CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Anyone have any thoughts on Anomaly: Warzone Earth?
it's really really good. It's basically a tower defense game, except instead of building the towers, you control the mobs running through them. I really enjoyed it, so much that I bought the game on the 360 and pc.
I'm with you there. I love the music on Fallout, but I just wish there was more of it. Maybe music mods to at least compile Fallout 3's oldies soundtrack with New Vegas'? I outta look that up.

Radio stations... I guess the few number makes sense due to the world having been destroyed mostly, lol. I think New Vegas would have more though, true.
There's a few radio station mods for New Vegas that are pretty good. The Secret Stash radio basically adds a bunch more similar tracks to the radio station run by Mr. New Vegas (forget what it's called).

My personal favorite is 640-1240 CONELRAD. It's chocked full of music from the nuclear era (songs about atom bombs and anti-communism). They also threw in some authentic "civil defense" radio PSAs from that era with celebrities like Johnny Cash and Groucho Marx encouraging listeners to do their part.

Helps remove some of the repetition you'll get from the vanilla radio stations.
So is the Just cause dlc worth it?
Looks like all fluff, but for $2 couldn't resist. But dosn't look like it adds anything really like needed.

I was really hoping for Far Cry 2. I'm sure we will see it in a Flash deal, but damn.

Voted for TDU, but hell if the price is right I'd take any one of them.

Still debating whether or not get Train simulator with all the hype surrounding it...

Is it better to get just the normal game or the Deluxe / Haulin' Pack?
Would like to try the game, but not sure if the extra bucks for the Packs are worthy enough for just a tryout.

Woo, they adjusted the discount on the Just Cause DLC to 75%! Not that I need it, but who can resist a hover craft? (I picked it all up, but really, hovercraft.)

Personally I just got the deluxe version and there seems to be a ton of trains already with random numbers I have no idea what they are. All I can really say is if you get the deluxe and the free dlc. Do not pick the very fist train on the top of the list.

It was some like old coal train that went 7-8pmh >.

It's really a great game and it's got a load of content with just the base game.

It's a sim, it's all about making it to various locations on time and dealing with operating the trains in different situations with weather and day.

It's not arcadey and it's not fast paced.

Ahhhh Need for Speed! Today is going to be bad!

Just Cause 2
Anomaly: Warzone Earth
NFS (if it wins)
Limbo, if I can't resist.

That is before the day has really even started, too...
Nope.

This is genuinely the first voting ballot that is a little incompetent. The Torchlight demo gives you a lot of gameplay to see if you like it, and getting both games for $15 is the best deal we're gonna see until next summer, likely. Not only that, Torchlight 2 looks to antiquate the first game by adding multiplayer.

Oh well, I suppose it's still a fun game for a good price, just not very cost effective compared to the TL2 preorder. Then again, a lot of voters may not have known about that offer.

Come back soon, Oblivion!
I thought that the pre-order was $20?

Goddamn The Walking Dead is good. I was already pretty iffy on the TV show and now I have no clue how I'll stomach that turgid mess when it comes back on after playing the game.

Yes, BigSpoonyBard so kindly 'gifted' me that damned Cricket game.
Yay woke up with Just Cause 2 on sale. Knew it would be sooner or later.

Also I literally had no idea Cricket was a real sport.

Me too! I thought people really do this? And made a game about it too? Oh England. You so crazy.

The US lines that come with the haulin pack are rather nice. I tried some of them out. Some people may even recognize some of those locations. Plus the pack comes with the base anyway and their DLC almost never goes this cheap.

Still, if you're really afraid to splurge @ $7 for the trains, there are some free DLC as you pointed out.

I agree with you though that it all could be arrange a little better in terms of the screen where you see what DLC is what and select them.

Perfect, I'm a big fan of the comic and loath the TV show.
Jut have to get back to my desktop to enjoy it, the game runs like crap on my laptop.
I'd probably pre-order Torchlight II, but the Mac version will be released after the PC one is launched, and there's no official date (yet). By the time the Mac version is available (maybe before Christmas?) it might have some sort of deal?

Or maybe not? Any feedback on this?
^ Anyone has comments about this?
Don't tell me that. I already felt bad for passing on it. Haha.
Sorry, but he's right. My brother gifted it to me a while back and so far it seems like Telltale's really hit this one out of the park. Yes, it's basically an interactive movie with a few puzzles thrown in, but the art style is great (think 3D Borderlands) and the characters are interesting if a few seem recycled from the television series and the original story is great. I think the show and the game both capture the atmosphere of Kirkman's comics quite well. If you think Telltale's done anything worthwhile, you owe it to yourself to check this out (even if you wait 'til it's cheap :D).

I love Torchlight and gladly pre-ordered it but until Runic can lock-down a proper release date for II I have zero incentive to purchase early. (other than how quickly Diablo III degenerated into a total shitfest but that's another thread;))
Considering how often Torchlight is on sale, getting Torchlight 2 early seems inefficient.
Torchlight came out almost 3 years ago. If you want to wait 1-2 years, sure.. it will be on sale all the time!
^ Anyone has comments about this?
Depends on what kind of sale you're waiting for. By the time Steam's Christmas sale rolls around, I'm sure it'll have at least a 33% discount, but it might be too early at that point for 50%. If you've already played or have little interest in the original game, there's probably no reason to pre-order.

Yeah I'm going to hope that it goes on sale again. Right now I'm all focused on NFS Hot Pursuit. I want that to win so bad.

I'm betting at least 50% off by winter sale, if not more. No need to wait that long IMO
Is it really worth getting more than just 2K4?

I know that's only an extra six bucks for 4 more games, but is there a great reason to go back prior to 2K4? (I've heard 3 is kind of weak, as well in comparison to the prior games)
Heck yeah it is. You get two full singleplayer games (unreal and unreal 2), one of which is an absolute classic. All the multiplayer games (Tournament) have singleplayer components with great AI bots, a myriad of gameplay modes, and an amazing number of mods. It could take you years to go through all the content that's there in the game and available for free online.

If the pre-order costs $19.99 and comes with a free Torchlight I copy, buying Torchlight I now at $3.74 wouldn't actually be bad if Torchlight II is at least on a 33% sale at some point this year (after it's launched), the game would cost $13.40, so adding Torchlight I (on sale right now) would be less than $19.99 ($17.14).

So any sale that, added with today's sale, would be less than what the pre-order costs.

Makes any sense?

Are there high chances of Torchlight II being on sale for Winter?

I got interest in both games, but since Torchlight II doesn't really have a specific Mac release date, don't know how long I'd have to wait. And then there's the part that I'm a CAG...
Anyone have any thoughts on Anomaly: Warzone Earth?
It's exceptional and of a higher quality than most indie games. However, it's been in a bundle before so it's possible you'll see it in another one.

There is, of course, a downside to buying all your games as inventory items to be opened when you're ready for them. Sometimes steam doesn't feel like letting you open them.

Look, sure there are probably a hundred titles in my library I've never opened, but nothing is going to do a better job of making me want to play one in my inventory than a message like that.

I totally missed that when I was first deciding what to pick up  Assumed the Hauling USA was just the DLC. Oh well there is still a ton of tracks and trains in the base game and free dlc(So everyone should pick up the choo's). Maybe even too much..Though the Donner pass does have flying trains soo :wall:

You can get in on a torchlight 2 4 pack for 14.99 and you get torchlight 1. Check out the steam trade thread.

Also I would bet torchlight 2 is 50% off by winter sale

Yeah, I ran into that just a few minutes ago. If you right click on the page, and select "Reload", then try again, I think that got it to work for me.

Well, I suppose it comes down to how CAGgy you're feeling. My take on it at this point is that if you enjoyed the first game and want to play it, do a pre-order and it's basically like paying $10 for each. More revenue now may actually encourage the dev to get the Mac port out faster (although I could also just be talking out of my ass).

The other factor to consider is that if you already have a huge backlog and you haven't played or finished Torchlight yet, you're probably better off waiting on a good T2 sale--unless you love Torchlight so much you are compelled to be an early adopter.

My personal feeling about Torchlight is that it was better than Diablo but ultimately lacked a sufficiently-interesting story to sustain all of that mindless clicking.

Really disappointed Torchlight won. It's not that Torchlight is a bad game, it's just with all the improvements of Torchlight 2, there really isn't a point to play T1 nowadays.

I want to buy the GTA Complete Pack just for 1 & 2, but I don't feel like paying $6 each for just them. I own the rest for either PS2 or PC. Really wish publishers other than Valve would offer additional copies to people who purchase additional licenses to a game.

I see. I guess that if I could wait three years to buy Torchlight I, I could probably wait for a 50% or more sale on Torchlight II.

Thanks, fellas!
Aren't GTA 1 and 2 Freeware now?
They are? I'll need to looking into that :)

Also, does anyone know why Steam removed all the non-steam games from my library? I believe it happened after an update.
