CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Voted for Orcs Must Die since it looks kind of fun, but no multi player and also Orcs Must Die 2 (with multiplayer) comes out July 30. I kind of still want to pick it up if it goes on sale to try it out, but with 2 coming out soon I don't know..

From the Orcs Must Die 2 steam store page:
"Unlock 10 co-op classic levels in Orcs Must Die! 2 by purchasing the original Orcs Must Die! on Steam!"

So there is a perk to owning the original Orcs Must Die. Although in order to actually play those levels in co-op I'm sure your friend would have to own the original Orcs Must Die as well.

voted for warlock, guaranteed to have at least 1% of the votes now.

4 hours of looking at Lance Armstrong's :booty:. I think I'll pass on this one.

I just noticed that the last version of this thread died on my birthday? Is that an omen? Aww crap someone is gonna gift me revelations 2012. lol

It's worth owning just to play the original campaign in co-op once you buy OMD2.
since unreal tournament didn't win the vote earlier is thier any chance it'll go on sale by sunday ?
It was a flash deal for 75% off earlier this week. It'll probably be on sale again, if not in the next few days then definitely in December. Unreal Deal Pack usually goes for $10 and includes every game except UT2K3.
We usually start like this, "Hi my name is _____ and I have a problem."
Hi. My name is Steven, and I have a problem. I have an addiction to buying great games for 75% off. My wallet left me, my car begs for food, and I find myself sitting in a dark corner just staring at my growing collections of games. I'm here today because just when I thought things would return to normal, I went ahead and bought Morrowind for 5 dollars.

Which actually I'm pretty happy with, been wanting it.
Any thoughts on Bulletstorm?

It's a juvenile shooter with interesting weapons and a story that's somewhere between tolerable and dumb.

But it IS fun.
That's actually a pretty good explanation. I'll add that the game looks amazing and it's not overly long (a plus in my book). The MP component consists of a good idea coupled with the horrid GFWL. So it's pretty dead, of course.

What you really need to know about the game, however, is that there are outrageous guns (these guys made the original Painkiller) like one that shoots a chain with grenades on either end, a sniper rifle with a steerable bullet, a quad-barrel (yes, four) shotgun, and a whip-like leash. These make the game quite fun and the core component of the gameplay is killing the bad guys in the craziest ways possible.

The biggest knock against it other than the stupid dialogue and plot would be that you're restricted to two guns at any one time. In a game all about creative killing, I'd think you'd want to be allowed to carry as many as possible... but that's just me. And now this is turning into a mini-review.

Crazy guns, looks cool, blow stuff up for cheap.
Oblivion works great on 7 and a laptop ( that's my set up for the moment), I would think Morrowind would be no different.
Thanks! It's good to know that they'd run even if I'm most likely gonna gift them anyway. (Call me paranoid, but I'm still wary of steamgifts asking for my steam stuff to actually sign in there. In due time...I can just do a giveaway any time of the year right? Not just during the sale.)

Gotta love the sale. Just had to replenish some funds to my wallet. My excuse is that this is the first steam sale I've really splurged on.
And were on sale today when MP3 was a flash deal.
Damn so I missed out twice? I didn't think about it till I noticed I got my Max Payne 3 CE in.

Vampire, Morrowind or Oblivion?
I'm tempted with all 3 deals, but since they're all RPGs, I think, It will be better for me if I buy only one. I'm on the fence with that decision. I doubt I will play any of those games in next 6 months.
re: Civ V

I mean to comment on this before, but some stuff on Civ V from a former Civ noob.

Don't be intimidated. It's your game and it's very configurable so set it up however you want. If you don't want a huge map or a ton of other civs to play against at while you are learning then scale it back and play a smaller game. If you don't want to deal with barbarians early on while you are learning then turn them off. etc etc Nobody is watching you so play the game the way you want to play it and how it works best for you.

Don't feel bad about playing on the easier levels. You are learning.

Use the advisers. They really help. I wish every strategy game had them. I'm sure every hard core strategy game player just cringed at that, but they really do help and I've tried a number of other strategy games that I have no flipping clue what I am doing and could have used some advice.

Don't feel like you have to play a game through to its end when you are just getting the hang of things. If you just want to go 50 or 100 or 200 rounds in and call it good then do it. As you play you will get better and you will feel like 'Oh I should have done xyz early on now that I know better'. That's fine. Go with it and start over. It's not a waste to abandon one game to start a new one because that old one was teaching you.

Don't stress over the DLC. It's nice to have but you aren't missing anything essential and you can grab it on a sale later on down the road. Ditto for Gods and Kings. That does add some new gameplay and a whole bunch more civs with unique bonuses, but again it's not essential. Play the base, if you like it grab G&K later down the road when it gets cheaper.
That sounds like good advice. I'm going to give the demo a row tomorrow to see if I'm capable of playing it and go from there. I have no problem dumbing down a game and using all the tools I can if necessary. I like to game for enjoyment not to feed my pride. I don't enjoy rage victories like I use to. That doesn't mean I don't like a challenge I just don't enjoy frustration.

I still might pick up the GOTY edition if I really enjoy the demo. I have a hard time passing on DLC- when it really adds to the game. It's a stupid annoyance I have- I don't like the thought that I'm missing out. Thanks for all the advice, it's really appreciated.

Bytheway, I finished CQ- that wasn't a cliff hanger, it was an unfinished game. I'm super disappointed that it ended like that. I'll read the links to see what he had planned, but to end a great game like that is a shame. I'm really bummed that that is it. No more CQ. I'd throw some serious loot down on 2. If their was ever a reason for kickstarter it's to get some conclusion to this captivating story. I'll stop because I don't want to ruin the journey for every one else. Sucks that I'm left with so many questions, and answers on a blog.
The sudden realization that I am 125 dollars into this sale and there are two days left...AND I want to spend ten more dollars right now...
Yeah I'm not too far behind. $105 so far on 24 games and 7 DLC's and I'm waiting to get stuff that has been 60% to 75% the whole sale until Sunday.
If you bought morrowind you might as well get Oblivion because there are mods out there that basically let you run morrowind through the oblivion engine.

But you have to own both to make it work.

And yes, I wound up buying both. oops.
Very true, but I know that one of them will end up sitting in my library unused for a long while due to just how extensive they both are. I wouldn't want to complete Morrowind and then jump into Oblivion right away afterwards (even though it's kind of like buying an expansion of the game). So my thinking is that I'd be buying Oblivion just to be able to run an upgraded Morrowind, because I wouldn't touch the game itself until it goes on sale yet again. But it's so tempting...

Roll the dice until you get a 1, 2, or 3.

Morrowind rarely goes on sale. Your next opportunity to buy it might be a couple of years. VtMB hit a daily or weekend sale this past year and was discounted last winter sale. Other than that choose the game you might actually play between now and winter, or the one that will look the nicest in your BL.

Also, I love how small Morrowind is. Out of the recent bigger games I've been buying (like The Witcher 2) having a five minute download time for Morrowind was pretty surprising xD
Is there any reason to play the previous Civilization games if I have Civ V?
Yes. Civilization IV has amazing mods (Fall from Heaven II, etc.) and an overall better, more robust systems. Civ V inovated with a hex grid, but Civ IV is my favorite of the series (and has Leonard Nimoy narrating!)

I picked up Civ IV as my first entry into the series and passed on Civ V. I cant stand games that have been 'dumbed down' for the masses and that sounds like what happened with Civ V.

Also picked up Morrowind and Oblivion GOTY. It's a good thing my wife is never home because I know where I'll be for the foreseeable future.

I was just thinking...isn't it interesting that two of the most demanded games (Morrowind and Oblivion) when it comes to discounts finally receive one...but it's in the middle of the night?

Edit: Is there any reason to get borderlands if I already own it and all the expansions on 360?

Ive wanted a sale on this for I can't remember how long.

If youre on the fence, buy Morrowind and keep it as a gift. You'll easily find someone willing to trade whatever it is you'd buy instead for it later on.

Made my summer sale. Couldn't be more pleased. :applause:

My gut would say no as BL2 is coming out soon. Personally, Id get that EARLIER than I normally would by applying what I would have spent on #1.

BL2 is gonna be insane. If you got all the DLC Ill assume you dug it and you wont want to wait on the 2nd.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but the last time Morrowind was $5 was literally over two years ago. Maybe now they've acquiesced to the lower sale price point but... you never know... you might not see that $5 sale price again for another two years. If you're even remotely interested just do as suggested in a prior post: buy it as an inventory gift and hang on to it.

I was considering a purchase of TESIII, IV or Bloodlines, but suddenly I looked on BGII+ToB box standing proudly on my shelf and now I know I would rather start playing it over again than even download one of those 3 games.

No big deal. It's still 5$ saved (CAG sense approves) towards NV:U, Witcher2 or Skyrim, which I will definitely play in future, but moreover, my will feels stronger!

Damn all of you guys recommending Morrowind. I just scraped up $5 more dollars, planning to buy Civ IV. NOW HERE IS MORROWIND AT 5 FLIPPING DOLLARS.

And don't even get me started on you Coconut Queeners.

I wasn't prepared for this sale. I never asked for this.

I really doubt it wont hit the price anytime soon, with Skyrim for a long while now, Oblivion will likely drop frequently (hell, I got the game of the year edition at half-price books like a year ago for $4, and thats a physical copy.

EDIT: Not advocating not picking it up now, but I'm just saying its not like its the only chance you'll get anytime soon.

Wow glad i checked steam before going to bed. I loved Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption, but i never did check out bloodlines. For 5 bucks i think its worth a look. Looks like its around 30ish bucks for a copy if i was gonna hunt one down. Anyone played both? Is it as good as Redemption?

Im too tired to watch that video NinjaPenguin7 put up right now but thanks for the info i'll have to see what the deal is. I do recall Redemption was a buggy mess but i still enjoyed it

BTW: for Morrowind. I have the original PC release. Its probably one of my fave elderscrolls games. The series has been going downhill since then, watering it down more and more, removing choices left and right. ( BRING BACK CLOTHES UNDER THE ARMOR DAMNIT!). I even made some races and mods back in the day, including a werewolf race before bloodmoon came out ;P As such i never did pick up the expansions back then. Do you guys think its worth $5 for a digital copy of the game with everything if i already have the core physical disk? Seems like kinda a waste unless the expansions are really good

^_^x KD

Picking up a few things here and there. But finding myself setting up for winter sale already. Great prices, but I can wait until then to hopefully see the same or better prices. Should have back log in order by then.

Bloodmoon is pretty awesome, and if you still have such love for Morrowind; then you are fool not to get the expansions!

Sounds like the expansions are worth it.. I was actually searching what the game of the year edition costs for a physical copy and thought the box looked familiar.. sure enough i had forgotten that I bought the game of the year edition several months back on one of best buys clearance deals. I think i payed

Well, the long, drawn out answer is as follows:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Does anyone expect arma II to go on more of a sale?
at this point no, but you might as well wait until the last day.

I was going to do coconut queen since everyone here seems to want it so badly, but I figured I should start small.

I do, but maybe it's just wishful thinking.

Morrowind...oh, how I have waited for thee.

And now I'm just agonizing over Vampire...I'm sure it'll be worth the $5 but I won't get to it before the next sale (Halloween maybe?) and who knows if it'll be that price again. Damn it, Steam.
