CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Indie Bundles thread on Steam forums (link)
Pretty much my thoughts.

Besides, I've spent almost $300 on steam over the past month. I should be playing the games that I just bought. Not forking over another $10.
I've spent about $100, and have been basically playing only Fallout 3, which I assume is still a good 20 hours to go yet (stopped before the final mission, and I'm still roaming the wasteland). And I still have New Vegas, RF: A, Max Payne 3, Metro 2033, Sleeping Dogs, etc. Not to mention that I have yet to touch Civilization V!

Of course, I'll probably spend 10 bucks or so next week when Iron Brigade comes out.

Thanks again hollowfreak and Outinthedark.
Hopefully it will show up in another bundle/go on sale sometime. I'm interested, but not $10 interested.
Angel statues freak me the hell out now thanks to that episode.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what Moffat had in mind.
So, uh, about that Star Trek Online on Steam... :p

(and actually, it takes place in yet another universe *hides*)
Are you sure about that? I read that it was supposed to be in the same fiction as the new movie and that makes sense in the context of the Leonard Nimoy voiceover at the beginning.
Yeah, I was really disappointed with how the Weeping Angels have progressed on the show. The Crash of the Byzantium took all the horror and scare out of them, really. was very disappointed with those episodes (except for one, very very awesome scene. Which had nothing to do with the angels, and everything to do with Doctor Who being one of the best written shows around. Well, at times - it can be just as bad as everything else.)

Also recommend is The Girl in the Fire Place and his 2-parter set in WWII. Or really, anything he wrote for Doctor Who.
Full OT-ness ahead, dammit!

I think you hit the nail on the head on the Angels; with the new shows (post-series four) not only do they turn up under every loose rock like roaches but also they're just villain-of-the-week material. In "Blink," if an Angel touched you, you were sent back in time not killed. I just can't help but feel that the subsequent episodes sucked a lot of the mystery out of them.

Oh, I can't say enough about "Human Nature." I've never read Paul Cornell's book (I believe you can get it online for free), but the Series Three version is fantastic. I can watch "The Family of Blood" a dozen times and I'll have a tear in my eye at the end every time.

Thought Binary Domain was a decent generic shooter but most decent TPSs can manage fun.

Thought Spec Ops was more fun though.

Upset that I missed Intrusion 2 in a bundle.

FEAR3 is great. It's really different from the previous FEARs though. Still on the same premise though: Shooting lots of bad guys with slow mo and some light horror bits in between.

So the Build A Lot 2: Town of the Year Collection is free right now on Gamefly. It is normally $10 there.

Requires a Gamefly account. Does not activate on Steam.

If you are remotely interested in this game you should grab it now.

BTW if you ever had a Direct2Drive account it should have auto converted to a Gamefly account.

When you said also on Steam I assumed that we could redeem the Gamefly one on Steam. It does not appear to be that way... or am I missing something?

Nope, that was poker. She got in deep with the wrong people.

That was Build-A-Lot 3. ;)

http://megowan.wordpress.com/2012/02/25/how-coconut-queen-2-will-be-made/
The majority of the admittedly light traffic to this site is from people looking for a sequel to Coconut Queen. Search Engines send them here, to an explanation for why Coconut Queen 2 was never made. Basically, the publisher never recouped their investment. There are a few reasons why:
 • Coconut Queen was an entry in the category of Building games, an established genre with a clear leader: Build-A-Lot.
 • ...
 • The highly anticipated Build-A-Lot 3 came out the week before Coconut Queen. This was iWin’s choice, to release at that time. That made it difficult to ask people for more money for a similar game a week after they spent money on a known, low-risk sequel.
 • iWin also decided to release Coconut Queen at a premium price of $20. Build-A-Lot 3 was a third of that cost, at $7.
 • ...
So you can safely play Build-A-Lot 2 with no Coconut Queen destroying guilt but the same cannot be said of Build-A-Lot 3!
Anyone with experience in the tropico series know if tropico 4 is really much of an improvement over 3?
I think it is. I've played through Tropico 3 twice in addition to a ton of hours in free-play sandbox mode. Tropico 4 *is* quite similar in how the game plays, but it has an all-new campaign, upgraded graphics, bug fixes, and a bunch of new buildings and concepts. The Modern Times expansion for T4 also adds a huge amount to the base game. The other bits of DLC add a mission or two each, plus new buildings and such.

Tropico 4 is definitely the pinnacle of the franchise thus far.

Thanks. CQ 4 Life.

Why did I have to DL like 3 updates to get the gamefly thing to work? You would think they would make DL the latest version of it the first time...lol

Then had to update something called Adobe Air. Used console games I've ordered from them show up on my shelf :)

Speaking of CQ, I was going to ask him if when making a new title, if he would like some sort of artistic help with either promotional art, character sprites or anything of the sort.

How cool would it be to know that I helped make the spiritual successor to Coconut Queen?!?!
Now that I've looked this up on the site. . . what the heck is it?
It is a turn based strategy game.

Ha! Good to know because free is tempting. On to a completely different but extremely exciting topic, I just placed my order for the Xbox Speed Wheel and it should be here Tuesday! Now I want to buy SkyDrift to try it out as I am a sucker for red rock and welcome the opportunity to fling myself into massive sandstone arches.

I was looking at Skydrift but it was apparently cheaper at $3.39 on the summer sale.

While it's not much practical difference in price, it still bugs me that it's been lower. :p

Yes and the difference could be put towards the DLC for a greater variety of airplanes to crash. I can wait for a 75% off sale. My backlog will thank me.

I wince everytime I see a I love/like (no homo) comment on the internet, I mean I know I'm a girl so I'm not as sensitive about these things, but you guys really think that saying an obviously friendly/platonic "I love you" to a stranger on the internet is some how equal to making a pass at them?
Come on. Really? Does the male ego bruise that easily?

Btw, atreyuer, this is not directed particularly at you. Just a bite-sized rant to all the men out there that feel that they need to do this.

I'll have to agree with Lefty as well; I just never and still do not "get" the term. Doesn't help I once knew guys where like every other word was "No Homo!" if anything I thought they were both "in the closet" because it seemed like they were both so obsessed with not being homo.

Not saying every guy who says it is or anything; just it is a really weird thing to say during a conversation,"So I was out with Mike and we were getting McDonalds together, No Homo, and I got a large #3.."

Plus I've always wondered what is the feminine version of, "No Homo!"(If now the term means something anti-manly..hmm). Oh well, Hey Lefty you sound like you would be amazing to go running with, No Macho! :whee:
I kinda regret not preordering Darksiders 2 with the 25% off coupon from GMG :(
I was going back and forth on it and figures when I was like ehh scew it since I got a lil extra cash and now only 20% off. Meant to be I suppose.
seems like this will be the next game that will be flooding steamgifts next.
Since it's been in a bundle it's not worth much credit at all so that will discourage people from powergaming it up. Anyone who gives it away would pretty much be doing so because they want to and don't want the extra key to go to waste.

Also, I don't think that many people have an active IGN membership anymore because you have to pay for it and there are no free trials like there used to be.

I've put 300+ hours into Fallout 3 on the 360, yet I'm probably just as stoked to play all over again with mods on the PC as I am excited to play Borderlands 2 (and that's pretty excited). I'm sure that article is pretty old news to a lot of people, but damn. Those are some pretty pictures.
Saw this in a Steam group posting that they reposted via Redit.

A warning to anyone trading for Dead Island, Steam has retroactivalely renamed all versions of it GOTY with the GOTY graphic to go along with it.

There are ways to tell the difference though. The real GOTY should say includes 3 items and list the DLC. See below
I feel like a total nerd for knowing this, but no it didn't. It doesn't erase it, it just creates a new parallel universe that branches off from that point. It's no different than the mirror universe or the multiple universes Worf went through in Parallels.

Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman have even said that the original universe is continuing on and that their new one does not destroy it.

Having said all that, I would argue that from a creative standpoint they are re-writing the history since that was what the studio wanted and it seems very unlikely there will be any further filmed Trek in the prime universe at this point.
I was SOO hoping Star Trek would be wrapped up by the time I was going to post again, but fuck... Anyways, if no one get it; just watch Fringe, that whole mess will defintely make what they did in Star Trek seem obviously clear... DAMN YOU ABRAMS!!! STOP IT, YOU INTRIGUE ME IN WITH FANCY SHOWS, MAKE THEM COMPLICATED, MAKES ME HAPPIER, THEN ALWAYS RUIN IT AT THE END!!! I say always because Lost counts for everything; I can just assume where everything he does will go after that...not looking forward to this upcoming last season of Fringe...

It makes me so sad that so many people are now obsessed with the new series (NOT A REBOOT MIND YOU); but those same people have usually NEVER seen any of the past episodes! Wow, this looks incredible! I've already used ENB Series mods for Driver:SF and was pleased with it. I tried to use it with Deus Ex but either I couldn't see any difference or I set it up incorrectly.

I have had 3 different copies of Fallout 3 over the years (original for PS3 at launch, GOTY for PS3 later, and now GOTY on Steam). Somehow, I've never gotten past the vault tutorial. Maybe I have a reason now... but everyone tells me New Vegas is better.

I saw it and spent the next half-hour trying to figure out what I had to download to get it looking that good. Then I realized that I owned it for the xbox360 and had only played through 70% of it.:whistle2:#
I then decided that I should probably not re-buy it for the mods since I didn't finish it the first time.

THEN, I thought, I have never played any of New Vegas, and am assuming (?) the mods will work for that as well.. I hope.. so I added New Vegas to my wishlist and will wait for the next sale. :)

I've never played a DMC game and the new Dante appeals a lot more than the old version. I like the quips and the trying-too-hard attitude. He seems funny and cool and the game looks pretty good.
I've never played a DMC game and the new Dante appeals a lot more than the old version. I like the quips and the trying-too-hard attitude. He seems funny and cool and the game looks pretty good.
I have no problem with the new Dante either. Looking forward to playing the game sometime in the next couple of years :)

Not exactly subtle with your viral marketing.

Hey kids! Are you cool? Well then you'll love Dante's new style in Devil May Cry. He's just a cool dude with a big sword and an even bigger mouth! The baddies won't be able to keep their cool when Dante starts cracking wise! Then he can put 'em away with his pistol, and his aim is as cool as ice. Did we mention he's cool? Devil May Cry: Cool coolity cool, cooling cool.

Dante's always been a goofball. I know there's this sort of perception he's a huge badass but that really only plays into the first game. The others he's a pretty big dork, especially is Devil May Cry 3. I mean the opening scene of that game has him battling while eating a pizza, which is super dorky unless you're a ninja turtle. This new Dante doesn't look much different from the character in DMC3 really. And as much as hardcore fans hated Nero, he was pretty similar too (and I'd say the Devil Bringer made him pretty damned fun to play). Well, when he wasn't screaming his girlfriend's name all the time.
