CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I don't think there are "dailies" in this weekend sale. The end date for Airline Tycoon 2 is Monday August 13th, instead of sometime tomorrow. For example, Tropico 4, including DLC, is also on sale for 75% off

I'm glad Magicka is a daily deal, not weekend/midweek, that's good tendency. Additionaly, they discounted deeply the new dlc (The Other Side of Coin and 4 robes and items packs). Good enough for me.

Not trying to stir anything up on the pc/console thing, but I love being reminded how awesome PC gaming is. Someone just posted a "deal" on Binary Domain for $26-$30 on the console. It just reminds me how it has hit $9.99 already for the PC DL.
That is crazy, I also forgot to mention trying to lower ,"pre-rendered frames" to 1 in nviada control as well. But as long as it works and you can play we'll count that up as a victory! :bouncy:Even if this has to be the pickest game on what works and what doesn't.
Problem is I have to live with the blue border around the screen, can't find a way to make it borderless. I don't want to play like this, I could probably deal with it but it's not worth it. Going to just write this one off, at least I got to play it on PS3. $5 down the drain, could be worse. Thanks for your help. I expect Darksiders 2 will probably work better but this cost them my pre-order, will wait for a deal in the future.

I'm sure you already know that we do want you here posting. :grouphug:
The only place I see people mention the res and frame rate mentioned is in the comments. Was that confirmed in the article?
Some website DSOGaming (You know that super famous website) got a look at some preview code that showed it would be locked at that resolution, but there has not been any official saying besides it will be exactly like the PS3 version.

Yeah, prices like that have pretty much made me stick to PC gaming for most major releases, unless they're a console exclusive (e.g. Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, God of War etc. on the PS3).

I've been debating getting a Xbox 360 but the longer I consider it, the less appeal it has since I can get most games on the PC and there aren't a ton of exclusives that sweeten the pot for me.

I think I'll just spend that money on a better video card/other upgrades, haha.

Tell me something I don't know.

I have no idea if this is just the weekend deal or what since Steam isn't updating it, but here is the Kalypso pack we know about with all the prices

DLC for the games is on sale as well (but no included in the pack)

Kalypso Collection $49.99 50% off includes below
Airline Tycoon 2 $4.99 75% off
Bang Bang Racing $4.99 50% off
Disciples 3 $9.99 50% off
Disciples 3 Resurrection $9.99 50% off
Dungeons $2.99 80% off
Dungeons The Dark Lord $3.99 80% off
Jagged Alliance Back in Action $13.59 66% off
Port Royal 3 $19.99 50% off
Skydrift $4.99 50% off
Tropic 3 $4.99 50% off
Tropic 4 $7.49 75% off

Had to pick up the Dungeons pack myself - at $6 for both games + the DLC, it's a pretty good deal as I've had my eye on these for a while now.

I picked up Dungeons Gold (includes Dark Lord expansion and all DLC) for $5.99. I almost got it during the Summer sale but patience prevails. Another game off of the wishlist.

I honestly was not looking forward to it at all until I watched the PC trailer for the game. I know that it's a somewhat open world game in Hong Kong with an emphasis on melee (I guess somewhat like Yakuza games?), but I was blown away with the PC features. Even if I don't like the game at first glance, I'm considering supporting the developer for bringing over such a PC feature-rich release... the word "port" does not do it justice. They're bringing out High Res Texture packs on day 1, the expected graphical improvements that utilize DX11, and even gameplay altering features like the option to increase population density I think.

I am excited for Sleeping Dogs, but am going to wait for a sale. I really have to stop buying games at full price when I am not going to get to them right away.

I wish I could be more excited about Kalypso, but most of their games get shit reviews (except for Tropico). Tropico 4 is way too similar to Tropico 3 IMO. Waiting for a better deal on a "complete version".

And yes, very excited about Sleeping Dogs. You can easily get it for under $40 on greenmangaming (Steamworks games). Darksiders 2 and Sleeping Dogs next week. Gonna be awesome!

I am very interested to see what word of mouth has to say about the game when CAG's get a hold of it. I've been following the title since it was a True Crime entry, and the game's been steadily hyped over the years. (With approximately four years of development, I can't help but have high expectations.)

All I can say is that, when it launches, I hope there's a lot of praise; It really does sound ambitious and gameplay-focused, and I would be happy to see the game deliver on those promises.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-08-09-dark-souls-pc-preview-the-devils-bargain
Hmm, I missed the overnight chatter so I didn't see this talk the first time around but read the article and saw this:

On close inspection, it appears that Dark Souls PC uses the very same 1024x720 internal framebuffer as the console versions, regardless of which resolution has been set in the menus.

With GFWL + this I'm definitely going to pass. I haven't played a major release (non-indie/casual) PC game at 1024x720/768 since the 90s.

If it goes $5 then I'll think about grabbing it.

Sleeping Dogs looks interesting but like glennfrank said, I need to stop paying full price when I don't get to the games right away. To the wishlist it goes!

I just hope I have SOME time to play Borderlands 2 when it comes out because I preordered that game. Probably not the best idea when I have an internship to devote my soul (and all my free time) to starting in September, haha. Oh well, c'est la vie.

I've debated a 360 a number of times, there's just so much PC overlap this generation, that I haven't found a compelling reason to. Not like my still treasured PS2 slim.

Hmm, thanks for bringing that to my attention. That looks interesting and fun. Though it's only 80% off... I'll probably give in by tomorrow.

Edit: Hmm the review on Strategy Informer makes it sound interesting enough. I tend to find their reviews relevant and consistent.

Edit 2: Though they don't have anything nice to say about Dungeons - The Dark Lord

I hear you there. I spent about $400 on the Steam Sale getting a bunch of games I've had in my wishlist. I really should play all of those first... I just get so excited when new stuff comes out and everyone is talking about it. :p
Same... None of the Kalypso games are really my cup of tea.

I'm currently debating on Payday since the deal is over soon, but I will probably pass...again. One of these days it will get me :p

I decided to wait (again) on Payday as well. I would prefer to pay it with a gamepad (I know some people shout blasphemy when things like this are said). Unfortunately that is something their devs say they will code on PC.
I bought it last night, excited. Want Darksiders 2 also but I'm going to hold off on that one.

You don't need to pay "full price" cause it's around 35% off on Greenman with the ORDER-NTCOM-PLETE code. Code expires early tomorrow morning. You can get Darksiders with the same code for 25% off.

If some modders can fix the 30 fps and the res I might buy before it's $5.

I just can't justify paying full price for a shoddy console port with a few extras.

I got it at GMG with a 25% off coupon plus 7 bucks worth of credit. I shouldn't have, but I couldn't resist. :) The mix of styles looks interesting. I'm still looking for an open world game that is as fun as Just Cause 2 was for me (SRTT is good, but I have a lot of problems running it without crashing). For some reason I think it'll be this one.

Out of curiousity, how does the DLC work with multiplayer? That game has so darned much DLC would there problems like if one person has Star Trek outfits they can't play with somebody else who doesn't, etc?

Pretty sure you can play with other players who play as DLC heroes, but can't play the DLC maps if you don't own the maps.

I've actually wondered this myself, since I have pals with varying amounts of DLC. I can't even guess, since I have little experience with the game itself.

On second thought, I bet no one on CAG owns Magicka.

EDIT: Draekon has the answer:

If someone host a game with a DLC map you can play on it even if you don't. Also the outfits and such don't interfere.

I know, I just knowwwww I am gonna catch hell for this, but why is there so much hate towards the GFWL service? I personally have not had that much of an issue with it myself. Is it just because it is an added DRM, because it's Microsoft, or because it is the cool thing to do?
Apparently Nexuiz is having a free weekend. It just showed up in my library. It's 75% off at $2.50.

Well, the original Nexuiz had a strong community/modding community since it was a community made game. I don't know if that is going to translate to this version due to the controversy around it, but theoretically it should have a strong modding community.

We'll have to wait and see, I think it is hard to understand the appeal of this game for people who haven't played it. Which is a shame as I think older gamers who value games with exploration and challenge and not having huge pop up signs saying, "Go this way!!!" and want a game with the same depth of leveling and character building of older RPG's on top of it all. Are going to miss out because of how they will simply view this as a bad port.

I have hope that a lot of these issues are just rumors or that a modder comes out and is able to fix a majority of these fixes, I mean people complained about how bad of a port Skyrim's UI was and they dropped 60$ on that because mods can fix it.

Then again I am biased and a bit A-Typical considering I am planning on playing Thief 1 and also play Avernum(A game with simple 2d art with little to no animations) and yet also enjoy bigger graphical games like Saints Row 3rd as well.

To me Gameplay is always and will always be greater than graphics..Hell I still even play text based adventures like The Warbler's Nest (http://jmac.org/warbler/play.html)

Edit: Only thing I really can easily hate on is GFWL I mean this is a game that you put 100 hours into, to slowly advance and learn and build up your character, and for it be on a system that is known to at times destroy saves is just awful.

I myself never had any problems with it, and I changed HDs last year, made backups and reinstalled everything with no loss of game save information. However, I do think it's very annoying to log into it after I'm already on Steam, it takes a few precious seconds off my gaming every time I try to play a GFWL game.

Don't worry, it's not a sensitive topic, like SNES vs. Genesis, but it is something that aggravates PC users. First, it's DRM, which never sits well with PC users. Second, the patch downloading and installation through the GFWL client is extremely slow and inefficient. Third, the matchmaking and other multiplayer features are poor. Those are the reasons that come to mind, and I'm sure other CAG's will be able to elaborate.

EDIT: Mr. Facls reminds me of another point - The gamesaves are encrypted, mostly to avoid exploits that could trigger Achievements. (Achievements, sadly, are SERIOUS BUSINESS.) Therefore, if it's not your save, you cannot use it. I ran into this issue with Bulletstorm, when a terrible game-breaking bug prevented certain areas from loading. Since I couldn't "leap over" that point with a downloaded save file, I had to work on a fix, which, thankfully, I was able to uncover.

Oh Sophita, I just knew you were going to come to the rescue of Dark Souls. :D

Gameplay is more important than graphics to me to a point. I'll pay $3 or $5 for a casual game running on 1990s resolutions, sure. But this is 2012 and I'm not paying $40 for some lazy port done by clueless Japanese that really should have outsourced it because they didn't know what the hell they were doing.
EDIT: Draekon has the answer:

For some reason I read Magicka as Dungeon Defenders. Regardless, it's the same. You should be able to play with people who own DLC equipment and such, you just won't be able to play the DLC maps if you don't own them.

I've heard the opposite for Magicka DLC maps, that only the host needs the maps, and everyone else that joins can play on them.

:D Well you don't need to spend 40$ on it and honestly if it is bad as they I will just stick to my PS3 copy as well. Just hoping they are rumors and also if they aren't hoping modders pick it up and or can pick it up and improve on the game even if it means a loss of the online(I mean look at STALKER that game was amazing just because of unoffical patches and mods same with Vampire:Bloodlines, and also Oblivion) which i've never been concerned with anyways in the game; other than the cool way in how you can leave hints for other players. Just with so much gloom figure i'd try and bring up the positives of the game.

Besides like you said, at the very least the game is worth it at the 5-10$ range. I mean that's like 18 wheels of steel price range

This is correct. Only the host needs the map in order for a party to play on it.

I don't know if modders can fix the internal resolution thing. Maybe, but that's a lot tougher than something like just swapping out textures. We'll see I guess.

I don't understand why they didn't just let the Eastern Europeans do the port like they did with Ninja Blade, which reminds me I got that from Indie Gala a while back and need to install it and give it a go.

I just have a feeling that the lazy port is so it won't sell well and therefore can point to it to show that PC games don't sell.
