CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Indie Bundles thread on Steam forums (link)

Might Grab Crysis 2 tomorrow depending on the new deals. Since I've read on the forums that the maximum edition is DRM free. Also tempted to Grab Chaos theory but not sure if I can use a controller for it. Was gonna grab Double Agent as well but I read it wasn't that great. Anyway if anyone can confirm if chaos theory works with a wired 360 controller I'd appreciate it.
I'm confused. What's the difference between this Monkey Island that's on sale and the one that was on sale a few days ago (that I bought)?
The one from a few days ago was for the Secret of Monkey Island 1 & 2, which are the recently polished up (new graphics and voice acting) versions of the original / first two games in the series by Ron Gilbert et al.

The one up now is for Tales of Monkey Island, which is the episodic fifth entry into the series by Telltale games, who got the license from LEC.
So all the talk that Motoki has been doing about Coconut Queen has actually piqued an interest in some of the casual games on Steam. If Kingdoms Of Amular doesn't go on sale, I'm gonna be left with a good chunk of money left over in my budget. I'm actually thinking that I might pick up a few casual games while they're on sale. Can any of you think of any publishers of casual games besides these four?

iWin - Makers of the famous Coconut Queen.
Popcap Games - I already bought the compleat pack a few days ago. So I'm all set with these guys.
MumboJumbo - I'm considering this pack as well.
Big Fish Games - These ones never go on sale at all. So I'll almost certainly be passing on these.
I wanted Emerald City Confidential but it's not on sale at all.

Anyway, if you find any other decent ones let us know!
The problem with the steam group is that people who aren't forum members are getting in because they see giveaways at steamgifts and then inviting other people who aren't on the forums.

You can always specify in the description that if the winner isn't a CAG, you will request to reroll the winner.
I've been thinking about this for a while. I don't really want to be unwelcoming or be to much of a micromanager nazi over it, but I do agree it is getting a bit out of hand. The first contest I did had 20 people. My current one has over 100 and it's only been a couple of weeks since I did the first one.

The group existed for a long time and while part of it is that some people simply didn't know about it, obviously the giveaways are encouring everyone and their Coconut Queen and Bad Rats to join.

I don't think ever single person who enters needs to be posting all day every day, and some of us probably do post too much (why I have no idea who such a person might be ) but chiming in every so often or at least trying to be a part of the group would be nice.

I almost feel like we need a new group, but I guess a purge would work too. I just feel like a hard ass dumping people out but I agree something needs to be done.

The Penny Arcade Forum group is really hardcore about it and WILL request a reroll if someone they doesn't recognize wins. At first I thought that was rude and over the top but now I totally see why they do it.

Hmm. :whistle2:k
Well, we could always create a CAG ultra-elite group and only invite thread regulars.
Yeah I am kind of leaning toward this and that we have to recognize your name or at least you have to post a few times and contribute something beyond 'Can I have an invite'. I don't want to be too hardcore but we are getting a majority of leechers entering these contests now.
So is tomorrow the last day of new deals? There's only 10 indie bundles right?
23rd is the last day of the sale, so the 22nd should be the last day of deals.
Yes, I won the Magicka Collection! Thanks NocturnalRisk! It was on my want list. :D
You avoided buying it the 8,000 times it has been on sale?

Congratulations. There should be an achievement for that.

Cool, I actually won something: Crusader Kings II. Thanks Walkonshadows!

Does anyone know if any of the DLC is worth buying for this game? I'm definitely going to try the Game of Thrones mod once I get around to it.

I'm disappointed that every daily deal today is a repeat, was hoping for at least one new deal. That said, I'll be buying Far Cry Complete, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, and Splinter Cell Double Agent. I forgot to look for older Splinter Cell games when it was on sale earlier, and if Far Cry (I think it was) or ITSP were on sale before, I missed them.

Oh man. Good impulse control so far today. Haven't bought a thing. Though that might change as Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet counts down.
So is tomorrow the last day of new deals? There's only 10 indie bundles right?
I believe that's the case. In the past, the last day of a sale is a recap day.

Well give it to me too. Still haven't bought it yet. I almost grabbed it when you did the code drop a month ago, but I was few seconds too late.

I also forgot to enter all of walkonshadows last round of giveaways. :(
Coconut Queens

Well if we're going that route, it should be "Coconut Queens & Brawny Gents". Gotta be inclusive of both the male & female posters here.

The Succulent Fruits?

Actually, a less obvious name in all seriousness than CAG might not be that bad of an idea...
I think the minigames differ. And I'm not sure if every mini game is in the iOS version. And yes, the mini games are awesome.
Thanks. I haven't even made it thru all the minigames in the iOS version of PvZ; they keep updating. So I think I'll pass on this version.

Too long?
oooh! The group name, Brawny Gents and Coconut Queens, is available!
Don't make me be ashamed to join this. ;)

I will also say to be careful with "newer" members. Up til recently I was a "lurker" myself. I knew about CAG before becoming a Steam addict (thanks to finally building a new custom PC, last one wouldn't even run WOW), and would visit the forums every week to check out new deals. I even got to post a few for like when NewEgg or Amazon had a good deal on PS3 controllers. There was a RadioShack deal I posted twice on the same controller. The point being that even though I've been a CAG for 2 years now, it's only been the past 6 months (if that) where I really started to "contribute". Everyone can't contribute to the level the regulars here do. I'm not above creating a group that recognizes the reg's for all the work they do, like updating OP's and such. But I would caution against splitting the community. The new people coming here for these giveaways are at the very least being exposed to CAG, and I've only averaged around 70 entries for my giveaways, the CAG Steam group has 1,400 members. I just know from experience that just because you don't post, doesn't mean you aren't an active member of the community. Just the traffic newer members generate to this site is welcome, is it not?

Steamgifts is crazy right now because people are still giving like they did when it was new. I was thinking the most simple thing that would tone it down over there is using the contributor feature. With the far majority of games requiring nothing more than a valued steam account, even just $0.05 cuts down every giveaway to 1/4 the size. It would also be a bit of reciprocity to other CAGgers.
I say this with 0 contributed ATM.

THANKS AGAIN TO NOCTURNAL RISK/WALKS ON SHADOWS FOR THE GIFT!

I know this is the wrong place to ask, but I need a little help.

I downloaded Steam and DCUO on my PC and its laggy as heck. I turned all the graphic settings to low and changed the resolution down as well.

I really dont know the specs on my PC but do you need to have a good graphics card to even play the game? I don't need it to look anything special but just to have it playable would be great.

This group name would def have my vote lol

I entered because the trailer was awesome, but I was pretty concerned that the actual game doesn't have that guy narrating the whole thing and I wasn't sure how I'd like it. Congrats, Sax!

However, I have already benefited from some of the other CAG giveaways this week, so I'll start trying to give a couple things back. The SS games are longtime favorites of mine for their multiplayer. Barely ever even tried any of them in single player mode.

I think the general idea is that we'd like to limit the giveaways to people we talk to and share games with. I prefer to think that it'd strengthen the group and encourage people to take part in the discussion here.

Yeah, I have no problem with it.

It doesn't necessarily have to be cag related so people don't get the wrong idea. Just like minded gents and queens who enjoy like minded games with like minded dispositions. Agreed?

First thing you should know is that the graphics card will not solely determine how well your PC can play a game. I recently upgraded my CPU and RAM and can now play BF3 at max settings (before it barely played on Low). It really depends on the components you have to know exactly what is making the game run so badly.

It may be best to visit the Build-A-PC thread though as that is the place for these type of questions. You can ask any questions just about computer hardware there, you don't need to be building a PC or anything to ask questions.
What is this? Christmas in July! Thanks walkonshadows, you're very generous. :applause:
Forgot to mention, 4 copies/each giveaway, great odds. The last 4 CAG giveaways I've done have averaged 1/16 odds.

I like this idea. And a creation of a new group would in no way mean you can't submit giveaways to the old group. It would probably mean less giveaways to the old group.

One thing though is that if people are part of the CAG group they may not be a member or even a user of CAG. If anyone can invite then people can invite someone not even remotely related to this site at all. I'm not saying everyone is doing that, but it is always a possibility.

Point taken. I was warning about ostracizing those who's initial catalyst for joining was the giveaways. But, yes it would encourage participation. To work though, you'd have to limit the admins, and only those trusted admins could invite, has to be very active person. I vote CheapLikeAFox for starters. All in favor...

I think I remember seeing this being brought up here before, but is it possible to change a game that you've never downloaded or played into a gift so you can send it to others? I have a game in mind that I regret purchasing and don't want anymore.

Part of the problem is anyone in the group can invite anyone in so we don't even know if it is getting traffic here or just getting more people into the giveaways. I mean someone could get in and invite 10 friends and they 10 friends and so forth.

I don't want to be non-welcoming but I also really mean for this stuff mostly to go to regulars or at least people who will contribute something at some point.

The contributer and group giveaway to further limit it might not be a bad idea, but then again and everyone and their brother gave away railworks recently so there's a lot of contributers out there now too.

And Risen wins the vote. I'm on a real roll. That's three picks in a row I've made that have finished in last place. Good thing I didn't care which game won in any of these votes.

I mean I can attest that most of the people requesting invites from me are just interested in the giveaways. They have all been CAG members and most with some sort of trade feedback. I get that not all CAGs are going to contribute a lot, but at the same time I think the giveaways we do in this thread we would feel better about if they were won by someone who we recognized.

And don't forget the ShadowGrounds episode, everyone and their momma has contributer status now. It would have to be limited by group, and having a CAG Gifter/Contributer group isn't a bad place to start.
