CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Method video game playing goes down some very questionable roads when you get to the GTA or Saints Row series.
This is pretty great.
Playing FEAR 3 which I bought from the summer sale at the moment. I have some difficulty getting into it. I keep wanting to play like Rainbow Six style ie. dodge and tactical. But apparently this is a game that encourage run and gun.

I have no problem with run and gun if it is set in a sci-fi setting (e.g. Halo, Doom) that everyone has armour/personal shield. But in FEAR 3 the setting the guy (ok, one guy out of the two) is a human? My mind has a hard time accepting he can soak up bullets ...

Anyone else has this problem when they play FPS like this? Or is it just me?
Personally, I feel you have to suspend belief pretty much in any FPS. I mean the first one I ever played involved a POW single handedly taking out a prison full of german soldiers! I guess if you like military sims that are hyper realistic then most "real world" FPS would be a turn off since they have to incorporate some sort of health regeneration system/scale of damage for you to be able to complete. In Sniper Elite V2 I take damage, but if I cover for long enough it just replenishes. So I am basically invincible unless I take a string of steady damage in a short amount of time. I think I'm just used to it so the scenario (sci fi, dinosaurs, etc.) doesn't make much of a difference to me.

Heh, I booted up Far Cry a bit ago and not having regenerating health was jarring.Guess it depends on what type of gameplay you're looking for, but I prefer being an uberbadass from Crysis.

OK, so someone help me here, this guys SteamGifts profile:
http://www.steamgifts.com/user/NIKENIT/new

Says he's given 70 gifts at a value of $713.29, yet his giveaway history doesn't even come close to that in number of giveaways or cost. His Steam account is Russian Federation. He created a X: Superbox giveaway for a contributor value of $1426.58, of which there are only 5 entries (myself included). How is he glitching the system. We'll see if he delivers. Probably not.

Unless he's falsifying a bunch of private giveaways and using various alternate accounts to win them, I don't think there's a way to cheat the system. But if he was doing that, one would think he'd pick more expensive games and wouldn't have received one negative.

Group giveaways don't show up on your public profile. Notice most of the ones he's won are group giveaways. I assume most of the ones he's hosted have been group. If I am logged in I see all my giveaways (all group) but if I logout, my profile shows no giveaways at all. I assume you have to part of a group to see any group giveaways created for that group.

Kung Fu Strike came out yesterday.

I was looking forward to getting the 360 version but it isn't available until September 5th apparently.

I see Spoony and Motoki have it on their wishlist as well. I want to pick it up. Anyone?
Snakemaster2389 bought it and said he's going to review it but I don't think he posted anything yet. I haven't grabbed it yet and don't know anyone else other than Snakey that did. Hopefully some reviews will trickle in soon.

Neither private giveaways nor group giveaways (if you are not in the specific group) show up on profiles. He's a member of many different giveaway groups, including PsYko's Cave (legit), SG VK Contributors (never heard of), InternetFreaks (of which I'm a member), and СтимГифтс Вконтакте (no idea). I'm pretty sure he's legit. He's also done a couple of puzzle giveaways on the forums, which I've solved.

Back in my day, we didn't have no stinkin' first person. I had to escape that very same prison, except I had to do it in two dimensions, and every time I even so much as touched a wall I'd see nothing but static and there would be this crazy loud screeching noise.

You mean you actually bought something other than Coconut Queen.
edit: Btw, I don't know if you saw my other post Motoki, but thank you. Thanks for doing what I couldn't.

As for steam sale regrets, I have none really. It was my first sale, and while I did go over my limit, I did maintain my senses and limit my purchases to those I wanted to play now, rather than later. I also rationalized that there will more sales and bundle down the line. I still have a little over 100 games on my wishlist so far. Plenty to buy next sale.
...has anyone sent him a link to this thread? or just a copy of your purchase history for the last two weeks?
lmao, I'd love to see the purchase history for it; is there a place to view that? I'd just assume no.
FYI someone in the other thread said the $6 Steamworks Rage on Newegg is the Anarchy Edition with pre-order bonuses.
AWESOME!! I impulse bought it when I saw it post, figured I passed on $15, then on $9, $6 was close enough to my magic number $5. Immediately after I bought it, I realized it was probably not gonna be the Anarchy Edition and got super depressed. Thank god I got that $1 year sub to shoprunner for 2-day shipping!
BTW, you might want to force an install RAGE from the 3 DVD discs.
The game takes up around a whopping 24 GB of space!
Dammit, I forgot about this. Gonna have to increase my Steam partition again for the 3rd time this week.
Yeah I really should give Desura a try since I have a TON of keys from various bundles

Yea, that's one of the great things about Desura. Mods become a breeze, like the Circle of Eight mod for The Temple of Elemental Evil.
Damn, I was gonna mention this, but in the 10 pages I had to catch up, you beat me! But ya, I prefer manual install of my mods, but Desura really does make it automatic and super easy.
Oh geeze, this game.

xRl8.jpeg

You should hear the awful groaning noise it makes too.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
currently arma2 co. i need to get dayz running but i have a feeling im not going to have peopel to play with and itll just get pushed aside.
lmao, I've been saving this link till someone asked ever since I ran into it while searching solutions to video problems with The Path....:whistle2:k

Anyways, hope this helps: http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_install_DayZ

Also, looks like I just won my first steamgifts giveaway! Only 22 entries and I got Nexuiz! Had 830 entries! Thanks zomgtehspy...once I get the game from you at least, lol. I had passed on it on both xbox and steam because I didn't want it enough to buy it, but saw the giveaway and thought, what the hell, free and i'll love it.

Didn't really budget myself for this (I had a lost of GS credit I was happy to use). About the only thing I kind of regret is not picking up Fable III. I actually really want to play it (haven't played any of the games), but the extra DRM turned me off.

Now that I'm actually playing Dungeon Defenders, I wish I bought the complete pack instead of a 4-pack of the vanilla game...

It feels so neutered without the extra content. I think there are 8 DLC classes, and there are only 4 in the standalone game.

If anyone regrets their purchase, unlikely as that is, I'll buy the package from you sans the actual game... alternatively if someone wants the game for the Summer Sale price ($3.74), I'll trade it to you for an equivalent value DLC.
I am curious, whats everyone's biggest regret of the sale. By this I mean which game are you sad you didn't get when it went on sale. For me its shoot many robots. I was on the fence then it went off sale before I could decide and ultimately I wish I'd gotten it.
Other than buying the SR3 pack the first time it went on sale rather than the last? I dunno, maybe Krater. Though I figure I can wait until the next time it goes on sale.

Non-regrets - Not buying Jade Empire the last day of the sale, and snagging it cheaper the next day. Last Remnant not winning the community choice and getting it a few days later from GMG for $3.00.

I will have to say, the Ys games are looking to be my highlight purchases from the sale. I had never played one before.. I started with Ys Origin. Wasn't having too bad of a time running around hacking stuff up, then met the first boss and had a blast with it.

Ahh, old school fun. I got knocked down to 1hp before learning the patterns, and had to finish the last 50% (or 75% if you count my failure to scale the boss one round) in a do-or-die, edge of my seat fight.

Regrets? Hm. I regret not buying the 4 last day games I was going to buy because of SRTT, especially since I ended up buying Jade Empire the day after the sale and went over my budget anyway. Coconut Queen could have been mine! Which stings especially since...
Oh geeze, this game.
OMG there are pandas in CQ?? So much regret.

OTOH I'm perfectly happy with all my purchases in the sale thus far, and I'm having so much fun playing them (well, at least the ones I've downloaded so far), which is great.

Though I guess some very minor regrets are HL2 ep 1 and 2, but only because it's unlikely I'd be playing either of those til much later. They're pretty low priority in the list of games I'd be playing.

There is actually 11 classes... however four (they come in a pack) are very similar to the original heroes. I had a lot of fun with that game without the dlc... but the dlc does add to the fun.

Hope that helps
Haha, I am aware of that. Still, hard to wrap my ahead around that I am under psychic shielding ...
Personally, I feel you have to suspend belief pretty much in any FPS. I mean the first one I ever played involved a POW single handedly taking out a prison full of german soldiers! ... I think I'm just used to it so the scenario (sci fi, dinosaurs, etc.) doesn't make much of a difference to me.
Funny you mention the classic prison break. FEAR 3 started off with one. I guess if FEAR 3 did not introduce cover based mechanic I will have a easier time connect with the game (or disconnect with reality) run-and-gun mechanics.
Heh, I booted up Far Cry a bit ago and not having regenerating health was jarring.Guess it depends on what type of gameplay you're looking for, but I prefer being an uberbadass from Crysis.
I guess I should play more FEAR 3 before I judge, so far (in the prison break) I don't feel too bad ass.

My first ever Steam sale. Actually my first time ever buying anything on Steam:

. Batman: Arkham City - $10.19
. Trials II 2nd Edition - $2.49

I should have bought Knights of the Old Republic :whistle2:(. I found the SteamGifts website, been entering all of my points on Half Life 2, The Orange Box, and Knights of the Old Republic.

And here I was, thinking that all first time steam sale-goers spend hundreds buying games.
i just got Kung Fu Strike and i'll let u guys know how it is ;)
wonder if it'll show up in a bundle :whistle2:k

Kung Fu Strike has a publisher that's different from the dev. While it has happened before (Shank, Bastion), it's generally fairly rare among bundles.

This is a thank you giveaway for contributors. All users that have successfully sent $1,000.00 worth of gifts are eligible to enter. Your contributions to date, $30.98.

lol wow. buy in too rich for my blood ;)

My regret is picking up the Indie Royale bundle. Puzzle Agent has very abstract puzzles with multiple solutions that aren't accepted, turning it into tedium to find the right one that is. Geneforge looks nice but I definitely don't have the time for 5 long crpgs.

Also kind of regret Burnout Paradise as it's still not fixed so I don't even want to waste time downloading.

Don't let the missing DLC keep you from Burnout Paradise. It's a wonderful game without that dlc and totally worth your time.
I also have a SS3 coupon for 75% off, won a 75% off trine 2 but was never sent it :(. Anyone want the SS3 coupon, pm me on Steam or here.

So it's a bunch of carp crap?
I have a SS3 coupon for 75% off, as well.
I'd trade you - but, you know - we both got the same coupon! ;)
That wouldn't get either of us anywhere!
We'd be back where we started!
Snakemaster2389 bought it and said he's going to review it but I don't think he posted anything yet. I haven't grabbed it yet and don't know anyone else other than Snakey that did. Hopefully some reviews will trickle in soon.

Not to stereotype, but I'm going to stereotype for a minute. :p

Beware Russians bearing Steamgifts.

Oh and finally did 'The Haul'

And for those that don't want to read the whole list and just want the real dirt, 38 copies of Coconut Queen. :p
Goodness that's a bunch of succulent fruit to go around!

By fixed I mean EA hasn't provided valve with the additional keys so from what the steam forum for the game is saying it's unplayable.
I know what I regret buying. It starts with a Jade and ends with an Empire. :bomb:
Motoki, you regret buying it because of the $3.74 sale afterwards or because you didn't like it? I still have it unopened in my inventory thinking if I should open it for me or do a giveaway on steamgifts. I remember playing it on Xbox back in the day and I liked it.

Damn, I was hoping they had fixed that and was about to install it in a few minutes. Thanks for the heads up, very disappointing.

I guess i'll just go play one of the other 20+ games I picked up during the sale, lol.
OMG there are pandas in CQ?? So much regret.
No that is Farm Frenzy: Pizza Party with the pig mascot and the whole game is a H.A.M. Hot Ass Mess.

Coconut Queen thankfully has no pandas. If it goes on sale next big sale keep it in mind because it's surprisingly a decent game.
@Motoki
I saw this on steamgifts and think you NEED IT

EDIT: Oh, and my little giveaway ends in 6 hours
I would have but I was sleeping when that got posted, PST and all that. Plus I don't have contributor status near that high yet. All the CQs I sent were direct, not through Steamgifts, although I suppose now that I think about it maybe I should have done them all through private links to get credit for them. But eh, no matter. I just sent them for fun. I can always buy a bunch of copies of Railworks next sale to increase my contributor status. :p

Because of the price difference the next day. I know I am being a total CAG about it on the one hand and yet spent a bajillion dollars on the sale on the other so it's totally a drop in the bucket. Still, I feel like a huge chump that got rickrolled and it's more a principle thing that bugs me.

Anyway, the joke's on Steam because I will be even more careful and stingier about what I buy in the future.
By fixed I mean EA hasn't provided valve with the additional keys so from what the steam forum for the game is saying it's unplayable.
However I am sure they will be more than happy to provide you a key for it if you buy it on Origin. :bomb:

Don't get me started...
Also kind of regret Burnout Paradise as it's still not fixed so I don't even want to waste time downloading.
Well, I downloaded the game just fine following the Summer Sale purchase. It runs just fine for me, and fan mods of the inaccessible DLC can be found here. (Though, admittedly, I haven't tried them out yet.)

Either way, I'm just enjoying the base game, which is pretty good. It does have the EA problem of having long logo screens and even a browser interruption during the main menu section, but that is all negated once the actual game gets going.

Having an ad show up between main menu segments is an absolutely brazen move. (I just have to throw that in one more time.)

EDIT:

Ah, never mind my post then. Enjoy the game once EA hands over the new key.

If you right click and hit view cdkey does it show you one?

Played SPAZ for about an hour. That is such a great game. I just wish the artwork was a bit better, it seems so blurry. The gameplay is great though. Really like the combination of space shooter, exploration, rpg, and rts elements.

Oh ya. That's literally unplayable. GL and GG

Aww man, I liked it better not knowing how many copies of Coconut Queen you actually gave out. In my head, I just imagined you dressed as a tropical Santa Claus (in a sleigh pulled by brawny gents) bestowing thousands of copies of CQ to nice boys and girls around the world. :D

I bought Burnout during the sale, and I hadn't played it til now. Just tested it and there were no problems except the lack of EA servers, which everyone probably knows and there is a patch for getting the DLC without them.

I was able to go through a bit of a tutorial and drive around for a few. And, when I click the CD Key section on Steam, I don't have one. It just says "Requesting key..." infinitely. Not sure what the problem should be, but I too lack it.
Gone for 6 hours and only one page of new posts. That I can handle.
Things are starting to return to normal...

For those who got the X Superbox or any of the older X series of games (before X3: Reunion)...

Were there ever any mods released to allow for your own control configurations and keymappings for X2: The Threat, X: Beyond the Frontier, and X-Tension?

I own X2: The Threat on Steam (bought it A LONG time ago) - and yeah, not much control-remapping that you can do, if I recall...
