with all the lousy filler parts that fell out of a better game. The water effects are good and the emphasis on hiding and trying to do environmental kills (Shoot the explosive things next to dudes, shoot wires so they fall into water shocking dudes, shoot broken windows near dudes to kill them with water.) is a bit novel but by the third act it goes full bore shooting game.

PS3 and PC version is superior for the extra content but we're still not really into real game territory. It's a decent way to spend a couple of hours though.

I tend to agree. It is more of an interactive story rather than a game, which is fine with me. Don't know if I'd pay money for it, but I don't mind that I got it free with my plus membership.

To be an interactive story, you actually need to have an story to speak of. Even a Michael Bay standard set of stock character arcs and over-engineered romances would be preferable to what Hydrophobia gave us in the story part.

I started up Bastion today to really get into it. It's also available for $6 at Green Man Gaming.

So I have conflicting opinions on Bastion. On one hand I am really having a great time with it and really enjoying it. On the other hand there is this challenge mission that tests your skills with your shield and well I quickly learned this game has horrible autotargeting sometimes with the shield and needless to say that mission ruined all the fun I was having with Bastion and turned it into frustration. Now that that's finally complete, I think the game will go back to being real fun.

Civ 5 is also on their "Best Sellers of 2011 List".

Basically, you can get Civ 5 for $4, if you have the $5 off coupon. ;)

So if you bought something from Nov 2011 to Dec 2011 from Amazon download that qualified to get a special coupon, you got a $5 off coupon for any "Best Sellers of 2011 List" coupon.
That coupon, you can use to use on those "Best Sellers of 2011" games now.

Also to make note, if you don't mind waiting for DLC to go on sale. I would highly recommend getting the vanilla version now for $4 (if you got the coupon) and then waiting for the DLC to go on sale instead of getting the GOTY pack.

I've given each of the challenge missions a shot as they've come up, but they really do drag the fun out of things. Fortunately, they aren't necessary unless you really, really want to get everything possible in the game. I'm content to run around kicking ass on the real islands.
