CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

My first wish would be to not have fairies living in my colon.
I still have that saved on my computer. Watched it again just now for nostalgia's sake and noticed the purple bunny 20 seconds in on the floor above the table.
That same bunny appears in Saint's Row the Third (also a Volition game).
I was looking at that bunny on a the boat a few days ago wondering why the hell it looked so familiar!
It's a classic! Interesting, i'll have to look out for the purple bunny on the boat when I play that game.
Love this video! :applause: I remember stumbling into it after playing The Summoner. One of my first PS2 games along with Dynasty Warriors 2. Infact IIRC The Summoner was based in DnD like tons of dice rolls and like stats and such not sure if it used the actual like licensed engine though.

Also now I know why Community is so funny.
I remember stumbling upon it similarly. :) The game didn't use the licensed engine or rules but it was very similar. Eventually, I need to get around to watching that show.
You know, that game's been on my mind recently, as well. I feel quite ripped off by the GTA pack, since Vice City has no sound without the physical CD and San Andreas has the issues you already mentioned. The GTA ports are, sadly, the best examples of some of the absolute worst console-to-PC ports.

GTA3 plays fine enough, and I've even got a nice XPadder profile that mimics the PS2 controls exactly. (Thankfully, auto-aim is still a feature in the PC port.)

Overall, though, I'd rather load up the PS2 or Xbox versions of these games.
Same here. There IS a way to mod the Steam version, but it won't boot as a Steam game so it doesn't record your time and you can't use the Steam interface. On top of that, I have no patience working with all of those mods. I played around for many hours with several of them and they all look great, but have really obnoxious downfalls. The ENB mods look amazing, but they're insanely blurry and it blurs the HUD for whatever reason so you can't make it out. The SRT3 mods correct the muddy textures and they look good enough, but at the same time the textures will load very slow when you're driving fast, so the road will disappear and buildings will appear out of nowhere. That and they added cool sound effects, like random shootings in certain parts of town, but then again at the same time the sounds are messed up to the point where you hear a car accelerate for one second when you stomp on someone...why??? I know you can play with the mods, but for one, I'm not experienced enough, and two I just don't have the patience. I wish it were because my computer is too slow too, but I can run BF3 at near max settings. No excuse for this.

Terrible terrible ports. I'll just deal with it though, I loved San Andreas so much that I have to play it again.

Kings Bounty franchise 75% off
Hmm, debating if I should get the platinum version just to have the whole kit and kaboodle on Steam or if I should just be patient and hope that Crossworlds and The Legend show up in other indie bundles.

I guess a non-Steam Crossworlds (which I already own on Gamersgate) wouldn't install over a Steam Armored Princess (from Indie Gala), huh?

For those talking about GTA: I agree. I was playing Vice City and it was really really disappointing. It's so disappointing to learn that the others are pretty much the same.

If you want to have the King's Bounty games on steam, just buy the platinum. The other two almost certainly wont show up in a bundle.

Actually, in your case, you could just buy Legend & Crossworlds because you plan to get in on the IG7 bundle. You'd save a penny if you just buy those two games as opposed to getting the Platinum edition. Though I suppose if you bought the Platinum edition, you'd have an extra key for AP that you could give to a friend. So your call on that one.

As for using Gamersgate's version of Crossworlds with the steam version of AP, I truly doubt that you could get that to work. There are only a handful of games on steam where you do something like that and they usually tell you that it can be done on the store page.

75% off or bust indeed.

If you love turn based strategy/rpgs it is. I've put 102 hours in "The Legend" alone! I was a huge fan of the HOMM series and I absolutely love King's Bounty! :)

This sort of thing with Armored Princess illustrates how messed up Steamgifts really is.

Right now, I imagine a lot of people might want to get it from Steam and give it away but if they do they will get reported. IF the proposed changed went through they would then get very little credit for a legitimate giveaway, meanwhile people who spammed Railworks at a higher markdown get full credit.

Also it wouldn't shock me if people giving away Crossworlds, The Legend or the full platinum pack got reported since there are a whole lot of report happy tattle tales there who don't seem to bother to try to find out details first or give someone the benefit of the doubt.

It seems that all the threads discussing the proposed changes just went poof over there too so I have no idea what the hell is going on. What a mess.
The Wanderlust sales are being encouraged because every sale contributes some money to Starbound, which is like this amazing sci-fi version of Terraria.
Amazing and Terraria don't compute. Unless sci-fi includes a digging machine to make all the tedious grinding and digging go away, I don't think that's going to happen.

Weren't sales of Terraria enough?

For the record RE: King's Bounty. Crossworlds is pretty much AP but with extra stuff. The main campaign is the same, except there's a new faction (which means lots of new units) as well as some new items, spells, balance changes, etc. Also has a couple mini campaigns. Some purists will say that AP has the better balance and that would be the reason to get it. Anyways, the price difference isn't much, so it's really a toss up if you want to bother with getting all three, but if you do, you can at least avoid downloading both games since they're redundant.

That's good to know, thanks for the info. I completely forgot about Starbound since I don't keep up with Terraria news anymore.

Thanks, so maybe Crossworlds and The Legend are the two to play? No point in even playing the first?

Since it's essentially the same price, I think I'll just grab the pack and put one away.

My opinion is, if you don't have Legend, just get Legend this time. As Evildeadjedi said, Legend alone is a super long game. By the time you have finished Legend, the next sale will be around the corner :)

As for Crossworlds, it is a different matter. It is regarded as a booster pack for Armored Princess, making Armored Princess a richer experience(ie. Armored Princess 1.5). Recommended for first time Armored Princess player. Some have said that if you have played through Armored Princess, however, only dedicated fan would find much value in getting Crossworlds.

For me, I have Legend already (only played half of it) and contend to only get Armored Princess from IG7 bundle.

Hey, isn't King's Bounty that other thing everyone was dreading would go on sale right after the steam sale?

So, Jade Empire AND King's Bounty. I think the steam people read this. And are trolling everyone.

If by everyone you mean Sophita then yes.

I'm actually not sure if anyone else was going to grab it on the sale but I know she agonized over it and feared it would go on sale after the sale and it did.

Wonder if someone at Valve is lurking here...

Could just be because it's in a bundle though. They seem to love putting bundled games on sale because I guess its a lazy thing to do. Like phoning it in on the sale.

The Legend is the first game, AP is 2nd, Crossworlds is 2.5 I guess.

No real reason to play AP unless you just are a hardcore purist, or you want to see the differences.

I'm gonna stick to keeping all my giveaways group only. I don't want to have to deal with douchebags who ignore your attempts of contact and then 3 or 4 days later, they leave snarky posts on your profile.
Just Cause multiplayer is...amusing. I wouldn't call it "fun" until they fix the syncing so everyone in an aircraft doesn't just grief everyone on the ground.
Yep, as soon as you lost an aircraft, the fun was no longer to be had. One thing I noticed that needs fixing was using your grapple to connect thing together; it would break much too fast, and my guess is that it's because the vehicles you attach it too aren't considered NPC vehicles...

I'd like to make sure its known that this is just the Steam versions of the games. The actual ports themselves were fantastic, I used to play vice city/san andreas on pc all the time with countless mods and even with the multiplayer mods for each. I never had ANY problems with the vanilla games or with them modded to hell. I'm certain if you guys are having issues, its with the Steam copies specifically.
I had that bug too, luckily you can fix it by simply running the game in DirectX 9 instead of 10. (Which would be a big deal except that it's only for one boss battle, so I didn't care)
Damn. I did not know about that solution. I deleted the game some time ago (and it was on a different PC) so I can't imagine myself going through the entire game again... but the info is good to know, thanks guys!

In saying that, I could just play Crysis Warhead.... hmmm

I have always assumed this is the case, and Jade Empire going on sale 1 day after the Summer Sale ended was as close to proof as I feel that I'll ever get.

The Steam deals thread at CAG is one of the biggest, most active game discussion threads on the internet, and it's steam-specific. While ppl at Valve were probably too busy during the summer sale to read every post, There are a few games that CAGs are always groaning about never going on sale: Jade Empire, Call of Cthulhu, and Morrowind. Even if their employees just casually browse our disussion thread over the past few years, they would know what our community wishlist looks like. :)

(cries) OH NOES!!!!

I did it accidentally...

I beat all the levels on coconut queen. I totally didn't mean to!

Time to find another Steam game to get into :)

 Funny thing is as soon as I saw Jade Empire on Daily I knew this was coming. But now anyone who has a interest in Heroes Of Might and Magic should jump on this for 8ish dollars your getting over 100-200 hours of amazing turn based tactical battles. :D

I wonder if 1C is going to be more bundle and sale friendly now; As they also have the Indie 1C bundle going as well right now.

Keep requesting it in here.
Maybe Valve will lurk here & just throw the CAG request-line a bone, again. :D

EDIT:
Matter of fact, if Valve's reading...
I'd love to see Driver: San Francisco at $5 or less;
Assassin's Creed Revelations - Gold Edition at $10 or less;
and Krater at $5 or less.

I thought it strange that Kings Bounty would be on sale when its currently available in the Indie Gala bundle. I guess the minimum to get it has risen to nearly $7 there.

A short sequence of events:
• I decide to spend my Saturday playing Gemini Rue.
• I somehow get anxious about playing through a game everyone seems to like so much, and wonder if I'll have time to do it in one sitting and other excuses.
• I end up reading the AdventureGamers.com top 100 list, and all of their yearly awards, and making some notes about games I don't have and/or have never heard of, especially those not found on Steam.
• I browse the dev sites for some of these games, like METAL DEAD, which is of interest particularly for it's 2-man dev team.
• I find out it was in a bundle I've also never heard of, Bundle-in-a-Box, which looks like a good one. I'd want to play a bunch of those.
• I decide to come to CAG and see if anyone has a spare Bundle-in-a-Box.
(this is the part that might be interesting)
• Having been checking in every day to see when the "Buy just 1 game" Build-a-Bundle day was going to happen, I notice that:
º PITMAN has been unlocked for all purchases
º They have added SHADOWS ON THE VATICAN and METAL DEAD to their offerings.
º Two more games, THE VATICAN and DEADLY 30 will be added tomorrow.
º Build a Bundle now only requires you to purchase two of those, not three.

Just seemed like some crazy timing to me, but it also makes the http://groupees.com/bab2 a better deal, imo. Only some of their offerings come with steam keys, I should probably point out. Syberia II *does,* which is the game I'd previously been waiting around for.
Ugh GTA: San Andreas is so poorly optimized for PC (at least on Steam). I understand the dated graphics, but the textures are really muddy looking (especially when you look at Xbox or PS2 graphics), the textures load super slow sometimes to the point where I was driving on nothing on a few occasions and buildings literally pop up out of nowhere, and a lot of glitches I don't remember experiencing in the past.
Strange, I didn't have problems playing San Andreas on my PC back in the day. Course, I haven't played the Steam version, so I don't know.

Same here.

I played GTA: SA on my older Win XP PC.
Ran fine, back then.

I haven't tried GTA: SA on Win 7.
And I don't have the Steam version, either.
I got GTA: SA from Retail.

Funny enough, GTA: SA is the only GTA game I ain't finished since GTA3.
Oh, wait - I ain't even began GTA: Lost and Damned, either.

I played Vice City on PC a long time ago, not on Steam, and it worked. Haven't tried the Steam version of it yet, I did try San Andreas Steam for about 30 minutes and aside from the crappy controller support it seemed ok if you had frame limiter enabled. Just sharing my experience with the games.

It was already suggested that the issues people experience with the GTA games are specific to the Steam releases and that other PC ports of the games play fine.

I'm ashamed. I got to the last mission on PS2 and I kept dying so I turned it off and never finished. I'm sure I could beat it now but I guess I ran out of patience.

I am so far out of the loop when it comes to pc gaming (just recently starting up again after years on consoles). I had no idea this bundle existed. Are there any other bundles I should be checking out besides this, indie gala and humble bundle? Thanks.

These and Indie Royale (which is active now) are the big 4.

There's also Bundle in a Box which has had only one bundle so far, and Indie Face Kick which people have concerns about because of past unscrupulous advertising on their site. But if Humble, Gala, Royale, and Groupees are on your radar, those are the major ones.
