CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Indie Bundles thread on Steam forums (link)
Total War Bundle is tottaly worth it at that price, Infact I almost spent 12$ when I picked up a few pieces of dlc for shogun and empire and napelon when the sale first started and the dlc was only 40% off as everyone thought as it was a daily sale it couldn't go any lower xD
They are being a little trickier this time around separating out the older Total War and Elder Scrolls stuff from the new on different sales instead of doing franchise sales, but then in most other cases they are doing total franchise sales.

Maybe they figure Skyrim and Shogun II are big enough titles that they generate a lot more interest in the older games? I don't know.

Oh and btw, Shogun I is not on Steam, right?

Does the misadventures of pb winterbottom (ridiculous) ever go more than 50% off? It's currently at 2.49 so the price isn't the issue, but I just want to know...because, well...I'm cheap.
No, that would be Fallout. :)

It feels nothing like Skyrim.... or Fallout...

Comparing stalker to fallout 3 or skyrim is a joke. The stalker series is video game gold compared to bethesda's garbage.
Strong opinions abound. To clarify, the RPG elements in the game are not the main point. It's a FPS first and then has other elements in it, including RPG. But it definitely has RPG feel to it and more than your usual FPS.

I can't really speak on how others think the game feels. In Skyrim I ran around with a sword speaking to people, killing them, doing missings, advancing storyline, etc.

I do the same thing here but with a gun.

Same thing with Fallout, but Skyrim and Fallout are way more heavy on the RPG parts of the game.
The Seventh Indie Bundle is 75% off has me thinking. Has MineCraft ever been on Steam?
Nope. Minecraft is pretty much just through mojang. I don't recall it ever being sold through anything else.

STALKER note, the Steam forums said all additional DRM is patched out of the games at this point.

And Bundle Cost note, for $0.03 I'm buying the games separately, so I have individual inventory items. This is an advantage ATMO so I can unpack one game at a time and pass on the others if it's not for me.

Edit: The bundle price changed because, if I remember correctly, the oldest game has a different publisher so the previous bundle wasn't complete with all three games.

It was on sale during a holiday sale once for $0.49 iirc

In years past all the older and more obscure and/or indie titles which weren't getting dailies pretty much went 75% off. Not 100% of the time, but it seemed to be the majority of them. This year they chintzed out a bit. Part of it is the flash deals because there's an extra layer of deals now but there's still a ton of stuff at 50% or less that I'm pretty damned sure will not be getting a daily or flash.

Anyway, if PB Winterbottom gets DotD I imagine it will be 75% off, but that could be in a week, or a month or a year or never. That's really hard to predict.

But those pennies! You'll regret it when you love all 3 games and know you wasted 3 pennies!

Ya I really hate these new packs more so the 50$ ones because it's just picking and choosing was really hoping at the start of the sale like it would be all of 1C catalog not just a few of them.

Sadly not Shogun 1 is only retail, Though I do have that one on cd was the best random gift I ever found on the side of the street. Though back then only way I won the games was by save/reload ultimate ninja assassin.

But ya if you own none of those or only like just one that pack with all the total wars are amazing and best mods for each one is

Rome - Barbium Europa
Medieval 2- Stainless Steel (Amazing AI, and tactics and more realistic to a point)
Empire - Darthmod
Napoleon- havn't check but guessing prolly Darthmod too for it.

I think I remember it being 1.24 during one of their winter sales, but I could be smoking something. LOL.

Notch has said in the past that he wouldn't put Minecraft on Steam because he wanted to be able to update it frequently or something along those lines.

I think P.B. Winterbottom is a pretty good puzzler. I got it for $ 2.49 a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. It's worth its current sale price. It might never get to $ 0.49 again.

Yeah, I bought it for $1.24 according to my account history.
I have a job interview in about 2 and a half hours. If Driver wins I will wait to leave for the interview till that refreshes so I can buy it. If not I will head to the interview. Either way wont miss any flash deals but I would like to know if I should grab another Steam card while I am out.
I'm pleased to confirm that I've just finished interviewing Sir_Fragalot and I'm delighted to be able to appoint him as my butler.

He'll be:
- toasting crumpets;
- pouring cups of tea;
- baking Yorkshire Puddings;
- relaying the cricket scores to me when I can't get down to Headingley;
- and other great, jolly japery.

I'm happy to contract out his services for four pounds seven shillings and tuppence per day once we've got settled in.

Pip pip!

fixed.

Buying Stalker Call of Pripyat (I love Shadow of Chernobyl) and the Dead Space pack. Am also taking recommendations on one Thief game and one Total War game. Which would you all say is most essential? I'm leaning towards Deadly Shadows.
fixed.
Don't know why, but for some reason I thought of this:

EDIT: By the way, I feel compelled to buy Fortune Summoners but have actually no idea why. Has anybody actually played it? Or did we all just add it to our wishlists when it was released because it looks shiny-and-a-bit-like-Recettear?

I'm also interested in the Thief games, are they good? And do they run on Windows 7? Fallout 3 still saddens me...

After GTA Complete and Just Cause 2 yesterday, and now Stalker: Clear Sky and Sins of a Solar Empire today, as well as a pending 75% off Oblivion, the sale has sucked me in. Prior to this, I had things under control.
$2.49 Fable The Lost Chapters
$1.99 Arx Fatalis
$4.99 Tribes: Ascend - Steam Starter Pack
$5.99 Legend of Grimrock

I feel Steam is now in total control of my wallet. Seriously, this is getting out of hand now.

And it SUCKS that I have original Thief and Thief 2 retail discs which may or may not work on my current rigs. I do NOT like buying games twice.

Medieval total war 2 with kingdoms is my favorite out of that pack. Tons of units tons of different nations. Not to mention when you get used to the game it has the best mod for any total war game. Stainless Steel which will ramp up even more options.

But you really want to get it with kingdoms as it allows the mod, and also adds in new scenarios like playing as one of the numerous native American tribes in South America or as Spain when they first invaded.

Nothing beats watching a swarm of 10k nearly naked guys with nothing more than little stone hatchets and bows charging 2-3k Spaniards with guns and steel armor and cannons .
Already have Reccettear (and yes, it's good get it unless you hate Anime then stay far away)
I really, really, REALLY hate anime.... guess I should miss the other two? (have Reccettear from an indie bundle)

It was that cheap during the winter sale in 2010, which was when I bought it.
Dead Space is a 12 hour flash sale, they aren't usually this long during the day are they?
Ugh, 12 hours to wait until the next flash deal for that slot. No they aren't usually that long, but I've noticed some have been longer than others such as Duke Nukem Forever IIRC (but I can't remember if that was at night?). Jade Empire can't come soon enough!

On the fence for Stalker and Theif, can't quite hit the buy button. At least I have time to decide, lol.

Here's to Far Cry 2 and Jade Empire showing up sometime.

I'm gonna download the Napoleon Demo....

I've never been able to trust that the Total War games will run properly, especially on my laptop.
If it can run Napoleon well, it should run the rest well :)

I think the problem today is that there really isn't anything I'm interested in. My best hope for the day is that Sim City 4 wins the community choice.

So what's the deal with Age of Empires: Online? Isn't there a ton more DLC that you need to really enjoy the game, and that Steam used to offer but apparently no longer does?

The "bundle" that's currently on sale seems to be mostly cosmetic stuff, or things to make the game a bit easier. Would I have to buy all the DLC expansions elsewhere if I wanted the full game?
I bet most of that was on Railworks DLC.
I don't know why I laughed so hard at this. Haha.

Well, they did a pretty good job at making me want things I didn't know I wanted. I got Limbo, Anomaly, and NFS:HS today. I resisted Just Cause 2, but I probably will regret it shortly. That and Sins Trinity at $5 is tempting, but I'll probably resist that in the end.

Out of the whole Carpe Fulgur Collection, which game is the "must-have?" and the one that doesn't/won't go on sale too often? I think I only can get one. :(

And does anyone care what wins the next community vote? I'm won't be getting any of those games.

The full game plus DLC went F2P a few weeks ago.

I would say make sure you can run the game, I tried to instal the game but when I launched it through steam and tried to log in. It kept saying I needed to enter in my cd key, only you never get one through steam to give to games for windows live. So could never even sign in to the game.

Apparently it is a very common bug if you check out their forums and steams forums. After a hour of trying to just log in to a free 2 play I gave up myself.
The full game plus DLC went F2P a few weeks ago.
there is still stuff you pay for (Civilization packs). You can try to earn them in game but you might die of old age first.

This stuff on sale is a total waste, cosmetic crap.
So Skyrim with guns in a post-apocalyptic world? Is it basically Fallout 4 then? ;)
As others said, it's more FPS than RPG. And the feel is far different than Fallout. Instead of the retro-future aesthetic with neon and "Radiation King" radios and lasers, wise-cracking ghouls and Raiders with punk haircuts, you have mile after mile of Soviet era bleakness, men huddled around fires in old jackets and balacavas, a notable lack of women around and a generally more depressing environment incorporating some horror elements further in. It's really a different feeling and a different game experience from Fallout.

It's also a lot less forgiving of a game in combat. You can die from a head shot before you know what's up if you're not paying attention.

Recettear is the "must-have" by far. Get it if you don't have it already.

Not sure if this has been posted already (since I have no chance at keeping up on this thread) and I am sure everyone wants to spend more money still.

Orcs Must Die 2 can be pre-ordered for approx. $9 per person when you buy the 2 pack from Gamersgate and use the IGN Prime 15% off. The second gift has to be gifted directly via e-mail or to a Gamersgate buddy but this is a Steamworks title so activates on Steam. The actual price paid is $9.56 per person but you get $1.20 back in blue coins hence the approximately $9 per person. That is 40% off! Great deal imo for a great game, can't wait for some co-op goodness!

Never played any of the Total Wars games a not a lot of strategy games in general.
If I already own Shogun 2, does it make any sense to play the older titles that are on sale right now?
I don't imagine there's a amazing story in any of them and the game mechanics must be similar across the franchise, right?
